📖 BPHS Ch.29 Verse 29 — Mercury or Venus in 2nd from Arudha Lagna {#verse-29}

Sanskrit: "Aarudhaat Vittabhe Saumye Sarvadeshaadhipo Bhavet. Sarvajño Yadi Va Sasyaat Kavir Vaadi Cha Bhargave."

Condition Planet Result
Saumya (Mercury) in 2nd from AL Mercury Sarvadeshaadhipo — ruler over the entire country/kingdom; great status. Also Sarvajña — one who knows everything; great knowledge
Venus (Bhargava) in 2nd from AL Venus Kavir Vaadi — an excellent poet (Kavi) or a great debater/orator (Vaadi)

[!NOTE] Since Venus is specifically named in the final line, Saumya in the first line refers to Mercury alone, not generic benefics. Mercury gives both status (ruler) and knowledge (omniscient). Venus gives mastery of eloquent expression — poetry or debate.

💑 Verse 30 — Darapada (A7) in Kendra/Kona from AL {#verse-30}

Sanskrit: "Aarudhaat Kendrakonesshu Sthite Dārapade Dvija... Sabalagraha Samyute..."

Two conditions are given (both lead to the same positive result):

  1. Darapada (A7 — Arudha Pada of the 7th house) is placed in a Kendra (quadrant: 1/4/7/10) or Kona (trine: 5/9) from Arudha Lagna
  2. Darapada is occupied by a strong planet (Sabalagraha — exalted, in Moolatrikona, or in a friendly sign)

Result: The native will be wealthy, prosperous, and famous in a wide area (fame beyond just local/family circle).

Why A7 in Kendra/Kona from AL → Fame?

  • A7 = the Arudha Pada of the 7th house = the tangible representation of your interactions with the world
  • Quadrants and trines from AL are positions that enhance the overall status (AL)
  • A7 in these positions means your interactions with the world increase your status — people are eager to meet you, like a Sachin Tendulkar or a Bill Gates
  • Conversely, A7 in 6th/8th/12th from AL means interactions lower the perceived status

📉 Verse 31 — Darapada in Dusthana from AL → Limited Wealth {#verse-31}

Condition: Darapada in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house from Arudha Lagna.

Result: Adhanah — the person will not be particularly wealthy; limited financial means.

[!NOTE] This is a tendency, not an absolute. If A7 is in the 6th from AL, the person's interactions with the world may be characterized by fighting/adversarial dealings — they may be seen as a fighter/warrior. This can have other expressions beyond just poverty.

💪 Verse 32 — Strong Planet in Pada or 7th from It {#verse-32}

Condition: A planet with strength (Suvirya) placed in:

  • The Pada itself (1st from Pada)
  • The 7th house from Pada
  • A trine (Trikona)
  • A kendra
  • The 3rd or 11th house (Upajaya/growth houses) from Pada

Result: Bharya bharta sukhapada — happiness from spouse; good marital happiness.

[!NOTE] This is a secondary indication for marriage happiness from the Arudha Lagna. The next chapter (Chapter 30) covers Upada Lagna — the specific Arudha for marriage — which gives primary marriage indications. This verse is the Rashi-level seed.

🤝 Verse 33 — Darapada in Kendra/Kona from AL → Mutual Friendship {#verse-33}

Sanskrit: "Padadara padhe chaivam kendre koneja sansthite. Dvayo maitri bhavennunam trike vairam na samsayah."

A7 Placement (from AL) Result
Kendra (1/4/7/10) or Kona (5/9) from AL Dvayo maitrimutual friendship between native and spouse
6th, 8th, or 12th from AL Vairamenmity between native and spouse (no doubt about this)

[!IMPORTANT] This verse confirms: A7 in kendra/kona from AL = the marriage will be harmonious and friendly. A7 in dusthana from AL = the marriage will be adversarial. This is a primary compatibility indicator from the Arudha Pada perspective, applicable before even looking at Upada.

🌐 Verse 34 — General Rule: All Arudha Padas from Arudha Lagna {#verse-34}

Sanskrit: "...evam lagna pada. Like this from the Lagna pada..."

