🕉️ Class 41 — Narayana Dasha Resumed: Dvisaptati Sama, D2 (Kasinath Hora) & Example Charts

After a sidetrack into mundane/New Year charts, the class returns to Narayana Dasha, works through a live marriage-date puzzle using Dvisaptati Sama Dasha and the annual Pravesha chart, then introduces the correct Kasinath Hora (D2) chart and its Narayana Dasha analysis with the industrialist Ramakrishna Dalmia's example.

🪔 Opening — Prayer & Context {#opening}

The class opens with the Ganapati invocation and a short prayer (Ardola Vikridam metre) composed by the teacher for Lord Dakshinamurthy at the Ashwitya Gurukulam temple, Sellersburg. The prayer asks Shiva-Dakshinamurthy to dwell in the intellect of astrologers worldwide, granting them wisdom to foresee the future correctly.

[!NOTE] The preceding classes covered Telugu New Year (Solar/Lunar New Year mundane charts) and a seminar on financial astrology (Hora chart, D2; Karthika Shukla Pratipada New Year chart for stock-market predictions using compressed dashas). All those topics will be revisited in due course.

🪐 Dasha Semantics: Narayana vs Vimshottari vs Sudasha {#dasha-semantics}

A student's astute observation opens a fundamental discussion on what each dasha actually measures:

Dasha Tracks Shows
Narayana Dasha Movement of Narayana through the chart Focus of effort — what the person is actually doing
Vimshottari Dasha Nakshatra-based; experience of the mind Mind's perception — how the mind experiences what is happening
Sudasha (Sudarshana) Movement of Lakshmi/Sri through the chart Focus of blessings — where grace is flowing

[!IMPORTANT] These boundaries are fuzzy, not absolute. In practice there is overlap. Using Vimshottari to infer events (not just mental states) is a common shortcut — not ideal but not wrong. The teacher acknowledges making such compromises himself. Students are encouraged to maintain a critical attitude.

🏠 Bhava vs Arudha Pada — The Intangible/Tangible Distinction {#bhava-vs-arudha}

A core conceptual re-statement prompted by the same discussion:

Sanskrit Term Meaning Astrological Correlate Nature
Bhava Meaning / concept (intangible) House from Lagna Internal — true comfort, real ability, real dharma; only the native knows it
Padam Word / symbol (tangible) Arudha Pada of the house External — the car, the fridge, the visible marriage ceremony; the world can perceive it

Analogy used in class: When you say the word "computer," the word is the padam (tangible symbol); the exact meaning in your mind is the bhava (intangible). Listener and speaker may share slightly different inner meanings, but both can process the word.

[!TIP] Always look at tangible events from Arudha Padas, and real inner qualities/states from actual houses (counted from Lagna). Confusing the two is the most common source of imprecise predictions.

🎯 Marriage Puzzle — Jayaram's Chart {#marriage-puzzle}

Birth data: January 20, 1968 · 2:55 AM · Bangalore, India

The puzzle: One of four given dates is the actual marriage date:

  • A: January 26, 1997
  • B: August 22, 1999
  • C: May 9, 1997
  • D: August 17, 1998

📐 Selecting the Conditional Dasha {#conditional-dasha}

The teacher walks through the hierarchy of conditional (naimittika) Nakshatra dashas (Parasara's list):

Condition Dasha Applied
Lagna in Vargottama Saptamsapara Dasha
Sun in Lagna Shashtiansha Dasha
10th lord in 10th house Chaturdasati Sama Dasha
Lagna lord in 7th OR 7th lord in Lagna Dvisaptati Sama Dasha

In Jayaram's chart Venus (7th lord) is in Lagna — so Dvisaptati Sama Dasha (72-year dasha) applies instead of Vimshottari.

🔮 Dvisaptati Sama Dasha Analysis {#dvisaptati}

  • Mahadasha running 1997–1999: Rahu
  • Antardasha candidates in the puzzle window: Moon · Mars · Mercury
  • Can Rahu give marriage? — Yes: In Navamsa, Rahu is with Venus (karaka + Lagna lord), aspecting Upapada Lagna (UL) and Darpada (A7). Planets conjunct exchange results if not inimical; Venus & Rahu are friends → Rahu gives Venus results in his Mahadasha.

Antardasha analysis in Navamsa:

Antardasa Sign Capability for Marriage? Reason
Cancer (Jan 26, 1997) ✅ High Jupiter (UL dispositor) here; Moon–Jupiter Parivartana (Gajakesari Yoga); Moon is in UL & A7
Gemini (May 9, 1997) ✅ Moderate Mercury (Ketu's dispositor); 9th lord in 9th house aspecting UL; Virgo Mahadasha lord Mercury
Capricorn (Aug 17, 1998) ❌ Ruled out A8 (Mrityu Pada) is there — shows divorce/separation, opposite of marriage; no link to UL, Ketu, or Venus
Virgo (Aug 22, 1999) ✅ Possible Virgo = Mahadasha sign itself (see below)

[!WARNING] Mars Antardasha (containing Aug 17, 1998) is further ruled out: Mars & Sun are conjunct in Navamsa → they exchange results → Mars gives Sun's results (11th lord in 5th — no marriage linkage); hence August 17, 1998 (Option D) is eliminated.

