📖 BPHS Shloka Study: 10th Lord in Houses 1–6

Source: Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, Ch. 24 (Santanam Western), verses 109–114 (approx.)

[!NOTE] The 10th house = karma (work), māna (honor in society), and resources needed to fulfill one's life purpose. Its lord placed in any house directs the person's actions, reputation, and professional energies toward that house's significations.

Verse 109 — 10th Lord in Lagna (Karmeśe Lagnagate)

Karmeśe lagnage jātaḥ vidvān khyāto dhanī kaviḥ. Bālye rogī sukhī paścād dhana vṛddhir dine dine.

Result Reason
Learned, scholar (vidvān) From 5th house: 10th lord is 6th (obstacle-solver) → puts scholarship to active use in society
Famous (khyātaḥ) 10th lord in Lagna — fame and basic personality fused; 5th + Lagna = fame indicators
Wealthy (dhanī) 10th lord protects wealth resources; from 2nd house, 9th lord in Lagna = brilliant
Poet / person who lives their work (kaviḥ) 10th lord's Argala on 3rd house (creativity, communication) — personality is the work
Sick in childhood (bālye rogī) From 2nd house, 9th lord of protection in 12th (loss)
Happy and prosperous later Viparīta effect after childhood difficulties
Daily growth of wealth From 11th house: 12th lord in 3rd → Viparīta yoga — setbacks eventually resolve favorably

[!TIP] "Poet" here is a generalization for anyone whose very personality is inseparable from their work — who lives and breathes their profession. The 10th lord in Lagna makes the work part of the self.

Verse 110 — 10th Lord in 2nd House (Karmeśe Dhanabhāvasthe)

[Dhanavān, guṇasamyutaḥ, rājamānyaḥ, vadānyasya, pitrādi sukha sampannaḥ]

Result Reason
Wealthy (dhanavān) From 2nd: 9th lord in Lagna = best placement for wealth protection
Good manners, charming (guṇasamyutaḥ) 10th lord (honor in society) in 2nd (speech) → Argala on Lagna; conducts himself with social grace
Respected by kings / powerful people From 10th house: lord in 6th = Purva Punya trine from 10th → excellent honor karma
Charitable, generous (vadānyaḥ) From 12th house (giving): lord in Kāma trikona (2nd) = easy initiative in giving; one Kāma trikona lord in another
Family happiness (pitrādi sukha) From 2nd house: 9th lord of protection in Lagna — family relations excellent; elders take good care

Verse 111 — 10th Lord in 3rd House (Karmeśe Sahajabhāvasthe)

Karmeśe sahaje jātaḥ bhrātṛ bhṛtya sukhānvitaḥ. Vikramī guṇasampannaḥ vāgmī satyarato naraḥ.

Result Reason
Happy with brothers and servants 10th lord (work/honor) in 3rd (siblings) — works with siblings; from 6th: one trine lord in another trine
Brave (vikramī) 10th lord in 3rd: honor depends on taking initiative; goal-driven rather than desire-driven
Virtuous (guṇasampannaḥ) 10th lord aspects 9th house → Karma linked to Dharma
Eloquent (vāgmī) In 3rd (communication); from 2nd: 9th lord in 3rd (bhāvat bhāvam for 2nd) + Argala on 2nd
Truthful (satyarataḥ) 9th house aspected → dharma flows into speech

Verse 112 — 10th Lord in 4th House (Karmeśe Sukhabhāvasthe)

Karmeśe sukha bhāvasthe sukhī mātr hite rataḥ. Yāna bhūmi gṛhādhīśo guṇavān dhanavān api.

