🔔 Opening & Context

BPHS Chapter 34, verse 29. This class covers Leo through Scorpio. The pattern: Parashara gives 4–5 verses per lagna, listing malefics, benefics, yogakarakas, and Marakas — with specific yogas that do not work for each lagna.

Additional mantra added to opening: Om Ghni Sūryaḥ Āditya Hūm (×3)

🦁 Leo Lagna (Simha) — Verses 29–32

"Saumya Śhukrakārajāḥ pāpāḥ Kujedyārkah śhubhāvah. Prabhaved yogamātrena na śhubham Guru Śhukrayoḥ."

Planet Assignments

Planet Houses Owned Classification Reason
Mercury 2nd + 11th Malefic 11th = trishadaya (clear malefic); 2nd = Maraka
Venus 3rd + 10th Malefic 3rd = trishadaya; 10th ownership for benefic = neutral at best
Saturn 6th + 7th Malefic 6th = trishadaya (clear malefic); natural malefic in 6th = amplified
Mars 4th + 9th Benefic 9th = trikona; 4th = kendra (not malefic for malefics)
Sun 1st Benefic Lagna lord = trikona lord
Jupiter 5th + 8th Benefic (conditional) 5th = trikona; 8th = contextual — see associations
Moon 12th Contextual Sahacharyam-dependent; neither clear benefic nor malefic

"Prabhaved yogamātrena na śhubham Guru Śhukrayoḥ" — Even if Jupiter and Venus are in yoga (together), it will NOT give auspicious results.

Why Jupiter-Venus yoga fails for Leo:

  • Jupiter (5th+8th): benefic but uncertain due to 8th lordship
  • Venus: clear functional malefic (3rd lord)
  • Enemies of each other (Jupiter and Venus are natural enemies)
  • A yoga between an uncertain benefic and a clear malefic is not a Raja Yoga

Jupiter for Leo (5th + 8th):

  • 5th lord = clear benefic direction
  • 8th lord = contextual (see sahacharya)
  • Jupiter is karaka for neither the 5th nor 8th explicitly, but as a natural benefic, his 5th lordship dominates unless heavily afflicted

Moon for Leo: Moon owns the 12th house only. As 12th lord, strictly by sahacharyam — who he is with determines whether he is benefic or malefic. Parashara does not give a static classification.

♍ Virgo Lagna (Kanya) — Verses 33–36

"Kujajīveendavah pāpāḥ Budha Śhukrau śhubhāvah. Bhārgavendrasutā eva bhavetām yogakārakau."

Planet Assignments

Planet Houses Owned Classification Reason
Mars 3rd + 8th Malefic 3rd = trishadaya; 8th = contextual → net malefic (3rd dominates)
Jupiter 4th + 7th Malefic Owns two kendras (no trikona) → strong kendrādhipatya dosha for natural benefic
Moon 11th Worst Malefic Clear trishadaya lord
Mercury 1st + 10th Benefic Lagna lord + kendra lord; net benefic
Venus 2nd + 9th Benefic 9th = trikona; 2nd = contextual but with trikona, net benefic
Saturn 5th + 6th Neutral Not mentioned as benefic or malefic — 5th (benefic) + 6th (malefic) = neutral

"Bhārgavendrasutā eva bhavetām yogakārakau" — Venus and Mercury exclusively become the yogakarakas. No other combination qualifies.

Malefic Hierarchy for Virgo:

Moon (11th) > Mars (3rd+8th) > Jupiter (4th+7th)

[!NOTE] Saturn (5th + 6th) is explicitly neutral — he was not listed in either the benefic or malefic group. Fifth lord + sixth lord balance perfectly to neutral.

Mars for Virgo — Contextual nuance:

  • As 3rd lord: gives difficulty, forces the native to work hard
  • As 8th lord: can give sudden breaks/gains IF associated with benefics

Example: In the teacher's own chart (Virgo lagna), Mars is in the 8th house with Mercury (Lagna lord), Venus (9th lord), and Saturn (5th lord) — all three trikona lords. Mars acts more as 8th lord here, giving easy results, making him less malefic.