Exchange chain clarification:

  • Mars conjunct Sun → Sun gives Mars's results; Mars gives Sun's results.
  • Mars–Saturn Parivartana → Saturn gives Sun's results; Mars gives Saturn's results; Sun gives Mars's results.
  • Net: Mars Antardasha = Saturn results; Saturn Antardasha = Sun results (not marriage-giving).

Most likely Antardasha: Moon (in UL + A7; Moon–Jupiter Gajakesari exchange involving 3rd/10th houses of initiative and societal karma in Navamsa).

  • Mahadasha: Virgo — covers the entire 1997–1999 puzzle window.
  • Virgo can give marriage because:
    • Aspecting UL and A7 (in Sagittarius)
    • Ketu occupies Virgo (planet of lineage/family continuation)
    • Venus aspects Virgo (karaka for marriage)
    • Virgo = 12th house; UL is Arudha of 12th → 12th house is inherently linked to marriage/lineage

📊 Three-Parts Rule in Narayana Dasha {#three-parts}

The Narayana Dasha period is divided into three equal parts based on rising type:

Part Governed By Rule
1st one-third The Dasha sign itself Head-rising (Shirshodaya) signs give sign-results first; back-rising (Prishtha) signs give last
2nd one-third Lord of the Dasha sign Lord's Shirshodaya/Prishtha status determines its preference
3rd one-third Planets in or aspecting the Dasha sign Ordered by descending degree of longitude

Virgo Narayana Dasha — Three-Parts breakdown:

  • Virgo = Shirshodaya (head-rising) → prefers 1st one-third for its own results
  • Mercury (Virgo's lord) in Gemini = also Shirshodaya → prefers 2nd one-third
  • 3rd one-third (last ~1 year: Jan 20 1999 – Jan 20 2000): results of Venus, Moon, Mercury, Rahu, Ketu (occupying/aspecting Virgo)

Order within 3rd one-third (by descending longitude):

Rank Planet Approx. Degree Approximate Period
1 Venus ~28°15' Jan 20 – Apr 2, 1999
2 Moon ~27° Apr 2 – Jun 15, 1999
3 Mercury ~15° Jun 15 – Aug 28, 1999
4 Rahu ~0.5° (after subtract from 30) Aug 28 – Nov 10, 1999
5 Ketu ~0.5° Nov 10 – Jan 20, 2000

August 22, 1999 falls in Mercury's sub-period within the 3rd one-third → Mercury (9th lord in 9th house, aspecting UL) can give marriage.

[!NOTE] Narayana Dasha three-parts analysis pointed toward Aug 22, 1999 as possible. But the Pravesha (annual return) chart gave decisive clarity, overriding this initial Narayana Dasha analysis.

🪔 Annual Pravesha Chart — Decisive Confirmation {#pravesha}

[!IMPORTANT] Pravesh chart (annual lunar return) is the most reliable technique for timing specific events within a year. When multiple dasha techniques yield ambiguous results, the Pravesha chart resolves them.

Analysis of the 1997 Pravesha chart (Lunar birthday: ~Feb 9, 1996 → covering up to ~Jan 28, 1997):

  • Hora lord (ruler of the year): Venus
  • Venus (5th lord) is in the 7th house with Lagna lord → conjunction in 7th → marriage strongly indicated
  • Raja Yoga between Venus & Mercury (~9° apart) in 7th house, both aspecting Lagna
  • Navamsa of annual chart: Lagna strong (Lagna lord Mars in Lagna); 7th lord Venus in 9th house conjunct UL

Dasha running on May 9, 1997 (Option C): Venus Mahadasha · Mercury Antardasha

  • Venus–Mercury form Raja Yoga in the 7th house of the annual Rasi chart
  • From Venus, Mercury is in 11th house → bhoga is in 5th (Purva Punya — auspicious event from past merit)
  • The window Venus MD / Mercury AD = only ~11 days; one of the four puzzle dates falls exactly in it

[!TIP] Conclusion: Option C — May 9, 1997 — is the most likely marriage date.

