Nakshatras

27 lunar mansions

🌟 Nakshatras

27 lunar mansions: lord, deity, span, qualities.

Merged across PVR's 100-class v1 series and 99-class v2 series. Shards grouped by series, then by batch (10 classes each).

📋 Table of Contents

📘 v1 Series — 100 classes

v1 Batch 1 — Classes 01–10

Nakshatra Database — Batch 1 (v1–v10)

class-01

  • Vimshottari Dasha is calculated from the Moon's nakshatra at birth (or Lagna nakshatra if Lagna is stronger)
  • 27 nakshatras divide the zodiac; each spans 13°20'

class-02

  • No specific nakshatra content in this class beyond Dasha calculation reminder

class-03

  • No dedicated nakshatra teaching; nakshatras mentioned incidentally in dasha calculation

class-04

  • No dedicated nakshatra content

class-05

  • Panchadasi Mantra nakshatra connection: Not directly discussed, but mantra letter count relates to destination house, which can connect to nakshatra lord

class-06

  • No dedicated nakshatra content

class-07

  • D27 (Bhamsha / Nakshatramsha): This divisional chart corresponds to the nakshatra level; shows strengths and weaknesses of the native
  • Planet in D27 reflects its nakshatra-level strength

class-08

  • No dedicated nakshatra content in this class

class-09

  • No dedicated nakshatra content in this class

class-10

  • No dedicated nakshatra content in this class
  • Nakshatras not a focus of v1–v10; main nakshatra teaching appears to be reserved for later classes

Note: v1–v10 do not have extensive nakshatra-specific teaching. The primary nakshatra reference across all 10 classes is the use of Moon's nakshatra as the starting point for Vimshottari Dasha calculation. Detailed nakshatra significations, lords, and their interpretive use are not covered in this batch.

v1 Batch 2 — Classes 11–20

Nakshatras — Batch 2

Note: Classes 11–20 did not contain a systematic listing of all 27 nakshatras. The entries below are drawn from direct nakshatra references made by PVR during examples and discussions in these classes.

Nakshatra — Anuradha (#17)

Source: class-16 Lord: Saturn Deity: Mitra Span: 3°20' – 16°40' Scorpio Quality/Guna: Tamasic Symbol: Lotus flower Significations: Discipline through friendship and cooperation; intense focus; loyalty; organizational ability; devotion. PVR's tips: When checking natal Moon nakshatra, Anuradha was confirmed as the nakshatra for a student born September 1961 in Secunderabad after confusion with Ashwini (different sign entirely). The nakshatra name helps verify data accuracy alongside the rashi. (class-16)

Nakshatra — Moola (#19)

Source: class-11 Lord: Ketu Deity: Nirriti (goddess of dissolution) Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Sagittarius Quality/Guna: Tamasic Symbol: Tied bunch of roots, elephant goad Significations: Roots, foundations, research, getting to the bottom of things; also destruction before transformation; moksha-oriented; wealth through sudden means. PVR's tips: "Moola literally means root of a plant. The Moola Dasha shows the root — the underlying past-life cause of present events. What you see in Vimshottari is the plant; Moola Dasha shows the underground root feeding it." (class-11). The concept of 'roots' from Moola Nakshatra inspired the naming of Moola Dasha.

Nakshatra — Ashwini (#1)

Source: class-16 Lord: Ketu Deity: Ashwini Kumaras (divine physicians) Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Aries Quality/Guna: Rajasic Symbol: Horse's head Significations: Speed, healing, new beginnings, youthful energy, impulse; physicians and healers. PVR's tips: Mentioned as a candidate nakshatra that was initially proposed (but found incorrect) for a September 1961 Secunderabad birth — used as a negative example to illustrate the importance of checking software output carefully. (class-16)

Additional nakshatra data from classes 11–20 is embedded in technique examples rather than systematic coverage. Comprehensive nakshatra tables from earlier classes (v1–v10) are in nakshatras-b1.md. This batch focused on divisional chart application, Chara Karakas, and Muhurta rather than nakshatra-by-nakshatra enumeration.

v1 Batch 3 — Classes 21–30

Nakshatras — Batch 3 (classes 21–30)

Nakshatra — Dhanishtha (#23)

Source: class-21 Lord: Mars (in Vimshottari scheme) Deity: Ashta Vasus (eight elemental gods) Span: 23°20' Capricorn – 6°40' Aquarius Quality/Guna: Not specified in this batch Symbol: Not specified in this batch Significations: Associated with rhythm, music, martial energy. Moon in Dhanishtha at birth → Mars Dasha begins first in Vimshottari. Swami Jayendra Saraswati born with Moon in Dhanishtha 4th quarter, therefore his Vimshottari starts with Mars Dasha. Tips: The sequence after Dhanishtha: Satabhisha (Rahu), Purva Bhadra (Jupiter), Uttara Bhadra (Saturn), Revati (Mercury), Ashwini (Ketu), Bharani (Venus), Krittika (Sun), Rohini (Moon) — completing the 9-dasha cycle.

Nakshatra — Purva Ashada (#20)

Source: class-30 Lord: Venus (in Vimshottari scheme) Deity: Apas (waters) Span: 13°20' – 26°40' Sagittarius Quality/Guna: Not specified in this batch Symbol: Not specified in this batch Significations: Moon in Purva Ashada → Moon is under the influence of Venus as nakshatra lord. In Dasha analysis, the nakshatra dispositor of the Moon (Venus here) plays a role in coloring the results of dashas involving Moon. Tips: The nakshatra lord (Purva Ashada's owner is Venus in Vimshottari scheme, but the actual deity/ruler is Apas). Nakshatra dispositor analysis — whose nakshatra the dasha lord is in — adds a layer of interpretation not yet covered in basics; PVR notes it is important but deferred.

Nakshatra — General — 27-nakshatra vs. 28-nakshatra schemes

Source: class-27 Lord: N/A (general principle) Deity: Each nakshatra has its own deity (e.g., Uttara Bhadra = Ahirbudhnya, one of 11 Rudras; Purva Bhadra = Aja Ekapada, a form of Vishnu) Span: 13°20' each (27 × 13°20' = 360°) Quality/Guna: Not specified Symbol: Not specified Significations: The 27-nakshatra scheme is mundane/physical; the 28-nakshatra scheme (includes Abhijit) is more spiritual. Abhijit is the portion of Uttara Ashada and is used in spiritual/esoteric chakras (Sarvartha Paksha Chakra, etc.) but NOT in nakshatra Dashas (most of them). Tips: The lords used in Vimshottari or other dashas (e.g., "Purva Bhadra is owned by Jupiter") are only the dasha-scheme lords, not the actual deities of the nakshatras. The actual rulers are the 27 specific deities.

v1 Batch 4 — Classes 31–40

Nakshatras — Batch 4 (Classes 31–40)

Ardra Nakshatra (Class 39)

  • Ruler: Rahu (in Parashari system); in deeper mythological sense, Ardra is the nakshatra of Rudra.
  • Deity: Rudra — the fierce aspect of Shiva. Rudra = one who cries (ru = crying, dra = one who does); also interpreted as "one who drives away suffering."
  • Symbol: Teardrop or diamond (representing the fierceness and brilliance of Rudra's energy).
  • Nature: Fierce, transformative, destructive-for-creation. Ardra energy breaks down old structures to allow new growth.
  • Mundane significance: Ardra Pravesha (Sun's entry into Ardra) = one of the important new year charts in mundane Jyotish. Used in parts of India (especially Kerala and neighboring states) as the new year marker.
  • Rahu-Rudra connection: Since Rahu rules Ardra and Rudra is the deity, there is a direct connection between Rahu's nature (foreign, unconventional, transformative) and Rudra's energy (fierce change, storm). Ketu = terrorism/fanatics in mundane charts (Class 38) links back to the Rahu-Ketu axis and Ardra's fierce nature.
  • India Chart Connection (Class 39): India gained independence during Ardra period — PVR noted the Rahu (Ardra) influence on India's founding chart in the context of India-Pakistan comparison.

Nakshatra and Vimshottari Starting Point (Class 38)

  • Standard rule: Use Moon's nakshatra position at birth to determine the starting Vimshottari dasha.
  • Alternate (Lagna nakshatra): When Lagna is stronger than Moon, or for mundane/country charts, start Vimshottari from Lagna's nakshatra.
  • Class 38: For Pakistan mundane chart, PVR used Lagna nakshatra Vimshottari, which gave accurate results for major national events.

Surya Nakshatra — Surya Vimshottari (Class 38)

  • Usage: Surya Vimshottari (dasha starting from Sun's nakshatra) is used for:
    1. Conception charts
    2. Spiritual/occult charts
    3. Situations where the chart represents a specific moment of spiritual event
  • Not generally used for standard birth charts.

