🌀 Identifying the Applicable Conditional Dasha
Parashara taught hundreds of dashas. Each conditional dasha applies only when a specific natal condition is met. When multiple conditional dashas apply, priority rules determine which governs.
🔍 Priority Rules
[!IMPORTANT] Rule 1 — Rarity wins. A dasha applicable to only 1/6 of humanity outranks one applicable to 1/2. Rule 2 — Longer dasha wins when two dashas are equally rare. Choose the one with the higher total years.
Example: Shodashottari (116 yrs) > Ashtottari (108 yrs) > Visaptati Sama (72 yrs) > Shashti Sama (60 yrs)
⏳ Dasha Application Walk-Through (Example Chart)
Chart data: Leo lagna, b. June 13 1949, 10:55 AM, Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu Paksha: Krishna Paksha | Birth: Daytime | Hora: Sun Hora (Sun in Leo, 6°, first half of odd sign)
| Dasha | Condition | Applies? | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visaptati Sama (72 yrs) | 7th lord in Lagna OR Lagna lord in 7th | ✅ Yes | Saturn (7th lord) is in Lagna |
| Shatrimsha Sama (36 yrs) | Daytime birth in Sun Hora OR nighttime in Moon Hora | ✅ Yes | Daytime + Sun Hora confirmed |
| Ashtottari (108 yrs) | Daytime Krishna Paksha + Rahu in kendra/kona from Lagna lord | ❌ No | Rahu condition not met |
| Dwadashottari (112 yrs) | Lagna in Venus Navamsha | ❌ No | Lagna in Gemini Navamsha (Mercury) |
| Chaturashiti Sama (84 yrs) | 10th lord in 10th house | ❌ No | Not the case |
| Shatabhisa | Lagna in Vargottama | ❌ No | Leo Rashi, Gemini Navamsha |
| Shodashottari (116 yrs) | Moon Hora, nighttime Shukla OR daytime Krishna | ❌ No | Opposite condition |
| Panchottari | Lagna in Cancer in both Rashi & Dwadashamsha | ❌ No | Not applicable |
Winner: Visaptati Sama Dasha — rarest applicable dasha, takes precedence over Shatrimsha Sama.
[!NOTE] Visaptati = 72. Sama = equal. All 8 planets get 9 years each (8 × 9 = 72). Unlike Vimshottari, no planet is favoured with a longer period.
📊 Conditional Dasha Reference Table
| Dasha | Years | Condition |

| Vimshottari | 120 | Universal (Moon-based) |
| Ashtottari | 108 | Daytime Krishna Paksha + Rahu in kendra/kona from Lagna lord |
| Shodashottari | 116 | Nighttime Shukla Paksha OR daytime Krishna in Moon Hora |
| Dwadashottari | 112 | Lagna in Venus Navamsha |
| Chaturashiti Sama | 84 | 10th lord in 10th house |
| Visaptati Sama | 72 | 7th lord in Lagna OR Lagna lord in 7th |

| Shatabhisa | — | Lagna in Vargottama |
| Panchottari | 100 | Lagna in Cancer in Rashi AND Dwadashamsha |
[!TIP] In jHora: go to Nakshatra Dashas tab → select the conditional dasha → read the bracketed condition. The software will show the applicable periods automatically once the correct dasha is selected.
🌀 What Visaptati Sama Dasha Shows
The dasha condition — 7th lord in Lagna or Lagna lord in 7th — reveals a person obsessed with desire, whose animated consciousness of longing is fused with their self-identity. This dasha tracks fulfilment of desires rather than general mind-state (which Vimshottari tracks).
Use Vimshottari for: marriage timing, children, mental events
Use Visaptati Sama for: pursuit and fulfilment of strong personal desires
🪐 Live Dasamsa Reading — Career Analysis
Chart subject: "Mani" (Seshan Subramanian), b. June 13 1949, Leo lagna Career question: "Palmists and astrologers told me I would be a businessman — is this true?"
🏠 Dasamsa Lagna Rectification
- Possible lagna: Virgo (Kanya) or Libra (Tula)
- Virgo changes if birth time is 2m 55s earlier; Libra changes if 9m 10s later
- Conclusion: Kanya (Virgo) more likely; Tula (Libra) not ruled out
⏳ Career Phases via Visaptati Sama Dasha
| Period | Dasha | Career | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1971–1985 | Jupiter → Venus | Stable job, cement co., mechanical engineer, procurement | Venus (Varuna amsha) in own house in Lagna of Dasamsa; micro-management, dealing with people |
| 1985–1993 | Saturn | Odd jobs, unemployment, USA relocation | Saturn (Yama amsha); just doing duty, no passion |
| 1993–2002 | Rahu | Computer network engineering, some stability | Rahu (Indra amsha), eleventh house; Vipreeta Raja Yoga (6th lord in 12th) |
| 2002–2011 | Sun | Current; twelfth lord debilitated in 2nd — debilitation of dussthana lord is auspicious | |
| 2011–2020 | Moon | Predicted new beginning, spiritual venture | Moon in Lagna, Ananta amsha, owns 11th, linked to A7 and A3 |
🌌 Dasamsa Amsha Rulers and Their Career Meaning
| Planet | Amsha | Career Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Venus | Varuna | Patience, perseverance, dealing with many people, procurement management, business-like approach in service |
| Saturn | Yama | Routine, doing duty without passion; just getting money |
| Rahu | Indra | Influence, power, leadership-type recognition; high-tech / technology |
| Moon | Ananta | Spirituality, nurturing, feeding people spiritually |
| Sun | Indra | Influence and power (but limited by 12th house ownership) |
🔍 Service vs. Business Verdict
[!IMPORTANT] This is a service chart, not a business chart.
