Maya / Mayasura (मय)

Architect of the asuras. Master of illusion. Author of cosmic special-effects.

Maya — also called Mayasura — is the danava counterpart to Vishwakarma. Where Vishwakarma builds straight and dharmic, Maya builds tricky. His specialty is illusion: floors that look like water, water that looks like floors, weapons that vanish, cities that fly.

He is father of Mandodari (Ravana's queen) and the rakshasi Diti's grandson by lineage. In some traditions he is the original author of the Surya Siddhanta, the foundational treatise of Vedic mathematical astronomy — a reminder that "asura" knowledge is not absent of wisdom, only of restraint.

What he built

Tripura

Three flying cities (gold, silver, iron) for the asura brothers Tarakaksha, Vidyunmali, and Kamalaksha. Indestructible except when aligned in a single moment — burnt by Shiva's Tripurantaka arrow.

Mayasabha

The Pandavas' assembly hall at Indraprastha, built in gratitude after Krishna and Arjuna saved him from the Khandava forest fire. Floors that mirrored water; pools that looked like marble. Duryodhana's humiliation here lit the fuse of the Mahabharata war.

Vimanas

Earliest flying machines of the asuras. Predecessors of the Pushpaka. Maya's family sustained airborne warfare across the puranas.

Surya Siddhanta

In one tradition Maya receives this astronomical treatise directly from a partial incarnation of the Sun — making him a transmitter of high astronomy as well as a builder.

Amsa flavour — what he does to a planet

In Maya amsa, the planet still builds — but with illusion, leverage, or a hidden twist. Brilliant craft with shadow. Tools that work two ways.

PlanetIn Maya amsa, the native tends to…
SunBuild power illusions — politics, theatre, propaganda, image-management.
MoonMass psychology, virality, branding, dream-shaping, fashion.
MarsSpecial weapons, deception in combat, cyber-offence, traps, stealth tech, VFX pyrotechnics.
MercuryMagic tricks, simulation software, game design, AR/VR, social engineering, sleight-of-hand code.
JupiterEsoteric scholarship, occult math, philosophy that bends frames, persuasive teaching.
VenusGlamour, cosmetics, film FX, set design, illusion-as-art, "stage magic."
SaturnIndustrial illusion — large-scale simulation, mass deception, surveillance state.
RahuStrongest fit. Foreign tech, hacking, deepfakes, smoke-and-mirrors, addictive media.
KetuDisappearing acts, occult tools, vanishing into research, spy-craft.
