🌌 1. Astronomical Digression — Why Lagna Duration Varies {#astronomical}

[!NOTE] This tangent arose from a student's observation that Scorpio lagna lasts 2h 26m, Capricorn only 1h 29m, Aquarius 1h 10m.

Root cause: Earth's axial tilt.

• If Earth's rotation axis were perpendicular to the Sun-Earth plane, all signs would rise in equal time (~2 hours).
• Because Earth is tilted, the rising tangent sweeps the zodiac at unequal speeds — faster when the rotational axis faces toward the zodiac plane, slower when perpendicular to it.
• In Boston, winter days can be 8 hours and nights 16 hours — so lagna covers 180° of zodiac in only 8 hours (fast) vs. 16 hours (slow). This non-uniformity is what creates unequal lagna durations.

[!TIP] The exact definition of lagna involves projecting the intersection of the Earth's local horizon with the ecliptic plane — a non-trivial 3D geometry problem because the Moon (and other planets) have their own orbital plane slightly tilted from the ecliptic.

[!IMPORTANT] The chart's promise sets the ceiling and floor. A dasha merely moves results within that range — it cannot give what the natal chart does not promise.

Vimshottari Dasha variation:

• Use a three-part rule (not four), dividing into first 3, middle 3, and last 3 antardashas (not equal time).
• Benefic planet: 1st third = occupied/owned houses; 2nd = yogas; 3rd = state.

🌌 3. Navamsa Narayana Dasha — Marriage Timing (Case Study) {#navamsa-marriage}

Chart: Sep 12, 1971, 8:25 AM IST, Guntur, India (80°23'E, 16°13'N).

Task: Verify that Libra Mahadasha (Sep 1992 – Sep 1994) in Navamsa Narayana Dasha gave marriage.

Why Libra Was a Strong Marriage Candidate

Strong candidates: Libra and Sagittarius. Sagittarius arrives at age 41 — too late for a traditional Indian woman. Hence Libra is the active prediction.

Applying the Three-Parts Rule to Libra Dasha

Pinpointing with the Four-Part Sub-Rule (Jupiter's portion)

Jupiter = natural benefic → order: occupied house → owned houses → yogas → avastha.

Verdict confirmed: She married during Jul–Sep 1993 (Jupiter's second quarter of his 1/3, when he gives ownership results = Upapada lordship).

🌌 4. Marriage Definition & Upapada Rules {#marriage-definition}

[!IMPORTANT] Upapada Lagna (UL) = Arudha of the 12th house = dharmic give-and-take of marriage. Darapada = Arudha of the 7th house = physical/desire aspect. Darakaraka = planet with lowest longitude = significator of spouse at soul level.

Marriage = confluence of three factors:

Sanjay Rath's definition: If two people stay together for at least one year without thinking of another person — that is marriage (regardless of legal ceremony).

Multiple Marriages:

• 1st marriage: Upapada Lagna
• 2nd marriage: 8th from Upapada Lagna
• 3rd marriage: 8th from that, and so on (up to 12 in theory)

[!WARNING] In modern times (Kali Yuga), missing an early serious relationship will shift all Upapada counts — making what the astrologer thinks is the "first marriage" actually the second. Always probe for serious prior relationships.

Ketu's special nature for marriage:

Remedy for delayed marriage: Fast on the weekday of the Upapada lord, and before breaking the fast, pray to the deity of the 2nd lord from Upapada Lagna (the planet that "brings" the marriage).

🌌 5. Dasamsa Narayana Dasha — Career Timing (Case Study) {#dasamsa-career}

How to find Dasamsa Narayana Dasha: Take the 10th lord in the Rashi chart; find where he is in the Dasamsa; take that sign as Lagna and apply standard Narayana Dasha rules.

"In the Rashi chart, Narayana lives in your physical existence. In Dasamsa, Narayana lives in the work you do in that professional environment — i.e., the 10th house."

[!NOTE] Moon + Mercury = Dharma-Karma Adhipati Yoga in Lagna (9th lord + 10th lord). A great Raja Yoga. When they give results in the last 1/3 of Aquarius Dasha, career peaks.

Purpose: Shows how your relationship with parents progresses — not what happens to parents independently.

How to find: Take the 12th lord in the Rashi chart; see where he is in the Dwaadashamsha (D12); take that sign as Lagna; apply standard Narayana Dasha rules.

"The 12th house is give-and-take, compromise. This dasha shows how you are compromising with your parents — i.e., the quality of the relationship over time."

Case: Wife's D12 (same chart):

[!WARNING] When sign = 8th house (Taurus here), the dasha brings anxiety about parents, not necessarily quarrels. A parent's health may deteriorate.

🌌 8. Seeing Father/Mother Specifically via D12 {#father-mother-d12}

Mother: Take 4th house as her lagna; find stronger of 4th/10th sign in D12; set that as starting sign; find D12 Narayana Dasha.

Father: Take 9th house as his lagna; find stronger of 9th/3rd sign in D12; set that as starting sign; find D12 Narayana Dasha.

[!TIP] In JHora: Narayana Dasha → Options → "Start Dashas from" → select Capricorn (mother) or Gemini (father) instead of "Use the default."

Navamsa — Seeing Husband's Fortune

Take the 7th house in Navamsa as lagna (or stronger of 7th / 1st). Apply standard Narayana Dasha rules treating this chart as a Rashi chart.

Leo Dasha example (7th-house Aries lagna in Navamsa):

Saptamsa — Seeing a Child's Fortune

• Use Paksha Narayana Dasha (count from lord to sign, not sign to lord — reverse of normal).
• Take the lord of the child's house (5th = 1st child, 7th from 5th = 2nd child) as lagna in D7.
• Find the stronger of that sign and its opposite; apply Paksha Narayana Dasha.

[!WARNING] Paksha Narayana Dasha is used only for Drekkana and Saptamsa (siblings and children). Always switch back to Normal Narayana Dasha for all other charts.

[!TIP] Nimittas (signs/omens) are spontaneous signals from the divine confirming or correcting predictions:

"If it happens by itself, without your manipulation, that means God is telling you, 'Yes, you are thinking in the right line.'"

[!WARNING] Do not arrange a Nimitta deliberately — it will not work. The sign must arise spontaneously.

• Darakaraka (DK) = planet with the lowest longitude among 7 planets — karaka for spouse/partner
