🔄 Clarification: Sudarshana Chakra Antardasha Method

A student asked for clarification on the Antardasha counting method introduced in Class 87.

Summary of the Method

"In the Dasha Pravesh Chakra, see where Lagna, Moon and Sun are, and take those as the reference. For that one year, that becomes the chart basically. Just like the natal chart was the controller for finding the Maha Dashas, the Dasha Pravesh Chakra becomes the controlling chart for the further division within that particular year."

Step-by-step:

1. Cast the Dasha Pravesh Chakra = the entry chart for the year (the person's birthday chart for that year, timed to the Sun's return to its natal degree in the relevant divisional chart).
2. Note the actual Lagna, Moon, and Sun in this entry chart. These are the three seeds.
3. For Antardasha N: take the N-th house from each seed sign. Those three signs are the Antardasha references.
4. Cast the Antardasha Pravesh Chakra at the start time of that Antardasha.
5. Judge from those three reference signs, using the same criteria (own sign, exaltation, good yogas, Ashtakavarga).
6. For Pratyantar Dasha: in the Antardasha Pravesh Chakra, note its actual Lagna, Moon, Sun as new seeds. Take the N-th house from those for the Pratyantar.

Why This Works Better

The standard approach uses the Dasha sign itself to calculate Antardashas. This causes Mahadasha and Pratyantaradasha to yield identical readings — clearly wrong. PVR found that deriving sub-period seeds from the actual luminaries in each level's entry chart "gave far more consistent results for monthly and two-and-a-half day divisions."

[!NOTE] This Antardasha calculation approach is not explicitly stated by Parashara, but PVR derives it as the most logical extension of what Parashara did say (which was somewhat vague on Antardasha computation). It worked in 90% of test cases.

Can SCD Be Used for All Divisional Charts?

"This can be used in D10, D24, D20, in various divisional charts. We don't necessarily have to do this in D1. As a matter of fact, we haven't seen any examples of D1."

The SCD technique is particularly powerful in divisional charts. Use D10 for career, D24 for education, D7 for children, D9 for marriage, D20 for spirituality, etc.

SCD vs Chara Dasha vs Vimshottari

"Every dasha shows different trends at different phases in life. Parashara said, 'In Kali Yuga, human beings, when they balance so many contradictory factors, they will find it very difficult. Even Jupiter himself, Brihaspati, will find it very difficult. So what to speak of the intellect of Kali Yuga?' He said, 'For them, I'll give a very simple technique.' And then he gave this."

⚖️ Adding Ashtakavarga to Sudarshana Chakra Dasha

Parashara explicitly recommends combining Ashtakavarga with Sudarshana Chakra Dasha for "unbeatable" results.

How Ashtakavarga Integrates with SCD

In the Dasha Pravesh Chakra (or Antardasha/Pratyantar Pravesh Chakra), check each planet's position relative to the progressed Lagna, Moon, and Sun. Use the Ashtakavarga table (computed from the natal chart) to determine whether a planet is benefic or malefic from those reference points.

Key principle: In Ashtakavarga:

• The table shows, for each sign, which planets are benefic in that sign relative to each reference.
• For Sudarshana Chakra, use the progressed Lagna, Moon, Sun as the references — not their natal positions.
• A planet benefic in a house from its reference = it reinforces good results for that house.
• A planet malefic in a house = it undermines results, even if otherwise well-placed.

Priority Rules for Judging a House

When evaluating a house in the Dasha/Antardasha Pravesh Chakra:

"Unless the lord is really powerful, either positively or negatively, that he 'kings the city,' give occupants first, then aspectors, finally lord."

Ashtakavarga Hierarchy

1. First check: Is a planet exalted, in Moola Trikona, or in own sign? → This "trumps" Ashtakavarga.
2. Second check: If a planet is in a friendly sign (Mitra or Adhimitra Rashi), also check Ashtakavarga. Both must be good.
3. Third check: Ashtakavarga used as additional reinforcement ("icing on the cake").

"When a planet is exalted or in Moola Trikona or own sign, that really trumps. Whereas if a planet is just in a friendly sign or Adhimitra Rashi, then you also insist on good score in Ashtakavarga."

