🔔 Opening & Recap of Chapter 34
Chapter 34 BPHS (Yogakaraka), verse 8 onwards. Quick summary of the first seven verses (covered in Class 71):
| Houses | Lord Classification |
|---|---|
| 1, 5, 9 (Trikonas) | Always shubha (auspicious) regardless of natural quality |
| 1, 4, 7, 10 (Kendras) | Neutral for all planets |
| 3, 6, 11 (Trishadaya) | Always papa (malefic) regardless of natural quality |
| 2, 8, 12 | Contextual — depends on company (sahacharyam) and other house owned |
🌟 Verse 8 — Natural Benefic/Malefic Hierarchy
"Guru Śhukrau śhubhau proktau Chandro Madhyamo uchyate. Udasinno Budha khyātaḥ pāpā Ravyākhi Bhūmijāḥ."
Benefic Strength (Strongest → Weakest)
"Pūrṇendu Gnejya Śhukrāśca prabalā uttarottaram."
Venus > Jupiter > Mercury > Full Moon (waxing)
[!IMPORTANT] Venus is declared the most benefic planet by Parashara — higher than Jupiter.
Malefic Strength (Weakest → Strongest Malefic)
"Kṣīṇendu varkārki Bhūputrāḥ prabalāśca yathottaram."
Waning Moon < Sun < Saturn < Mars
Mars is the strongest natural malefic.
📉 Verses 9–10 — Kendra Dosha & Its Degree
"Kendrādipatyadoṣo yaḥ śhubhānāṁ kariṣyotoha saḥ. Candranaguru śhukrāṇāṁ prabalāścottarottaram."
The kendrādhipatya dosha — the loss of beneficence when a natural benefic owns a kendra — applies with varying intensity:
| Planet | Kendra Dosha Intensity |
|---|---|
| Moon | Least affected |
| Mercury | More affected |
| Jupiter | Even more affected |
| Venus | Most affected (highest fall) |
[!NOTE] The more benefic the planet, the greater its "fall" from owning a kendra. Venus, the most benefic, suffers the most from kendra lordship.
🔑 Verses 11–13 — Full Yogakaraka Definition
Standard texts say: a planet owning both a kendra and a trikona becomes yogakaraka. Parashara gives a more generous definition:
"Kendrakōṇapatī syātāṁ paraspara grahōpagau. Ekabhedōścitau vāpi… Pūrṇadrīṣṭye kṣitau vāpi mitho yogakarau tadā."
graph TD
A[Kendra Lord + Trikona Lord] --> B{How associated?}
B -->|Exchange of signs| C[Parivartana Raja Yoga]
B -->|Together in one of their own signs| D[Strongest Raja Yoga]
B -->|Together in any other sign| E[Raja Yoga — slightly weaker]
B -->|Full mutual aspect| F[Strong Raja Yoga]
B -->|Partial mutual aspect| G[Weaker Raja Yoga]
C & D & E & F & G --> H[Result: King or highly famous person]
"Yogeshmin jāyate bhūpo vikhyāto vā jano bhavet." — Born in such a combination, the person becomes a king or a particularly famous individual.
Additional rule:
"Koṇeṣatve yad aikasya kendre satvaṁ ca jāyate. Kendre koṇeṣu dvau vā sau viśeṣādyogakārakaḥ."
A planet becomes yogakaraka if:
- It owns both a kendra and a trikona, OR
- A kendra lord is placed in a trikona, OR
- A trikona lord is placed in a kendra
Parashara's definition = ownership or occupancy creates the kendra-trikona link.
⚠️ Verse 14 — Malefic Planet + Kendra: Conditions for Beneficence
"Kendreshatveṇa pāpānāṁ vyāproktā śhubhakāritā. Sā trikoṇādhipatye'pi na kendreshatvamātratāha."
A malefic planet owning a kendra becomes auspicious only if it also owns a trikona. Kendra ownership alone makes it neutral, not auspicious.
| Scenario | Result |
|---|---|
| Malefic owns kendra only | Neutral |
| Malefic owns kendra + trikona | Auspicious (yogakaraka) |
| Malefic owns trikona + 6th | Neutral (6th cancels trikona) |
| Benefic owns kendra + trikona | Auspicious (kendra doesn't cancel trikona) |
❌ Verse 15 — Raja Yoga Spoilers
"Kendra koṇādhipāveva pāpavathānādhipau yada. Tayau sambandhamātrēṇa na yogam labhate naraḥ."
