📖 BPHS Shloka Study: 11th Lord in Houses 1–6

Source: Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, Ch. 24, verses 121–126 (approx.)

[!NOTE] The 11th lord is the granter of desires — its sole agenda is to fulfill what the native wants. Wherever it is placed, it uses the resources of that house to fulfill desires. It is a functional malefic because the drive to "get what you want" is a binding force (see theoretical section).

Verse 121 — 11th Lord in Lagna (Lābheśe Lagnage)

Lābheśe lagnage jātaḥ sāttvikaḥ dhanavān sukhī. Samadṛṣṭiḥ kavirūvāgmī sadā lābhāsaṃvitaḥ.

Result Reason
Gentle, friendly (sāttvikaḥ) 11th = house of friendship; its lord in Lagna makes person's basic nature very friendly and approachable
Wealthy (dhanavān) 11th lord (profits) in quadrant + trine (Lagna); circulates wealth rather than hoarding; from 2nd: 10th lord in 12th → puts wealth to active use
Contented (sukhī) 11th = fulfillment; lord in Lagna → "I already have what I want" attitude drives basic personality
Balanced, equal vision (samadṛṣṭiḥ) From 5th: 7th lord (quadrant) in 9th (trine) → emotional equilibrium, no extreme highs/lows
Poet, good communicator (kavi, vāgmī) From 3rd: 9th lord in 11th → protects communication skills; dharma of communication fulfilled
Always accompanied by profits 11th lord in quadrant + trine = well-placed; desires are continuously fulfilled

[!TIP] Wealth here = circulation of wealth, not accumulation. From 2nd house: planet is 10th lord (action) in 12th (giving) → always investing, spending, putting money to use. These are the people economies need.

Verse 122 — 11th Lord in 2nd House (Lābheśe Dhanabhāvasthe)

Result Reason
All kinds of wealth (sarva-dhana) 11th lord (gains) directly in 2nd (wealth) — profits flow into accumulated wealth; both fulfillment AND accumulation
All accomplishments (sarva-sampannaḥ) Lord in quadrant from itself — all desires fulfilled and accumulated
Giver (dātā) From 2nd: 10th lord (action) in 12th (spending) → Viparīta yoga from 12th; from 9th: 3rd lord in 6th → Viparīta yoga — dharmic giver who fights for dharma
Dharmic (dhārmika) From 9th: 3rd lord in 6th + bold initiative for dharma; not just dharmic but a fighter for dharma
Always comfortable (sukhe sadā) From 11th: 4th lord gives comfort; Argala on both Lagna and 4th house → contented AND materially comfortable

Verse 123 — 11th Lord in 3rd House (Lābheśe Sahajabhāvasthe)

Lābheśe sahaje jātaḥ kuśalaḥ sarva karmasu. Dhanī bhrātṛ sukhopetaḥ śūla roga bhayaṃ kvacit.

Result Reason
Skillful in all things (kuśalaḥ) From 3rd: 9th lord in Lagna → protection of all 3rd-house matters (skills, courage, communication)
Wealthy Eleventh lord has Dhana Argala (Argala on 2nd) + bhāvat bhāvam from 2nd
Happy with siblings From 3rd: 9th lord in Lagna → siblings fortified
Digestive problems (śūla roga) From 5th (stomach/digestion): 7th lord (Māraka) has Argala on 5th → Māraka influence on digestion

[!NOTE] The Māraka principle: 7th lord from any house afflicts that house. Here 7th lord from 5th (stomach) has Argala on 5th → digestive problems (śūla = colic/shooting pains).

Verse 124 — 11th Lord in 4th House (Lābheśe Sukhabhāvasthe)

Lābheśe sukha bhāvasthe lābho mātr-kulādbhaved. Tīrtha yātrā karo jātaḥ gṛha bhūmi sukhānvitaḥ.

Result Reason
Gains from mother's side 11th lord in 4th (mother's house) → uses mother's resources to fulfill desires
Mother may suffer From 4th as Lagna: 8th lord in Lagna → setbacks for mother herself
Pilgrimages (tīrtha yātrā) From 9th: 3rd lord (travel/initiative) in 8th → Viparīta yoga for travel; Argala on 3rd from Lagna; from 3rd: 9th lord of religion in 8th
Real estate, houses, lands 11th lord (desire-fulfillment) in 4th (property) → fulfills desires through real estate; sudden gains (8th lord from 4th in Lagna)
Instability of residences From 4th as Lagna: 8th lord in Lagna → changes, not settled in one house

Verse 125 — 11th Lord in 5th House (Lābheśe Sutabhāvasthe)

Lābheśe sutabhāvasthe bhavanti sukhinaḥ sutāḥ. Vidyavanto'pi saccīlāḥ svayaṃ dharmarataḥ sukhī.

