🕉️ Class 78 — Surya Siddhanta in Practice: Tarun's Education & Career Chart (D-24, D-10), Sub-Divisional Charts & Ongoing Research Methodology
The first fully Surya Siddhanta-based class session applies the new calculation model to a live chart consultation: Tarun, a math and applied physics undergraduate seeking clarity on master's path vs. medicine. The class demonstrates D-24 lagna rectification, Parashara Chara Dasha of divisional charts, Tajaka annual chart analysis, and opens a deep discussion on sub-divisional charts (D-24 by D-9), Ashtottarvarga, and why divisional charts must be treated as equal in importance to the Rashi chart.

💻 Software Update — Surya Siddhanta & Chara Dasha of Divisional Charts {#software}
Jhora 7.5 release: The latest update enables:
- Surya Siddhanta planetary calculations (menu option — not default)
- Chara Dasha of divisional charts — select Options → pick divisional chart (D-24, D-9, D-10, etc.) when viewing Parashara Chara Dasha
- Sub-divisional charts — D-M by D-N (e.g., D-24 by D-9 = Navamsa of the D-24 chart)
[!NOTE] How to use divisional Vimshottari Dasha (for remedies and career-specific timing): Go to Dashas → Nakshatra Dashas → Vimshottari → Options → Select the divisional chart. The teacher's method: use the Vimshottari Dasha based on Moon's position within that divisional chart (not the natal Rashi Moon).
For Tajaka annual charts: Dashas → Preferences related to Dashas → "Dasha seed settings for Tajaka" → Uncheck "Use Dasha seed Nakshatra/Lagna from natal chart." This ensures the annual chart's own Moon Nakshatra seeds the Dasha, not the natal chart's progression.
Pronunciation note from opening discussion: Om Ghṛṇi Sūrya Āditya — ghṛṇi derives from ghṛ (to shine/burn). Ghṛtam (ghee) comes from the same root — fully heated butter that becomes radiant. Southern Indians say "Ghruni," Northern Indians say "Ghreni," but the classical pronunciation is Ghṛṇi.
📊 Chart — Tarun, Aug 18 1989, Wilmington, Delaware {#tarun-chart}
Consultation Date: ~December 2010 / January 2011
Birth Data: August 18, 1989, 11:37 PM, Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4)
Location: Wilmington, Delaware — 75°32'49"W, 39°44'45"N
Rashi Lagna: ~1°12' Taurus (Surya Siddhanta)
Rashi Moon: ~28°15' Aquarius (Surya Siddhanta)
Situation: Male, currently doing dual degrees in math and applied physics (top student, 4.0 in both). Wanted to do medicine but did not get into desired universities. Question: Should he continue in math/physics for masters, or can he switch to medicine? Will he do well in his master's?
🔭 D-24 Lagna Rectification: Cancer vs. Leo {#rectification}
D-24 rectification window:
- 3 minutes 43 seconds earlier → Gemini D-24 lagna
- 8 seconds later → Leo D-24 lagna
- Given time shows Cancer D-24 lagna
| D-24 Lagna Option | Time Error Required | Likelihood |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini | ~4 minutes earlier | Less likely (4-min error possible) |
| Cancer (current) | Given time | Likely |
| Leo | +8 seconds | Very likely (8-second slip = trivial) |
[!IMPORTANT] 8 seconds is within the margin of any birth time recording. The candidate lagna options are primarily Cancer or Leo — both are tested against known facts: Tarun is a consistently top student, selected for Jeopardy at age 10 (competitive recognition), doing dual degrees in a rigorous program.
🦀 D-24 Cancer Lagna Analysis {#cancer-lagna}
Chart Structure (Cancer D-24 Lagna, Surya Siddhanta)
| House | Contents | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Lagna | Empty | Lagna lord Moon in 12th with 12th lord Mercury — unfavorable; Moon in inimical sign (Mercury is enemy) |
| 4th house | — | Affected by Venus aspect (Venus = 4th+11th lord = functional malefic) |
| 5th house | Rahu + Ketu | Ketu in own sign (exalted) = good; Rahu = 8th lord = afflicts intelligence house |
| 9th house | Jupiter | 9th lord (Jupiter) in 11th house — good for fortune but not sharp recognition; Jupiter = 6th+9th lord = neutral/weak benefic |
[!NOTE] Jupiter for Cancer lagna in D-24: Jupiter owns the 6th (trishadaya malefic) and 9th (trikona benefic). Parashara's exception: Jupiter is the karaka for the 9th house, so for Cancer lagna he is treated as benefic — but a weak benefic. He's in Badhakasthana (11th house for movable Cancer lagna), in an inimical sign → further weakened.