Universal principle: Whatever has been said about Darapada (A7) applies to all Arudha Padas:

If ANY Arudha Pada (A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A11, A12, UL) is placed in:
  → Kendra or Kona from AL: that area of life will FLOURISH
  → Dusthana (6/8/12) from AL: that area of life will SUFFER

The Arudha of any house represents the tangible reality of that house.
AL is the central reference — all other Arudhas orbit it.

[!IMPORTANT] This overturns the common SJC teaching that "AL shows the native, Upada shows the wife — if Upada is in 12th from AL, wife will be neglected." Parashara's actual teaching is: if Upada is in a good house from AL, marriage flourishes; in a dusthana, marriage suffers. The relationship is mutual flourishing, not "who ignores whom."

👑 Verse 35 — Darapada Placement from Lagna → King {#verse-35}

Sanskrit: "Lagna dára padhe vipra mithah kendra gate yadi. Tri lábhayo trikoṇeva tathá rújadhárádhipah."

Condition: Darapada (A7) placed from Arudha Lagna in:

  • Kendras (1/4/7/10)
  • Trines (5/9)
  • 3rd or 11th houses

Result: Rújadhárádhipah — the native will be a king who rules the earth.

[!NOTE] This covers 8 of 12 houses (probability ~67%). Thus it is not a literal prediction that 2/3 of all people will be kings. Rather, it is a graded positive statement: if A7 is NOT in dusthanas from AL, the person is likely to have good status and prosperity. The "king" result should be understood as excellent social standing, not literally royalty in the modern era.

Questions asked:

  1. Why is Jupiter Mahadasha (with Vargottama Atmakaraka) not giving recognition?
  2. What is her Ishta Devata? (Has Ketu in 12th from AK in Navamsa — was pointed to Ganesha; current practice is meditation)
  3. Why was first child a girl instead of a boy (as suggested by Saptamsa)?
  4. Is there a possibility for a third child (and is it a boy)?
  5. What spiritual practices are recommended?

🔭 Rasi Chart Analysis & Partial Rectification {#rectification}

Rasi Chart Lagna: Scorpio (10°53')

Key placements:

  • Moon: 24°54' Capricorn (3rd house)
  • Rahu: 5°41' Scorpio (12th house by house cusps)
  • Venus: 26°45' Capricorn (3rd house) — 7th lord AND 12th lord
  • Mars: 9th lord in Scorpio chart

Rectification attempt:

Time Navamsa Lagna Dasamsa Lagna Notes
4:45 PM (given) Original Libra ~18°50' Dasamsa Lagna below Mercury's longitude → Mercury in 11th
4:41 PM (−4 min) Potentially Vargottama → Jupiter becomes 7th lord in Navamsa Libra ~9°38' Mercury in 11th still
4:44–4:45 PM Lagna above Mercury's longitude in D10 Libra ~18°50' Mercury in 10th → software career fits better

[!NOTE] Four minutes back makes Jupiter the 7th lord in Navamsa, helping explain marriage in Jupiter Dasha. But the Dasamsa works better near the original time (Mercury lands in 10th house). A precise rectification requires narrowing based on further events. The chart broadly validates across most events with the original time.

Marriage occurred in: Jupiter Mahadasha, Jupiter Antardasha (Guru-Guru)

Why Jupiter gave marriage (multiple references):

Reference Jupiter's Role
From Venus Lagna Venus is exalted; Jupiter = Lagna lord in Lagna; aspects 7th house AND 7th lord Mercury
From Moon Lagna Moon in Leo; Jupiter is in 7th house from Moon (Pisces) in Navamsa
Viparita Raja Yoga Jupiter is 6th lord in 6th house (harsh yoga); Venus is Lagna lord with the 8th lord — Viparita yoga active

[!TIP] When Rasi Lagna doesn't cleanly explain an event, always check Venus Lagna and Moon Lagna for marriage. Parashara explicitly taught this multi-reference approach.