Indicators:
- Thumb rule: More planets in 6th house than 7th house → service dominant
- 7th lord Jupiter is in Maranakara Sthana (3rd house) → 7th house extremely weak
- 6th lord Saturn is strong (in 2nd with Venus; Arthatrikona lords together)
- A6 (Arudha of 6th) is in 10th house — manifested service is very public and strong
- A7 is present but not dominant
The palmists/astrologers who predicted "businessman" may have been looking at Mercury (10th house, Rashi) — plausible indicator but not conclusive without Dasamsa corroboration.
🏠 D4 Chaturthamsa — Going Abroad (February 21, 1985)
Question: Why did he emigrate to USA in February 1985?
Houses for Foreign Travel
| Factor | Signification |
|---|---|
| 7th house | Faraway journeys, distant places |
| 9th house | Long-distance travel, foreign lands |
| 12th house | Displacement, leaving homeland |
| Baadhaka sthana | Obstruction / movement; for fixed signs = 9th house |
| Rahu | Primary karaka for going abroad |
| Watery signs ♋♏♓ | Specifically crossing oceans |
[!NOTE] Baadhaka Sthana by Lagna type:
- Movable signs → 11th house
- Fixed signs → 9th house
- Dual signs → 7th house
Leo (fixed sign): 9th house = Baadhaka sthana. Therefore 9th house is doubly important — both as travel house AND as obstruction point.
🌀 Dasha at Emigration
Vimshottari: Rahu Mahadasha, Venus Antardasha, Jupiter Pratyantar Dasha
| Layer | Planet | Why Qualified |
|---|---|---|
| Mahadasha | Rahu | Karaka for foreign travel; 7th lord (in D4); aspects 9th house by Graha Drishti |
| Antardasha | Venus | With 12th lord Moon → gives Moon's results (12th = displacement) |
| Pratyantar | Jupiter | In 9th house (Baadhaka sthana for Leo); 8th lord → instability of residence |
[!TIP] Pratyantar Dasha precision rule: The Pratyantar Dasha planet must be the perfect signifier of the event, since it governs only a few months. The Antardasha governs ~2 years, so it shows multiple themes. Focus on Pratyantar for exact timing.
🔮 Tithi Pravesh Chart — Annual Timing
The Tithi Pravesh (annual return) chart for June 1984 (the year covering February 1985) clearly showed the emigration:
flowchart TD
A["Hora Lord = Mercury
(ruler of the year)"] --> B["Mercury owns 9th & 12th
in natal Rashi chart"]
B --> C["Mercury placed in 7th house"]
C --> D["All three foreign-travel houses
7th · 9th · 12th connected in one planet"]
D --> E["Strong prediction: will travel abroad this year"]
E --> F["Venus Dasha in Tithi Pravesh
confirms timing to Dec–Mar window"]
[!IMPORTANT] Most of PVR's accurate predictions were made using Tithi Pravesh + Shashtiamsha Dasha, not standard Vimshottari alone. For near-term events (next 1–5 years), always check the annual chart first.
Charakaraka Note
Charakaraka (variable significators) change every year. Always look at the Charakaraka for the specific Tithi Pravesh year, not the natal chart. In the 1984 annual chart, Atmakaraka = Venus (in 7th house, a kendra → soul is comfortable → auspicious year).
📐 Sahamas — Special Sensitive Points
Sahamam (Arabic Parts / Lots): mathematically derived points in the zodiac that sensitise a chart to specific life areas. Found in jHora: Longitudes → pop-up menu → Sahamas.
[!NOTE] Natal Sahamas and Tithi Pravesh Sahamas are different. Always view Sahamas in the chart you are currently analysing.
| Sahamam | Meaning | Position in Example Chart |
|---|---|---|
| Jalapatana Sahamam | Crossing oceans | Leo (Baadhaka sthana); lord Sun is with Rahu (karaka for abroad) |
| Pardesha Sahamam | Going to a foreign land | Capricorn; lord Saturn conjunct Mars (7th lord), aspecting Mercury (9th/12th lord) |
| Vivaha Sahamam | Marriage | — |
| Putra Sahamam | Children | — |
| Punya Sahamam | Virtue/merit | — |
Confirmation logic: Jalapatana lord connects to Rahu (karaka); Pardesha lord Saturn bridges Mars (7th lord) and Mercury (9th/12th lord) → both Sahamas confirm ocean-crossing.
