v1 Batch 2 — Classes 11–20
Karakas — Batch 2
Karaka — Naisargika (Natural) Karaka System
Source: class-14, class-15 Significations: Natural (permanent) significators for life matters. Sun=soul/Atma/politics/authority/father; Moon=mind/mother/bureaucrats/ministers; Mars=siblings/bravery/initiative/police/army/Senapati; Mercury=learning/speech/communication/trade/children (as Buddhi); Jupiter=children/wealth/intellect/wisdom/guru; Venus=marriage/spouse/passion/luxury; Saturn=longevity/service/discipline/hard work/obstacles; Rahu=foreign elements/occult/research/shock/cheating; Ketu=moksha/liberation/spirituality/astrology Relations: "Naisargika Karaka is like a project manager — he is accountable for making a particular life matter happen." (class-14) Notes: Unlike Chara Karakas, Naisargika Karakas are fixed — they do not change from chart to chart. Parashara lists nine planets as Naisargika Karakas of various matters.
Karaka — Chara (Variable) Karaka System: Overview
Source: class-15 Significations: Eight variable karakas, one per planet (excluding Ketu), determined by highest longitude within a sign. Ranked 1–8 in descending order of degrees within sign: AK (Atma Karaka), AmK (Amatya Karaka), BK (Bhratru Karaka), MK (Matru Karaka), PiK (Pitru Karaka), PK (Putra Karaka), GK/JK (Jnathe/Gnati Karaka), DK (Dara Karaka). Notes: Ketu never participates in the Chara Karaka scheme because "Ketu wants all souls to merge back with the Paramatma — he refuses to become a separate soul." (class-15). If two planets share the same degree, the higher-degree planet takes the higher Karaka slot; the planet loses that Karaka role later in life and the next planet steps up (Karaka replacement). Chara Karakas are ruled by Vishnu — they show the soul's journey and sustenance toward Moksha.
Karaka — AK (Atma Karaka / Chara)
Source: class-13, class-15, class-16, class-18 Significations: The individual soul (Jivatma). Shows the true hidden agenda of one's existence; what the soul ultimately wants; the spiritual direction of the native. The planet with the highest longitude (degrees within sign, regardless of sign) among Sun–Rahu. Body parts: N/A (soul-level karaka) Notes:
- Sun AK → strong ego, arrogance, pride, sense of royalty; cruelty possible; tested through father/authority figures. (class-13)
- Moon AK → fluctuating nature, compassion, popularity, charm; may covet others' spouse (Moon's curse); mind completely controls the Atma. (class-13)
- Rahu AK → shocks in life; can produce highest saint OR greatest criminal depending on karmic direction. Malefics in trines to Karakamsha increase spiritual tendency. (class-13)
- Atmakaraka in Navamsa placement (Karakamsha) reveals what the soul has come to do. Twelfth from AK in Navamsa = Moksha indicator; the planet/sign there shows path to liberation.
- Dasha of the Atmakaraka is materially difficult but spiritually auspicious; the AK forces one onto the correct spiritual path. (class-18)
- If AK is replaced in life (Karaka replacement), the new AK planet drives the soul's agenda from that point. (class-16)
Karaka — AmK (Amatya Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Souls that counsel, advise, and guide the native. "Amatya means minister." Shows the counselors, advisers, and those with whom one shares guidance in this lifetime. Second highest degree planet among Sun–Rahu. Notes: At the soul-level, these are not merely physical advisors but souls whose dharmic journey intersects with the native's as advisors.
Karaka — BK (Bhratru Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Brother-like souls who pursue the same spiritual/material path alongside the native. Not merely physical siblings — includes co-disciples, collaborators, spiritual brothers. Third highest degree planet. Notes: "For Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Vivekananda, use Bhratru Karaka, not Pitru Karaka, because theirs is a brother-like relationship." (class-15)
Karaka — MK (Matru Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Motherly souls that nourish and care for the native. Not only the physical mother but any soul that shows unconditional nurturing. Fourth highest degree planet.
Karaka — PiK (Pitru Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Fatherly souls that exercise authority over and guide the native correctly. Father-figures, elders, gurus, mentors. Fifth highest degree planet. Notes: "AK + PiK conjoined in the 1st or 5th house = great Raja Yoga — the native rises because of blessings and support from elders/father-figures." (class-15). George W. Bush example: Venus (AK) and Mercury (PiK) conjoined in 1st house → rose through father's influence.
