💍 How to Predict Marriage Date
Reality check: Single indicators lie. Marriage timing comes from convergence — three or more independent classical signals all firing in the same dasa window. This guide shows you which five layers to consult and how to stack them.
🧭 The Five-Layer Stack
flowchart TD
A([Question: when will marriage happen?]) --> B[Layer 1 · D1 — promise]
B --> C[Layer 2 · D9 — quality & fulfilment]
C --> D[Layer 3 · Upapada Lagna — formal event]
D --> E[Layer 4 · Karakas & Sahamas — sensitive timers]
E --> F[Layer 5 · Dasa — the actual window]
F --> G{Three or more layers agree?}
G -- yes --> H([Confident timing prediction])
G -- no --> I([Mark as moderate / weak])
Step 1 · 🏠 Read the D1 Marriage Promise
The D1 tells you whether marriage happens, and the strength of the promise.
1a. The 7th house
| Look at | Question |
|---|---|
| Sign in the 7th | What flavour of partner? |
| Planets in the 7th | Who is sitting in the marriage seat? |
| 7th lord — where? | Where does marriage energy go? |
| Aspects on the 7th | Who is watching this house? |
| Karaka (Venus for male, Jupiter for female) | Natural significator strength |
1b. Promise strength checklist
✅ Strong promise when any two of the following are true:
- 7L in a kendra (1/4/7/10) or trine (5/9), well-dignified
- Venus or Jupiter (per gender) in kendra/trine, own/exalted sign
- 7th house has a benefic
- 7L conjunct/aspecting the natural karaka
🚨 Red flags for delay or denial:
- 7L combust or debilitated with no Neecha Bhanga
- 7th house hammered by malefics with no benefic relief
- Venus/Jupiter in 6/8/12 and afflicted
- Saturn closely afflicting both 7H and 7L
1c. The Darakaraka (DK)
The planet with the lowest degree-in-sign is the Darakaraka — your spouse significator.
1. Take all 7 planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn).
2. Note each planet's degree within its current sign (0°–30°).
3. Rank by degree, descending.
4. The 7th (lowest) = Darakaraka — the spouse.
⚠️ Rahu/Ketu are not used when computing Chara Karakas in the standard PVR-Jaimini scheme.
Step 2 · 🪞 Confirm in D9 (Navamsa)
The D9 is the marriage chart. Promise without D9 confirmation is half a sentence.
| What to check in D9 | Why |
|---|---|
| D9 7th house | Spouse character & marriage quality |
| D9 7L placement | Where marriage energy lands |
| Venus in D9 (♂ chart) / Jupiter in D9 (♀ chart) | Natural karaka condition |
| DK's sign in D9 | The spouse's core nature |
| Vargottama planets | Reliable, certain |
Spouse character snapshot from D9-7H
| Planet in D9-7H | Spouse archetype |
|---|---|
| ♃ Jupiter | Wise, learned, generous |
| ♀ Venus | Beautiful, artistic, comfort-loving |
| ☽ Moon | Emotional, nurturing, fluctuating |
| ☉ Sun | Authoritative, proud, leader |
| ♂ Mars | Driven, athletic, passionate |
| ♄ Saturn | Disciplined, older, karmic |
| ☿ Mercury | Intelligent, youthful, business-minded |
| ☊ Rahu | Foreign, unconventional, fated |
| ☋ Ketu | Spiritual, detached, past-life bond |
Step 3 · 🎭 The Upapada Lagna (UL)
The Upapada Lagna = the Arudha of the 12th house. It is the single most important point for the formal marriage event — i.e. the wedding itself.
UL is "what the world sees of your marriage" — the public, visible side
The 12th from UL = its negation = factors that can break the marriage
UL checklist
- ✅ UL in a benefic sign, with benefic occupants → marriage is auspicious
- ✅ UL lord well-placed, dignified → wedding goes smoothly
- ⚠️ Strong malefic in UL or in 2nd-from-UL → tension around marriage event
💡 Sanjay Rath's rule: The UL lord is one of the strongest single timers for the actual marriage date. Add it to your timer set.
Step 4 · 🎯 Sensitive Points — Vivaha Sahama & Karakas
4a. The Vivaha Sahama
The Vivaha Sahama is a computed sensitive degree — a Vedic Pars Fortunae for marriage. When the Sahama's sign-lord is activated by a dasa, the wedding can land in that window.
Look for:
- Vivaha Sahama tightly conjunct Venus / Jupiter / 7L
- Sahama lord transiting / dasha-active during the suspected window
- Sahama falling in the 7th, 1st or UL
4b. The full set of marriage timers
| Timer | Why it counts |
|---|---|
| 7L (lord of D1's 7th) | Direct lord of marriage house |
| 8L (lord of D1's 8th) | "Mangalya sthana" — marital bond longevity |
| Venus (♂) / Jupiter (♀) | Natural karaka |
| Darakaraka (DK) | Spouse significator |
| Atmakaraka (AK) | Soul-level activator |
| D9 lagna lord | Inner marital direction |
| Depositor of D9-7L | Often the "hidden hand" |
| UL lord | The formal event |
| Vivaha Sahama lord | Sensitive-point activator |
| Nakshatra lord of 7L & Venus | Sub-level triggers |
🧠 Why so many? Because marriage is a life pillar. Classical texts overcount intentionally — the more independent rules a window passes, the more confident the timing.
Step 5 · ⏳ Stack the Dasa
Now you have a list of timers. Build the Mahadasa → Antardasa → Pratyantardasa → Sookshma window:
flowchart LR
MD[Mahadasa: 6-19 yrs] --> AD[Antardasa: months-years]
AD --> PD[Pratyantardasa: weeks-months]
PD --> SD[Sookshma: days]
Scoring formula (used by the AstroSK engine)
score = 0.4·MD + 0.3·AD + 0.2·PD + 0.1·SD
× (1 − 0.5 · zeroPenalty)
where zeroPenalty = (# levels with relevance ≤ 0.05) / 4
A textbook marriage window often shows all four levels lit up by different timers — that's the hallmark of convergence.
🧪 Worked Example — Convergence in Action
Native: born 1989-05-15, married 2015-05-06.
Active dasa on wedding day in D1 Vimshottari:
| Level | Planet | Why it's a marriage timer |
|---|---|---|
| MD | Rahu | In D1-H2 (family); dispositor = Saturn (marriage axis) |
| AD | Saturn | AK + D9 lagna lord + depositor of D9-7L (three signals) |
| PD | Moon | D1's 7L — direct lord of the marriage house |
| SD | Venus | Natural karaka, own-sign in D1-H5 |
D9 Vimshottari on the same date:
| Level | Planet | Classical fit |
|---|---|---|
| MD | Saturn | D9 lagna lord + AK |
| AD | Venus | Natural marriage karaka |
| PD | Jupiter | Aspects D9-7H |
| SD | Saturn | AK closes the loop |
Every D9 level is a textbook marriage timer — dual confirmation. Score ≈ 0.96/1.0.
📌 Takeaway: No single rule predicts marriage. Convergence does.
🚫 Common Pitfalls
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Only reading the 7th house | Add D9, UL, Sahama, karakas, DK, AK |
| Ignoring D9 | A weak D9 hollows out any D1 promise |
| Treating Venus as universal karaka for everyone | Venus = ♂ karaka, Jupiter = ♀ karaka |
| Forgetting AK | AK activates the entire chart in its dasa, including marriage |
| Picking only Mahadasa | Down-drill to Sookshma — 4-day precision is possible |
| Skipping transits | Jupiter transiting the 7th from natal Moon is a classical refinement |