⚡ Planet Exchange Rule (Co-tenants)
When multiple planets occupy the same house, they exchange results in their dashas. The rule:
flowchart LR
A["List planets together
in ORDER of decreasing beneficence
Most benefic → Least benefic"] --> B["First ↔ Last exchange results"]
B --> C["Second ↔ Second-from-last exchange"]
C --> D["Middle planet gives own results
(if odd number)"]
Example (3 planets together: Venus, Sun, Saturn):
| Beneficence rank | Planet | Gives results of |
|---|---|---|
| 1st (most benefic) | Venus | Saturn |
| 2nd (middle) | Sun | Sun (own) |
| 3rd (least benefic) | Saturn | Venus |
Applied to the chart: In Rahu Mahadasha, the 2nd house holds Venus, Sun, Saturn together.
- Venus Antardasha → gives Saturn's results → layoffs (2000–2001)
- Saturn Antardasha → gives Venus's results → good career period (2001–2002)
🎯 Future Predictions — Sun & Moon Dasha
☀️ Sun Mahadasha (2002–2011)
- Sun owns 12th house; debilitated in 2nd → dussthana lord debilitated = blessing (weakens negative house)
- Sun in Indra amsha → some influence and recognition
- Dangerous Antardasha: Mars (7th lord from Sun = end of service; 8th lord from Lagna = sudden changes)
- Advice: avoid arguments, practise diplomacy during Mars Antardasha
- Good Antardasha: Mercury (Lagna lord + 10th lord in 10th → Mahapurusha Yoga; intelligence recognised)
- Overall: no major career crisis after Mars Antardasha passes
☽ Moon Mahadasha (2011–2020)
[!TIP] Moon is in Lagna (Dasamsa) — luminaries in Lagna bring public recognition. Moon = Ananta amsha → spiritual work.
- Moon owns 11th house (gains); owns A7 (manifestation of desires, partnerships)
- Moon placed in A3 (manifestation of initiative)
- Linked to Kama Trikona (3rd, 7th, 11th) — perfect for a desire-fulfilling venture
- Prediction: Spiritual / consciousness-expanding business; well-known for this work; plan from 2010 onwards, launch after July 2011
The native's own intuition aligned: "I want to help people expand their minds and make money doing it." Chart confirms this is the right path.
🪔 Remedies — Mantras for Career
1. Palana Devata (Career Sustenance / Food / Resources)
Method: Find Amatya Karaka (AMK) → look in Navamsha → count 6th from AMK → planet in that sign (or its lord if empty) → worship corresponding form of Shakti (Divine Mother).
For this chart: AMK = Moon (Sagittarius in Navamsha) → 6th from Sagittarius = Taurus → Mercury is there → Deity: Tripurasundari
| Planet | Shakti Form |
|---|---|
| Sun | Pingala / Matangi / Raja Rajeshwari |
| Moon | Parvati / Lalita |
| Mars | Chamundi / Bagalamukhi / Anjanadevi |
| Mercury | Tripurasundari |
| Jupiter | Tara Devi / Saraswati |
| Venus | Lakshmi |
| Saturn | Mahakali |
| Rahu | Durga / Chhinnamasta |
| Ketu | Dhumavati |
2. Jyotirlinga Mantra (Career Recognition / Success)
Method: Find 5th house lord in Dasamsa → worship corresponding Jyotirlinga.
For this chart: 5th house in Dasamsa = Capricorn → Lord = Saturn → Kaleshwara (Mahakal, Ujjain)
Mantra: Om Namah Shivaya Namo Kaleshwaraya
Recite 108 times, ideally every morning or at minimum every Saturday.
📊 Jyotirlinga by Planet (Dasamsa 5th Lord)
| Planet | Jyotirlinga | Location | Mantra |
|---|---|---|---|
| ☀️ Sun | Rameshvara | Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Rameshvaraya |
| ☽ Moon | Somanath | Gujarat | Om Namah Shivaya Namah Somanathaya |
| ♂ Mars | Bhimashankara | Draksharama (Andhra) | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Bhimashankaraya |
| ☿ Mercury | Mallikarjuna | Srisailam | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Mallikarjunaya |
| ♃ Jupiter | Vishweshwara | Kashi (Varanasi) | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Vishweshwaraya |

| 🐉 Rahu | Nageshwara | — | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Nageswaraya |
| 🐲 Ketu | Vaidyanatha | — | Om Namah Shivaya Namo Vaidyanathaya |
[!WARNING] Common mispronunciation: Mallikarjuna not "Mallikhārjuna" (no aspirated kha). Vaidyanatha not "Vaidyanādha" (use tha, not dha).

| ☽ Moon | 8th |
| ♂ Mars | 7th |