Karaka — PK (Putra Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Souls that follow the native's soul — true disciples, followers. Not merely physical children but blind spiritual followers across lives. Sixth highest degree planet. Notes: "AK + PK together in the 1st or 5th house = Maharaja Yoga — native gains great power through following and followers." (class-15). Vajpayee example: Mercury (AK) + Saturn (PK) in Lagna → rose through massive public following.
Karaka — GK/JK (Gnati/Jnathe Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: Rival souls, competing with the native. Not merely enemies but souls competing for the same spiritual or material objectives. Seventh highest degree planet (also written JK in software). Notes: If JK is in the 6th from AK in the Rashi chart → constant physical rivalry and opposition throughout life. (class-15 — George Bush Sr. example)
Karaka — DK (Dara Karaka)
Source: class-15 Significations: The spouse-soul; the soul that plays the partner role in the native's life journey. Typically shows wife/husband but can indicate any deep partner. Lowest degree planet among Sun–Rahu. Notes: "Dara literally means woman, but Dara Karaka shows the partner whose soul is intrinsically linked to the native's spiritual journey." (class-15)
Karaka — Sthira (Fixed) Karaka System
Source: class-15 Significations: Seven fixed karakas (Sun through Saturn, no Rahu) used for timing the deaths of specific relatives. Ruled by Shiva. These show destruction and separation at the body/soul level. Notes: "Sthira Karakas are lorded by Shiva — he destroys the body, the mind, and eventually the qualities of the soul so it can merge back with Paramatma." (class-15). Not covered in practical depth in these classes.
Karaka — House Karakas (Bhava Karakas)
Source: class-11, class-14 Significations:
- 1st house: Sun (soul/body existence)
- 2nd house: Jupiter (family/wealth)
- 3rd house: Mars (siblings/courage/initiative)
- 4th house: Moon/Venus (mother/comfort/happiness)
- 5th house: Jupiter (children/intelligence/power)
- 6th house: Saturn/Mars (enemies/obstacles/service)
- 7th house: Venus (spouse/relationships/desire)
- 8th house: Saturn (longevity/obstacles/sadhana)
- 9th house: Jupiter/Sun (father/dharma/guru)
- 10th house: Mercury/Sun (career/karma/authority)
- 11th house: Jupiter (gains/friends)
- 12th house: Saturn/Ketu (loss/liberation/foreign lands) Notes: "Karaka is like a project manager — he is accountable for that particular house matter." (class-14). For each house lord/karaka relationship see the Techniques file.
Karaka — Karakamsha
Source: class-13, class-15 Significations: The Navamsa sign occupied by the Atmakaraka. Shows the soul's Dharma and spiritual direction in detail. Notes: "Malefics in trines to Karakamsha make a person very spiritual — the soul develops the strength to absorb shocks." (class-13). Two malefics in trines = mantrika (chants mantras). Three malefics = yantrika (knowledge of yantras/diagrams). Planets in the sixth from Arudha Lagna show what the soul must renounce for spiritual progress.
v1 Batch 3 — Classes 21–30
Karakas — Batch 3 (classes 21–30)
Karaka — Atmakaraka (AK) and Soul-Level Dashas
Source: class-21 Significations: The Atmakaraka is the planet that most directly represents the soul's journey in a given life. It governs the evolution of the soul within this lifetime, and special dashas such as Atmakaraka Kendradhi Graha Dasha reveal when the Atma finds itself or goes through confusion. Notes: Distinct from Moola Dasha (which shows fruition of past-life karma). Moon Vimshottari shows how you feel/react; Lagna Vimshottari shows how you act; Sun Vimshottari shows soul experiences (rarely used for ordinary people).
Karaka — Ninth Lord as Dharma Significator
Source: class-21 Significations: The ninth lord in the natal chart carries the karma from past lives related to the native's Dharma. Its Sashtiamsha (D-60) position reveals the quality of that past-life Dharma — Deva (divine), Rakshasa (demonic), etc. Notes: If the ninth lord falls in Deva Sashtiamsha, the native is given a lofty, godly Dharma in this life. If in Rakshasa Sashtiamsha, the Dharma will be negative or demonic even if the person wears the garb of a saint.