Karaka-Specific Ashtakavarga

For specific areas of life, the relevant Karaka's Ashtakavarga position becomes most important:

• Marriage: Venus must be benefic in Ashtakavarga from Venus
• Children/Intelligence: Jupiter must be benefic from Jupiter
• Education/Communication: Mercury must be benefic from Mercury
• Career recognition: Sun must be benefic from Sun

⚙️ jHora Settings for Ashtakavarga Reference Reversal

[!IMPORTANT] jHora Ashtakavarga viewing shortcut:

Go to Alt+PCV (Preferences → Calculations → Ashtakavarga Calculation Options). Check the first checkbox: "Reverse the Ashtakavarga meaning as far as references are concerned."

Default (unchecked): The count in a sign in the PAV shows the number of references from which the planet is benefic in that sign. E.g., Jupiter in Aries shows "6" means from 6 of 8 references, Jupiter transiting Aries is benefic.

Reversed (checked): The count shows the number of planets that are benefic from the reference planet in that sign. E.g., from natal Sun in Pisces, "PAV of Sun" in Aries shows which planets are benefic from Sun when those planets are in Aries.

Use case for SCD: When checking "from progressed Lagna, is Jupiter benefic in the 9th house?", select PAV of Lagna with reversed option. This shows, from Lagna, which planets are benefic in each house.

Remember to uncheck the reversed option after use — it is not the normal mode.

🎓 Example 1: Academic Distinction — State First, 1987 (D24)

Event: May 28, 1987 — Stood first in the state in 12th grade; selected to IIT Madras for BTech program. PVR's birth data (for reference): April 4, 1970, 5:47:45 PM IST, Machilipatnam, India (81°08′E, 16°10′N). Using jHora 7.52 beta.

D24 natal: Lagna = Gemini, Moon = Cancer, Sun = Scorpio. Dashas start from Gemini, Cancer, Scorpio respectively.

Dasha Pravesh Chakra: 1987 (Scorpio–Sagittarius–Aries Dasha)

The third Dasha sign set for 1987 is Scorpio (from Gemini progression), Sagittarius (from Cancer), Aries (from Scorpio).

Common: 5th house and Lagna showing strength from 2–3 references. 4th house (education) has exalted planet. → Academic achievement expected this year.

Antardasha Pravesh Chakra: May 5 – June 6, 1987 (2nd Antardasha)

Seeds from Dasha Pravesh: Lagna = Virgo, Moon = Scorpio, Sun = Sagittarius. 2nd house from these = Libra, Capricorn, Sagittarius.

"When you see from all the three references that the 5th house and Lagna are both consistently having Raja Yogas — this shows academic distinction during this month."

Pratyantar Dasha: May 26–29, 1987 (9th Pratyantar)

Seeds from Antardasha Pravesh: Lagna = Scorpio, Moon = Leo, Sun = Sagittarius. 9th from each = Cancer, Aries, Leo.

• 3rd house (communication, news) is strong from all three → The news of the achievement reached him and community congratulated him.
• 10th house (activity, meeting people in society) strong from all three → Many people came and congratulated him that evening (unusual for him — "normally I meet five or six people in the whole summer").
• 5th house less powerfully shown in this two-and-a-half-day window.

[!NOTE] The academic success (fifth house) shows best in the annual chart, and reasonably well in the monthly Antardasha. The two-and-a-half day Pratyantar Dasha shows primarily the communication/news aspect (3rd house) and public activity (10th house) rather than the academic achievement itself — because those 2.5 days were the time of receiving news and being congratulated, not the long-term achievement.

💼 Example 2: Job Layoff — August 2002 (D10)

Event: August 12, 2002 — Laid off from startup; first layoff; found a new job within a month.

SCD D10 Dasha for 2002: Taurus–Cancer–Capricorn

Dasha Pravesh Chakra Analysis

Common: Guru Chandala Yoga directly connected to 6th and 10th houses from all three references → Career disruption expected this year.