Tithi Pravesh (Annual Chart) for 2000/2001:

  • Ruler of year: Mars (Hora lord)
  • Venus Dasha in Dvisaptamsa chart gave marriage
  • Venus is Karaka of marriage + 7th lord + dispositor of 7th lord; placed in 1st house (with 4-minute time correction) = excellent candidate

🌍 Foreign Travel — April 1995 {#foreign-travel}

Dasha: Rahu Mahadasha, Venus Antardasha

Planet Why it gave foreign residence
Rahu Natural karaka for foreign travel; placed in 12th house (Scorpio rising)
Venus In 9th house (Pisces/watery); 7th lord AND 12th lord in 9th; receives aspect from Moon (9th lord) within 2°

Sahamas confirming:

  • Jalapatana Sahamam (sea voyages): 27° Scorpio — in 9th house owned by Mars
  • Paradesa Sahamam (foreign lands): 7° Gemini — Mercury (7th/Badhaka lord) very close to it

Chaturthamsa (D4): Rahu in 10th (karaka); Venus (9th lord) in 3rd aspecting 9th → displacement confirmed.

💼 Dasamsa — Software Career {#dasamsa-career}

Lagna (D10): Libra ~18°50' (using 4:44–4:45 PM time)

Key D10 planets:

  • Mercury: In Yama Amsha, placed in 10th house (above Lagna's longitude — just crosses the cusp)
  • Jupiter: In 10th house (6th lord — functional malefic for Libra Lagna)
  • Moon (10th lord): In Agni Amsha, 8th house

Career fit:

  • Mercury in Yama Amsha → systematic, methodical work; association with testing/quality (Yama = disciplined rectification)
  • Mercury in 10th = dealing with computers, software, communication
  • 6th lord (Jupiter) with Mercury in 10th → quality control / defect detection → software testing
  • Career was primarily active during Jupiter Dasha (1999 onward)

[!NOTE] If time is taken as 4:41 PM (−4 min), Mercury moves to 11th house; career explanation weakens. The 4:44–4:45 PM time range keeps Mercury in 10th and better explains a software career.

👶 Saptamsa — Child Gender Analysis {#saptamsa-children}

D7 Lagna: Cancer ~16°11'

General rule for child gender:

  • Odd signs show boys; even signs show girls
  • Exception: Aquarius, Pisces, Gemini, Cancer are reversed (even-numbered but show girls, or vice versa)
  • Ketu present: count backwards from the relevant sign

First Child (Girl, December 19, 2005)

Dasha: Jupiter Mahadasha, Mercury Antardasha

  • 5th house: Pisces — Even sign + in the reversed category → indicates girl
  • Jupiter (5th lord) in Pisces with Mercury → Mercury is neutral/female planet; Mercury Antardasha = Mercury's influence pronounced → girl confirmed
  • Additional influences on Pisces: Venus (half aspect), Moon (3/4 aspect), Saturn (3/4 aspect) — all soft/feminine influences support a girl birth

Tithi Pravesh 2005: Hora lord = Mercury; Dvisaptamsa Dasha = Venus (5th lord in 12th, but 5th lord giving child).

Second Child (Girl, October 1, 2008)

Dasha: Jupiter Mahadasha, Venus Antardasha

  • 2nd child reference: Capricorn (9th sign from 5th = 2nd child lagna)
  • Saturn = ruler of Capricorn; placed at 6° Sagittarius
  • Accompanying Saturn (from Capricorn as lagna): Moon and Ketu in 1st house → both indicate female
  • From Tithi Pravesh 2008: Jupiter in 1st house of the "2nd child lagna" — his Dasha giving the child makes sense

Third Child Possibility?

  • Reference sign: Scorpio (3rd child)
  • Scorpio contains Saturn + Ketu + Moon — Saturn is even/female; Ketu and Moon both indicate female; very crowded with female indicators
  • Lord of Scorpio = Ketu; Ketu is in the 2nd house from Scorpio → suggests abortion risk
  • Jupiter's aspect is present but weak; no strong fertile planet (Jupiter/Venus) near Scorpio

[!WARNING] Chance of a successful third pregnancy resulting in a live birth is very small. Even if a pregnancy occurs, abortion is likely. Even if a child is born, it would likely be another girl (based on the planetary indicators in Scorpio). PVR's advice: "She has two nice girls; she should be happy."