The Moon-Mercury Yogakaraka: Moon is the 11th lord (malefic). Mercury is Lagna+10th lord (benefic). But in combination, as the 9th and 10th lords for the annual chart or some Antardashas, they can form a Rajayoga. Parashara specifically restricts the valid yogakaraka to Venus-Mercury only (Bhārgava + Indu-suta).

[!TIP] "Sun gives results by sahacharyam" — For Virgo lagna, Sun is the 12th lord. Neither a second house nor an eighth house, so purely contextual by association.

⚖️ Libra Lagna (Tula) — Verses 37–40

"Jīva arkabhūsutaḥ pāpāḥ śhanaishchara budhau śhubhau. Bhavetām rājayogasya kārako chandratatsutau."

Planet Assignments

Planet Houses Owned Classification Reason
Jupiter 3rd + 6th Worst Malefic Owns both trishadaya houses — clear functional malefic
Sun 11th Malefic Clear trishadaya lord
Mars 2nd + 7th Malefic (borderline) 7th = Maraka; 2nd = contextual → borderline malefic/Maraka
Saturn 4th + 5th Benefic 4th = kendra (not malefic for malefics); 5th = trikona
Mercury 9th + 12th Benefic 9th = trikona; 12th = contextual → net benefic (9th dominates)
Moon 10th Neutral Kendra lord — neither clearly benefic nor malefic
Venus 1st + 8th Neutral Lagna lord (benefic) + 8th lord (contextual) → neutral overall

Moon-Mercury Yogakaraka:

"Bhavetām rājayogasya kārako chandratatsutau" — Moon (10th lord) and Mercury (9th lord) become yogakarakas.

  • Moon: kendra lord (neutral for benefic planet, but not clearly malefic)
  • Mercury: trikona lord (9th = clear benefic)
  • Together = kendra + trikona lord yoga → valid Rajayoga

Mars as Maraka for Libra: Mars owns 2nd and 7th — both Maraka houses. He is a clear killer (Sākshat Nihanta quality).

"Kujonihantiḥ" — Mars kills.

Jupiter and Sun: Both listed as malefics because they own trishadaya houses (3rd+6th and 11th respectively). Any association with the 2nd/7th makes them potential killers.

Venus for Libra: He owns Lagna (benefic) + 8th (contextual). Net = neutral. He's samāh (equal/balanced).

Mercury caveat: As 12th lord, Mercury's beneficence can be moderated. If with malefics (like Saturn in the natal chart), he may become less benefic. If with benefics, more benefic.

🦂 Scorpio Lagna (Vrishchika) — Verses 41–44

"Śhītagñakānayaḥ pāpāḥ śhubhou guru niśhākarau. Suryacandramasākau eva bhavetām yogakārakau."

Planet Assignments

Planet Houses Owned Classification Reason
Venus 7th + 12th Malefic 7th = Maraka; 12th = neutral → net malefic
Mercury 8th + 11th Malefic 11th = trishadaya (clear); 8th = contextual → net malefic
Saturn 3rd + 4th Malefic 3rd = trishadaya; 4th = neutral → net malefic
Jupiter 2nd + 5th Benefic 5th = trikona (strong); 2nd = contextual → net benefic
Moon 9th Benefic Clear trikona lord
Sun 10th Neutral/Yogakaraka Kendra lord — not clearly malefic; capable of yoga
Mars 1st + 6th Neutral Lagna = trikona (clear benefic); 6th = trishadaya → balance = neutral

Sun-Moon Yogakaraka:

"Suryacandramasākau eva bhavetām yogakārakau" — Sun and Moon only become yogakarakas.