Nakshatra Ruler — Dasha Applicability Notes (Class 31)

  • Class 31: Vimshottari Dasha applicability checks must be done before using it as primary dasha:
    • Is the native's Moon stronger than Lagna → use Moon nakshatra Vimshottari
    • Is Lagna stronger → consider Lagna nakshatra
    • Are there conditional dashas that qualify (e.g., Saptati Sama, Dwadashottari)? Check first.

v1 Batch 5 — Classes 41–50

Nakshatras — Batch 5 (Classes 41–50)

class-47

Abhijit Nakshatra (28th Nakshatra)

  • Definition: Abhijit is the 28th nakshatra in the extended system (the other 27 are the standard set). It spans a small arc within the Capricorn-Sagittarius cusp, corresponding to approximately 6°40' to 10°53'20" Capricorn.
  • Muhurta association: Abhijit Muhurta is when the Sun is in the 10th house at the exact degree of the Lagna. This corresponds to the highest point of the daily solar arc — the peak of solar power.
  • Significance: The most auspicious of all muhurtas (timing windows). "Abhijit" = unconquerable, undefeated. Any birth or beginning during this brief window carries the Sun's full power aligned with the ascending Lagna.
  • Practical identification: In jHora or any chart software, Abhijit Muhurta for a specific day occurs for only a short window (roughly 24 minutes around local solar noon) when the Sun's degree exactly matches the Lagna degree in the 10th house.
  • In birth charts: If someone is born during Abhijit Muhurta, their chart carries special solar power regardless of other placements.
  • In annual charts: If the Tithi Pravesh (annual chart) begins during Abhijit Muhurta, that year is marked by extraordinary auspiciousness.
  • Source: v47

Panchanga Nakshatra (Daily Nakshatra)

  • The nakshatra of the day = one of the five Panchanga elements (Vara, Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana).
  • The nakshatra lord of the day (the planet ruling the current nakshatra) is one of the five lords in the Panchanga analysis of the annual chart.
  • When the Hora lord (year ruler) is friendly with the Nakshatra lord of the day, the events of that day/period within the year flow harmoniously.
  • When the Hora lord and Nakshatra lord are inimical, friction and obstacles arise during that period.
  • Source: v47

class-48

Nakshatra-Based Sub-Period Calculations (Vimshottari Sequence)

  • Vimshottari Dasha periods are rooted in the nakshatra of the Moon at birth (Janma Nakshatra).
  • The length of the first dasha = determined by how far Moon has traveled through its nakshatra at birth.
  • When birth time is off by M minutes and the first dasha is N years: dasha dates shift by approximately M × N ÷ 4 days.
  • This means for a Moon-based system, the birth nakshatra position (Moon's longitude) accuracy is critical.
  • Source: v48, v49

class-49

Nakshatra Lords and Their Associations (Hora System)

  • The planetary hours (Hora) cycle through the seven planets in the order of their distance from Earth: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, then repeating.
  • This is also related to the order of weekday names: Saturday (Saturn), Sunday (Sun), Monday (Moon), Tuesday (Mars/Mangala), Wednesday (Mercury/Budha), Thursday (Jupiter/Guru), Friday (Venus/Shukra).
  • The Hora lord at sunrise gives the universal day its name and ruler.
  • The personal Hora lord (for the daily Tithi Pravesh chart) is the planetary hour running at the moment the person's private day begins.
  • Source: v49

class-50

Nakshatra Context — No specific new nakshatra teaching

  • Classes v50 focused primarily on divisional chart analysis, dashas, and yogas without introducing new nakshatra-specific content.
  • The Panchanga elements (including nakshatra) were referenced in the context of annual chart analysis (v47 content extended).
  • Source: v50 (no new nakshatra material)

v1 Batch 6 — Classes 51–60

Nakshatras — Batch 6 (classes 51–60)

Nakshatra — Revati (#27)

Source: class-59
Revati is the 27th nakshatra, spanning the last portion of Pisces (degrees 16°40' to 30°00' Pisces). It occupies 4 out of the 9 nakshatra padas in Pisces. Since the Indian Chaitra lunar new year is defined as Sun-Moon conjunction in Pisces, there is a ~4/9 probability that Moon will be in Revati at the time of the new year chart. Both the 1900 Galveston hurricane year chart and the 2005 Hurricane Katrina year chart had Moon in Revati — the teacher noted this as a high baseline probability rather than a unique correlation.

Nakshatra — General Principle: Moon's Nakshatra Supersedes Sign

Source: class-59
When analyzing mundane charts, Moon's nakshatra is considered even more important than Moon's sign. Moon rules the division of the zodiac into 27 nakshatras; therefore, the nakshatra Moon occupies is the primary descriptor of the Moon's quality and influence. This principle applies in both natal and mundane (country/city) chart analysis.

Nakshatra — Nakshatra Padas in Pisces (for New Year Timing)

Source: class-59
Pisces contains 9 nakshatra padas: 1 pada of Uttara Bhadrapada (#26) completing it, followed by 4 padas of Revati (#27). The Chaitra Shukla Pratipada (Indian lunar new year) begins at the Sun-Moon conjunction in Pisces. Depending on the exact degree of conjunction, the nakshatra may be Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati. The longitude of the conjunction in both 1900 and 2005 new year charts was identical (both times Sun and Moon were at the same degrees and minutes — the definition of new moon/Amavasya end), confirming astronomical determinism in that comparison.

Nakshatra — Nakshatra as Measure for Hora Lord Determination

Source: class-51, class-59
The hora lord at the exact moment a new year (Tithi Pravesha or lunar new year) begins is the true ruler of that year — not the weekday lord of the following sunrise. The teacher argued that the traditional practice of using the next-day weekday lord for mundane new year charts is a civil-calendar distortion (for celebration purposes), not the astrologically correct hora-at-start-of-year formula that is validly used in personal Tithi Pravesha charts.

v1 Batch 7 — Classes 61–70

Nakshatras — Batch 7 (v61–v70)

class-62

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Krittika and Rohini

  • Krittika (nakshatra #3): Deity = Agni (fire). Sukta mantra begins: "Om Agnirnah pathu krittika..." Agni is the transformative deity who purifies.
  • Rohini (nakshatra #4): Deity = Prajapati (lord of creation). Sukta mantra for Rohini praises the creative principle.
  • Both recited at start of class v62.

Abhijit Nakshatra

  • Abhijit Muhurta = the moment when Sun is exactly on the 10th house cusp (not literally 12 noon). This is the real principle behind "12 o'clock is auspicious."
  • Abhijit is the 28th nakshatra (used in Sarvatobhadra Chakra, which uses 28 nakshatras).

class-63

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Mrigashira and Ardra

  • Mrigashira (nakshatra #5): Deity = Soma (Moon deity). "Om yam devah somasya prithivim..." The gentle, searching energy of the deer.
  • Ardra (nakshatra #6): Deity = Rudra (storm deity, form of Shiva). Rudra mantra for Ardra: "Om triyambakam yajamahe..." Performing Rudra homam during Ardra Tribhagi period amplifies the period's intensity.
  • Ardra = fire deity within the Tribhagi nakshatra system; each nakshatra is a "station of prana vayu."

Punarvasu Deity

  • Punarvasu (nakshatra #7): Deity = Aditi (mother of all gods). Aditi represents boundlessness, return to original state, renewal. "Punar" = again, "vasu" = light/good.

class-64

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Punarvasu and Pushya

  • Punarvasu (nakshatra #7): Deity = Aditi. Mantra recited at start of v64. Aditi = mother of all gods.
  • Pushya (nakshatra #8): Deity = Brihaspati (Jupiter, divine teacher). Pushya is the most auspicious nakshatra for beginning important activities; deity is the preceptor of gods.

class-66

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Ashlesha and Magha

  • Ashlesha (nakshatra #9): Deity = Sarpa (serpent deities). Ashlesha is entwining, clinging; Naga/Sarpa deities = occult wisdom and kundalini energy.
  • Magha (nakshatra #10): Deity = Pitrus (ancestors). Magha = "the great one"; strongly connected to ancestral lineage and pitru tarpana.
  • Career chart (army officer): Ketu rules Ashlesha and Mula; Ketu-ruled nakshatra in 10th house → foot soldiers. Mars in Ketu-ruled 10th = high-ranking military officer.

class-67

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Purva Phalguni and Uttara Phalguni

  • Purva Phalguni (nakshatra #11): Deity = Aryaman (one of the Adityas, god of contracts and unions). Mantra: "Om gavam pati phalguninam asitvam tadaryaman..." Aryaman governs partnerships, agreements, social bonds.
  • Uttara Phalguni (nakshatra #12): Deity = Bhaga (one of the 12 Adityas, god of passion and energy). "Bhaga" literally = passion/prosperity. "Shreshtho devanam bhagavo bhagasi..." Bhaga is a form of Surya; he gives energy and prosperity in whatever one does.

class-68

Nakshatra Sukta Mantras — Hasta and Chitra

  • Hasta (nakshatra #13): Deity = Savita (solar deity of skill and craftsmanship; form of Sun who inspires action). "Savita" means "the one who sets in motion."
  • Chitra (nakshatra #14): Deity = Tvashtr (craftsman of the gods, divine architect) also called Swastha (well-being deity). Chitra = brilliant, sparkling; associated with creation and design.

class-69 and class-70

Nakshatra in D-30 Analysis

  • Moon's nakshatra position in D-30 reveals the ELEMENT of the mental weakness: sign owner's element = nature of subconscious flaw.
  • Saturnine sign (Capricorn/Aquarius): Vayu tattva weakness → wandering mind, instability, going from thought to thought.
  • Martian sign (Aries/Scorpio): Agni tattva → anger, irritability, fiery reactions.
  • Mercurian sign (Gemini/Virgo): Prithvi/Bhu tattva → attachment, clinging to things.
  • Jupiterian sign (Sagittarius/Pisces): Akasha/Ether tattva → philosophical emptiness or detachment issues.
  • Venusian sign (Taurus/Libra): Jal tattva → emotional attachment, watery emotional weakness.
  • D-30 signs never include Cancer and Leo; the 10 signs are organized in 5 pairs: Mars (Aries+Scorpio), Venus (Taurus+Libra), Mercury (Gemini+Virgo), Jupiter (Sagittarius+Pisces), Saturn (Capricorn+Aquarius).

