🕉️ Class 19 — BPHS Chapter 20 Continued: Ninth House Father's Longevity Verses, Fortune Combinations & Guna Ankas Matchmaking Table

Completion of BPHS Chapter 20 ninth house: remaining verses on father's longevity with specific year predictions and astrological logic; fortune-combinations (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Parivartana, Rahu combinations); general summary of ninth house principles. Second half: hands-on walkthrough of the traditional Guna Ankas (Gunmela Chakra) lookup table for nakshatra-based matchmaking — Gana classification, Varna-specific priorities, and Yoni/Nadi/Rashi Kuta logic.

[!NOTE] This class resumes from Class 18 mid-ninth-house. Teacher distributes a printed Telugu Guna Ankas table in the second half of class. Class ends with Parashara's ninth-house summary verse.

🙏 Opening — Continuing BPHS Ch. 20

Om Gananam Tva Ganapatim Abhamahé... Om Slim Jim Jyotir Brahmaya Namah Hare Ramakrishna (×3)

"Welcome back after a long break." Resuming from verse 12 of Chapter 20 (ninth house), where the previous class stopped. Charturthamsa (D4) = primary divisional for Bhagya; D12 = for father specifically.

📖 Father's Longevity — Remaining Verses

[!IMPORTANT] All Sanskrit from Santanam's version. Year numbers given in these verses for father's death are treated as indicative, not absolute. The teacher frequently notes uncertainty about derivation of specific numbers; logic for the astrological combinations is more reliable than the exact years.

Verse 12 (Repeated from end of Class 18) — Living by Begging

"Karmadhipena Sahito Vikrameshopini Balaha. Bhagyapo Neecha Mudhastho Yogo Bhikshasana Pradah."

Combination: 10th lord and 3rd lord are together and both weak; 9th lord is debilitated or combust (Mudha = combust). Result: The person will live by begging.

Verse 13 — Father Expires Before Birth

"Sasthasthamavjayé Bhanu Randresé Bhagyasamyyuté. Yayéshe Lagna Rashisté Sashtesé Panchamé Sthité. Jatasya Jananat Purvam Janakasya Mrutirbhavét."

Combination:

  • Sun (Bhanu) in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house (Dusthanas)
  • 8th lord in the 9th house
  • 12th lord in Lagna
  • 6th lord in the 5th house

Result: Father expires before the birth of the native.

Arudha logic:

  • 12th lord in Lagna → A12 falls in 2nd house (Kutumba sthana) → some loss in the family
  • 8th lord in 9th → A8 (Mrityupada) falls in 10th house
  • 6th lord in 5th → A6 falls in 7th house
  • A6 and A8 are in mutual saptamaka (7th from each other) — dusthana Arudhas afflicting Maraka sthanas from 9th house (father's reference)

[!NOTE] The teacher acknowledges that from current knowledge, this combination logically shows suffering and setback relating to father, with some family loss. The specific claim of "death before birth" requires higher knowledge, but the combinations clearly afflict the 9th house reference and its Maraka positions.

Verse 14 — Father Dies in First Year

"Randhra sthana gate Surye. Randhrese bhagya bhavage. Jatasya prathamabdhetu pitur maranam adishet."

Combination:

  • Sun in 8th house
  • 8th lord in 9th house

Result: In the first year of the native's life, father will die.

Logic:

  • Sun (Pitru Karaka) in 8th = setback to father indicated
  • 8th lord in 9th = 9th house (father's house) is afflicted
  • A8 (Mrityupada) falls in the 10th house from Lagna = 2nd house from 9th (Maraka from father)
  • 9th from Sun (= 4th house from Lagna) can also represent father; A8 is in the 7th from that = 10th from Lagna (another Maraka position from father's reference)

Probability note: Sun in 8th = 1/12; 8th lord in 9th = 1/12. Combined: 1/144 charts.

Verse 15 — Father Dies in 3rd or 16th Year

"Yaye se bhagya rashi sthe. Neecham se bhagya nayake. Triteeyeshodase varse jannakasya mrutirbhavet."

Combination:

  • 12th lord in 9th house
  • 9th lord debilitated in amsa (Navamsa or D12)

Result: Father expires in the 3rd or 16th year of the native's life.

