🕉️ Class 38 — Transits from Multiple References, Arudha Lagna Rules & Settling Abroad
Transit analysis deepens when the natal reference shifts: Moon, Arudha Lagna, Mars, Jupiter — each reveals a different "screen" on which planetary movements project their results. This class covers live application on Bill Gates' chart (career/Dasamsa), Kiran's chart (foreign settlement/green card), plus key doctrine on Arudha Lagna interpretations, the three Viparita yogas (Harsha, Saada, Vimala), and the Prastara Ashtakavarga.

🌸 Opening — Sri Rama Navami & Announcements
This class falls on Chaitra Shukla Navami — Sri Rama's birthday (Sri Rama Navami). The opening chant includes the Amrita mantra:
Sri Rama Rama Rama
"If you say Sri Rama Rama Rama, you get the result of saying Vishnu Sahasra Nama a thousand times." — Phalashruti of Vishnu Sahasra Nama
Announcement: Monthly Satyanarayana Vratam on the coming Saturday (Purnima), starting ~7:30 PM. Contact pvr@satya.net to register.
📊 Ashtakavarga — House-Based vs. Sign-Based Scoring
The Standard (Sign-Based) Approach
Most astrologers add scores in a particular rashi (sign) across all eight ashtavargas to determine the strength of a bhava. E.g., for Gemini lagna, they sum all scores in Gemini across Sun, Moon, Mars... etc. ashtavargas.
Teacher's Refined (House-Based) Approach
[!IMPORTANT] The sign occupying a house differs for each reference point. First house from lagna is Gemini. First house from Sun (in Libra) is Libra. First house from Moon (in Pisces) is Pisces. The strength of the first bhava should aggregate all eight "first house" scores, one from each reference.
How to enable in JHora: Alt + P + C + V (available from version 7.0.2+). Toggle on/off to compare both methods.
[!NOTE] This is the teacher's own research finding, not from a traditional parampara. But it is found to be empirically reliable and is now in the public release of JHora.
Bill Gates' Sarvashtakavarga (House-Based)
| Houses | Scores | Average |
|---|---|---|
| 6 + 8 + 12 | 22 + 29 + 27 = 78 | 26 |
| 9 + 10 + 11 | 31 + 34 + 37 = 102 | 34 |
The 9–10–11 scores form an arithmetic progression (+3 each); average = middle value = 34. This confirms the exceptional 9-10-11 pattern expected in a highly successful person.
🌍 Transit Analysis — Core Methodology Recap
Natal vs. Gochara
Always distinguish:
- Natal (Janma) chart = inherent potential for the entire life; not what happens at a specific time
- Transit (Gochara) chart = current planetary positions; how they activate or suppress natal potentials
"Natal chart shows the inherent potentiality. Transits will let some of that potential blossom, and suppress some of it." — Teacher
Reference Points for Transit Reading
| Reference | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| ☽ Natal Moon (Rashi) | Overall mental state — primary reference |
| 🏠 Natal Lagna | Physical health and existence |
| ☽ Natal Moon in Dasamsa | Mind as applied to career/professional world |
| ☽ Natal Moon in Navamsa | Mind as applied to marriage/dharma |
| ☽ Natal Moon in D-24 | Mind as applied to learning/knowledge |
| ♂ Natal Mars | Initiative, fire, drive in the relevant domain |
| ♃ Natal Jupiter | Wisdom and dharmic guidance |
| Arudha Lagna | World's image of you (different rules apply) |
[!TIP] For transit analysis, always keep transit positions in Rashi (outer chart). Only the natal reference (inner chart) can be changed to a divisional chart to focus on a particular domain.
🔮 Case Study — Bill Gates' Chart (Transit & Dasamsa)
Birth Data: October 28, 1955, 9:21:30 PM, 122°20′W, 47°36′N (Pacific Time, UTC-8)
Transit from Natal Rashi Moon (Mental State)
| Planet | Current Transit Position | House from Moon | Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|
| ♄ Saturn | Gemini | 4th (Adhyastama Sani — "half-eighth") | Bad: Sukha Lopa — no peace of mind |
| ♃ Jupiter | Virgo | 7th | Good: wealth and gains (Jupiter = 2nd + 11th lord) |
| ♂ Mars | Capricorn | 11th | Good (temporarily) |
| ♂ Mars (upcoming) | Aquarius | 12th | Bad: some losses of initiative |
[!NOTE] Adhyastama Sani = Saturn transiting in the 4th house from Moon (literally "half of Ashtama"). Result: loss of peace and happiness (sukha lopa). Known context: Microsoft's legal battles at this time.