Result Reason
Children happy (sukhinaḥ sutāḥ) From 5th: 7th lord (quadrant) in Lagna → 5th house fortified
Children educated (vidyavantaḥ) From 5th-of-5th (9th house = children's scholarship): 3rd lord in 9th → initiative for scholarship, protected
Children well-behaved (saccīlāḥ) From 9th-of-5th (Lagna = dharma of children): 11th lord in Purva Puṇya → dharmic foundation
Person himself is dharmic From 9th (Lagna): 3rd lord (initiative) in 9th (protection) → dharma actively protected and pursued
Person is dharma rataḥ (passionate about dharma) Rataḥ = passionate attraction; strong initiative for maintaining dharma
Person is comfortable From Lagna: 11th lord in 5th (Purva Puṇya) has Argala on Lagna → contented

[!TIP] "Vidyavanto'pi saccīlāḥ" — "even though educated, they have good character." Parāśara notes this despite education (in his era, educated people were often proud and ill-behaved).

Verse 126 — 11th Lord in 6th House (Lābheśe Roga Bhāvasthe)

Lābheśe roga bhāvasthe jāto roga samanvitaḥ. Krūra buddhiḥ pravāsī ca śatrubhiḥ paripīḍitaḥ.

Result Reason
Diseased (roga samanvitaḥ) From 6th: Harṣa sthāna (11th is 6th from 6th) → 11th lord in 6th = lord of disease-amplifying position in disease house
Cruel-minded (krūra buddhiḥ) Lord of friendship (11th) in house of enmity (6th) → fights to fulfill desires; not a sadist but a ruthless fighter
Lives abroad (pravāsī) From 9th: 3rd lord (initiative) in 10th; from 12th: 12th lord in 7th (long travel to leave homeland); from 5th (patriotism): 7th lord in 2nd → Māraka to patriotism/homeland
Tormented by enemies Lord of friends in house of enemies → friends turn into enemies

[!NOTE] Teacher self-identifies: "I have 11th lord in 6th house. I'm a Pravāsī!" — Not too many enemies though.

🧠 Theory: Why 3rd, 6th & 11th Lords Are Functional Malefics

"These are not evil, but they are binding forces." — Teacher

House Signification Why Binding
3rd Initiative, desire to act "I want to do this" — root of desire; consumes energy of other houses
6th Fighting, overcoming "I will fight for it at any cost" — ruthless consumption of resources
11th Getting what you want "I will not rest until I achieve it" — fulfillment at any cost
flowchart LR
    A["3rd House\nInitiative / Desire Root"] --> D["Depletes other houses' energy"]
    B["6th House\nFighting / Pursuing"] --> D
    C["11th House\nAchieving / Getting"] --> D
    D --> E["Binds the soul further\n(functional malefic)"]
    F["1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th\nOther quadrant/trine lords"] --> G["Help without depleting\nFunctional benefics"]
    H["2nd, 8th, 12th\nNeutral houses"] --> I["Neither bind nor liberate\n(neutral lords)"]

[!IMPORTANT] Functional malefic ≠ bad results materially. In fact, 3/6/11 are excellent for material gains. They are "malefic" in the spiritual sense — they bind the soul more deeply in material pursuits. In Kali Yuga, this matters most.

🪐 Chart Analysis — Kalyāṇī (Marriage Timing)

Birth Data: October 28, 1981 | 10:45 AM IST | Narasaraopet, India (80°4′E, 16°15′N) Primary Daśā: Caturthāṃśa Daśā (10th lord in 10th house → conditional Daśā applies) Query: Marriage hasn't happened despite earlier prediction for ~April 2009

Rāśi Chart — Key Marriage Indicators

Factor Placement Notes
7th lord Mercury Exalted in own house; with UL lord
Upapada (UL) Lord = Saturn Saturn with Mercury (7th lord)
Venus (from Venus 7th) Mercury is 7th Exalted Mercury = very strong candidate
Viwāha Sāhama 25° Taurus Key marriage point
Factor Placement Notes
Mercury Lagna In Lagna — UL lord, 7th lord strong
Moon 7th house Parivartan with Saturn (7th lord)
Mars (9th lord) With 7th lord Yogakāraka placement