  • Moon: 9th lord (trikona) = clear benefic
  • Sun: 10th lord (kendra) = neutral but capable of yoga for Scorpio
  • Together = trikona + kendra = valid Rajayoga

Jupiter for Scorpio:

  • 5th lord: strong trikona lord
  • 2nd lord: contextual — by associations
  • Net = benefic, but less certain than Moon
  • If Jupiter is heavily afflicted and acts more as 2nd lord (Maraka), his beneficence can reduce

Venus as Maraka for Scorpio: Venus owns 7th house (Maraka). Additionally, any functional malefics (Mercury, Saturn, Venus) associating with the 2nd or 7th become killers.

[!NOTE] Mars (Lagna + 6th) = neutral because Lagna is trikona and 6th is trishadaya — perfectly balanced. This is the only lagna where the Lagna lord is classified as neutral rather than benefic due to the trishadaya co-ownership.

🧠 Key Interpretive Principles Emerging

graph TD
    A[Planet Owns House] --> B{House Type}
    B -->|Trikona 1,5,9| C[Auspicious — gives easily]
    B -->|Trishadaya 3,6,11| D[Malefic — forces effort/struggle]
    B -->|Kendra 4,7,10| E[Neutral — effort without blessing]
    B -->|2nd/8th/12th| F[Contextual — see sahacharyam + other house]
    E --> G{Planet Nature}
    G -->|Natural Benefic + Kendra| H[Kendrādhipatya Dosha — reduced beneficence]
    G -->|Natural Malefic + Kendra| I[Not necessarily malefic]

Cross-lagna pattern for Maraka planets:

Lagna Clear Maraka
Aries Venus (2nd+7th)
Taurus Mars (7th lord)
Gemini Moon (2nd lord)
Cancer Moon (2nd lord)
Leo Mercury (2nd), Saturn (7th) by association
Virgo Jupiter (7th lord by association)
Libra Mars (2nd+7th)
Scorpio Venus (7th lord)

[!IMPORTANT] Functional benefics are NOT immune from being Marakas. Any planet owning or associating with the 2nd/7th houses/lords can kill. Parashara uses functional papa/shubha for this analysis — not natural krura/somya.

💼 Chart Reading 1 — Job Loss Risk Assessment

Birth Data: August 31, 1953, 4:04:20 AM IST, Visakhapatnam, India (male) Situation: Concerned about layoffs at company; asking about next 1–2 years for job security Current Dasha: Saturn Mahadasha / Mercury Antardasha

D-10 (Dashamsa) Analysis

Lagna: Virgo

Factor Status
Saturn (5th+6th lord) Neutral; exalted; in 1st house with Mercury (Lagna+10th lord)
Mercury Antardasha Lagna lord + 10th lord in 1st house → recognition; unlikely to lose job
From AL (Arudha Lagna) Both planets in 12th → some status fall possible, but not job loss
From A8N Both in 1st house → benefic from career protection standpoint

Mercury Antardasha conclusion: Very unlikely to lose job. May even bring recognition.

Next: Saturn-Ketu Antardasha (from ~May)

Ketu's profile in D-10:

  • 3rd lord (trishadaya) = malefic
  • With 7th lord (break-in-service indicator)
  • Jupiter (malefic for Virgo) is conjunct Ketu

→ Risk of break in service or thoughts of self-employment in Ketu period.

Annual Tithi Pravesh Charts

2010 Chart:

  • Lagna: Pisces; Moon in lagna
  • Year ruler Mars: exalted 9th lord in 11th house → good fortune
  • Saturn in 6th house: malefic placed for overcoming obstacles
  • Sun in 10th (friendly sign): good books of authorities, career smooth

2011 Chart (risk period identified):

  • Year ruler: Sun
  • Venus (3rd+8th lord) + Jupiter in 7th house
  • From 6th house as Lagna: Venus = 3rd lord in 2nd house (debilitated Maraka); Jupiter = 8th lord Maraka combination; Sun = Lagna lord with Marakas
  • Rahu: 7th lord in 8th from 6th house → Maraka for service
  • Jupiter Antardasha (Aug–Oct 2011) and Rahu Antardasha (Oct–Dec 2011) are problematic
timeline
    title Job Security Timeline
    2010-Nov : Mercury AD begins — Safe; Lagna+10th lord in 1st (D-10)
    2011-May : Ketu AD begins — Risk starts; 3rd lord + 7th lord
    2011-Aug : Jupiter AD (annual) — High risk window
    2011-Oct : Rahu AD (annual) — High risk window continues
    2012-Feb : Moon AD — Relief; risk reduces

[!WARNING] August 21, 2011 to February 28, 2012 = High-risk window for job stability. Based on Vimshottari + Tithi Pravesh convergence. Conscious effort to secure position before August 2011 is advised.