Transit from Natal Dasamsa Moon (Career)
Moon in Dasamsa is in Pisces. Same Saturn in Gemini = 4th from Dasamsa Moon:
- Confirms the sukha lopa is specifically career-related (not just general mental unease)
- Saturn's Ashtakavarga score in Gemini = 0 → a score of zero means catastrophic transit in that domain
Transit from Natal Dasamsa Mars (Professional Initiative)
Mars is the Yoga Karaka for this chart (owns a trine and a quadrant in Dasamsa). Both Saturn and Jupiter are currently unfavorable from Dasamsa Mars.
"The fire, the drive, the initiative within Bill Gates as far as Microsoft is concerned, will be subdued." — Teacher
But from Navamsa Mars (dharmic initiative), Saturn is favorable — meaning his philanthropic work (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) is thriving during the same period.
Bill Gates' Vimshottari Dasha — Sun Mahadasa
| Factor | Detail | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Sun in Dasamsa | 12th house, 7th lord | Maraka sthana for 7th lord → possible compromise or partial giving up of control in business |
| Sun in Rashi | 9th house (natural dharma karaka) | Very active in dharmic charitable work |
| Sun from A9 | 3rd house | Favorable for manifesting dharma |
| Sun from AL | 7th house | Seen as fighting powerful opponents (governments, regulators) — world sees him opposing powerful forces on dharmic/legal grounds |
| Sun from AL | 10th house | World perceives him as a person exercising power and influence |
| Atri (A3) | Sun in A3 | Starting new ventures; new products or foundations |
🪐 Arudha Lagna — Rules for Interpreting Houses
[!IMPORTANT] Arudha Lagna is the world of images (maya). Rules for interpreting houses from Arudha Lagna differ fundamentally from Lagna rules. At the Arudha level, there is no collaboration — only competition and self-serving images.
7th House from Arudha Lagna — Competition
The 7th from Arudha Lagna = who you appear to the world to be competing with.
| Planet in 7th from AL | Image |
|---|---|
| ♄ Saturn | You appear to fight helpless, lowly, mean opponents — you look like an easy winner |
| 🐉 Rahu | You appear to fight deceitful, shadowy opponents — you look like an easy winner |
| ♃ Jupiter | You appear to fight wise, capable opponents — mixed; you can't easily win |
| ♂ Mars | You appear to fight bold warriors — you will likely lose or at best draw |
| ♄ Saturn debilitated | You appear to fight helpless idiots — even better; but may look fake |
"If Saturn and Rahu are in the 7th from AL, when you win a cricket match, people may say, 'Oh, this is such a fake.' That is also possible." — Teacher
Bill Gates has Sun in the 7th from AL → appears to be fighting powerful, authoritative government forces. In Sun Dasha, this becomes especially pronounced.
10th House from Arudha Lagna — Perceived Karma
The 10th from AL = karma the world perceives you to be doing (as distinct from the actual karma within, shown by 10th from Lagna).
| Planet in 10th from AL | World's Perception |
|---|---|
| ☀️ Sun | Powerful person exercising influence, politicking |
| ☽ Moon | Peacekeeping, maintaining harmony |
| ♂ Mars | Aggressively fighting or posturing |
| ♃ Jupiter | Wise, saintly karma — bad image for worldly professions (teacher lecturing soldiers) |
[!NOTE] Jupiter in 10th from AL can be a mismatch: saintly behavior perceived as out-of-place in a worldly role.
📐 Tenth House Comparisons — Lagna vs. Arudha Lagna vs. AL
| Factor | What It Represents |
|---|---|
| 10th from Lagna | True karma — intangible, within you; what you are actually doing in the universe |
| 10th from Arudha Lagna | Perceived karma — what the world thinks you are doing (also intangible, but in people's minds) |
| Arudha Lagna (AL) itself | Tangible manifestation — where you work, your title, concrete visible karma (e.g., "Senior Engineer at IBM") |

🔭 Prastara Ashtakavarga — Identifying Cooperating Planets
Bhinn Ashtakavarga gives the aggregate score (0–8) per house per planet. Prastara Ashtakavarga (PAV) breaks that down to show which specific planets are contributing a favorable vote in each house.