Verse 16 — Father Dies in 2nd or 12th Year

"Lagneshe nashta rashi sthe randhre se bhalu samyute. Diteeye dvadase varse pitur maranam adishet."

Combination:

  • Lagna lord in 12th house (Nashta sthana = house of destruction/loss)
  • 8th lord conjoining Sun

Result: Father expires in the 2nd or 12th year of native's life.

Verse 17 — Father Dies in 16th or 18th Year

"Bhagya randhra gate rahau bhagya bhagya gate ravau. Shodasestadashe varse jannakasya mrutirbhavet."

Combination:

  • Rahu in the 8th from 9th house = 4th house (Rahu in 4th)
  • Sun in the 9th from 9th house = 5th house (Sun in 5th)

Result: Father expires in the 16th or 18th year.

Logic:

  • Rahu in 4th = Maraka position from 9th house (Rahu in 8th from father's reference)
  • Rahu aspects 5th house (its 2nd house aspect) → Sun in 5th is aspected by Rahu
  • Sun (Pitru Karaka) afflicted by Rahu though Sun is not in a Dusthana per se
  • 16 and 18 = years associated with Rahu (natural year significance)

[!NOTE] A student confirmed having Sun + Rahu in the 9th house with Sun as 9th lord. Teacher: The 9th lord being in the 9th house with Rahu is moderated — 9th lord in own house provides protection. Father may still face difficulties (Rahu's eclipse) but the own-house strength can safeguard longevity. The student's father was alive at age 42 of the student, supporting this interpretation.

Verse 18 — Father Dies in 7th or 19th Year

"Rahuna sahite surye chandrAt bhAgya gate shau. Saptamaye kona vimshAbde tatAsya maranam dhruvam."

Combination:

  • Sun is with Rahu (any house)
  • Saturn is in the 9th from Moon

Result: Father's death is certain in the 7th or 19th year.

Logic:

  • Sun (Pitru Karaka) eclipsed/afflicted by Rahu
  • Saturn in 9th from Moon = the native's emotional/mental sense of father (ninth from Moon = thoughts about father, fortune) is afflicted by Saturn
  • When Saturn's Dasha or natural year activates, the native becomes sad about father

[!TIP] Why ninth from Moon matters: Moon is the karaka of mind. 9th from Moon = the person's thoughts and emotions relating to father, dharma, and fortune. Saturn there = native will experience sadness in this area when Saturn activates. Numbers 7 and 19 = natural year associations of Saturn (7th planet in sequence; 19 = his Vishuddha Dasha years).

Verse 19 — Father Dies Around 28th Year (Parivartana)

"Bhagyese vajya rashithe. Yajese bhagya rashige." (Partial — word "Vadabdi" appears corrupt)

Combination:

  • 9th lord in 12th house
  • 12th lord in 9th house (Parivartana)

Result: Father dies around the native's 28th year (teacher's interpretation of the corrupt vadabdi; original may be 4×7 = 28).

[!NOTE] The word vadabdi is textually unclear. Vada = speech (four types; four); abdi = ocean (seven oceans; seven). Teacher's best interpretation: 4 × 7 = 28. Santanam translates as 44; this may be from a different reading of the word. Take the combination's logic (9th-12th Parivartana) as the key indicator; specific year is approximate.

Verse 20 — Father Dies in 5th, 31st, or 40th Year

"Ravyamse cha sthite chandre lagneshe randhra samyute. Pancha trimshaik chatwarinshat varshe maranam pituh."

Combination:

  • Moon in Sun's amsa (likely D12, as D12 shows father)
  • Lagna lord in 8th house

Result: Father expires in the 5th, 31st, or 40th year.

[!NOTE] Unlike longevity rules (which follow mobile/fixed/dual logic), these year-specific combinations appear to derive from a Dasha scheme the teacher does not have access to. The combinations themselves indicate problems (Lagna lord in 8th = general difficulty; Moon in Sun's amsa relates to some Dwadashamsa influence), but the exact years are opaque.

Verse 21 — Long Life for Father (9th lord = Sun, afflicted but protected)

"Pitru sthanadhipa surye. Manda bhava samanvite. Panchasad vatsare prapte janakasyamrutirbhavet."

Combination:

  • Sun is the 9th lord (meaning native has Sagittarius or Aries Lagna typically)
  • Sun is with Mars or Saturn (affliction present)

Result: Despite the affliction, father lives till native's 50th year — indicating a long life for father.

