🔔 Opening & Remedies Philosophy

Class opens with Gaṇapati, Bṛhaspati, Viṣṇu mantras and group chant of "Hare Rāma Kṛṣṇa" three times.

A student asks about the effectiveness of rājasic remedies (gemstones, etc.) in the context of karma theory.

The Three Types of Remedies

Type Nature Effect
Tāmasic Wearing gems, yantras, etc. without real understanding Postpones karma to a future daśā or life; incurs additional karma (like borrowing at interest to pay a debt)
Rājasic Ritualistic pujas performed out of desire for relief Also postpones; some additional karma incurred
Sātvic Going through the suffering while chanting God's name; genuine penance; fasting Burns the karma without incurring additional debt; transforms the form of suffering

[!IMPORTANT] "Whatever bad karma you have done, it must be experienced. Wearing a gemstone only postpones it — like taking a bank loan to pay off a debt, with added interest."

Practical exception: When a person is in severe crisis, they may not be able to think about the next life. In such cases, rājasic remedies can provide immediate relief. As an astrologer:

  • Always tell the person what the remedy actually does.
  • If they can afford to suffer (i.e., the crisis is not dire), recommend the sātvic path.
  • If they cannot, provide the rājasic/tāmasic remedy but be transparent about its karmic consequences.

Fasting / penance: Converting one form of suffering (e.g., a violent accident) into another form (e.g., a day of fasting) is valid — it is still suffering. One day of fasting may not equal the full karmic debt, but it reduces it proportionally.

🌍 Karma at Four Levels

Level Scope Influence on Individual
1. Individual (Vyakti) Your own soul's karma Most important — the primary determinant
2. Family (Kula) Spouse, children, parents, extended family Second most important — their suffering/prosperity bleeds through
3. Societal The country/community you live in Third — you share in their collective karma
4. Universal All humanity Least direct — usually background

[!NOTE] "Unless it is in your karma to experience the karma of another person, you will not even get married to that person, or move to that country." All levels are interconnected by your own chart.

Practical implication: When individual-chart analysis misses something, look at:

  • Spouse's chart for marital events
  • Children's charts for child-related events
  • Parents' charts for parental events

🌌 What the Divisional Charts Show

    CORE -->|Vehicle for| KARMA

"Rāśi shows the physical body given to discharge karma. Divisional charts show the various environments in which it operates. D-60 shows why — the actual karma which has to be experienced using that body and those environments."

Parāśara's dictum on D-60: "In D-60, see everything." — This is the only statement Parāśara makes about D-60 results. Its brevity reflects its supreme importance.

Viṁśopaka Bala significance: In the Daśa Varga group (10 charts), D-60 receives more weightage than Rāśi and Navāṁśa combined. It is the single most important divisional chart in the group.

📜 The Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa (D-60) — Overview

  • Each sign (30°) is divided into 60 parts of 30′ each.
  • Each 30′ Aṁśa has a specific deity name (see table below).
  • Lagna in D-60 changes every 2 minutes — hence extreme precision of birth time is required.

[!WARNING] Never use D-60 as a first step. Use it only when:

  1. You have rectified Rāśi, Navāṁśa, D-24 and other charts.
  2. You are confident birth time is accurate within ~30 seconds.
  3. You have already confirmed the reading from events of the past (not predictions).

If a 15-minute uncertainty exists, 7+ different D-60 Lagnas are possible — the chart becomes statistical noise.

🔮 Arudha Lagna in D-60 — Past Life Reading

The Arudha Lagna of the D-60 chart shows the immediate previous life of the person.

"Take the Arudha Lagna of D-60 as if it were the Lagna of a Rāśi chart. The houses from it, the planets there, the lords — they all show what the person was, what they did, in the past life."

What you can verify:

  • Phobias in this life directly correspond to the nature of death in the past life.
  • Deep instincts and vāsanās (innate tendencies) = past-life character from Arudha Lagna of D-60.

[!NOTE] Predictions about what someone did in a past life cannot be externally verified. But phobias linked to the past-life death are directly observable and confirmable.

💀 Third from Arudha Lagna in D-60 — Nature of Past-Life Death

Planet in 3rd from AL (D-60) Nature of Past-Life Death Likely Phobia This Life
Mars Violent — weapons, firearms, bloodshed Fear of violence, sharp objects
Saturn Prolonged — chronic terminal illness, slow suffering Hypochondria; catastrophises small ailments
Moon (exalted) Drowning; death in/near water Hydrophobia
Sun Royal/authority punishment, fire, firearms Fear of authority; fire phobia
Ketu Accidental death — unexpected mistake (e.g., falling from height) Phobia of heights; fear of careless mistakes

Method: Look at planets in the 3rd house from AL (D-60) and planets having Rāśi Dṛṣṭi on it. If no planet occupies or aspects, look at the 3rd house lord.