Result Reason
Happy (sukhī) Quadrant lord in quadrant + aspects 10th house
Devoted to mother's wellbeing 10th lord's focus/agenda is in 4th (mother, home)
Owner of vehicles, land, houses Lord of action in 4th house of real estate and vehicles
Good qualities (guṇavān) 10th lord (honor) has Argala on Lagna; knows social conduct; a "socialite" type
Wealthy (dhanavān) From 2nd: 9th lord aspects 9th house = very blessed for wealth

Verse 113 — 10th Lord in 5th House (Karmeśe Sutabhāvasthe)

[Sarvajña, sadā harṣitaḥ, dhanavān, putravan]

Result Reason
All-knowing, great education Quadrant lord in trine (5th) — scholarship active and honored
Always cheerful 5th house of emotional stability + Argala on Lagna
Wealthy 10th lord Argala on 2nd; from 2nd, 9th lord in 4th (trine from quadrant)
Children who support him 5th (children) blessed by 10th (karma) — "Sons and Co." — children join his work

Verse 114 — 10th Lord in 6th House (Karmeśe Ripubhāvasthe)

[No happiness from father; clever (catura); not wealthy; troubled by enemies]

Result Reasoning / Notes
No happiness from father From 3rd house (father-interaction house): 8th lord in 4th — setbacks in father relations
Clever in dealing with enemies 6th lord in own 6th = skill in fighting; talent for overcoming obstacles (Harṣa Yoga tendency)
Troubled by enemies 10th lord in 6th → work energy goes into fighting
Not wealthy? Disputed — from 2nd house, 9th lord in 5th (trine-quadrant link) should give wealth. Parāśara may be noting a conditional negative, or there may be a textual error

[!WARNING] The "not wealthy" result appears inconsistent with standard Parāśara analysis. The teacher notes that this may be a textual error or missing word in the BPHS edition being studied (Santanam Western). In general, 10th lord in 6th should not make someone poor unless other afflictions are present.

Rāśi Chart — Key Placements

Planet House Sign Notes
Lagna Sagittarius Hasta 4th pāda, Moon in Virgo
Jupiter (Lagna lord) 11th house Inimical sign Afflicted by Maṇḍi and Gulika but generally favorable Daśā
Mars (5th lord) 9th house With Mercury (10th lord) → Rāja Yoga
Mercury (10th lord) 9th house Rāja Yoga with Mars
Saturn 2nd/3rd lord 5th house Ātmakāraka; has Nīcabhanga
Moon Virgo, 8th from Moon
8th house (from Moon) Saturn Mental tension, unstable mind
12th house (from Moon) Mercury, Mars, Ketu Very populated dusthāna from Moon

Daśā Running

Jupiter Mahādaśā (current) — Lagna lord in 11th, generally good
  └── Mars Antardaśā (current) — 5th + 10th lord Rāja Yoga in 9th; good
└── Rahu Antardaśā (next) — 3rd lord in 3rd; acceptable
Saturn Mahādaśā (begins ~2 years from now)
  — Ātmakāraka Daśā; 2nd/3rd lord; Nīcabhanga; mental tension but manageable

[!NOTE] She has Sāḍe-Sāti (7½-year Saturn transit): Saturn transiting over Virgo Moon from the 12th house currently. Causes mental anxiety, nervousness — explains her tense state. Saturn is not a terrible planet for her (Nīcabhanga), but the transit over Ketu, Mercury, Mars positions adds additional tension.

Caturthāṃśa (D-4) Analysis — Relocation Prognosis

Factor Placement Indicates
Jupiter (current Daśā) 5th house with 5th lord Motherland (5th = belonging) — pull toward India is real
Jupiter Also Bādhaka lord (7th lord for dual sign Lagna) Can also indicate going far away
Mars Antardaśā 8th lord — instability, changes Supports move
Rahu Antardaśā (later) 6th house from Lagna Supports native-country return (6th = own country)
Rahu from Jupiter 2nd house

Will she return to US?

  • No strong combination for returning to US in remaining Jupiter Daśā
  • Rahu (kāraka for foreign residence) not well-positioned for return abroad
  • Conclusion: Very likely to settle in India permanently

[!TIP] When advising: "Go with the intention of settling, not with the fear of coming back." Chart supports settlement.