Remedies:

  • Primary: Worship Moon (Amatya Karaka = Rahu → count back = Cancer → lord Moon)
  • Secondary: Vishnu Sahasranamam (Saturn Dasha running; Mercury = Lagna+10th lord in D-10)
  • Forms: Lalita, Gauri, Parvati (Moon = satvic Divine Mother)

🌏 Chart Reading 2 — UK or India? Career & Relocation

Birth Data: October 28, 1969, 6:12 AM IST, Vijayawada, India (male, "Kumar") Situation: Unstable career in UK; jobless since Sept 2009; considering returning to India Current Dasha: Jupiter Mahadasha / Venus Antardasha

Career Outlook — Jupiter Dasha Assessment

D-10 (Dashamsa) — Lagna: Aquarius (Kumbha)

Planet D-10 Status Assessment
Jupiter (MD) Debilitated; malefic for Kumbha lagna Not a smooth career Dasha
Venus (AD) Yogakaraka (5th lord exalted); but Badhaka lord in 10th Mixed — Yogakaraka but Badhaka
Sun (upcoming AD) 7th lord in Mangalarka sthana (debilitated sign) Worse than Venus
Saturn (Yogakaraka for Kumbha) Lagna lord in 7th house Better period when Saturn Dasha comes

[!IMPORTANT] Jupiter is a functional malefic for Kumbha lagna. The person's career struggles are structurally indicated by Jupiter Dasha — not exceptional bad luck. This was noted and communicated to the native years prior.

Root cause of instability: Jupiter (malefic) + Venus (Badhaka though Yogakaraka) in 12th house in the natal chart in Parivartana — the native's career ambitions consistently exceeded what the Dasha could deliver.

D-4 (Chaturthamsa) — Residence Chart

  • Jupiter: 12th lord aspecting 12th house → being abroad
  • Venus: 5th lord (repatriation indicator) + exalted → capable of triggering return to motherland

For D-4: Fifth house from lagna = motherland link. Venus as 5th lord = repatriation possible in Venus Antardasha.

Relocation Recommendation

flowchart LR
    A[Current: Jupiter MD / Venus AD] --> B[D-4: Venus = 5th lord exalted]
    B --> C[Repatriation indicator active]
    C --> D[Return to India possible NOW]
    D --> E[Saturn MD from 2018 = business success]
    E --> F[Build base in India before 2018]
    G[Risk: Mars/Rahu Antardashas 2015-17] --> H[Possible instability / return abroad]
    H --> I[Saturn MD anchor should stabilize]

Recommendation: Return to India before March 2013.

  • Saturn Dasha (from 2018) shows potential for business success (Lagna lord in 7th → self-employment)
  • After 2018, being in India positions him for Saturn's Yogakaraka potential
  • Selling Indian assets to sustain UK lifestyle is not advisable — reduces future base

Current Year (2010) Job Search Window:

  • Best period: Now through January 31, 2011
  • Saturn (Yogakaraka, exalted, in 12th house) aspects 6th house of service → can give a job abroad
  • Mercury Dasha in annual chart is conducive

[!TIP] For the relocation chart (D-4), check: 5th house (motherland) and 12th house (foreign land). Strong 5th lord suggests return to motherland; strong 12th lord suggests staying abroad. Multiple Antardashas (Mars, Rahu) show some instability in 2015–17, but Saturn Dasha overall points toward India as the better long-term base.