"The sign shows the place (environment/location) of death. The planet shows the how (nature, cause, manner)."

🗺️ Signs as Places (for Death Localization)

Sign Places / Environments
Gemini Research labs, universities, gardens, parks, green areas
Pisces Ocean, rivers, beaches, hospitals, prisons, monasteries, caves
Libra Marketplaces, malls, amusement parks, places of desire/entertainment
Virgo Agricultural fields, workplaces (suffering environment)
Capricorn Forests, marshlands (Makara = crocodile habitat)
Aquarius Mountains, highlands
Sagittarius Temples, places of worship, heights (falls)

Reference: Practical Horary Astrology by Śrīmatī Gāyatrī Devī Vāsudev (daughter of Dr. B.V. Raman) — first few chapters contain an exhaustive list of sign/planet/house significations.

⚔️ Planets as Cause of Death

Planet Type of Death
Mars Violent — weapons, guns, arrows, sharp objects; blood loss
Saturn Slow, prolonged illness; coma; chronic suffering
Sun Fire; royal/state execution; firearms
Moon Drowning; water-related; emotional distress
Ketu Accidental; mistake-driven; fall from height; unexpected
Rahu Eclipse-like; sudden darkening; ambiguous/mysterious
Jupiter Natural; while engaged in dharmic activity
Venus Sensual/romantic context; luxury excess
Mercury Commerce-related; during travel; intellectual dispute

⚖️ How to See Death Correctly (Jaimini's Rule)

Jaimini taught: take the stronger of Arudha Lagna or Ascendant (Lagna itself). The third from the stronger shows the nature of death (in the Rāśi chart for this life; in D-60 for the previous life).

flowchart LR
    A[Find Arudha Lagna\nand Lagna] --> B{Which is stronger?}
    B --> C[3rd from the stronger one]
    C --> D[Planets there / Rasi Drishti on it\n→ Nature of death]
    C --> E[Sign there\n→ Place / environment of death]
D --> F[If no planet: look at 3rd house lord]

[!NOTE] The principle of Bhāva Bhāvam (house from house) applies: 8th house = death. 3rd house = 3rd from 8th = how death manifests. This is why the 3rd from Arudha Lagna (not the 8th) shows the manner of death.

🔭 Case Study: Pandit Sañjaya Rath's D-60 Chart

Birth data: August 7, 1963, 9:15 PM IST, Sambalpur, India (83°58′E, 21°27′N)

Arudha Lagna Analysis (Past Life)

Feature Observation Conclusion
1st house Ketu (9th lord) Spiritual person; fortunate; headless in a spiritual way; father-figure very attached
Lagna lord Jupiter Exalted in 5th house Extremely scholarly, capable, wise
3rd house Exalted Moon + Mercury aspecting Sweet, warm communicator; whatever he says feels pleasant; Moon-dominated communication
3rd lord With Mars (karaka of initiative) When he wanted to do something, he just did it
10th house Jupiter (10th lord exalted in 5th from 10th) + Venus Occult teacher; Venus (3rd & 8th lord) + Jupiter (10th lord in 8th from 10th) → occult career
8th house Mercury All-round knowledge; knows something of everything
7th house Rahu; 7th lord Mercury in 8th Some weakness in marriage in past life

3rd from AL (D-60) death: Exalted Moon in 3rd from Arudha Lagna → death by drowning in past life → confirmed by Sañjaya Rath's lifelong hydrophobia (forced to learn swimming much later in life).