Anuradha and Revati Nakshatras

  • v70 example (Pisces Lagna child): Birth nakshatra = Anuradha; at birth, Revati dasha running (not the worst dasha). Check Sathyani dasha if Sun, Rahu, or Ketu dasha is running → more problems expected.

v1 Batch 8 — Classes 71–80

Nakshatras — Batch 8 (Classes 71–80)

Class 72 — Nakshatra in Tithi Pravesh Analysis

  • Nakshatra of Moon at Tithi Pravesh: The Moon's nakshatra in the annual chart contributes to the year's overall quality for specific topics. When Moon is in a nakshatra whose lord aspects key Arudhas, it activates those topics during the year.

Class 73 — Nakshatra Deities and Mantras

  • Anuradha nakshatra deity: Mitra. The mantra for Anuradha is addressed to Mitra (the deity of friendship, contracts, agreements). Anuradha natives have natural diplomatic ability and are skilled at maintaining relationships.
  • Jyestha nakshatra deity: Indra. The mantra for Jyestha is addressed to Indra (king of gods, ruler, commander). Jyestha natives have commanding authority and leadership tendencies.
  • Swati nakshatra deity: Vayu (wind god). Swati is associated with independence, movement, and dispersal like the wind.
  • Vishakha nakshatra deity: Indra + Agni jointly (dual deity). The dual nature reflects both achievement-focus (Indra) and transformative drive (Agni). Vishakha natives are intensely focused on reaching their goals with fiery determination.
  • Moola nakshatra deity: Nirriti (goddess of dissolution/calamity/chaos). Moola is the most destructive nakshatra in the Gandanta cluster; its deity rules the breaking-down of things.

Class 73 — Gandanta Nakshatras

  • Scorpio-Sagittarius Gandanta (Jyestha-Moola junction): The most critical and dangerous Gandanta point. The last navamsa of Scorpio (Jyestha's final portion) and the first navamsa of Sagittarius (Moola's opening) form the most severe junction.
    • Why most dangerous: Scorpio is water (fixed, stagnant), Sagittarius is fire. When water meets fire it creates explosive steam — destructive transformation.
    • Native born with Moon in this Gandanta may face severe challenges in early life (family, father's wellbeing).
  • Other Gandanta junctions: Cancer-Leo (Ashlesha-Magha) and Pisces-Aries (Revati-Ashwini) are also Gandanta points but less severe than Jyestha-Moola.
  • Duration of Gandanta: Last six Gatikas (144 minutes) of Jyestha and first eight Gatikas (192 minutes) of Moola — this is specifically for Moon. In general, the last navamsa and first navamsa of the relevant signs form the Gandanta zone.
  • Gatica measurement: One Gatica (also Gati, Nalika, Nadi) = 1/60th of a day = 24 minutes. One Vighatica (Vinad) = 1/60th of a Gatica = 24 seconds.

Class 73 — Nakshatra of Lagna Rectification

  • Visakha Navamsa as Lagna indicator: If the native's Lagna is in Visakha Trivarga (the cluster of nakshatras associated with Visakha), the Navamsa rising point falls in a specific range. In Sarita's case (from v74): "She belongs to Visakha Trivarga. Her rising point, Lagna, is in Visakha Trivarga."

Class 74 — Nakshatra as Dasha Timing Tool

  • Nakshatra of Dasha Lord: The nakshatra placement of a dasha lord affects when and how strongly it gives results. A dasha lord in Moola or other critical nakshatras may give delayed or transformed results.
  • Ardra nakshatra in context of education: When the ninth lord (education) has Moon's Ardra, Moon is capable of giving bachelor-level education during its period.

Class 75 — Nakshatra and Stock Market

  • Kartika Shukla Pratipada: The financial new year chart is not nakshatra-specific per se, but the Moon's nakshatra and the nakshatra of hora lord at the time of Kartika Shukla Pratipada Chakra influence the stock market trend for the year.

Class 77 — Navamsa and Nakshatra Basis

  • Navamsa corresponds to nakshatra padas: Each nakshatra has four padas (quarters). Each pada corresponds to one Navamsa. The Navamsa lagna is determined by which pada the birth Lagna falls in. This is why all twelve Rashi cusps at the same degree map to the same Navamsa sign.
  • Nakshatra and Katapayadi: In Jaimini's Katapayadi system, nakshatra names can be encoded to reveal planetary numbers or rashi numbers. Syllable mapping determines hidden meanings in Jaimini Sutras.

Class 79 — Nakshatra-Based Deity Determination

  • Moon's nakshatra and Paksha for deity selection: When Moon is in 12th from Karakamsha, the specific form of Moon's deity (Gauri or Kali) is determined by the nakshatra of Moon combined with the lunar phase (Shukla Paksha or Krishna Paksha) and tithi at birth. Different phases reveal different Shakti forms.

Class 80 — Nakshatra and Scorpio Gandanta

  • Scorpio's nature: Scorpio = stagnant fixed water (gutters, swamps, sewers). Diseases from Scorpio-afflicted charts are related to stagnant water environments, sewage, inert toxic buildup.
  • Moola and dissolution: Moola nakshatra in Sagittarius (Gandanta entry) is associated with Nirriti = dissolution, exposure of roots. Consistent with Rahu's "Varaha" nature of uncovering/revealing what is hidden underground.

v1 Batch 9 — Classes 81–90

Nakshatras — Batch 9 (classes 81–90)

class-82 | Eka Nakshatra Dosha — Afflicted Nakshatras

Definition: When two members of the same family are born in the same nakshatra, one will suffer.

All 27 nakshatras are potentially affected by this dosha when shared between family members.

Special severity (Tritara Dosha): Three generations (grandparent, parent, child) in the same nakshatra = extremely dangerous.

Remedy: Nakshatra Devata puja + homa with nakshatra mantra 108 times.

class-90 | Gandanta Nakshatras — The Six Boundary Nakshatras

Definition: Three pairs of nakshatras straddle the water-fire sign junctions (Gandanta points):

Junction Final Nakshatra (Water) First Nakshatra (Fire) Severity
Pisces → Aries Revati (last of Pisces) Ashwini (first of Aries) Standard
Cancer → Leo Ashlesha (last of Cancer) Magha (first of Leo) Standard
Scorpio → Sagittarius Jyeshtha (last of Scorpio) Mula (first of Sagittarius) Most severe

Duration at each boundary:

  • Revati/Ashwini: 2 ghatikas (~26 arc minutes of Moon) on each side
  • Ashlesha/Magha: 2 ghatikas on each side
  • Jyeshtha end: 5 ghatikas (extra severe at exit)
  • Mula beginning: 8 ghatikas (most severe of all — Mula is "root of the universe," extremely powerful junction)

class-90 | Jyeshtha Nakshatra — Gandanta Details

Jyeshtha = 18th nakshatra (Scorpio, 16°40' – 30°00')
Ruler: Mercury
Devata: Indra
Symbol: Circular amulet, umbrella, earring

Gandanta detail: The last 5 ghatikas of Jyeshtha (approximately the last ~2°10' of Scorpio) constitute the Gandanta zone at the Jyeshtha end. Moon in this zone at birth = Jyeshtha-Mula Gandanta, very severe.

Severity context: Jyeshtha means "eldest/greatest" — the boundary of Jyeshtha represents the end of the established order, which makes it especially turbulent.

class-90 | Mula Nakshatra — Gandanta Details

Mula = 19th nakshatra (Sagittarius, 0°00' – 13°20')
Ruler: Ketu
Devata: Nirrti (goddess of dissolution/chaos/transformation)

Gandanta detail: The first 8 ghatikas of Mula (approximately the first ~3°27' of Sagittarius) constitute the Gandanta zone at the Mula end. Moon in this zone at birth = most severe Gandanta.

Why most severe: Mula means "root" or "beginning" — the very root of a new cosmic cycle. The transition into Mula is turbulent because it represents complete dissolution before rebuilding. Nirrti as devata amplifies this dissolution energy.

Donation remedy for Mula Gandanta: Gold donation (suvarna dana) — Mula being under Ketu's rulership and Jupiter's sign (Sagittarius), gold is appropriate.

class-90 | Revati Nakshatra — Gandanta Note

Revati = 27th nakshatra (Pisces, 16°40' – 30°00')
Ruler: Mercury
Devata: Pushan (nourisher, protector of travelers)

Gandanta: The last 2 ghatikas of Revati before Ashwini begins. Standard 2-ghatika Gandanta. The Revati-Ashwini boundary is the end of the entire nakshatra wheel — symbolically the end of one cosmic cycle and beginning of another.

class-90 | Ashwini Nakshatra — Gandanta Note

Ashwini = 1st nakshatra (Aries, 0°00' – 13°20')
Ruler: Ketu
Devata: Ashwini Kumaras (divine physicians)

Gandanta: The first 2 ghatikas of Ashwini. Standard 2-ghatika Gandanta. Despite being the healing nakshatra (Ashwini Kumaras = divine healers), Moon in Gandanta here still requires the Gandanta Shanti.

class-90 | Ashlesha Nakshatra — Gandanta Note

Ashlesha = 9th nakshatra (Cancer, 16°40' – 30°00')
Ruler: Mercury
Devata: Naga (serpent deities)

Gandanta: The last 2 ghatikas of Ashlesha. This junction (Ashlesha-Magha) crosses from Cancer to Leo = water to fire. Ashlesha is associated with serpent energy and Mercury's duplicity; the Gandanta here has themes of shedding the old form.

class-90 | Magha Nakshatra — Gandanta Note

Magha = 10th nakshatra (Leo, 0°00' – 13°20')
Ruler: Ketu
Devata: Pitrs (ancestors)

Gandanta: The first 2 ghatikas of Magha. Leo begins here — fire sign. Magha is associated with ancestral blessings and royal lineage; its Gandanta zone represents entering the realm of ancestral power at a turbulent crossing.

class-81 | Nakshatra — Guru Purnima Reference

Context: Class-81 ended on Guru Purnima. Teacher recommended:

  • Meditation and mantra japa during Purnima (full moon day).
  • Reciting: "Om Namo Bhagavate Satya Devaya" (for Satyanarayana / Lord Vishnu) 108 times.
  • Praying to Parashara: "Om Parashara Namah" or "Om Parashara Maharshaye Namah."
  • Praying to Jaimini: "Om Jaiminaye Namah" or "Om Jaimini Maharshaye Namah."