[!IMPORTANT] This is a positive verse. Parashara is saying: even with Saturnine or Martian affliction to the Sun (when Sun is the 9th lord), if Sun is strong (e.g., in own sign Leo), father will live to a good age. The verse shows that 9th lord being Sun is inherently auspicious for father's longevity, and even malefic affliction doesn't destroy it completely.

Student confirmation: A student (whose Sun = 9th lord + Rahu conjunction in own house) confirmed father passed away when student was ~42–43, with Rahu's natural year confirming the timing.

Verse 22 — Father Dies in 6th or 25th Year

"Bhagya Saptamage Surye. Bhratru Saptamagastamah. Shashtebde Panchavimsabde Pitur Maranam Adhishet."

Combination:

  • Sun in 3rd house (7th from 9th = Maraka from father's reference)
  • Rahu in 3rd or 7th house (teacher's interpretation; Santanam differs)

Result: Father expires in the 6th or 25th year.

Logic: Rahu aspects Sun (or they share house) — Pitru Karaka afflicted; and both 3rd house (Maraka from father) and 9th house are under Rahu's influence.

Verse 23 — Father Dies in 21st, 26th, or 30th Year

"Randhra Jamitrage Mande. Manda Jamitrage Ravau. Trimshaikavimshe Shadvimshe pitru maranam."

Combination:

  • Saturn in 7th or 8th house
  • Saturn and Sun in mutual 7th (Sapta-Astaka)

Result: Father expires in the 21st, 26th, or 30th year.

Logic:

  • Saturn aspects Sun (Pitru Karaka afflicted)
  • Saturn in 7th or 8th from Lagna = aspecting Lagna or 2nd house; also in Maraka/8th position from 9th house
  • Saturn–Sun mutual 7th = opposition, classical enmity

Verse 24 — Father Dies in 26th or 33rd Year (Parivartana with Debility)

"Bhagyese nīca rāśiṣṭhe tadīśe bhāgya rāśige. Ṣaḍviṃśatitreyas triṃśe pitṛ maranam ādiśet."

Combination:

  • 9th lord debilitated in some sign
  • Lord of that debilitation sign in the 9th house (Neechabhanga Parivartana)

Result: Father expires in the 26th or 33rd year.

[!NOTE] This is a medium life combination for father — neither catastrophic (short) nor excellent (long). Neechabhanga through Parivartana partially recovers the 9th lord's strength, leading to a moderate outcome. 26 and 33 are reasonably adult years for the native, not childhood/youth.

Verse 25 — Final Summary (Meta-Verse)

"Evaṃ jātasyadaivajño phalaṃ jñātvā vinirdiśet."

Translation: "Like this, the astrologer should know the results of the native and explain properly."

🌟 Fortune Combinations

Venus Deeply Exalted + 9th Lord + Saturn in 3rd

"Paramoścāṁśake śukre bhagyese na samavite. Bhrātṛ sthāne śani yute bahubhāgyādipo bhavet."

Combination:

  • Venus at deep exaltation (~27–28° Pisces)
  • Venus with the 9th lord
  • Saturn in the 3rd house

Result: The person is very fortunate.

Logic:

  • Venus = Karaka for fortune; deeply exalted = maximum strength
  • 9th lord + Karaka together = Karaka-lord conjunction in 9th house matters = excellent
  • Saturn in 3rd = Upachaya for Saturn (malefic in Upachaya = good); Saturn's aspect on 9th house shows determination (Parakrama) applied to fortune-seeking

Jupiter in 9th + 9th Lord in Kendra → Fortune from 20th Year

"Guruna samyute bhagyhe. Tadise kendra rasige. Vinsadvarsat param chaiva. Bahubhagyam vinirdiset."

Combination:

  • Jupiter in the 9th house
  • 9th lord in a Kendra (quadrant)

Result: From the 20th year onward, great fortune — multiple kinds of fortune.

Logic: Jupiter in 9th = Dharma house blessed by Jiva (life-force); 9th lord in Kendra = link between Lakshmi sthana (9th) and Vishnu sthana (Kendra). The 20th year is Mercury's natural year → begins a period of professional fortune.