Mūla Daśā Analysis

Daśā Period Aṁśa House/Lord Karma Actual Events
Sun 1963–68 Indu (Moon) 2nd lord in 7th Benefic Aṁśa; 2nd lord in 7th = Māraka; Jupiter (9th lord) aspects → near-death but saved Fell into reservoir as infant; grandmother jumped in and saved him
Venus 1968–88 Mṛtyu 11th/4th lord in 7th Bad Aṁśa; shows karma of death; conjoined with Mars → Venus gives Mars results; Mars in Dāvāgni Aṁśa + Yogakāraka in 6th + Dhīmanta Yoga Excellent academic results (double promotion); became BTech engineer; minimal astrology yet
Mars (within Venus period) Dāvāgni Yogakāraka, 5th & 10th lord, in 6th Forest-fire Aṁśa = cleanup/renewal; Dhīmanta Yoga Peak academic performance; engineering degree
Saturn 1985–2003 Bhraṣṭa 8th lord (Ātmakāraka), 7th lord, retrograde, in 12th Bhrashta = fallen from path; has deep desire (retrograde); 8th lord → occult knowledge; 12th → moksha Torrential occult/astrological learning from grandfather & Kāśīnāth Rath; married; established Śrī Jagannāth Center; court cases & obstacles; students who betrayed him
Ketu 2003–2008 Daṇḍāyudha 5th lord in 9th (Mūlatrikoṇa) Daṇḍāyudha = stick/weapon to invoke siddhis and punish; 9th house = supreme karmic protection; 5th lord = scholarship, knowledge Fame increasing; opposition reducing; more forceful and assertive
Rahu 2008–2017 Daṇḍāyudha 8th lord in 3rd (Mūlatrikoṇa) Occult knowledge; Viparīta Rāja Yoga (8th lord in 3rd); parakrama Siddhis fulfilled; more assertive energy; occult research coming to fruition
Jupiter 2017 onward Kulaghna 9th lord exalted in 1st Kulaghna = one who ended a lineage in past life; must re-establish; Hamsa Mahāpuruṣa Yoga Re-establishment of Śrī Jagannāth Center as a great lasting lineage; the organization finding its permanent footing

[!IMPORTANT] Key principle: When two planets are conjoined in D-60, they exchange results in their respective Daśās.

  • Venus is in Mṛtyu Aṁśa → carries negative karma. Venus with Mars → in Venus Daśā, Mars results will be experienced; in Mars Daśā, Venus results will be experienced.

[!NOTE] Ātmakāraka in D-60: The Ātmakāraka's Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa shows the mission of the soul — not a minor thing but the central purpose of this existence. Saturn (Ātmakāraka) in Bhraṣṭa Aṁśa = the soul has a mission it abandoned previously, and must now complete under great difficulty.

Dhīmanta = "one who has and uses wisdom." If 5th lord is in 6th, or 5th and 6th houses are connected: the person doesn't merely possess abilities — they use those abilities to overcome obstacles, solving problems with intelligence.

Mars as 5th lord in 6th house (D-60) → Dhīmanta Yoga → Sañjaya Rath uses intelligence to fight and overcome obstacles in life.

🌿 Mūla Daśā — Overview and Use

Feature Description
Purpose Shows the actual karma being experienced in this life from past-life actions
Companion Daśā Vimśottarī shows how the person feels while experiencing that karma
Chart used with Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa (D-60)
Starting point Stronger of: Lagna, Candra, or Sūrya (in D-60)
Order Follows the signs/planets based on odd/even signs and 30′ Aṁśa positions
flowchart LR
MD[Mula Dasha\nWhat is actually happening on the ground\nKarmic level]
VD[Vimshottari Dasha\nHow the person feels about what is happening]
MD --> E[When both agree: high certainty]
    VD --> E

[!WARNING] The computation of Mūla Daśā in software (JHora) may not be fully reliable in edge cases — the classics are cryptic about the exact rules. The starting point (Lagna vs. Candra vs. Sūrya) was debated as recently as 3 years before this class date. Use with caution; always verify from past events before making predictions.

📊 Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa Aṁśa Names & Meanings

[!TIP] To identify an Aṁśa: find how many complete 30′ intervals the planet is from the start of its sign, then match to the D-60 Aṁśa table. Odd and even signs may have different sequences — check JHora's D-60 view.

🔗 Cross-References

  • Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa and Vimśopaka Bala — D-60 has greater weight than Rāśi + Navāṁśa combined in Daśa Varga group.
  • Third from Arudha in Rāśi chart — also applicable for seeing this life's death manner (see Jaimini; use stronger of Lagna or AL).
  • Phobias and past-life death — the most empirically verifiable aspect of D-60 Arudha Lagna analysis.
  • Mūla Daśā vs. Narayana Daśā — Narayana Daśā shows what is happening materially in this life; Mūla Daśā shows the karmic root cause from past lives.
  • Dhīmanta Yoga — 5th lord in 6th or 6th lord in 5th → intelligence put to active use. Covered in earlier classes.
  • Viparīta Rāja Yoga in D-60 — 8th lord in 3rd (Rahu in Sañjaya's D-60) = excellent; reverse-of-fortune energy applied to parakrama and occult research.
  • D-24 Narayana Daśā (Class 45) — material learning environment; distinct from D-60 karmic root.
  • Practical Horary Astrology — Gāyatrī Devī Vāsudev — sign/place significations resource.