Note: The full moon (Purnima) nakshatra is always the nakshatra in which the Moon is at its fullest — varies by Purnima. Kartik Purnima and Guru Purnima are especially powerful Purnima days for astronomical and spiritual reasons.

class-83 | Vimshottari Dasha — Nakshatra-Based Starting Point

Key teaching: Standard Vimshottari Dasha uses the Janma Nakshatra (Moon's natal nakshatra) as the starting point. Special variations (Kshama Vimshottari) use the nakshatra with the most planets in quadrants.

Kshama application: For longevity assessment specifically, if Kshama Vimshottari has more planets in quadrants from its starting nakshatra than the standard Janma nakshatra, Kshama may be more accurate for predicting death timing.

v1 Batch 10 — Classes 91–100

Nakshatras — Batch 10 (classes 91–100)

Nakshatra — Moola (#19)

Source: class-91, class-92 Lord: Ketu Deity: Niritti (goddess of destruction/dissolution; Rakshasa nature) Adhidevata (secondary deity): Indra Pratyardhidevata (counter deity): Jala devata (water deity) — per class-91 Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Sagittarius (sidereal) Quality: Tikshna (sharp/fierce); Rakshasa gana Symbol: Tied roots / bundle of roots; elephant goad (ankusha) Significations:

  • Roots; foundations; destruction of foundations
  • Research; digging into roots of matters
  • Powerful but potentially destructive beginnings
  • Medicine (herbal; Moola = roots = herbs) Birth significance:
  • Birth in Moola nakshatra = inauspicious for father-in-law (pithamaha / father's father)
  • First few ghatikas (especially first ghatika) = most severe; danger for father-in-law
  • Requires Abhuta Moola Shanti ritual
  • Severity scale: 3 cows (godana) as minimum alternative to full shanti Tips:
  • The Rakshasa idol for Moola Shanti (class-91): gold or black, two-headed, wolf-face, sword, skin-wrapped, seated on corpse = iconographic representation of Niritti
  • Indra mantra recited 100/108/1000 times in homa despite Niritti being primary deity (Indra = adhidevata = the deity you petition for protection)

Nakshatra — Jyeshtha (#18)

Source: class-92 Lord: Mercury Deity: Indra (king of gods; leader) Adhidevata: Agni (fire; purification) Pratyardhidevata: Rakshasa (demon force — the opposing adversarial energy) Span: 16°40' – 30°00' Scorpio (sidereal) Quality: Tikshna (sharp/fierce); deva gana (despite fierce quality) Symbol: Circular amulet or umbrella; also earring Significations:

  • Seniority; being the eldest; leadership
  • Authority and command
  • Protection of those under one's care
  • Potential jealousy from or conflict with elders/leaders Gandanta significance:
  • Jyeshtha-Moola junction (30° Scorpio – 0° Sagittarius) = water-fire boundary = Scorpio-Sagittarius Gandanta
  • Birth here = inauspicious for elder sibling
  • Requires Jyeshtha Gandanta Shanti ritual
  • Indra = primary devata for this shanti (Jyeshtha's ruler)
  • Severity: 3 cows for Jyeshtha gandanta Tips:
  • Indra's iconography for shanti: riding Airavata (white elephant), holding vajra (thunderbolt) + ankusha (elephant goad)
  • Agni as adhidevata explains why fire homa is central to all Jyeshtha-related shantis

Nakshatra — Ashlesha (#9)

Source: class-92 Lord: Mercury Deity: Nagas (serpent deities) Span: 16°40' – 30°00' Cancer (sidereal) Gandanta significance:

  • Ashlesha-Magha junction (30° Cancer – 0° Leo) = water-fire boundary = Cancer-Leo Gandanta
  • Birth here = inauspicious (specific harm: same category as Moola)
  • Severity: 3 cows for godana alternative Significations: Coiling; serpentine energy; hidden toxins; medical/poison knowledge; deception; deep psychic sensitivity

Nakshatra — Magha (#10)

Source: class-92 Lord: Ketu Deity: Pitrs (ancestral spirits) Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Leo (sidereal) Gandanta significance:

  • Magha = first nakshatra of Leo; birth at the very start = entry from Ashlesha gandanta
  • Severity: 3 cows (same as Ashlesha end) Significations: Ancestral honour; royalty; patronage; authority from lineage; throne

Nakshatra — Revati (#27)

Source: class-92 Lord: Mercury Deity: Pushan (nourisher; guide of journeys) Span: 16°40' – 30°00' Pisces (sidereal) Gandanta significance:

  • Revati-Ashwini junction (30° Pisces – 0° Aries) = water-fire boundary = Pisces-Aries Gandanta
  • Birth here = inauspicious (milder than Moola/Jyeshtha)
  • Severity: 2 cows Significations: Nourishment; completion; ending of cycles; care for animals; music; prosperity through service

Nakshatra — Ashwini (#1)

Source: class-92 Lord: Ketu Deity: Ashwini Kumaras (divine physicians; twin horsemen) Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Aries (sidereal) Gandanta significance:

  • Ashwini = first nakshatra of Aries; birth at very start = entry from Revati gandanta
  • Severity: 2 cows (same as Revati end) Significations: Healing; speed; horses; new beginnings; pioneering medical care; vitality

Nakshatra — General Gandanta Principle

Source: class-92 Definition: Gandanta = inauspicious junction between a water sign (Pisces/Cancer/Scorpio) and a fire sign (Aries/Leo/Sagittarius). The last degrees of water and first degrees of fire form this sensitive zone. Three Gandantas:

  1. Pisces–Aries (Revati–Ashwini) — mildest; 2 cows
  2. Cancer–Leo (Ashlesha–Magha) — moderate/severe; 3 cows
  3. Scorpio–Sagittarius (Jyeshtha–Moola) — most severe; 3 cows each Why inauspicious: Water and fire are fundamentally incompatible; the junction is a point of instability in the zodiac; the soul entering at this point carries a specific tension that requires ritual resolution Remedy principle: The shanti ritual addresses the specific nakshatra deity at the junction to pacify the destabilizing energy

📗 v2 Series — 99 classes

v2 Batch 1 — Classes 01–10

Nakshatras — Batch 1 (Classes 01–10)

Note: Classes 01–10 are focused primarily on BPHS house chapters (2nd through 7th houses) and do not contain a dedicated nakshatra lecture. The following entries are drawn from incidental references to specific nakshatras within chart analysis and discussions.

Nakshatra References in Classes 01–10

N-001 · Mrigashira (Nakshatra 5)

Source: class-10 Lord: Mars Deity: Soma (Moon god) Span: 23°20' Taurus – 6°40' Gemini Reference: PVR refers to Mrigashira in the context of Saturn transiting through it in the CA businessman's chart: "Saturn is in Mrigashira, AA [amsha], which shows tangible suffering." This places Saturn in late Taurus / early Gemini in that transit context. Quality: Mrigashira = "the searching head" — always searching, restless, curious.

N-002 · Revati (Nakshatra 27) — Gandanta Boundary

Source: class-07 Lord: Mercury Deity: Pushan Span: 16°40' – 30° Pisces Reference: PVR discusses Gandanta in class-07 in the context of P. Kalyan's Mars placement. Revati → Ashwini transition is one of the three Gandanta zones (water sign end → fire sign start). Gandanta Note: The last 3°20' of Revati and the first 3°20' of Ashwini form the Revati-Ashwini Gandanta. A planet here is in a "knot" (ganda = knot, anta = end) — a zone of spiritual/karmic intensity. For spiritual charts, Gandanta = potential for either extreme suffering OR deep spiritual breakthrough.

N-003 · Ashwini (Nakshatra 1) — Gandanta Boundary

Source: class-07 Lord: Ketu Deity: Ashwini Kumaras (divine physicians) Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Aries Reference: Mars "in Gandanta" in class-07 refers to Mars in the early degrees of Ashwini (or late Revati), the Aries-Pisces Gandanta. "Mars is in very deep Gandanta. Mm." — PVR and students emphasize the depth of the Gandanta placement. Quality: Ashwini = swift, healing, initiating. Ketu-ruled → connected to past-life karma and moksha themes.

N-004 · Jyeshtha → Mula Gandanta

Source: class-07 (implied in Gandanta discussion) Reference: PVR mentions the three Gandanta zones. Jyeshtha (Scorpio) → Mula (Sagittarius) is the second Gandanta zone. Especially powerful for spiritual and karmic disruptions. Jyeshtha Lord: Mercury | Deity: Indra | Span: 16°40'–30° Scorpio Mula Lord: Ketu | Deity: Nirriti (Goddess of dissolution) | Span: 0°–13°20' Sagittarius

N-005 · Aslesha → Magha Gandanta

Source: class-07 (implied in Gandanta discussion) Reference: Third Gandanta zone. Cancer end → Leo start. Aslesha Lord: Mercury | Deity: Sarpa (snakes) | Span: 16°40'–30° Cancer Magha Lord: Ketu | Deity: Pitrs (ancestors) | Span: 0°–13°20' Leo

Vimshottari Dasha sequence follows nakshatra lords: Ketu→Venus→Sun→Moon→Mars→Rahu→Jupiter→Saturn→Mercury

Nakshatra in Vimshottari Starting Point

Source: class-07, class-10 The Moon's nakshatra at birth sets the starting Vimshottari dasha. The remaining years in the birth dasha are calculated by the Moon's position within that nakshatra (proportion of nakshatra traversed = proportion of dasha consumed).

