KP Aspects
Unlike classical Vedic astrology — which uses whole-sign graha drishti (planetary aspects of 3/4/5/7/8/9/10 houses) — Krishnamurti Paddhati adopts the Western system of angular aspects. Aspects are measured as exact degree separations between two bodies (or between a body and a cusp), not as house counts.
In KP practice the Conjunction (0°), Sextile (60°), Square (90°), Trine (120°) and Opposition (180°) are the major aspects that carry real predictive weight. The remaining minor aspects — Vigintile, Quintile, Semi-square and so on — are used only in fine-grained analysis and contribute as a weak Category 5 (conjunct/aspecting) significator.
Aspect Table
The Applying, Exact and Separating columns give the orb range within which each aspect is considered active — strongest when exact.
| Sl. No. | Name of the aspect | Degrees | Effect | Nature | Orb | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Applying | Exact | Separating | |||||
| 1 | Conjunction | Same | Unifying, binding | Variable | 6° | Same | 6° |
| 2 | Vigintile | 18° | Slightly favourable | Mildly favourable | 16° | 18° | 20° |
| 3 | Semi-sextile | 30° | Slightly favourable | Mildly favourable | 28° | 30° | 32° |
| 4 | Semi-square | 45° | Friction, irritation | Mildly adverse | 43° | 45° | 47° |
| 5 | Sextile | 60° | Favourable, opportunity | Favourable | 56° | 60° | 64° |
| 6 | Quintile | 72° | Creative, favourable | Favourable | 70° | 72° | 74° |
| 7 | Square | 90° | Tension, obstacle | Adverse | 84° | 90° | 96° |
| 8 | Trine | 120° | Strongly favourable | Favourable | 114° | 120° | 126° |
| 9 | Sesquiquadrate | 135° | Agitation, friction | Adverse | 133° | 135° | 137° |

Orbs in KP
An orb is the permitted deviation from the exact angle within which an aspect is still considered active. KP keeps orbs tight to preserve precision:
Major aspects
- Conjunction / Opposition — up to about 8°.
- Square / Trine — up to about 6°.
- Sextile — up to about 4°.
Minor aspects
- Vigintile, Quintile, Semi-square, etc. — a narrow orb of 1°–2° only.
- An aspect is strongest when exact (applying) and fades as it separates.
How Aspects Fit the Sub Lord Method
Aspects never override the sub lord verdict. The sub lord at a cusp or planetary position remains the final judge of whether a result is promised. Aspects act as a supporting Category 5 significator: a planet that aspects another planet (or a cusp) inherits a weak connection to whatever that planet or cusp signifies.
Use aspects to confirm or refine a judgment already established through stellar significators and ruling planets — not as a standalone predictive tool.