If either the kendra lord or the trikona lord also owns a malefic house (3, 6, 11), their conjunction alone does not constitute a true Raja Yoga.
Example for Virgo Lagna:
- Jupiter owns 4th (kendra) + 7th (kendra) — no trikona ownership
- Saturn owns 5th (trikona) + 6th (malefic)
- Jupiter + Saturn together → NOT a Raja Yoga (Saturn is tainted by 6th ownership)
Counter-example for Virgo Lagna:
- Mercury owns Lagna (kendra) + 10th (kendra) — no malefic house
- Venus owns 2nd (neutral) + 9th (trikona)
- Mercury + Venus together → Valid Raja Yoga (neither owns malefic houses)
🌑 Verses 16–18 — Rahu & Ketu as Yogakarakas
"Yad bhaveshu yata vāpi. Yadyad bhava samagato tattathalani prabalou pratisetham tamograhou."
Tamograhou = the two dark (tamasic) planets = Rahu & Ketu. They do not reflect light; they are the absence of light.
How to Judge Rahu/Ketu
| Factor | Method |
|---|---|
| Who they are with | Adopt the agenda of the conjunct planet |
| Which house they occupy | Behave as if they are the lord of that house |
| Natural kendra/trikona ownership (Aquarius/Scorpio) | Used for other purposes, NOT for subha/papa classification |
"Yadi kendre trikoneva nivasetam tamograhau. Nathenanyatarena ajau drstou vā yogakarake."
If Rahu/Ketu are in a kendra or trikona and are conjoined or aspected by the lord of the other type (kendra lord if they are in trikona, or vice versa) → they become yogakaraka.
[!IMPORTANT] Rahu/Ketu are like "self-declared owners" — wherever they sit, they behave as the lord of that house. They own the place by occupation (kabza), not by birth. Treat them as the lord of their house for yoga analysis, but independently — the actual house lord's Dasha may differ greatly from Rahu/Ketu's Dasha results.
Example (Speaker's own chart — Virgo lagna):
- Rahu in 6th house with Moon (11th lord) → Rahu is a functional malefic
- Ketu in 12th house, no conjunction → Ketu is neutral
📊 Chart Reading 1 — Murali: Career Instability
Birth Data: October 21, 1966, 5:15 AM IST, Kothapudur, India Situation: MSc Agriculture → agricultural engineer → software → sales → jobless 5 years Current Dasha: Jupiter Mahadasha
Rasi Chart
| Factor | Observation |
|---|---|
| Lagna | Virgo, 20° |
| 10th lord Mercury | In 2nd house, afflicted by Ketu (within 4°) |
| Ketu's house | 3rd lord (6th from 10th) → career obstacles |
| 9th lord | In Lagna (debilitated) — blessing but weak |
| 10th house | Empty, no aspects of strength |
Root cause of instability: Ketu (3rd lord) afflicts Mercury (10th lord) within 4° — obstacles in career given by 6th-from-10th energy.
D-10 (Dashamsa) — Career Chart
Lagna: Scorpio
| Placement | Significance |
|---|---|
| Sun (10th lord) + Saturn (3rd/4th lord) | Less than 1° apart — worst-enemy combination in 12th house |
| Rahu in 12th house | Also with Sun-Saturn — three-way affliction on 10th lord |
| Venus + Mercury in 10th house | Raja Yoga in 10th — strong latent potential |
| Jupiter in 7th house | Yogakaraka (trikona lord in kendra) — currently Dasha lord |
Career Affliction Summary:
graph TD
A[Sun = 10th Lord] --> B[12th house — career in loss/giving]
A --> C[Within 1° of enemy Saturn]
A --> D[Rahu also in same sign]
B & C & D --> E[Severe career instability — unlikely to improve in conventional jobs]
F[Venus exalted in 10th] --> G[Raja Yoga with Mercury]
G --> H[Venus Mahadasha 2027–2047 = Peak Career Period]
Career Recommendations:
- Self-employment or consulting rather than regular employment
- Field: something combining Saturn (agriculture, hard work) + Venus (beauty, aesthetics, good taste)
- Suggested: landscaping, decorative plants, herbs, artistic/agricultural products
- Must involve interacting with people — 7th house strongly influences 10th
- Avoid: desk-based technical work, software engineering
[!TIP] Venus is in Aquarius (a Saturnine sign) in D-10 → career that merges Venus (beauty/aesthetics) with Saturn (agriculture/discipline) = landscaping, ornamental horticulture, or quality-focused agricultural products.