PVR uses this to calculate: "He ran Capricorn Dasha [in Drik Dasha] from 1998 February till 2006 February." This is from Drik Dasha, not Vimshottari, but the Moon's nakshatra position still anchors the Vimshottari balance.

v2 Batch 2 — Classes 11–20

Nakshatras – Batch 2 (Classes v11–v20)

Tara (Nakshatra Compatibility) System

  • class:: v17, v18, v19

The Nine Taras

  • Tara = position of a nakshatra relative to a reference nakshatra
  • Sequence cycles in groups of 9, repeating through the 27 nakshatras:
    1. Janma (birth) — neutral to slightly difficult
    2. Sampat (wealth) — very auspicious
    3. Vipat (danger/loss) — difficult
    4. Kshema (well-being) — very auspicious
    5. Pratyari (obstacle/enemy) — difficult
    6. Sadhaka (accomplishing) — auspicious
    7. Vadha (destruction/harm) — very difficult
    8. Mitra (friend) — auspicious
    9. Atimitra (great friend) — very auspicious

Murti Nirnaya (Transit Quality via Tara)

  • class:: v16, v17
  • Group the 9 taras into sets of 3 for transit quality assessment:
    • Taras 1-2-3 (Janma, Sampat, Vipat) → Suvarna (gold) quality = very good results
    • Taras 4-5-6 (Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhaka) → Rajata (silver) quality = good results
    • Taras 7-8-9 (Vadha, Mitra, Atimitra) → Tamra (copper) quality = difficult/bad results
    • (Some traditions add Loha/iron = very bad for certain sub-groups)
  • Calculate Tara by counting from natal Moon nakshatra to transiting planet's nakshatra
  • Used to assess whether any transit is fundamentally favorable or unfavorable for the individual

Tara Matching in Marriage Compatibility

  • class:: v17, v18
  • Tara matching = check the Tara of the groom's nakshatra from the bride's Moon nakshatra, and vice versa
  • Auspicious Taras: 2 (Sampat), 4 (Kshema), 6 (Sadhaka), 8 (Mitra), and especially 9 (Atimitra)
  • Inauspicious Taras: 3 (Vipat), 5 (Pratyari), 7 (Vadha)
  • Tara 1 (Janma) is mixed/neutral
  • Both partners' Tara checks must be favorable for a good match

Progress Moon Nakshatra

  • class:: v17
  • For Tara calculation during a Dasha period, use the Progress Moon nakshatra (not natal Moon)
  • The Progress Moon nakshatra = Moon's nakshatra at the current/active stage of the person's life
  • This gives more accurate Tara assessment for transiting planets during the active Dasha

Gunamela Chakra (Nakshatra-Based Compatibility Table)

  • class:: v18, v19
  • Full matching system based on the Moon's nakshatra of both individuals
  • Maximum points = 36; minimum acceptable = 18-20
  • Below 18 = problematic match; above 18-20 = acceptable; high scores = excellent
  • The table is organized by nakshatra groups/rashis
  • Key components in the 36-point system:
    1. Varna (caste/spiritual development level) = max 1 point
    2. Vashya (magnetic compatibility) = max 2 points
    3. Tara (nakshatra compatibility) = max 3 points
    4. Yoni (sexual/temperament compatibility) = max 4 points
    5. Graha Maitri (planetary friendship between Moon sign lords) = max 5 points
    6. Gana (temperament: Deva/Manushya/Rakshasa) = max 6 points
    7. Bhakoot (Moon sign relationship) = max 7 points
    8. Nadi (physical constitution compatibility) = max 8 points

How Gunamela Chakra is Organized

  • class:: v19
  • The table groups nakshatras by their ruling sign (rashi)
  • Each row represents one person's nakshatra; each column represents the other's
  • The intersection gives the compatibility score for that combination
  • Teacher's method: learn the table's organization to quickly find any combination

Nakshatra in Dasha Systems

  • class:: v17
  • Vimshottari Dasha = progression of Moon through the 27 nakshatras
  • Each planet rules a specific nakshatra sequence; the starting point = Moon's natal nakshatra
  • The quality of the Dasha period is colored by the nakshatra through which Moon progresses

Key Nakshatra Principles (General)

  • class:: v11, v13
  • Nakshatra of Lagna lord can indicate spiritual/dharmic quality
  • Nakshatra in which Atmakaraka falls can modify the Ishta Devata determination
  • Dirdasha: nakshatra-based calculations (via Progress Lagna) determine the nature of each sub-period

Muhurta and Nakshatras

  • class:: v11
  • Nakshatra is 3rd in Muhurta priority (after Tithi and Vara)
  • Panchanga components: Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana
  • For any election (Muhurta), avoid nakshatras that are Vadha (7th Tara) from the Moon of the event

v2 Batch 3 — Classes 21–30

Nakshatras — Batch 3 (v21–v30)

Note: Classes 21–30 did not extensively cover nakshatra-by-nakshatra teaching. The following entries capture nakshatra references that appeared in the context of chart analysis and BPHS discussion.

Nakshatra — Moola (#19)

  • Source: class-24, class-26
  • Lord: Ketu
  • Deity: Nirriti (goddess of destruction/dissolution)
  • Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Sagittarius
  • Quality: Gandanta nakshatra (junction with Scorpio's end = water-fire Gandanta); destructive beginning
  • Symbol: Bundle of roots tied together; elephant goad
  • Significations: Foundation work, digging to roots, radical transformation, destruction for renewal; health crises from foundational imbalance
  • Tips: Planets at the very beginning of Moola (0°-3°) are in Gandanta — require Shanti for the matters they signify. Mars at 2° Sagittarius (Moola, first navamsa) = severe health affliction, nerve/breathing issues. Lagna near Moola = challenging start to life, special karmic purpose.

Nakshatra — Krittika (#3)

  • Source: class-26 (Visakhapatnam native: "Cancer Lagna, Krittika fourth Padam")
  • Lord: Sun
  • Deity: Agni (fire god)
  • Span: 26°40' Aries – 10°00' Taurus
  • Quality: Kshatriya nakshatra; sharp, piercing; cuts through illusion
  • Symbol: Flame, razor, sharp blade
  • Significations: Fire, cooking, sharpness, purification through fire; nourishment through cutting away impurities
  • Tips: Krittika 4th pada = Taurus portion (10° Taurus approximately); Lagna in Krittika 4th pada with Cancer Lagna means approximately 2°-3° of Cancer rising. Sun as Nakshatra lord becomes significant for the native's personality.

Nakshatra — Hasta (#13)

  • Source: class-26, class-29
  • Lord: Moon
  • Deity: Savitar (the creative aspect of the Sun)
  • Span: 10°00' – 23°20' Virgo
  • Quality: Deva nakshatra; skilled, dexterous, healing
  • Symbol: Hand, fist
  • Significations: Skill, handiwork, dexterity, healing touch, manual precision; laughter, cleverness
  • Tips: Mercury in Hasta yoga = exceptional skill and precision in Mercurial work (accounting, mathematics, writing, communication). Hasta nakshatra is particularly favorable for professions requiring fine motor skill and attention to detail. CA exam success connected to Mercury in Hasta.

Nakshatra General Principles from Classes 21–30

Gandanta Nakshatras (class-24, class-26):

  • The last 3°20' of each water sign and first 3°20' of each fire sign = Gandanta zone
  • Nakshatras spanning these boundaries: Ashlesha (end of Cancer), Jyeshtha (end of Scorpio), Revati (end of Pisces), Ashwini (beginning of Aries), Magha (beginning of Leo), Moola (beginning of Sagittarius)
  • Planets or Lagna in Gandanta require: Gandanta Shanti puja; special remedies
  • Moon in Gandanta at birth = most severe (Gandanta Moon = major life challenges for mother or self)
  • Mars in Gandanta in Lagna = chronic nerve/health issues

64th Navamsa (class-26):

  • The 64th navamsa = 8th navamsa of the 8th sign from the Lagna
  • Any planet occupying the 64th navamsa has some maraka quality even if it is otherwise benefic
  • "64th navamsa lord gives some maleficence" — Mars in 64th navamsa for Visakhapatnam native
  • Must check this in conjunction with D6 and D30 for health analysis

Drekana (Decanate) Nakshatra Connections (class-26): Named Drekanas relevant to health and suffering:

  • Sarpa Drekana (Snake): Inauspicious; planets here have enhanced maleficence for physical harm
  • Pasha Drekana (Noose): Restriction and bondage; career or life constrained
  • Ayudha Drekana (Weapon): Physical hurt, injury, surgery
  • Krura Drekana (Cruel): Harsh outcomes; cruelty in the matters signified
  • Agni Drekana (Fire): Burns, fevers, inflammatory conditions
  • Auspicious Drekanas: Chatushpada (four-footed = domestic animals, stability), Shipha (tail = animal vitality), Bird Drekanas (freedom, communication)
  • Mishra = mixed results

Note for future extraction: Detailed nakshatra-by-nakshatra teaching was not a primary focus of classes 21–30. The BPHS chapters covered (10th, 11th, 12th house lords and 1st-3rd lord placements) do not include dedicated nakshatra analysis. Nakshatra-intensive teaching likely appears in earlier or later batches.