👶 Children's Analysis via D-7 (Saptāṃśa)

Birth time rectification: Original 1:20 PM → adjusted to 1:19:08 PM (51-second correction)

  • With Gemini Lagna in D-7: Mercury + Saturn in trines (eunuch planets) → may not have children
  • With Taurus Lagna in D-7 (corrected time): Makes sense for two boys

Child Count and Gender

Child D-7 Lagna Lord Sign/Dignity Gender Indicators
1st child Capricorn Saturn Libra — exalted, boy sign All indicators → Boy
2nd child Mars in Capricorn Exalted With Jupiter (debilitated) Mars = boy, Capricorn = girl → Boy (Mars dominates) ✅
3rd child? Ketu presence Break indicated Likely no 3rd child

Both boys confirmed — matches reported reality.

Children's Daśā Prognosis

Period 1st Child Assessment 2nd Child Assessment
Jupiter Daśā 6th lord debilitated → some health issues possible Nothing alarming; mixed
Mars Antardaśā 7th lord exalted → not bad; recovery likely Good (Lagna lord in Lagna from D-7 Capricorn perspective)
Rahu Antardaśā 6th house from 1st child's Lagna 3rd house — good
Saturn Daśā (2012–2031) 4th + 5th lord in Lagna → excellent studies Lagna lord + 2nd lord exalted in 10th → excellent

[!TIP] Children will do well in studies and life during Saturn Mahādaśā (2012–2031). No major concern for either child whether in India or elsewhere.

📅 Annual Chart Analysis (Gudi Padwa)

2009 Gudi Padwa Chart

  • Lagna: Multiple planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury) — exalted Mercury as Lagna lord
  • Sun in 12th → indicates big change/transition
  • Rahu Daśā (8th house in Catuṣkanta) → instability in residence during this period
  • Assessment: Transitional year — finding house, school, settling in

2009–10 Gudi Padwa Chart (Guru–Candra Yoga in Lagna)

  • Jupiter + Rahu in Capricorn Lagna (21° apart — not tight)
  • Mars in 6th house → very favorable
  • 9th house: 7th lord, 9th lord, Lagna lord — good combination
  • Sun (8th lord) also there — some problem
  • Guru–Candra Yoga: Jupiter's intelligence/judgment under Rahu stress → anxiety, restless mind
  • Assessment: Reasonably good, some nervous energy

2010–11 Gudi Padwa Chart (Best Year)

  • Ruler of year: Venus — 10th lord in 10th house → very strong
  • Mars is 3rd lord in 3rd (similar to Harṣa/Sarala Yoga type)
  • Lagna lord with exalted 9th lord in 9th house (Saturn and Mercury — within 0°12′!)
  • Assessment: Excellent. Saturn and Mercury within half a degree — Lagna lord + exalted 9th lord in 9th = exceptional fortune and stability

[!IMPORTANT] The near-exact conjunction of Lagna lord and exalted 9th lord in 9th house in the 2010–11 Gudi Padwa chart is a very auspicious sign — she will be "quite happy" and financially fortunate in that year.

🙏 Remedies & Spiritual Guidance

For the Lady (Mental Anxiety & Saturn Transit)

Remedy Basis
Hanumān Cāliṣā — every Saturday (primary) or Saturday + Tuesday Ātmakāraka Saturn; all negative Moon combinations have Martian link (Saturn in 8th from Moon, Mars + Ketu in 12th from Moon)
Ishṭa Devatā: Hanumān / Subrahmaṇya D-9 12th from Ātmakāraka Saturn = Lagna + Mars (own sign) → Mars devatā
Why Hanumān specifically Hanumān controls Saturn; addresses both the current Sāḍe-Sāti and the coming Saturn Mahādaśā

[!TIP] "She has a good life but a tense mind." The remedy addresses the mind, not the material circumstances, which are actually favorable.
