🔄 Foundations Review

PVR opens with a rapid review of the key building blocks taught so far:

[!NOTE] Principle 1 — Planets vs. Signs: Signs and houses represent inanimate situations/circumstances. Planets represent animate consciousness. The house lord is the consciousness driving the house's matter.

[!NOTE] Principle 2 — Arudha Padas: The Arudha of a house is the material manifestation of that house's matter — what the world can actually perceive.

Key Arudha Houses

Arudha From Shows
Arudha Lagna (AL) 1st house Overall image in the world
A4 4th house Vehicles, luxury items (tangible comforts)
A5 5th house Tangible manifestation of abilities (exam scores, awards, failures)
Upapada (UL) 12th house Marriage — kind of spouse, impact of spouse

Houses from Arudha Lagna

House from AL Meaning
2nd Resources that feed / grow the image
3rd Initiative of the image (bold vs. gentle)
6th Obstacle-overcoming of the image (fighter vs. saint)
9th Protection of the image (dharma of image)
10th Karma of the image — what you are seen to be doing

[!TIP] Rulerships are not used from Arudha Lagna. Only occupants and planets with Graha Drishti (planetary aspect) on the relevant house matter.

🗺️ Divisional Chart Hierarchy

Range Level Type of Existence
D1–D12 Physical Physical body and outer life
D13–D24 Consciousness Mental, intellectual
D25–D36 Subconscious Hidden forces within
D37–D60 Supra-conscious Karmic / past-life domain

[!IMPORTANT] Arudhas have no role in D60 (Shastiamsa), because at the supra-conscious level there is no material manifestation. D60 shows the karma carried from past lives — what must happen.

🌀 D60 — Shastiamsa Primacy

[!WARNING] D60 is the most important chart but extremely sensitive — Lagna changes every 2 minutes. Use only with a very accurate birth time.

  • Shastiamsa strength > Rasi + Navamsa strength combined (per Parashara's Varga strength formula).
  • Each planet carries a Shastiamsa amsa name (e.g., Sudha, Komala, Kula Ghna) that describes the quality of karma it brings from past lives.
  • Arudha of D60 Lagna shows the most recent past life.
  • D60 Lagna itself (taken as reference) shows the karma to be experienced in the current life.

D60 Amsa Meanings (Examples)

Amsa Name Sanskrit Meaning Implication
Sudha Moonlight / nectar Pure, spiritual karma
Komala Gentle, delicate Gentle dharma karma
Kula Ghna Family destroyer Karma of stopping lineage

Spirituality Assessment

  • Ketu (moksha karaka) in 12th house → spiritual person
  • Ketu in Sudha amsa (D60) → pure spiritual karma from past lives
  • Mercury (lord of 9th and 12th) in Komala amsa → gentle dharma; strong spiritual purity
  • Yet the image (from AL) is of an aggressive person: 3rd from AL has Mercury (malefic by company of Ketu/Sun), 6th from AL has Saturn → perceived as quarrelsome, ruthless, not saintly

[!TIP] Key teaching: A highly spiritual person can have a publicly perceived image of being aggressive and quarrelsome — these are different levels of reality. Spirituality is Satya; image is Maya.

Prana Pada Lagna (Human Being Test)

  • Prana Pada Lagna in Navamsa: Moon must be in a trine or 7th from it for a human birth.
  • Prana Pada changes ~5° per minute → extremely sensitive to sunrise definition.
  • PVR's recommended sunrise: Sun's center exactly on the eastern horizon (Sun conjunct Lagna).

Karakas for Various Species

Species Required Karaka near Prana Pada
Human ☽ Moon in trine or 7th
Bird ☀️ Sun
Fish 🐲 Ketu
Pig 🐉 Rahu
Horse ♀ Venus

💼 Career: 2nd, 6th & 10th in Dasamsa

[!IMPORTANT] The correct way to read career in Dasamsa is to examine all three Artha Trikonas: 2nd, 6th, and 10th houses — not 10th alone.

Dasamsa Reading — Anonymous Astrologer

House Planet Dasamsa Amsa Reading
10th (Aquarius) Rahu Kubera Occult activity; money from foreign sources
10th (Aquarius) Saturn Brahma Research/digging; Tapasvi Yoga with Ketu
6th Moon Indra Very high-level government bureaucrat
2nd Mars (= Mercury via Parivarthana) Strong Mercurian profession (communication, accounting)

Result: IAS-level Director General of Accounts & Auditing in Indian government + renowned astrologer/researcher.

