Pravrajya Yogas (Renunciation Combinations)

Pravrajya Yoga is a classical combination connected with renunciation, ascetic discipline, or a life that turns away from ordinary household priorities. In BPHS Chapter 79, the core trigger is a clustering of four or more planets in one rasi. The strongest planet in that cluster indicates the style or order of ascetic expression.

In practical chart reading, this yoga does not force a person to become a monk in a literal sense. It can also show strong detachment, intense spiritual discipline, or a vocation that demands austerity.

Strength and Cancellation Notes

  • Judge the strongest planet by dignity, shadbala context, house support, and benefic/malefic conditioning.
  • Saturn joining or strongly aspecting the cluster can increase austerity and withdrawal from comfort.
  • A stable Moon and benefic support can make the path constructive rather than isolating.
  • If the cluster is weak, heavily afflicted, or strongly tied to material houses, literal renunciation may cancel.
  • Even with cancellation, the native may still display periodic detachment, pilgrimages, or disciplined service.

Worked Examples

Example A: Mature spiritual redirection

  • Five planets in one rasi, with Jupiter strongest and unafflicted.
  • Saturn aspects the cluster from a trinal house, adding austerity.
  • Result: formal renunciate life after family duties are completed.

Example B: Householder with Pravrajya impulse

  • Four-planet cluster present, but strongest planet is weakened and tied to 2nd/10th pressures.
  • Moon receives benefic support and remains socially engaged.
  • Result: no monastic initiation, but a life of disciplined sadhana and charitable service.

Pravrajya Yoga is best read as a spectrum of detachment. Confirm with dasha timing, navamsha dignity, and the overall dharma indicators before concluding literal renunciation.