Safeguards against complete ruin:

• From Sun: Mercury (6th lord of service) in own sign, well-placed → "There is some livelihood; sixth house is not completely ruined."
• From Taurus: 6th lord Venus in 3rd house, benefic in Ashtakavarga → sixth house lord is well-placed.
• "Within a few weeks I found a job. Things slowed down but didn't completely stop."

[!IMPORTANT] Guru Chandala Yoga (Jupiter + Rahu together) is the key bad combination in SCD analysis. When it connects to the 6th, 8th, 10th, or 12th houses from multiple references in the Dasha Pravesh Chakra, expect setbacks in the area governed by those houses in that divisional chart.

👶 Example 3: Son's Birth — August 21, 1998 (D7)

Event: August 21, 1998, ~11:30 AM US time (~22:00 IST same date) — son born.

SCD D7 Dasha for 1998 (April 5, 1998 start): Libra–Sagittarius–Taurus

Dasha Pravesh Chakra Analysis

From Lagna and Sun: extremely powerful 5th house combinations. From Moon: strong Lagna but 5th house less powerful.

"When two references are together [Lagna and Sun both in Capricorn in the Dasha Pravesh Chakra], you can give a lot of importance to that and even ignore the third reference." → Two powerful references agreeing = reliable prediction.

Antardasha Pravesh Chakra: August 8–September 8, 1998 (5th Antardasha)

Seeds from Dasha Pravesh: Lagna in Capricorn (= Sun also), Moon in Sagittarius. 5th house from Capricorn = Taurus. 5th from Sagittarius = Aries.

From Taurus (prog. Lagna & Sun):

• Lagna: 9th lord (Mercury) + 5th lord (Saturn) + 4th lord (Venus) + 10th lord → multiple Raja Yogas in Lagna of entry chart
• Lagna lord Venus in 9th house (benefic in Ashtakavarga from Lagna)
• Mercury (5th lord) and Saturn (exalted, benefic) well-placed
• "Ninth lord in lagna, lagna lord in ninth house, and also fifth lord in lagna — this is an awesome combination."

From Aries (prog. Moon):

• 5th and 10th/11th lords together in 9th house (with Raja Yoga)
• Jupiter (Lagna lord) aspecting Lagna; Mars and Jupiter benefic in Ashtakavarga
• Note: Jupiter + Rahu present (Guru Chandala) but contextually tolerable

"Two of the three references are really powerful → high probability of childbirth this year."

Pratyantar Dasha: ~August 21, 1998 (6th Pratyantar)

Seeds from Antardasha Pravesh: Lagna = Pisces, Sun = Taurus, Moon = Scorpio. 6th from these = Leo, Libra, Aries.

• From Leo: Lagna lord + 9th lord Mars = Raja Yoga
• From Libra (Taurus 6th): 5th lord in 9th; 6th house aspected by own lord + exalted planet
• From Aries (Scorpio 6th): 5th lord in 5th house; Lagna lord + 5th lord in Samasaptaka

[!NOTE] The Pratyantar Dasha shows some good combinations, but less clearly than the annual or monthly level. PVR explains this is typical: "Long-term events take up mind-consciousness over longer periods; during just 2.5 days, practical concerns (going to the hospital, puja timing) fill the consciousness. The Pratyantar Dasha would show those specific practical concerns of that brief window better."

His personal anecdote: "I had an intuition to do the Lakshmi Puja in the morning instead of evening. I finished at 6 AM. By 8 AM my wife said we need to go to the doctor. At 11:30 AM my son was born."

🕐 Key Principle: Temporal Resolution of SCD

The teacher articulates a fundamental principle about how SCD resolution maps to consciousness:

"The annual chart shows events best. The Antardasha (monthly) chart shows even better. But in the Pratyantar Dasha chart it may not be shown that well — unless there is something specific to a 2.5-day period or five-hour period."

"If you look at a two-and-a-half-day period where someone is driving, that will really stand out there. But marriage, childbirth — those fill the monthly and annual charts more powerfully."

This establishes that SCD is the "forest view" — identifying whether a period is good or bad overall for an area of life — while other techniques (Vimshottari, annual chart, Tajika) are the "tree view" for specific event timing.