[!NOTE] If the 9th lord is also a 6th lord here (e.g., for Aquarius Lagna, Venus is both 9th and 4th lord... but if Jupiter is 3rd+6th lord in some Lagna): Jupiter's 6th lordship may bring fortune through litigation or struggle. Both are possible simultaneously — fortune and struggle. Mars being debilitated in such a case weakens the struggle indication.

Mercury Deeply Exalted + 9th Lord in 9th → Fortune from 36th Year

"Paramotsamsa ke somye bhagyese bhagyarasike. Shatrimshat cha param chaiva bahubhagyam vinirdhishay."

Combination:

  • Mercury at deep exaltation (~15° Virgo)
  • 9th lord in the 9th house

Result: From the 36th year, great fortune.

Logic: Mercury = Karaka of livelihood and business. Deeply exalted + 9th lord in own house = professional/business fortune from mid-life onward. Mercury's natural year = 36th.

Lagna-9th Lord Parivartana + Jupiter in 7th

"Lagnese bhagyarasisthe bhagyese lagna samyute. Guruna samyute jyure dhanavahana labhakrut."

Combination:

  • Lagna lord and 9th lord in mutual exchange (Parivartana)
  • Jupiter in the 7th house

Result: Wealth, vehicles, and profits for the native.

Logic:

  • Lagna-9th Parivartana = strong Dharma Trikona + Lagna link
  • AL and A9 (Arudha of Lagna lord and 9th lord) both fall in the 5th house = Raja Yoga of Arudhas — materialistic success (wealth, vehicles, gains)
  • Jupiter in 7th = aspects Lagna lord and 9th lord (after Parivartana); his blessings on both

Rahu in 5th + 5th Lord in 8th + 9th Lord Debilitated → No Fortune

"Bhagyad bhagyagato rahustadise nidhanam gate. Bhagyese nicha rasisthe bhagyahiro bhavennarah."

Combination:

  • Rahu in the 5th house (Bhagya from Bhagya = 9th from 9th = 5th)
  • 5th lord (Rahu's dispositor) in the 8th house (Nidhana)
  • 9th lord debilitated

Result: The person is bhagyahira — bereft of fortune.

Logic:

  • 5th house = Purva Punya (merit from past lives); Rahu afflicts it
  • 5th lord in 8th = Purva Punya lord in house of suffering
  • 9th lord debilitated = direct weakness to fortune
  • Rahu aspects 9th house from 5th (his 5th aspect) — 9th house also beaten

Moon + Saturn in 9th + Lagna Lord Debilitated → Living by Begging

"Bhagyasthanagate vande sasinarca samanvite. Lagnese neeca raasisthe bhiksasce janaro bhavet."

Combination:

  • Moon and Saturn together in the 9th house
  • Lagna lord debilitated

Result: The person lives seeking alms; misfortune.

Dual interpretation:

Angle Interpretation
Material Person is sad about fortune; chronically depressed; seeking alms
Spiritual Moon + Saturn = renunciation combination; detaching mind from fortune and possessions

[!IMPORTANT] For the spiritual reading to apply, the Lagna lord should ideally be strong (a great saint generally has strength of self). Lagna lord in debility = overall essence of person is weakened/depressed. More likely to be the material (unfortunate) reading. Moon+Saturn alone in 9th (without weak Lagna lord) = possible renunciation/detachment combination.

📊 Ninth House — Parashara's Summary

"Evam bhagyaphalam vipra. Sankhyebhih katham maya. Lagnesa bhagyabhavesa. Sithya sithyanjadapi. Evam bhagyaphalam vipra."

Translation: "Like this, O Brahmin, I have briefly explained the results of the ninth house. From the positions of the Lagna lord and the ninth lord, and from other things also, judge the ninth house results."

[!TIP] The essential anchor for ninth house: always assess the Lagna lord and 9th lord — their placement, strength, associations, and afflictions. All other combinations refine this basic assessment.

Next chapters: Teacher mentions moving to career (likely 10th house) — expecting to take a couple of classes. 11th and 12th houses described as "fast" topics.

🎴 Guna Ankas Matchmaking Table

How to Use the Table

The teacher distributes a printed Telugu Guna Ankas / Gunamela Chakra table based on nakshatra and Rashi of bride and bridegroom. The table consolidates all Kuta scores into a single lookup.