📊 Kasinath Hora Chart (D2) — Correct Interpretation {#d2-kasinath}

Two versions of D2 — The Controversy

Version Source Structure Problem
Common D2 Popular misreading of Parasara All planets fall in Cancer or Leo only Useless for analysis — only 2 signs
Kasinath Hora Correct reading (per Sanjay Rath's tradition from his guru Kasinath Rath) Two halves of zodiac — Sun's half (daytime signs) and Moon's half (nighttime signs) Planets distributed across all 12 signs; interpretable

The misinterpretation: Parasara said Sun Hora and Moon Hora. Scholars assumed Sun Hora = Leo, Moon Hora = Cancer (the signs Sun and Moon own). The correct reading: Sun and Moon own two halves of the zodiac (six daytime-rising + six nighttime-rising signs), not just two individual signs.

[!NOTE] The name "Kasinath Hora" was given by Sanjay Rath to distinguish this from the popular (wrong) version, naming it after his guru Kasinath Rath.

D2 — What It Really Shows

[!IMPORTANT] D2 is NOT the "money chart." The Sanskrit term Parasara used is Sampada = ability to accomplish things / resources at one's command. Money is one resource; political influence, connections, speech, knowledge — all are resources.

Analogy used in class: When N.T. Rama Rao became Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (1983), his Gemini Narayana Dasha in D2 started — Gemini contained Gati Lagna (showing power/access to influence). Political power = resource = D2 domain.

📊 D2 Houses — Meanings at Financial Level {#d2-houses}

From Lagna (True Self's Resources)

House Meaning in D2
1st Self in financial/resource terms
2nd Resources at command
3rd Initiative, enterprise, boldness
4th Direction & happiness in financial matters
5th Earning ability
6th Wealth from service; financial obstacles
7th Financial desires; interactions with others
8th Ups & downs; risks; investments; gambling tendency; unexpected wealth/loss

From Arudha Lagna (World's Perception of Resources)

Same house numbers but show the perceived version:

  • 2nd from AL = how resourceful you appear to the world
  • 5th from AL = reputation for capability / tribe (excellent placement for power)
  • 10th from AL = image of your financial activity (malefic here → seen as aggressive/warrior)

Arudha Padas of Houses in D2 (Tangibles)

Arudha Pada Tangible Meaning in D2
AL Overall financial image/status
A2 Actual bank balance, cash in hand
A3 Actual business venture / invested company
A4 Comfort investment
A5 Event establishing earning ability (e.g., closing a major deal)

A10 Financial activities in society
A11 Tangible profit
UL (A12) Rotating/investing money; letting money go

[!TIP] UL in D2: If UL is well-placed from AL (e.g., 5th from AL), losing/investing money makes you look good — you are seen as a capable investor. If UL is badly placed from AL, losses hurt your reputation.

Karakas in D2

  • Karaka for D2: 2nd lord of the Rasi chart
  • Strength of 2nd lord (Rasi) in the D2 chart = indicator of overall financial success

Special Rule — Exalted/Debilitated Planets in D2

"Sakin ucce nike va strimanta" — Parasara: if any planet in D2 is exalted OR debilitated, the person accomplishes much financially.

  • Exalted: money comes easily, person is happy about it
  • Debilitated: money comes through effort/sadness, but still comes

🌟 D2 Example — Ramakrishna Dalmia (Industrialist) {#dalmia}

Birth data: April 7, 1893 · 9:31 AM LMT · Jamnagar, India (85°55'E, 20°56'N) Note: LMT used; standard time not yet established. Offset = +5h 3m 40s from GMT.

Key D2 Chart Features

Feature Placement Significance
Karaka (2nd lord Rasi = Mercury) 3rd house in D2 Initiative-driven financial nature
Mercury from AL 5th house (tribe) World sees him as highly capable
Mercury Conjunct UL Perpetual re-investment of resources; never hoards
Mercury In GL (Gati Lagna) Extremely powerful; access to political/influential circles
UL from AL 5th house Investing money enhances reputation — seen as great investor
Saturn 2nd from AL in D2 World sees resources as Saturnine = industrialist (mines, factories)

Narayana Dasha Sequence in D2

flowchart LR
    C[Cancer Dasha] -->|Hard work, career begins| G[Gemini Dasha]
    G -->|Partnerships, companies formed - A7 present, 11th from AL| L[Libra Dasha]
    L -->|Cement factory, peak industry| V[Virgo Dasha]
    V -->|PEAK - 2nd from AL, Saturn as Yogakaraka = world sees him as industrialist| T[Taurus Dasha]
    T -->|CRISIS - 8th from Lagna, 7th lord in 8th = Maraka; 10th from AL with Mars = aggressive image| X[Downfall]

Taurus Dasha outcome: Period ran 1951–1962. India's independence brought Nehru govt. Dalmia's newspaper criticized Nehru; he was imprisoned; govt took over companies. He died a broken man. Exactly as the dasha indicated: death of the financial life.

[!WARNING] When 7th lord (Maraka) is in 8th house in D2: financial life suffers a death blow. From AL, Mars in 10th house = world sees aggressive, unreasonably warrior-like behavior → causes downfall. Both factors converge in Taurus Dasha.