v2 Batch 4 — Classes 31–40

Nakshatras — Batch 4 (classes 31–40)

Nakshatra 31.1 — Tara Bala in Muhurta Selection

  • Source: class-34
  • Definition: Tara Bala (strength of the star) measures the compatibility between the nakshatra of a Muhurta and the birth nakshatra of the person for whom the Muhurta is chosen.
  • Method: Count from the person's birth nakshatra to the nakshatra of the Muhurta. The count position determines the Tara (star quality):
    • 1st (Janma) = birth — avoid for important events
    • 2nd (Sampat) = wealth — good
    • 3rd (Vipat) = danger — avoid
    • 4th (Kshema) = comfort — good
    • 5th (Pratyak) = obstacle — avoid
    • 6th (Sadhana) = achievement — good
    • 7th (Naidhana) = death — avoid
    • 8th (Mitra) = friend — good
    • 9th (Param Mitra) = great friend — best
    • Cycle repeats from 10th (= 1st again)
  • Role in Muhurta checklist: Tara Bala is the third item in PVR's eight-point Muhurta checklist (after Lagna Shuddhi and Saptama Shuddhi). A bad Tara can override otherwise good placements.
  • PVR note: "Tara Bala should be checked from the person's birth nakshatra. Janma (1st), Vipat (3rd), Pratyak (5th), Naidhana (7th) — these four are to be avoided."

Nakshatra 31.2 — Inauspicious Nakshatras for Muhurta

  • Source: class-34
  • List of nakshatras to avoid in Muhurta (especially for Upanayana, mantra diksha, and major life events):
    • Bharani (2nd nakshatra, ruled by Yama — death) — strongly inauspicious
    • Krittika (3rd nakshatra, first nakshatra of Taurus) — sharp, cutting, fire energy
    • Ashlesha (9th nakshatra, end of Cancer, serpent nakshatra) — deceptive, venomous
    • Jyeshtha (18th nakshatra, Scorpio, end cluster) — elder-harming, intense
    • Mula (19th nakshatra, Sagittarius start, destructive roots) — uprooting, destabilizing
    • (Other nakshatras like Vishakha and Shatabhisha mentioned in context)
  • Reason for avoidance: These nakshatras carry destructive, sharp, or death-related energies that are not suited for the beginning of auspicious endeavors.
  • Context: This list arises in the context of choosing Muhurta for Upanayana (sacred thread ceremony) and mantra initiation in class-34.

Nakshatra 31.3 — Auspicious Nakshatras for Important Events

  • Source: class-34
  • General guidance: Stable, soft, or benefic nakshatras are preferred for important life-event Muhurtas:
    • Rohini (4th nakshatra, Moon's own, most stable and beautiful) — excellent for all auspicious events
    • Hasta (13th nakshatra, skill, dexterity, Virgo) — good for learning and initiation
    • Pushya (8th nakshatra, Jupiter ruled, nourishment) — considered best nakshatra for most Muhurtas; "Pushya is the king of nakshatras for auspicious events"
    • Shravana (22nd nakshatra, learning, Moon ruled, Capricorn) — good for mantra initiation
    • Uttara nakshatras (Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada) — stable, completing energy
  • PVR note: When choosing Muhurta for mantra diksha or Upanayana, prioritize Pushya, Rohini, or Shravana nakshatras if possible.

Nakshatra 31.4 — Birth Nakshatra and Kala Amrita Yoga

  • Source: class-31
  • Teaching: In Asha's chart (polio case), the birth nakshatra placement is relevant to understanding the Rahu Dasha effects. Rahu's Dasha in a Kala Amrita Yoga chart amplifies everything because the nodal axis controls all planets.
  • Implication: The birth nakshatra (for Vimshottari Dasha calculation) identifies which planet's Dasha is operating. In Kala Amrita Yoga, the Dasha sequence is not altered but the Rahu/Ketu periods carry disproportionate weight because all planets are under the nodal axis.

Nakshatra 31.5 — Mrityu Bhaga (Death Degrees) in Muhurta

  • Source: class-34
  • Definition: Mrityu Bhaga are specific degrees within each zodiac sign that are considered inauspicious — the "death degree" of that sign. If the Lagna or an important planet in a Muhurta chart falls at the Mrityu Bhaga of its sign, the Muhurta is weakened.
  • Placement in checklist: Item 7 of the eight-point Muhurta checklist.
  • Rule: Check that the Muhurta Lagna degree is NOT the Mrityu Bhaga for that rising sign. Each sign has its own Mrityu Bhaga degree (specific tables exist for this).
  • Practical note: JHora can display Mrityu Bhaga for the Lagna. If the Muhurta Lagna is within 1° of the Mrityu Bhaga, reject that time slot.

Nakshatra 31.6 — Rikta Tithis — Avoid in Muhurta

  • Source: class-34
  • Definition: Rikta means "empty" or "void." Rikta tithis are the 4th, 9th, and 14th lunar days of each fortnight.
  • Effect: Events begun on Rikta tithis lack substance and staying power. The energy is empty.
  • Context: Item 4 in PVR's Muhurta checklist: "Avoid Rikta tithis (4, 9, 14) and Amavasya (new moon) for important beginnings."
  • Note on Amavasya: New moon (30th tithi / Amavasya) is also to be avoided in Muhurta because Sun and Moon are conjunct, creating Amavasya Yoga in the Muhurta chart.

Nakshatra 31.7 — Chandrabala — Moon Strength in Muhurta

  • Source: class-34
  • Definition: Chandrabala (Moon's strength) checks that the Moon in the Muhurta chart is well-placed, not in the 6th, 8th, or 12th from the native's natal Moon.
  • Method: Count from the person's natal Moon to the Muhurta Moon. Favorable positions: 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 from natal Moon (by some authorities); unfavorable: 8th and 12th.
  • Context: Item 8 in PVR's eight-point Muhurta checklist.
  • PVR emphasis: Chandrabala ensures the person's mind (Moon) is receptive and aligned with the event being initiated. "Moon is the mind — if Moon is in a bad position relative to your birth Moon, your mind is not in the right space for this event."

v2 Batch 5 — Classes 41–50

Nakshatras — Batch 5 (v2 Classes 41–50)

Classes 41–50 did not extensively teach nakshatra-specific content (the focus was on BPHS Chapter 24 house lord rules, divisional charts, and practical chart readings). The following are nakshatra references that appeared in context.

Nakshatra — Referenced as Vimshottari Starting Point

Source: v41–v50 (general) Lord: Varies by nakshatra (9 lords × 3 nakshatras each = 27 nakshatras) Deity: Varies Span: Each nakshatra spans 13°20' of the zodiac (360° ÷ 27 = 13°20') Quality: Used primarily in these classes as the basis for Vimshottari Dasha calculation — the nakshatra of the Moon at birth determines which planet's mahadasha the native is born into and what balance remains. Symbol: Varies by nakshatra Significations: Vimshottari Dasha lord sequence: Ketu (Ashvini/Magha/Mula), Venus (Bharani/Purva Phalguni/Purva Ashadha), Sun (Krittika/Uttara Phalguni/Uttara Ashadha), Moon (Rohini/Hasta/Shravana), Mars (Mrigashira/Chitra/Dhanishtha), Rahu (Ardra/Swati/Shatabhisha), Jupiter (Punarvasu/Vishakha/Purva Bhadrapada), Saturn (Pushya/Anuradha/Uttara Bhadrapada), Mercury (Ashlesha/Jyeshtha/Revati). Tips: In the context of these classes, nakshatras are used primarily for dasha balance calculation rather than symbolic/deity-based interpretation. Deeper nakshatra teaching appears in dedicated nakshatra classes.

Nakshatra — Gandanta Nakshatras

Source: v41 Lord: The junctions involve: Ashlesha (Mercury) → Magha (Ketu) junction; Jyeshtha (Mercury) → Mula (Ketu) junction; Revati (Mercury) → Ashvini (Ketu) junction. Deity: These junctions are considered spiritually vulnerable — the shift from Mercury (intellect/knowledge) to Ketu (dissolution/moksha) symbolizes the soul at a critical transition point. Span: The Gandanta zone spans approximately 3°20' on each side of the water sign–fire sign junction. Quality: Highly vulnerable, unstable, between states (like a person neither awake nor asleep). Symbol: The "knot" (ganda) that must be untied — a place of unresolved tension. Significations: Planets or lagna in Gandanta zones indicate extreme vulnerability in the natal chart. Gandanta lagna = severe suffering for the native. In mundane charts, Gandanta lagna = severe national suffering (North Korea's chart, v41). Tips: Always check if lagna or natal Moon falls in a Gandanta zone — it requires specific remedial attention (Gandanta dosha shanti puja).

Note: Deeper nakshatra content (all 27 with full deity, symbol, quality, and interpretive tips) is covered in dedicated nakshatra-focused classes not in this batch (v41–v50). This file will be expanded in batches that cover nakshatra-specific classes.

v2 Batch 6 — Classes 51–60

Nakshatras — Batch 6 (classes 51–60)

Nakshatra — General principle: dasha lordship vs. inherent rulership

  • Source: class-51
  • Lord: N/A — this is a meta-principle about all nakshatras
  • Deity: N/A
  • Span: N/A
  • Quality: N/A
  • Symbol: N/A
  • Significations: The assignment of planets as "lords" of nakshatras in the Vimshottari system is a dasha-mapping device only — it tells you which planet's dasha runs when the Moon is in a given nakshatra. It does NOT establish that planet as the inherent ruler, owner, or karaka of that nakshatra in the way a sign has a lord.
  • Tips: PVR clarified in class-51 that nakshatra "lordship" for dasha purposes was established by Parasara as a practical tool for Vimshottari calculation. Statements like "Ketu is the lord of Ashwini therefore Ketu signifies the themes of Ashwini" are a Kali Yuga corruption — not in Parasara or Jaimini. Do not conflate the dasha-sequence assignment with inherent planetary ownership of the nakshatra's symbolism.