🕊️ Vimshamsha — Ishta Devata & Spiritual Potential {#vimshamsha}

Ishta Devata Identification

  • Atmakaraka: Jupiter
  • Jupiter in D20 (Vimshamsha): Aquarius, 12° 14' → placed in 1st house (by divisional longitude)
  • 12th house from Jupiter in D20: Capricorn (21° to end of sign)
  • Planet in 12th from Atmakaraka in D20: Saturn (23° Capricorn) — the only planet

Saturn in Capricorn (malefic sign, not with benefic):

  • Associated with tamasic divine forms; not Vishnu/Lakshmi
  • Modifying aspects: Mars (16°41' Gemini — half aspect, close enough) + debilitated Venus
  • Mars + debilitated Venus aspecting Saturn → warrior/fierce feminine divine

[!TIP] PVR's Ishta Devata recommendation: Chamundeshvari / Chandi — a warrior form of the Divine Mother. Worshipping Chamunda, or learning Chandi Path / Durga Sapta Sloki, or receiving initiation into Chamunda would be most aligned with her spiritual constitution.

[!NOTE] The traditional approach of looking at 12th from Karakamsha in Navamsa gives different results (Ketu in 10th from Jupiter there). PVR's research confirms D20 is more accurate for Ishta Devata identification.

Spiritual Potential in Chart

  • Saturn in D20: 7th and 8th lord in 7th house → powerful Maraka placement; excellent for spiritual progress
  • Saturn Dasha (upcoming) will be spiritually significant
  • Durddasha sequence: Leo → Libra → Capricorn Dashas
    • Capricorn Dasha (2021–2028): Taurus rises as Lagna in D20; Ketu in Lagna (karaka of spirituality); 12th lord in 12th house — classically auspicious for inner life
    • Shodasha Dasha running then: Saturn Mahadasha → Sun Antardasha is particularly good (Sun in 9th house with Rahu-Ketu in D20)

🎓 Shodashamsa — Education {#shodashamsa}

  • 9th house in D16 contains: Mars, Rahu, Ketu combination
  • 2nd house (masters/higher study) owned by Mars
  • Mars influence on both bachelor's and master's houses → electrical engineering education (Mars = electrical/mechanical energy)
  • Broadly consistent; Shodashamsa Lagna stable across small time changes

🌬️ Spiritual Recommendations {#spiritual}

Ishta Devata: Chamundeshvari / Chandi

  • Begin Chandi Path or Durga Sapta Sloki
  • Seek initiation into Chamunda

Dharmic Action

  • In Navamsa: 9th lord Mercury in 10th → combining Dharma with Karma
  • Mercury in Manushya Navamsa (Rajasic) → suitable Dharma involves Rajasic-Mercurian activities
  • Suggestion: Sponsor education of children in Sri Lanka; support libraries/universities; fund academic initiatives

Pranayama & Health

[!IMPORTANT] Saturn in 8th house (Rasi chart) with Sun → potential lung/breathing issues in Saturn Dasha. PVR's strong recommendation: correct diaphragmatic breathing before Saturn Dasha begins.

Correct breathing pattern:

Breathe IN → Lungs expand → Diaphragm pushed DOWN → Stomach PROTRUDES outward
Breathe OUT → Diaphragm rises → Stomach PULLED IN → Lungs contract

Common modern error: Consciously holding stomach in → diaphragm pulled UP during inhalation
                     → restricted air intake → chronic oxygen deficit

Pranayama regimen:

  1. First: correct the breathing pattern (verify stomach protrudes when inhaling)
  2. Then: 10 minutes Kapalbhati daily
  3. Then: 5 minutes Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing)
  4. After pranayama: meditate (efficiency will increase significantly)

❓ Why Jupiter Dasha Is Not Giving Recognition {#jupiter-dasha}

Chart Jupiter's Role Assessment
Rasi (D1) 5th lord in 5th house Good for children (5th lord in 5th); NOT a Raja Yoga significator
Navamsa (D9) 6th lord in 6th house (Harsha Yoga) Functional malefic; gives subtle well-being but not fame
Dasamsa (D10) 6th lord (functional malefic) in 10th Career exists but Jupiter spoils the potential Raja Yoga (Mercury + Rahu = 5th + 9th lords forming Raja Yoga, but Jupiter as 6th lord disrupts it)

[!IMPORTANT] Atmakaraka in Vargottama does not automatically give recognition or Raja Yoga. Atmakaraka shows the soul's sense of "I" — but whether it gives worldly recognition depends on its functional nature in relevant divisional charts. Jupiter here is a functional malefic in both D9 and D10. The Raja Yoga potential (Mercury + Rahu as 5th + 9th lords) is being disrupted by Jupiter's presence as a malefic.