Assessment: Lagna lord weak (12th house, inimical sign with 12th lord). Fifth house of scholarship afflicted (Rahu as 8th lord). The chart does not strongly show a top student. Some case can be made with Jupiter's 9th-lord aspect on 5th house, but it's forced logic.
🦁 D-24 Leo Lagna Analysis — Preferred {#leo-lagna}
Time adjustment: Add just 8 seconds to birth time → Leo D-24 lagna.
Chart Structure (Leo D-24 Lagna, Surya Siddhanta)
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Lagna lord Sun | In Virgo with 9th lord Mars (Yogakaraka) → Lagna lord + 9th lord together = Rajayoga |
| 5th lord Jupiter | In 10th house (kendra) — trikona lord in kendra = well-placed for recognition, scholarship |
| Three trine lords in mutual trines | Sun (1st+9th lord), Mars (5th+9th lord), Jupiter (5th+8th lord) — all in mutual trine aspects |
| 8th lord Jupiter | 8th lord + 5th lord = neutral; with 5th as the other house = benefic |
| Dasha running | Jupiter Dasha → basic/competitive education period; strong benefic |
| Setback Dasha | Saturn Dasha (current) — 6th+7th lord = malefic; debilitated; retrograde |
[!IMPORTANT] Leo D-24 = clearly the better fit. The three trine lords (Sun, Mars, Jupiter) in mutual trines is a powerfully auspicious combination — the entire chart's energy converges in dharma/fortune houses. This explains a perpetually top-ranking student who won Jeopardy at age 10.
Saturn Dasha (current): Saturn is 6th+7th lord (malefic) and debilitated. This is the period of the setback — not getting into desired medical universities (2007, beginning of Scorpio Chara Dasha + Saturn Vimshottari). Debilitated retrograde Saturn softens the blow but does not remove it.

📅 Chara Dasha of D-24 (Leo Lagna) — Education Timeline {#chara-dasha}
Method: Parashara Chara Dasha applied to D-24 divisional chart (Leo Lagna, Surya Siddhanta)
| Dasha Period | Approximate Dates | D-24 House | Quality | Events |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leo Dasha | Birth – ~2000 | 1st (Lagna) | Good — Lagna; lord in Rajayoga | Strong foundational education; competitive wins |
| Virgo Dasha | ~2000 – ~2006 | 2nd | Very good — contains Rajayoga planets (Sun+Mars) | Academic distinction; deeper studies |
| Libra Dasha | ~2006 – ~2009 | 3rd | Good for initiative/competition | 3rd lord Venus in 6th → 3rd lord in 6th = success in competition; Jeopardy, competitions; also start of medical school setback |
| Scorpio Dasha | ~2009 – ~2016 | 4th | Mixed — 4th = direction; nodes in 4th = confusion | Medical admission rejection; uncertainty about path; ongoing studies |
[!TIP] Scorpio Dasha interpretation: Scorpio is the 4th house (direction, peace of mind, comfort). Rahu+Ketu are in Scorpio. Nodes are neutral (in kendra, not malefic house); Mars is lord (in Rajayoga). Confusion in direction, not destruction. Jupiter aspects Scorpio = some grace. One lord (Mars) in Rajayoga = studies won't stop; just uncertainty. Dasha runs till ~2016 → bachelor's completion and early master's period.
📆 Tajaka Annual Chart 2006 — Setback Year Analysis {#tajaka-2006}
Why 2006 Tajaka chart? The medical school rejection happened spring 2007 (before August 18, 2007 birthday), so the relevant Tajaka chart is cast at the solar return of August 19, 2006 at 9:11 AM.