Nakshatra — Ashwini (#1)

  • Source: class-51 (referenced in nakshatra lordship debate)
  • Lord: Ketu (Vimshottari dasha sequence only)
  • Deity: Ashwini Kumaras (divine physicians)
  • Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Aries
  • Quality: Chara (movable); Rajas-Tamas-Rajas
  • Symbol: Horse's head
  • Significations: Healing, speed, horses, vehicles, medicine, beginnings, pioneering energy; the divine physicians who restore health and vitality
  • Tips: The Ashwini Kumaras' healing nature comes from the deity, not from Ketu. Ketu's dasha-lordship does not mean Ketu rules Ashwini's healing symbolism. When Moon is in Ashwini, Ketu dasha runs — but the themes activated are Ashwini Kumara themes (healing, horses, beginnings), not purely Ketu themes.

Nakshatra — Arudra (#6)

  • Source: class-51 (referenced in nakshatra discussion context)
  • Lord: Rahu (Vimshottari dasha sequence only)
  • Deity: Rudra (Shiva in his fierce, storm aspect)
  • Span: 6°40' – 20°00' Gemini
  • Quality: Tikshna (sharp/dreadful); Tamas
  • Symbol: Teardrop, diamond
  • Significations: Storms, destruction leading to renewal, Rudra's fury, intense transformation, cutting away the old; also connected to speech (Gemini) and communication
  • Tips: Rahu's dasha-lordship for Arudra does not mean Rahu "rules" Arudra's symbolism. Arudra's themes are Rudra/Shiva themes. Rahu and Rudra share some destructive/transformative resonances — this may be why this assignment persists — but it is coincidental, not a principle.

Nakshatra — Pushya (#8)

  • Source: class-52 (referenced in homam/mantra context — Saturn's dasha nakshatra)
  • Lord: Saturn (Vimshottari dasha sequence only)
  • Deity: Brihaspati (Jupiter as priest of the gods)
  • Span: 3°20' – 16°40' Cancer
  • Quality: Laghu/Kshipra (light/swift); Tamas
  • Symbol: Cow's udder, lotus, circle, arrow
  • Significations: Nourishment, nurturing, food, spiritual sustenance, religious activities, milk, flowers; despite Saturn being dasha lord, Pushya's deity is Brihaspati — so the nakshatra's inherent themes are Jupiterian (nourishment, dharma), not Saturnine
  • Tips: This nakshatra illustrates the principle above clearly — Saturn is the Vimshottari dasha lord (when Moon is in Pushya, Saturn dasha runs) but Brihaspati (Jupiter) is the deity. If someone says "Pushya is ruled by Saturn therefore it has Saturnine qualities," that conflates dasha lordship with inherent symbolism.

Nakshatra — Magha (#10)

  • Source: class-51 (referenced in debate about Ketu-nakshatra association)
  • Lord: Ketu (Vimshottari dasha sequence only)
  • Deity: Pitrs (ancestors)
  • Span: 0°00' – 13°20' Leo
  • Quality: Ugra (fierce); Tamas
  • Symbol: Royal throne, royal court
  • Significations: Royalty, ancestral power, throne/authority, pride, Leo-based self-expression, connection to ancestors (Pitrs); the themes are ancestral/royal, not particularly Ketu-esque
  • Tips: Ketu dasha running when Moon is in Magha does not make Magha a "Ketu nakshatra" in the sense of inheriting Ketu's themes. The royal, ancestral themes come from the Pitr deity and the Leo placement, not from Ketu.

v2 Batch 7 — Classes 61–70

Nakshatras — Batch 7 (v61–v70)

Source: PVR Narasimha Rao, BPHS Chapter 33 Classes

Nakshatra — Bharani (#2)

  • Source: Class 70 (Srirama's chart analysis)
  • Lord: Venus
  • Deity: Yama (god of death and dharma)
  • Span: 13°20' – 26°40' Aries
  • Quality: Ugra (fierce/active)
  • Symbol: Yoni (female reproductive organ)
  • Significations: Bearing and carrying (Bharani = "one who bears"), creative power, dealing with life and death, transformation, Venus-ruled energies in Aries
  • Tips: Moon in Bharani = the Moon is in the domain of Venus (syamadera lord of Venus). In chart analysis from Class 70, Moon in Bharani means Venus is the relevant "Syamadera lord" (divine abode lord) for Moon, making Venus a significator of divine protection/blessings from past life. Red coral (Mars) was recommended partly because Mars rules the sign of Bharani's placement.

Nakshatra — Pushya (#8)

  • Source: Class 70 (Srirama's chart — gemstone discussion)
  • Lord: Saturn
  • Deity: Brihaspati (Jupiter)
  • Span: 3°20' – 16°40' Cancer
  • Quality: Laghu (light/swift)
  • Symbol: Cow's udder or arrow
  • Significations: Nourishment, nurturing, growth, expansion, most auspicious nakshatra for beginnings; associated with Jupiter energy
  • Tips: The gemstone for Pushya is yellow sapphire (Jupiter). In Class 70, Jupiter as Lagna lord in Rasi suggested Pushya (Jupiter's stone) would be beneficial, but since Jupiter is malefic in D6 and D30, the gemstone was not recommended. This is a key example of why Rasi chart alone is insufficient for gemstone selection.

Note: Nakshatras were referenced in passing in Batch 7 rather than systematically taught. The primary nakshatra content will appear in batches covering specific nakshatra chapters. The above entries capture the nakshatra references that appear in case analyses and technical discussions within v61–v70.

v2 Batch 8 — Classes 71–80

Nakshatras — Batch 8 (v71–v80)

Master sheet of nakshatra teachings from this batch. Note: this batch did not include a dedicated nakshatra lecture. Nakshatra references appear incidentally in muhurta and chart analysis contexts.

Nakshatra — Rohini (#4)

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta discussion, Nashua NH)
  • Lord: Moon
  • Deity: Brahma (creator)
  • Span: 10°00' – 23°20' Taurus
  • Quality: Fixed (Dhruva)
  • Symbol: A cart, chariot, temple
  • Significations: Fertility, beauty, material abundance, stability, creativity, sensuality
  • Tips:
    • The questioner in v71 had Rohini nakshatra (Janma nakshatra). The proposed Graha Pravesh muhurta had Moon in Revati — this was analyzed as "Sahasntara" (5th from Rohini in the tara sequence), which is an auspicious relationship.
    • When Moon is in the 11th house from Janma Rashi in a muhurta chart, it shows good results (Moon in Pisces for Vrishabha rashi person = 11th house = auspicious).
    • Rohini as Janma nakshatra: Moon-ruled; person may have strong attachment to beauty, security, stability.

Nakshatra — Dhanishtha (#23)

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta)
  • Lord: Mars
  • Deity: Ashta Vasus (eight Vasus)
  • Span: 23°20' Capricorn – 6°40' Aquarius
  • Quality: Movable (Chara)
  • Symbol: Drum, flute
  • Significations: Wealth, prosperity, generosity, music, surgery, martial arts
  • Tips:
    • In the January 7 muhurta attempt (before settling on January 11), Mars was at the end of Uttara Phalguni before the final decision. Moon was initially considered for this nakshatra.
    • Dhanishtha is a Mars-ruled nakshatra, so Mars being in Vargottama (as noted for this muhurta) added strength to the period.

Nakshatra — Revati (#27)

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta, Moon nakshatra at January 11 timing)
  • Lord: Mercury
  • Deity: Pushan (nourisher, protector of flocks)
  • Span: 16°40' – 30°00' Pisces
  • Quality: Soft/Gentle (Mridu)
  • Symbol: Fish, drum
  • Significations: Prosperity, nourishment, completion, protection of travelers, gentle completion of cycles
  • Tips:
    • In the January 11, 2011 Graha Pravesh muhurta for Nashua NH, Moon was in Revati. For the person with Rohini Janma nakshatra, Revati was Sahasntara (5th from Rohini): generally auspicious.
    • Moon in Revati = Moon in Pisces = with Jupiter (Gajakesari yoga in the muhurta chart). This strengthened the muhurta significantly.

Nakshatra — Uttara Phalguni (#12)

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta, Sun's nakshatra)
  • Lord: Sun
  • Deity: Aryaman (one of the Adityas, god of contracts and friendship)
  • Span: 26°40' Leo – 10°00' Virgo
  • Quality: Fixed (Sthira)
  • Symbol: Bed, back legs of cot
  • Significations: Contracts, friendship, social success, wealth from others, patronage, beneficence
  • Tips:
    • Sun was in Uttara Phalguni 4th pada on January 10, and moved into Vargottama position on January 11. Being in own nakshatra (Sun's own nakshatra = Uttara Phalguni) AND Vargottama added significant solar strength to the muhurta.
    • For the Rohini native, Sun is the lagna lord (Leo lagna). Sun being in Vargottama in his own nakshatra in the muhurta chart shows strong solar blessings for the Graha Pravesh.