Karaka — Ghatika Lagna (Power Karaka)
Source: class-22 Significations: A special sensitive point calculated from the sunrise time. Any planet that owns, occupies, or aspects both the natal Lagna and Ghatika Lagna simultaneously becomes a Yogada — a planet capable of conferring power and authority. Notes: Ghatika Lagna moves five times faster than Lagna. In Dasamsa, Yogada planets confer political or career power. PVR notes using this in Jayalalitha's chart: Saturn aspects both Lagna and Ghatika Lagna and is Lagna lord, making it a powerful Yogada.
Karaka — Moon as Karaka for Masses (in Dasamsa)
Source: class-22 Significations: In a democracy, Moon represents the masses. In the Dasamsa, the placement of Moon shows the native's relationship with the public and whether the public supports or withdraws support from the native's power/career. Notes: Moon in 12th from Dasamsa Lagna or 8th from 5th house shows the masses withdrawing support — used to predict Jayalalitha losing the 2006 election.
Karaka — Sun as Power/Authority in Dasamsa
Source: class-22, class-26 Significations: Sun in the Dasamsa second house shows political connections that fuel the native's career. Sun's Argala on the tenth house or tenth lord shows the career carries an element of authority and commanding others. Sun is the natural karaka of power and the fifth house. Notes: Sun in Niriti Sashtiamsha in Dasamsa (8th lord in 5th) shows capacity for adharmic acts for the sake of power.
Karaka — Venus and Moon in Navamsa Trikonas (Singing)
Source: class-24 Significations: For musical/singing ability, either Sun or Moon must be in a trine (1st, 5th, or 9th house) in Navamsa. Sun in trines produces rhythm-oriented musicians; Moon in trines produces melody-oriented singers. Notes: Venus in 3rd house in Navamsa indicates a poet/composer; Mercury in 3rd indicates a writer/communicator. Third house is house of creative abilities.
Karaka — Venus as Kidney/Uterus Karaka
Source: class-24 Significations: Venus represents the kidneys and uterus. In D-6 (Shashtiamsha for disease), Venus afflicting or being afflicted in relation to 6th/8th houses indicates kidney or uterine problems. Body parts: Kidneys, uterus. Notes: Jupiter in D-6 connected to 6th house indicates diabetes (Jupiter rules fats and sweets). Sun represents digestive fire. Mars rules nerve marrow/fluid.
Karaka — Atmakaraka for Occult Learning
Source: class-27 Significations: For learning Jyotish or other occult subjects, there must be a link between the Atmakaraka and the 11th lord in D-24. This indicates a soul-level connection to occult knowledge spanning multiple lives. Notes: Houses for occult knowledge: 2nd (speech/prediction), 5th (ability/scholarship), 8th (hidden/occult knowledge itself), 11th (learning occult). 6th house shows overall scholarship.
v1 Batch 4 — Classes 31–40
Karakas — Batch 4 (Classes 31–40)
Chara Karakas
Atmakaraka Determination
- Class 31: In Narayana Dasha of divisional charts, look at the Atmakaraka's position in the relevant divisional chart to judge outcomes for that chart's domain.
- Class 40: Jaimini uses the term "Swamsa" interchangeably for two references: (1) Navamsa Lagna (the Lagna in D9), and (2) Karakamsa — the sign occupied by the Atmakaraka in Navamsa. PVR clarifies that "Swa = self" so it can mean both Lagna and Atmakaraka, but primarily means Lagna.
- Class 40: Karakamsa (Atmakaraka's Navamsa position) shows the yearning of the soul — what the soul desires across lifetimes. Navamsa Lagna shows what manifests in this life from past-life dharma.
Karakamsa vs Navamsa Lagna
- Class 40: Planets in trine to Karakamsa show soul desires; planets in trine to Navamsa Lagna show inherent abilities that manifest physically. These are related but distinct.