D-24 Tajaka 2006 — Key Factors
| Factor | Detail | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Lagna | Guru-Chanda Yoga in Lagna (Jupiter + Rahu/Ketu) | Initially looks like a yoga — but Jupiter and nodes are enemies; this is actually problematic |
| Jupiter role | 5th lord (Lagna lord = Ketu; stronger Lagna lord = Mars) in Lagna | Rahu = 4th lord; Ketu = Lagna lord; Jupiter = 5th lord → yoga between Lagna lord, 4th lord, 5th lord |
| Guru-Chanda assessment | Jupiter-Rahu yoga = enemies together; not a true Rajayoga per Parashara | Results will be feeble — education doesn't stop but gets setback |
| Stronger Lagna lord Mars | Mars in inimical sign (Aquarius), in 4th house of D-24 | Mars afflicted by 8th lord Mercury = Dur Yoga (Lagna lord + 8th lord = inauspicious) |
| Ninth lord Moon | Moon in 8th house (Maraka-Arka-Sthana) | Fortune is blocked this year; no rescue from the fortune house |
| Savior | Jupiter (despite Guru-Chanda) is in friendly sign; remains 5th lord functional benefic | Education doesn't completely stop — partial rescue |
[!WARNING] This year shows a significant setback in education but not a complete halt. The Guru-Chanda Yoga in Lagna with Rahu creates confusion and problems. The Lagna lord (Mars) is in a Dur Yoga with 8th lord. Ninth lord Moon in 8th house removes fortune. Jupiter partially saves. Result: rejection from desired institutions; forced change of direction. This matches the actual event.
📆 Tajaka Annual Charts 2011 & 2012 — Looking Forward {#tajaka-2011-2012}
Tajaka D-24 2011 (Current Year of Consultation)
| Factor | Detail | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Lagna lord | In Rajayoga with Bhāga lord | Studies continuing well |
| 4th house | Venus + Mercury (both functional malefics) in 4th | Direction/comfort still confused; Venus = 3rd+10th lord malefic; Mercury = 11th lord malefic in 4th |
| 4th lord Mars | In exchange (Parivartana) with Mercury | Neither Raja nor Dur Yoga — neutral exchange; direction slightly disrupted |
| Venus Dasha (annual Vimshottari at semester start) | Venus = functional malefic in 4th house | Beginning of semester = unhappy, uncomfortable, unfocused |
| Sun Dasha (Oct–Nov period) | Sun = 8th lord in 9th house (slightly benefic) | Modest improvement |
| Fifth lord Mars (in 12th house) | Afflicted by Saturn | Opportunity appears but may be rejected (5th lord in 12th = opportunity in rejection house) |
Verdict 2011: Year of continuing confusion. Studies proceed but no dramatic breakthrough. Not advised to stop education this year. Mercury Dasha in D-10 (Aug 20–Oct 11) shows some career possibility but Lagna lord Jupiter afflicted by Ketu (12th lord) reduces it.
Tajaka D-24 2012 (Next Year)
| Factor | Detail | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| D-24 Lagna | Capricorn | Venus = Yogakaraka (5th+10th) even though debilitated |
| Ninth house | Venus (debilitated) + Mercury (exalted, slightly benefic) + Sun (benefic in this sign) — extremely close conjunction at ~15° | Major stellium in 9th house |
| Sun + Mercury + Venus degrees | Sun 15°47', Mercury 15°07', Venus 15°47' — within 1 degree | Extremely tight conjunction of 5th lord (Venus), 9th lord (Sun), 8th/9th lord (Mercury) |
| 8th lord as benefic | Mercury = 6th+9th lord → neutral/slight benefic; with Yogakaraka = becomes benefic | Auspicious 8th lord = sudden positive change |
| Eleventh house | Chandra-Mangala Yoga + Gaja-Kesari Yoga + Guru-Mangala Yoga (Moon+Jupiter+Mars) in own/friendly signs | Three yogas in 11th = fulfillment of desires; powerful gains |
| Lagna lord Saturn | In 6th house (own/strong) | Obstacles overcome through self-effort |
| 4th lord Mars | In own sign in 11th | Direction becomes clear — relief |
[!IMPORTANT] 2012 is a highly auspicious year for education. Fourth lord in own sign (4th = direction in life) = finally clarity, peace, happiness, "I've done it" feeling. Ninth house stellium = fortunate breaks. Three yogas in 11th = desire fulfillment. This is the year to watch for a breakthrough in his educational path (whether admission to medicine, master's program, or some other desired development).