Timeline:
| Period | Assessment |
|---|---|
| Jupiter–Saturn Antardasha (past) | Saturn afflicted Sun → Depression, hospitalization |
| Jupiter–Mercury (coming) | Not particularly good |
| Jupiter–Venus | Better |
| Venus Mahadasha (Nov 2027–Nov 2047) | Real success and potential fame |
Key Remedy: Aditya Hridayam (3× daily) + Om Bhūr Sūrya Āditya Japa (Ashtakshara mantra of Sun by Manu)
[!IMPORTANT] Without propitiating Sun, neither Jupiter nor Venus can fix the chart — the 10th lord must be strengthened first. Sun in a friendly sign but in the 12th house of D-10 hampered by Saturn+Rahu.
D-30 (Trimsamsa) — Suffering Chart
- Jupiter: 3rd + 12th lord in 9th → malefic planet
- Moon-Saturn in same sign → depression proneness
- Saturn Antardasha: confirmed hospitalization for depression
- Mercury Antardasha: lighter period; Jupiter–Mercury ahead is manageable

Ayurvedic Prescription
[!WARNING] This patient is Pitta-Vata: hot AND dry. Avoid Pitta-increasing substances. The knee problem is predominantly Vata (Saturn Dasha) with Pitta overlay.
Foods to Avoid:
- Red chili (strongly Pitta-aggravating)
- Mustard seed
- Pepper, cloves
- Mango pickle (avakaya — triple Pitta: mango + mustard + red chili)
Foods to Include:
- Dhania (coriander seeds/greens)
- Jeera (cumin)
- Saunf (fennel seeds)
- Buttermilk with chopped cilantro after every meal
Herbal Remedies:
| Remedy | Purpose | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Yogaraj Guggulu | Removes Vata from neuromuscular system | Internal medicine |
| Fennel + licorice (Yashtimadhu) tea | Anti-inflammatory, soothing for Pitta-Vata | Boil, steep 1 hr, add pinch turmeric |
| Mahanarayan Taila (infused) | External joint care | Heat oil with licorice + ashwagandha + fennel; infuse 1 week; massage knees |
Yashtimadhu = licorice = Jeshtimadhu/Jesmad: neutral temperature (neither hot nor cold), deeply moistening → ideal for hot+dry condition.

Dasha Prognosis:
| Antardasha | Assessment |
|---|---|
| Venus Antardasha (2006–2009) | Very bad — 10th lord in 6th |
| Saturn Antardasha | Bad — 6th lord in 6th |
| Moon Antardasha (current) | 12th lord — no relief yet |
| Mars (upcoming) | Some improvement possible |
Problem will persist but not worsen dramatically in remaining Antardashas.
Spiritual Remedies:
- Atharvaveda Shani mantra: Om śhano devir abhiṣṭaya āpo bhavantu pīritaye śhāmyorā abhisravantunah
- Shani Ashtottara Shatnam or Shani Shodashanam Stotram
- Hanuman Chalisa (since Saturn is in a Martian sign in D-30)

- Both in 9th from Atmakaraka (Dharmadevatas)
- Moon+Mercury → Lalita, Parvati, Uma, or Vishnu/Krishna/Saraswati
[!TIP] She is on the right path with Sri Vidya Upasana (Lalita). Augmenting with Vishnu Sahasranamam is optional but beneficial. No need to change to Ugra forms of the Divine.
Dasha Outlook
Current Rashi Dasha (Dhruba): Libra (2010–2017)
- Libra is the 9th house in D-20
- Progress 1st house from Libra = Aquarius (the D-20 Lagna)
- Lagna lord Saturn + many planets in 12th from progress lagna → detachment, deep experiences
[!IMPORTANT] 2010–2017 is the peak spiritual period for this native. Intense sadhana during this window will yield deep results.