Daśā Timeline

Caturthāṃśa Daśā:
  Mars Mahādaśā (1998 – 2010)
    └── Moon Antardaśā (May 2008 – Feb 2010)
         — Moon in 7th (Navāṃśa), Parivartan with Saturn
         — Previous prediction focused here
  Mercury Mahādaśā (2010 onward)
    └── Mercury Antardaśā (Feb 2010 – Nov 2011)
         — 7th lord + UL lord + exalted
         — *** STRONGEST MARRIAGE CANDIDATE ***

Viṃśottarī:
  Saturn Mahādaśā (current)
└── Mercury Antardaśā → same Mercury

Post-Mortem: Why April 2009 Prediction Failed

Factor Assessment
Mars as 9th lord (Yogakāraka) Gave some hope, but: debilitated in 12th (Navāṃśa) + with Rahu
Moon in 7th (Navāṃśa) Has Parivartan with enemy Saturn → weakens Moon's ability to deliver
Insufficient weighting Mercury was the stronger candidate all along — prediction should have waited for Mercury Daśā

[!WARNING] The error was impatience — predicting within Mars Daśā without noting that Mercury (arriving in Feb 2010) is substantially stronger. Always compare all upcoming candidates before committing.

Tithi Praveśa 2009–10 (Oct 18, 2009 Birthday)

Factor Placement Notes
Hora lord (Ruler of year) Jupiter Gruru–Chāṇḍāla Yoga (22° apart — loose)
Jupiter 11th house, exalted with Ketu UL lord in 11th (5th from 7th) → Purva Puṇya for marriage
Aspect on Viwāha Sāhama (25° Taurus) Jupiter within 2° Very close aspect
Prime marriage window ~April–June 2010 (Jupiter Daśā in TP chart) Coincides with Mercury Daśā start

Tithi Praveśa 2010–11 (Nov 6, 2010 Birthday)

Factor Placement Notes
Ruler of year Venus Lagna lord + 8th lord + UL lord
Venus position 3rd house (Kāma Trikona) In Mūlatrikoṇa — very strong
7th lord Mars In Lagna Seventh lord in Lagna = direct marriage indicator
Venus aspect on Viwāha Sāhama Within orb Perfect aspect
7th lord in Rāśi Venus in 7th (Moola Trikona) with 4th and 6th lords Strong

[!TIP] The 2010–11 TP chart has Venus stronger in Rāśi (no debility unlike Jupiter in 2009–10), plus both 7th lord in Lagna AND Venus-ruled 7th. Teacher's verdict: 2010–11 is the stronger candidate.

Final Revised Prediction

Period Probability Key Factor
Rest of 2009 Very low Rahu/Ketu on 7th; Venus/Sun periods unfavorable
2010 (Apr–Jun) Moderate TP Jupiter + natal Mercury Daśā beginning
2011 Śrāvaṇa (Aug) Highest Venus Daśā in TP 2010–11 + natal Mercury Antardaśā settled

🔮 Praśna Analysis

Praśna cast: July 13, 2009, ~8:28 PM, Dracut, MA

Chart Key Indication
Navāṃśa 7th lord + retrograde Jupiter with Ketu → "astrologer made a prediction but it didn't happen" — past background confirmed
Rāśi Rahu in Lagna, Ketu in 7th → confusion, delay in present
Drekkāṇa (future) 7th lord Moon in 7th + eclipsed by Ketu → either very soon OR very late; Ketu = delay

Conclusion from Praśna: Chart leans toward later rather than sooner → supports 2011 over 2010.

🙏 Remedies & Spiritual Guidance

Remedy Basis
Fast on Saturdays Saturn is 2nd lord from UL → strengthens UL connection to Saturn
Pray to Sadāśiva Jupiter is 2nd lord from UL; Jupiter → Śiva/Sadāśiva
Pray to Subrahmaṇya / Kārttikeyā Dārakāraka = Jupiter; 7th from Jupiter = Mars → Kārttikeyā; also Rahu influence → Sarpa deity = Subrahmaṇya
Wear Emerald (Mercury on little finger) Mercury = 7th lord exalted + UL lord in Navāṃśa; strongest planet for marriage — not Jupiter
Do not recommend Yellow Sapphire Jupiter is 5th + 8th lord in Navāṃśa — not conducive to marriage specifically

[!NOTE] "For marriage, emerald is the best here." — Gemstone should match the planet that specifically activates marriage, not just a benefic planet.