💼 D-10 Career Analysis — What Profession? {#career}
D-10 Chart Overview (Taurus Lagna, Surya Siddhanta)
| Planet | House | Role | Career Significance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mars | Lagna (1st) | Exalted; lagna lord | Leadership, initiative |
| Sun | 8th (own sign) | 4th lord | Research, unearthing hidden things |
| Venus | 7th (Cancer) | Yogakaraka (5th+10th) | Best career planet; interactions, teaching |
| Jupiter | 9th | Functional malefic (8th lord) but in 9th kendra | Blesses fortune, teaching inclination |
| Saturn | Various | Debilitated 6th+7th lord | Setbacks in service sector during this period |
| Moon | Debilitated in Scorpio | 3rd lord | Mars-afflicted Moon suggests medicine possibility |
What Career Is Indicated?
Approach: Read from 2nd house (resources), 6th house (service), and 10th house.
| House | Lord | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| 10th house | Venus (Yogakaraka) — in 7th house (Cancer) | 10th lord in 7th = career through interactions; Venus in Cancer = healing |
| Amsa ruler of Venus | Ishana (auspicious form of Shiva) | Ishana = teacher, priest, religious professions, dharmic work |
| 6th house | 10th lord Venus's exaltation lord | Service and struggle aspects |

Mercury4["☿ Mercury\n2nd lord in 2nd Moola Trikona\nDominates chart"] --> Math["Mathematics\nAnalytical field\nMercury wins over Mars"]
[!NOTE] Math vs. Medicine — who wins?
- D-24 education chart: 2nd lord Mercury in 11th house, very strong; 9th lord (bachelor's) Mars in Virgo (Mercury's sign) = Mercury's sign dominates Mars's energy → math/applied physics field
- D-10 career: Venus in Cancer + Moon in Scorpio + Mars aspects = some medicine signal
- Sun+Mars in Virgo = Applied physics (Mercury's sign containing Sun+Mars) → more mathematical/theoretical physics rather than medicine
- Teacher's conclusion: Mercury will dominate. Applied physics/math is more likely than medicine. Field may become more mathematical/theoretical over time (Mercury = theory; Mars = practical). Some medicine possibility remains.
Career Timing
| Period | D-10 Dasha | Quality |
|---|---|---|
| Until ~2018 | Various unfavorable periods | Career slow-building; study phase |
| From ~2018 | Venus Vimshottari Mahadasha (20 years) | EXCELLENT — Yogakaraka Venus for entire early career; very smooth |
| Age ~29–49 | Venus Dasha | Peak career period |
[!TIP] If pursuing medicine: A career change is possible during master's, but the chart does not show a strong dramatic change in 2011. 2012 shows better breaks. The more likely path is a strong mathematics/physics career culminating in research or academic teaching (Ishana Amsa of Venus). Medicine remains a secondary possibility given Moon+Mars+Venus combination.
🔬 Sub-Divisional Charts — D-24 by D-9 (Research Feature) {#sub-divisional}
What is D-M by D-N?
Jhora 7.5 introduces an experimental sub-divisional chart feature. You take a divisional chart (e.g., D-24, education) and find further divisions within it (e.g., D-9 Navamsa of the D-24).
Concept: All divisional points exist in the same physical zodiac. The Navamsa of your D-24 Moon is in actual physical Gemini (or wherever) — not an abstract "D-24-Navamsa-Gemini." So you can legitimately find further divisions.
| Traditional Examples | Modern Application |
|---|---|
| Dvaadasamsa-Navamsa | D-24 by D-9 |
| Navamsa of Navamsa | D-9 by D-9 |
| Trimsamsa of Navamsa | D-9 by D-30 |
Practical use: Finding further charts allows seeing fortune (Navamsa), suffering (Trimsamsa), career (Dashamsa) within a specific area of life (education, spirituality, marriage, etc.).
