The Problem

At 11:37 PM birth time, the D24 lagna was on the border between Cancer and Leo. A small birth time adjustment (within the ±5-10 minute range of typical birth record accuracy) would shift the D24 lagna from Cancer to Leo. The question: which is correct?

Birth Time Sensitivity Calculation

Using the formula: error in dasha dates = m × n × K / 4 days

• K = 24 (Siddhamsha divisional index)
• n = first Mahadasha lord's years (to be read from D24 Vimshottari start)
• m = estimated birth time error in minutes (assumed ±5 minutes)

Cancer Lagna vs Leo Lagna in D24 — Which Fits?

Leo lagna in D24 was confirmed as correct by these indicators:

1. Sun-Mars yoga in D24 — With Leo lagna in D24, Sun (the lagna lord) and Mars are in a yoga together in D24. Sun rules Leo lagna; when the lagna lord is in yoga with Mars (energy, sharp intellect, mathematics), it creates a powerful drive for technical and mathematical study. This fits Tarun's actual field (math + applied physics).

2. Jupiter as yogakaraka in 10th house of D24 — For Leo lagna, Jupiter rules the 5th (intelligence, learning) and 8th house. With Leo as D24 lagna, Jupiter becomes the yogakaraka for the education chart (5th lord = trikona, giving benefic status despite also ruling 8th). Jupiter placed in the 10th house of D24 = Jupiter aspect on the 4th house of D24 (direct aspect) = Jupiter governing the foundation of education. This indicates excellent higher education achievements.

3. Jeopardy win at age 10 — Tarun won a children's Jeopardy game show at approximately age 10. PVR checked whether the D24 Vimshottari dasha at age 10 corresponded to a benefic period under Leo lagna (using D24 Moon for Vimshottari). Under Leo lagna D24, the dasha active at age 10 was a benefic period consistent with a notable intellectual achievement.

4. Cancer lagna D24 would not fit: Under Cancer lagna for D24, the dasha at age 10 would have been a different period — one that does NOT correspond to the Jeopardy achievement.

Conclusion

Leo lagna for D24 is correct. This requires a slight backward adjustment of birth time (within the ~5-minute buffer), which is consistent with PVR's note that "birth times are usually noted slightly AFTER the actual birth, so backward adjustment is usually safer."