Tapasvi Yoga

Formed when Saturn + Ketu + Venus are in mutual relationship (conjunction, trine, or Argala):

Planet Contribution
♄ Saturn Unemotional discipline, perseverance
🐲 Ketu Detachment, moksha attitude
♀ Venus Passionate energy (Rajas) to sustain effort

[!NOTE] Here Saturn + Ketu are conjunct with Venus providing Argala (from 2nd from them) → approximate Tapasvi Yoga → lifelong research in Vedic/astrological knowledge.

7th House in Dasamsa = Desire, not Business

The 7th house in Dasamsa shows desire (Karma Trikonas: 3rd = initiative, 7th = desire, 11th = gains). Strong planets there show strong desire to pursue intellectual/occult goals, not necessarily a formal business.

🌟 Chara Karakas Introduction

Chara Karakas are the 8 planets (Sun through Rahu) ranked by their degree within their sign. The planet with the highest degree = Atma Karaka (AK).

[!NOTE] For Rahu: effective degree = 30° − Rahu's actual degree (Rahu moves backward, so counts from the end).

Atma Karaka Change in Life

If two planets share the same integer degree (e.g., both at 24°), they are in the same degree bucket:

  • The higher-longitude planet is AK at birth
  • That planet is eventually "removed" from the life → lower planet becomes AK
  • The vacated slot is filled by the corresponding Sthira Karaka (fixed significator)
  • This triggers a major life upheaval / transformation

[!WARNING] Four planets in the same degree (as in the anonymous astrologer's chart) means a queue of upheavals. Each removal can signal major changes; if the Sthira Karaka of the vacated slot is weak in the chart, it can indicate death of the relevant family member.

🔮 Atma Karaka Weaknesses by Planet

The AK represents why the Jivatma (individual soul) is separate from Paramatma. The planet shows the weakness or attachment the soul must overcome for moksha.

AK Planet Core Weakness Path
☀️ Sun Ego (Ahankara) Surrender pride
☽ Moon Being drawn into Maya, excess compassion Recognize impermanence of Maya
♂ Mars Aggression Curb violent impulses
☿ Mercury Excessive wavering / flexibility Develop firmness
♃ Jupiter Excessive preaching, emphasis on purity Listen more than teach
♀ Venus Excessive Rajas (passion) Transcend passionate energy
♄ Saturn Emotional coldness (like Yama) Develop compassion
🐉 Rahu Extreme viciousness or extreme spirituality Avoid either extreme

[!NOTE] Ketu is never an Atma Karaka. A person with Rahu as AK will never get moksha in this life — because Ketu (which would be in the 7th from AK in Navamsa) cannot be in the 12th from AK to provide detachment.

[!TIP] The AK placement from Lagna in Rasi shows the sync between soul and physical action:

  • AK in quadrant from Lagna → soul and efforts are in sync; reliable for AK-based readings
  • AK in Dussthana from Lagna → soul and actions at odds; person may know conscience's call but not follow it

🕉️ Ramana Maharshi's Chart

Birth Data: December 30, 1879 · 1:00 AM IST · 78°E15′, 9°N50′ (Pondicherry, India)
Lagna: Virgo 26°36′
Atma Karaka: ☽ Moon

AK Analysis

  • Moon (AK) is in a quadrant from Lagna → follows his conscience; AK-based readings reliable
  • Moon is with Ketu (direct conjunction) → detachment influences the soul's core nature
  • 10th from Moon (in Rasi): Saturn in Pisces → soul's desired karma = yoga, sadhana, meditation, discipline in the sign of Maharshis

Moksha Test — Navamsa (12th from AK)

  • Moon (AK) is in [sign X] in Navamsa
  • 12th from Moon: Ketu is there
  • Aspecting that sign: Venus (benefic ✓), Mercury (benefic in Navamsa ✓), Mars (malefic ✗)
  • 2 benefics + 1 malefic → ~90% of Parashara's perfect moksha combination
  • Closest chart PVR has seen to the classical moksha definition

[!IMPORTANT] Parashara's Moksha Rule: If Ketu is in the 12th from AK in Navamsa, aspected only by benefics (no malefics) → person attains moksha. Each malefic aspect reduces the completeness.

🔮 Ishta Devata Technique

The Ishta Devata is the divine form that will guide the soul toward moksha.

[!TIP] Parashara's original teaching: "If Ketu is in 12th from AK with Sun → pray to Shiva; with Moon → pray to Parvati" etc. PVR generalises: even without Ketu, identify the strongest planet there and use its deity as Ishta Devata.

Moksha Trikonas in Navamsa (Ketu placement)

Ketu Position from AK Effect
4th from AK Direction toward moksha given
8th from AK Active sadhana enabling detachment
12th from AK Full moksha potential (if benefic-aspected)