Sign Change Windows in D-24 by D-9 (Tarun's Chart)
| Planet | Earlier sign change | Later sign change | Reliability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lagna | 2 seconds earlier | 24 seconds later | Unreliable — do not use for prediction |
| Jupiter | 12 minutes earlier | 5 hours 50 min later | Reliable |
| Mars | 3 hours earlier | 2 hours 7 min later | Reliable |
| Moon | 5 min 50 sec earlier | 8 min 10 sec later | Borderline — verify carefully |
[!WARNING] When Lagna changes every 26 seconds, do not use Lagna for sub-divisional analysis. Use only planets that are clearly within a sign window of several hours. Moon may be borderline — always check the time window before relying on Moon's position in sub-divisional charts.
Future application: Once this research matures, precise sub-divisional positions could enable very fine chart rectification using life events to within minutes of accuracy.
🔍 Research Methodology — Raising the Bar {#research}
The Role of Divisional Charts
[!IMPORTANT] Divisional charts are NOT secondary to Rashi charts. The teacher's firm position:
"Most astrologers today say Rashi chart is the key chart, and divisional chart is just for confirmation. If Rashi chart doesn't show something, divisional chart cannot overwrite it. But we know twins born two minutes apart have very different lives — their Rashi charts are identical. Divisional charts must be crucial. Parashara said use D-24 for education, D-10 for career, D-20 for spirituality. He didn't say 'use Rashi chart first, then check divisional.' Once you find the divisional chart, treat it as your Rashi chart for that area of life."
Priority Hierarchy for Research

Step2 --> Step3["Step 3: Tajaka Varshaphala\n(annual solar return)"]
Step3 --> Future["Future: Conditional Dashas\nArudha system\nAshtottarvarga\nSub-divisional charts"]
Dasha Systems — Current Working Priority
| Rank | Dasha Type | Coverage | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Parashara Chara Dasha + transits from Dasha sign | ~75% of charts | King of Rashi Dashas (Parashara's own words) |
| 2 | Vimshottari Dasha of divisional chart | Life-area-specific | Use divisional Moon's Nakshatra as seed |
| 3 | Tajaka Mudda Dasha | Annual events | Much improved with Surya Siddhanta |
| 4 | Tithi Pravesh annual chart | Annual events | Still valid; Moon-based |
| — | Conditional Nakshatra Dashas | Research phase | Vargottama, etc. — still being worked out |
| — | Trikona/Kendra Raja Dashas | Some charts | Use when Chara doesn't work clearly |
[!NOTE] On Ashtottarvarga: Parashara said: "Kali Yuga people are so dumb that when there are so many factors, they can't balance everything and come to a conclusion. So I'm giving them an objective tool." Ashtottarvarga is that objective tool — a numerical scoring system. It remains a major area of future research.
[!NOTE] On Sahamas (Arabic Parts): Mentioned by Nilakantha and other latter-day authors (not Parashara's original BPHS). The teacher will focus on Parashara's teachings first, including: Vimshottari and conditional Nakshatra Dashas, Chara Dasha, Sudarshana Chakra Dasha, transits, and Ashtottarvarga. Sahamas can be explored after Parashara's system is mastered.
Remedy Principle
[!TIP] For remedies in a specific area of life (education, career, health):
- Go to the relevant divisional chart (D-24 for education, D-10 for career, D-30 for health)
- Find the Vimshottari Dasha running in that divisional chart (not the Rashi Vimshottari)
- Propitiate the Dasha lord of that divisional chart's current Dasha
Tarun's remedy: Saturn Dasha in D-24 (education chart) = propitiate Vishnu (Vishnu Sahasranama). Mercury is also a key planet (2nd lord in 11th house — fulfillment of education desires) → Vishnu Sahasranama is optimal for both Saturn and Mercury. Everything converges to Vishnu in this chart (Mercury in 4th house in Rashi chart too; Rashi 4th lord in 4th = Vishnu orientation).