Structure of the table:

  • Top row (columns): Bridegroom's nakshatra grouped by Rashi, in nakshatra-pada units
    • First column group = Aries (Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika first pada)
    • Second group = Taurus (Krittika 2nd-4th pada, Rohini, Mrigashira 1st-2nd pada)
    • Third group = Gemini (Mrigashira 3rd-4th pada, Ardra, Punarvasu 1st-3rd pada)
    • Fourth group = Cancer (Punarvasu 4th pada, Pushya, Ashlesha), etc.
  • Side column (rows): Bride's nakshatra by the same structure
  • Intersection: Score out of 36

Steps:

  1. Find bridegroom's nakshatra column (using his Rashi + nakshatra + pada)
  2. Find bride's nakshatra row (using her Rashi + nakshatra + pada)
  3. Read the score at intersection

Example scores from class:

Bridegroom Bride Score
Hasta Ardra 24
Anuradha Jeshtha (not given)
Punarvasu 4th pada Pushya 35
Teacher (Purva Phalguni 3rd pada) Teacher's wife (Mrigashira 2nd pada) 29

Scores and Interpretation

Score Range Interpretation
Below 18 Generally not recommended; require careful horoscope analysis before proceeding
18+ Acceptable — consider marriage
25+ Good match
30+ Very good match
Maximum = 36 Perfect (same nakshatra = 28 typically, since Nadi Kuta fails)

[!NOTE] When both partners have the same nakshatra, score = typically 28 (not 36), because Eka Nadi (same Nadi) is a failing point — both must not be in the same Nadi. So perfect 36 is rare with same-nakshatra pairs.

Gana Classification

Nakshatras are grouped into three Ganas (types of temperament/intelligence):

Gana Type Nature
Deva (Divine) Godly group Sattvic, spiritual, noble temperament
Manushya (Human) Human group Rajasic, balanced, worldly
Rakshasa (Demonic) Demon group More assertive, forceful, dominant

Compatibility rules:

Combination Result
Same Gana (Eka Ganam) Auspicious — ideal
Deva + Manushya Acceptable — medium (Madhyama)
Deva + Rakshasa Enmity (Vaira) — stalemate in fighting; not good but manageable
Manushya + Rakshasa Maranam (most dangerous) — Rakshasa domination over Human can cause suffering like death; should not marry

[!WARNING] A Rakshasa Gana person does not literally mean "demon." It means that person's temperament is more dominant, forceful, and assertive. In a Manushya-Rakshasa pairing, the Manushya partner may suffer significantly. The teacher emphasizes: Manuṣya Rākṣasayo Vivāha Nakāryaḥ — such marriages should not be done.

Varna-Specific Priority Kutas

The Kuta that matters most varies by the Varna (nature) of the couple:

Varna Primary Kuta Rationale
Brahmin Graha Maitri (Lord-friendship Kuta) Brahmins seek knowledge and moksha; intellectual/spiritual compatibility is primary
Kshatriya Gana Kuta Warriors/rulers need to assess dominance dynamics; who will control whom
Vaishya Rashi Kuta or Tri Deerga Merchants focus on prosperity; Rashi compatibility = shared financial fortune
Shudra Yoni Kuta Physical/sensory compatibility is primary

[!IMPORTANT] Varna is not birth-based. It is based on nature (Guna) and work (Karma):

  • Interested in knowledge and moksha → Brahmin
  • Interested in controlling others, authority, influence → Kshatriya
  • Interested in money and profits → Vaishya
  • Interested in sensory pleasures → Shudra When a person is young and nature is undeveloped, father's Varna is used as a proxy.

Graha Maitri (for Brahmins): Check if the lords of both Moon signs are friends (Mitra). Example: Taurus Moon (lord Venus) + Aquarius Moon (lord Saturn) — Venus and Saturn are friends → Graha Maitri satisfied.

Other Kutas (brief notes)

Kuta What It Checks
Yoni Kuta Animal symbol of nakshatra — sexual/physical compatibility; snake ≠ mongoose; deer ≠ lion
Rashi Kuta Moon sign mutual relationship
Vedha Obstruction check between nakshatra pairs
Rajju Marriage longevity / endurance
Varna Caste/nature compatibility
Nadi Energy-pulse type: Adi (Vata), Madhya (Pitta), Ancha (Kapha); Eka Nadi is bad (same Nadi = not good; both must be in different Nadi groups)