How to Access in JHora
Click "Show PAV of Sun", "Show PAV of Moon" etc. within the Ashtakavarga panel. This shows, for each house, the list of planets casting favorable votes from that reference.
Use case: When Saturn is transiting a house where no planets cast favorable votes from Mars (your reference), that Saturn transit is unfavorable from the Mars perspective.
🌐 Case Study — Kiran's Chart (Foreign Settlement / Green Card)
Birth Data: May 21, 1974, 3:58 PM IST, Bangalore (77°35′E, 12°59′N)
Applicable Dasha: Saptamsa Dasha (Lagna is Vargottama in natal Rashi = lagna in same sign in Navamsa).
Key Factors for Foreign Settlement
| Factor | Significance |
|---|---|
| Badhakastha lord | Can drive person away from homeland |
| 9th lord | Fortune, bhagya — important for permanent residency |
| 12th house/lord | Foreign lands, far-away places |
| 🐉 Rahu | Natural karaka for going abroad, crossing oceans |
| Watery signs | Classics connect water to ocean crossings |
| Jalapatana Sahama | Arabic lot for ocean travel |
| Pardesha Sahama | Arabic lot for going to a faraway place |
| A9 (Bhagya Pada) | Tangible manifestation of fortune — includes green card |
[!NOTE] A4 shows the physical house you live in. A8 (Mrityu Pada) shows tangible changes/instability. For green card specifically, use A9 (Bhagya Pada) — permanent residency in a first-world country is perceived by others as a great fortune (bhagya), making it a tangible A9 manifestation.

Annual Chart for 2000 (D4 Solar Return)
Hora lord (ruler of the year) = Moon:
- In Rashi: Moon in 12th house → displacement, faraway land
- In D4: Moon = 8th lord in 9th house → instability in pursuit of fortune
Sahamas in annual chart:
- Pardesha Sahama in Aries → Saturn (9th lord) + Jupiter (Badhakesa) both in Aries → direct link between foreign-travel lots and key lords → confirmation of foreign travel that year
Dasha at the time: Rahu Dasha, Rahu Antardasa → Rahu as Karka + 9th lord → went abroad
Green Card — 2005 Annual Chart (D4 Solar Return starting June 6, 2005)
Key configurations in 2005 annual D4 chart:
- Hora lord Jupiter in 12th house with Ketu → foreign land indicator
- Rahu in 12th (foreign land) with Graha Drishti on 9th
- Lagna lord Venus in 9th (debilitated but in fortune house) → Yoga Karaka for Makara lagna → auspicious
"Hora lord Jupiter is the owner of the twelfth house (foreign land) in this chart. Rahu is the karaka for going abroad, sitting in the twelfth house. Lagna lord is in the ninth house. All these things together show that this is the year he will get his green card." — Teacher
Prediction: Either Rahu or Venus antardasa will deliver the green card — likely before September of the year. Venus is in Mercury's sign (Virgo); Mercury's sign connection to the word "green" noted humorously.
⚡ Harsha, Saada, Vimala — Viparita Yogas
Three "Viparita" (reversal) yogas formed when a dusthana lord (6th, 8th, or 12th) occupies its own house:
| Yoga | Formation | Name Meaning | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harsha 😊 | 6th lord in 6th house | Harsha = Cheerful/Happy | Easily overcomes obstacles; happy-go-lucky; no anxiety; very optimistic and cheerful |
| Saada ➡️ | 8th lord in 8th house | Saada = Straight/Direct | Very matter-of-fact, blunt, honest, forceful — "calls a spade a spade"; unemotional |
| Vimala 🌟 | 12th lord in 12th house | Vimala = Pure/Unblemished | Great givers, pure-hearted, generous; sharing/liberation energy |
[!NOTE] The result of these yogas is modified by the nature of the planet. Jupiter in Harsha yoga → joyful, wise, unbothered. Mars in Harsha yoga → "fire in the cheer" — still optimistic but more aggressive.
In Kiran's 2005 annual Dasamsa chart: Sun is the 8th lord in the 8th house (Leo) → Saada yoga. Sun in Leo (Yama Saada) = Impassionate, dharmic straightforwardness with authority. Person says "That is wrong" — not "I think it might be wrong."