Nakshatra — Mrigashira (#5) — Partial reference

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta, one participant's nakshatra)
  • Lord: Mars
  • Deity: Soma (Moon)
  • Span: 23°20' Taurus – 6°40' Gemini
  • Quality: Soft/Gentle (Mridu)
  • Symbol: Deer's head
  • Significations: Searching, seeking, wandering, intelligence, pleasant speech
  • Tips:
    • One participant had Mrigashira nakshatra. Since Rohini and Mrigashira are consecutive, for the muhurta Moon in Revati, the Tara count was Nahasntara (not as good as Sahasntara). Since both participants were Vrishabha Rashi, judging from the Rashi (Moon in 11th from Vrishabha) was more appropriate than from nakshatra.

Nakshatra — General teaching: Tara calculation for muhurta

  • Source: v71 (Graha Pravesh muhurta discussion)
  • Notes:
    • Tara (star distance) counting: count from Janma nakshatra to the muhurta Moon's nakshatra, divide by 9; the remainder gives the tara category (1=Janma, 2=Sampat, 3=Vipat, 4=Kshema, 5=Pratyari, 6=Sadhana, 7=Naidhana, 8=Mitra, 9=Atimitra). Odd taras 1, 3, 5, 7 are inauspicious; 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 are auspicious.
    • Sahasntara = 5th tara = Pratyari = inauspicious? But PVR called it auspicious. This may be an alternate counting method or context-dependent interpretation.
    • When Rashi position is favorable (Moon in 11th from Janma Rashi), Rashi analysis can override tara analysis in muhurta selection.

v2 Batch 9 — Classes 81–90

Nakshatras — Batch 9 (v2, classes 81–90)

Nakshatra — Ashlesha (#9)

Source: class-89 Lord: Mercury Deity: Sarpa (serpent gods / Nagas) Span: 16°40' – 30°00' Cancer Quality: Sharp (Tikshna), also classified under Sarpa (serpent) category Symbol: Coiled serpent, serpent's embrace Significations: Penetrating intelligence; ability to mesmerize or hypnotize; deep intuition; karmic entanglement; hidden suffering; poison (literal and metaphorical); the unconscious mind; kundalini energy Tips:

  • Moon in Ashlesha is especially problematic for mental/emotional development because: (a) it is the Sarpa Nakshatra ruled by Mercury, affecting mind-intellect interface; (b) Ashlesha occupies the final degrees of Cancer, which is also the Gandanta zone (Cancer-Leo junction); (c) Ashlesha Drekkana overlap adds a third layer of Sarpa energy.
  • The Gandanta portion of Ashlesha (approximately 28°20' – 30°00' Cancer) is double-afflicted: both Nakshatra Gandanta and Sign Gandanta.
  • Specific remedy for Moon in Ashlesha: Ashlesha Nakshatra mantra from the Navagraha Suktam, Sarpa Suktam, and abhishekam to a Naga idol.
  • Ketu in the 11th house can sometimes be in or near Ashlesha's range; check carefully whether the planet is in Ashlesha or another nakshatra based on exact longitude.

Nakshatra — Ardra (#6)

Source: class-81 Lord: Rahu Deity: Rudra (Shiva as the storm god, destroyer of evil) Span: 6°40' – 20°00' Gemini Quality: Sharp (Tikshna) / Fierce Symbol: Teardrop; a head; a gem Significations: Storms, destruction followed by renewal; intense effort; research; technology; disruption for the sake of transformation; grief that leads to growth Tips:

  • Ardra is the starting nakshatra for the special Vimshottari variant (Ardra-starting Vimshottari / Jamadagnya variant). When this dasha applies (Surya Hora + Krishna Paksha in the divisional chart's Lagna), the Dasha sequence starts from Rahu (6-year Rahu period as first dasha) instead of from the Moon's natal nakshatra lord.
  • Rahu ruling Ardra = Ardra starting dasha = Rahu's themes (disruption, foreign, technology, research) are the first phase of the dasha cycle.

Nakshatra — Krittika (#3)

Source: class-81 (mentioned in dasha selection context) Lord: Sun Deity: Agni (the fire god) Span: 26°40' Aries – 10°00' Taurus Quality: Sharp (Tikshna) Symbol: A razor, a flame, a sharp instrument Significations: Purification through fire; sharp cutting ability; nurturing (the Krittikas nursed Kartikeya); adoption; foster parents; military strength; courage; fame through effort Tips:

  • Mentioned in class-81 when students were confused about which nakshatra to select for the special Vimshottari variant. Krittika was incorrectly cited before the correct nakshatra (Ardra) was confirmed.
  • Krittika corresponds to Sun's period in the regular Vimshottari dasha structure. Starting from Krittika would give a Sun-first dasha, which is not the Ardra-starting variant.

Nakshatra — Punarvasu (#7)

Source: class-81 (mentioned in software setup context) Lord: Jupiter Deity: Aditi (mother of the gods, goddess of boundlessness) Span: 20°00' Gemini – 3°20' Cancer Quality: Movable (Chara) Symbol: A quiver of arrows; a house; the return of light Significations: Return, renewal, recovery; second chances; generosity; the eternal mother; resourcefulness; restoration after difficulty; Jupiter's positive expansive qualities Tips:

  • Mentioned in class-81 when one student suggested starting from Punarvasu in the dasha selection discussion. This was incorrect for the Ardra-starting variant — Ardra is the correct starting point.
  • Punarvasu's qualities of "return" make it interesting for Foreign travel/return predictions (Chaturthamsa analysis), though this was not specifically discussed in these classes.

v2 Batch 10 — Classes 91–100

Nakshatras — Batch 10 (v2, classes 91–99)

Nakshatra — Krittika (#3)

  • Source: class-99
  • Lord: Sun
  • Deity: Agni (fire god)
  • Span: 26°40' Aries – 10°00' Taurus
  • Quality: Sharp, fiery, cutting
  • Symbol: Razor / flame
  • Significations: Fire, transformation, sharp intellect, purity through burning away impurity, critical thinking, cooking
  • Tips: Moon in Krittika near the Amavasya (new Moon) = predominantly Vata dosha by PVR's dosha calculation (since Moon is waning toward zero, not full Kapha). Used in class-99 to determine the native's Vata predominance despite Kapha indicators elsewhere.

Nakshatra — Anuradha (#17)

  • Source: class-98
  • Lord: Saturn
  • Deity: Mitra (deity of friendship and contracts)
  • Span: 3°20' – 16°40' Scorpio
  • Quality: Soft, devoted, friendship-oriented
  • Symbol: Lotus / staff
  • Significations: Friendship, devotion, organizational ability, success away from birthplace, spiritual capacity, group work, loyalty
  • Tips: Moon in Anuradha 4th pada for Match 2 in class-98 (compatibility chart). Saturn as Anuradha lord; Scorpio's intensity combined with Anuradha's loyalty makes this a karmic, committed placement. Used in compatibility — Anuradha Moon person is deeply loyal but can be possessive.

Nakshatra — Purva Phalguni (#11)

  • Source: class-98
  • Lord: Venus
  • Deity: Bhaga (god of fortune, marital happiness)
  • Span: 13°20' – 26°40' Leo
  • Quality: Fiery, pleasure-seeking, creative
  • Symbol: Hammock / front legs of a couch
  • Significations: Pleasure, romance, beauty, luxury, creative arts, rest and enjoyment, marriage, sensuality, good fortune
  • Tips: Match 1 in class-98 has Moon in Purva Phalguni (Leo nakshatra, ruled by Venus). Venus lord of this nakshatra in Leo gives a person drawn to beauty and pleasure; strong Venus in the native's chart is favorable for this match.

Nakshatra — Pushtodaya nakshatras and rising signs

  • Source: class-91, class-99
  • Lord: N/A (category across multiple nakshatras)
  • Deity: Various
  • Span: Signs 1, 2, 4, 9, 10 (Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius, Capricorn) are back-rising (Pushtodaya)
  • Quality: Back-rising — the sign rises tail-first, so the sign's full strength manifests in the last portion of the dasha or period.
  • Symbol: N/A
  • Significations: Delayed results; best results come at the end of the dasha/transit through that sign. Important for Narayana Dasha three-part rule: Pushtodaya sign gives results in the last one-third.
  • Tips: Mnemonic: "1, 2, 4, 9, 10 — back-rising ten." All other signs (except dual-rising Pisces = Ubhayadaya) are Sisodaya (head-rising = give results at the beginning of the period).

Nakshatra — Sisodaya nakshatras and rising signs

  • Source: class-91, class-99
  • Lord: N/A (category)
  • Deity: Various
  • Span: Signs 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 (Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Aquarius, Pisces excluded from Pushtodaya) are head-rising
  • Quality: Head-rising — the sign rises head-first, so the sign's full strength manifests in the first portion of the dasha.
  • Symbol: N/A
  • Significations: Early results; best of a dasha/period comes at the beginning. Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Aquarius are Sisodaya. Used in class-99: Aquarius (11th sign) is Sisodaya, so Mars in Aquarius in D24 gives its results early (first third of D24 Aries Narayana Dasha).
  • Tips: Pisces is Ubhayadaya (both-rising) — gives results in the middle of the dasha.

Nakshatra — Ubhayadaya (dual-rising) — Pisces

  • Source: class-91, class-99
  • Lord: Jupiter
  • Deity: Pushan (nourisher)
  • Span: Pisces (both-rising sign)
  • Quality: Dual — rises both from head and tail simultaneously; results come in the middle of the dasha
  • Symbol: Two fish
  • Significations: Balance, spiritual depth, middle-path results; in Narayana Dasha, events from Pisces-ruled period manifest in the middle third.
  • Tips: Pisces as D24 Mahadasha: the education began at the tail end of Pisces dasha (middle period), confirming the Ubhayadaya principle.