Planet as Karaka in Navamsa (Jaimini Upadesa Sutras — Class 40)
Per Narayan's teaching of Jaimini Upadesa Sutras (Sanjay Rath translation), planets influencing Navamsa Lagna or trines via Rashi Drishti indicate the native's inherent abilities and blessings from past-life dharma:
| Planet | Ability / Indication |
|---|---|
| Sun | Administrative ability; government/political worker; social service |
| Moon | Artistic ability (dancing, singing, classical arts); educationist |
| Mars | Knowledge of metallurgy or warfare; hot-tempered, aggressive, assertive |
| Mercury | Good businessman, trader; grasps things fast; good student |
| Jupiter | Vast knowledge (broad + depth in one); karma yogi; wise; good judgment |
| Venus | Managerial ability (micromanagement); government official; virile; longevity (Mrityunjaya connection) |
| Saturn | Success through hard work in any line; consequential fame; tenacity |
| Rahu | Handling poisonous/dangerous chemicals or medicines; bowman; metallurgy with large machinery |
| Ketu | Small instruments, computers, spirituality; swindler/thief ability; continuity of tradition (parampara) |
- Class 40: Sun = king/administrator (macro-delegation), Venus = manager/micromanager (Venus is teacher of demons, must constantly supervise).
- Class 40: Jupiter in Navamsa Lagna gives perfect judgment as an inherent blessing from past karma.
- Class 40: Ketu + Jupiter influencing Navamsa Lagna → born to spread a parampara (tradition/lineage). Ketu = Matsya Avatar who rescued the Vedas; Ketu = continuity of traditional knowledge. Jupiter = Vedic/traditional knowledge itself.
- Class 40: Moon + Venus together in Navamsa trine → luxuries of life + connection to education.
- Class 40: Moon + Mercury in trine to Navamsa Lagna → acting ability (classical combination).
Special Combinations in Navamsa (Jaimini — Class 40)
- Sun + Rahu in Swamsa/trine → death/harm by snake venom or poison (or drug addiction); if aspected by benefics → doctor handling poisons.
- Sun + Rahu + Mars → arsonist (burns others' houses).
- Sun + Rahu + Mars + Venus → firefighter (Venus = Jala tattva, cooling influence; Mahalakshmi holds Agnishtomana mantra).
- Sun + Rahu + Mars + Jupiter → sets fire to own house (Jupiter = expansion of fire; self-referential).
- Aquarius Navamsa Lagna (dharme = 11th sign via Katapayadi) → construction of lakes, tanks, gardens, roads, temples.
Kartari Yoga in Navamsa (Class 40)
- Planets on both sides of Navamsa Lagna (Shubha Kartari) are sometimes stronger than planets in Lagna itself.
- Katari from 4th and 10th = shows efforts toward the world.
- Katari from 5th and 9th = shows blessings (Bhagavathana/Vrishadhana).
- Katari from 2nd and 4th = shows management of resources.
- For Kartari to be Shubha Kartari, both flanking planets should be benefics. If one is benefic and one is malefic, effect is reduced.
- Parivarthana can convert a malefic into a benefic for Kartari purposes (Mars acting as Jupiter via exchange = Shubha Kartari).
Argala in Navamsa (Class 40)
- Argala (intervention) on Navamsa Lagna from the 4th house is permanent as potential (Adrishta); it manifests actively during the dasha of the Argala planet.
- Graha Drishti on Navamsa Lagna = permanent but limited in effect.
- Rashi Drishti = what will manifest (stronger for Navamsa analysis than Graha Drishti).
v1 Batch 5 — Classes 41–50
Karakas — Batch 5 (Classes 41–50)
class-41
Venus and Ketu as Marriage Karakas
- Venus: Karaka of love, desire, attraction — the experiential/emotional dimension of marriage.
- Ketu: Karaka of parampara (lineage succession), progeny, and marriage as a ritual/formal bond.
- Ketu represents the ancestral chain — marriage continues the family lineage.
- Ketu = moksha, liberation, but also the gate through which the lineage passes.
- Marriage as a religious/ritual event (not just romantic) is Ketu's domain.
- Both Venus AND Ketu must be examined when assessing marriage prospects.
- The UL (Upapada Lagna) = Arudha of the 12th house = the tangible ritual of marriage.
- Source: v41
Upapada Lagna (UL) as Marriage Karaka Pada
- UL = Arudha of the 12th house.
- The 12th house = the act of giving yourself to another (the surrendering aspect of marriage).
- UL = the tangible manifestation of this surrender = the marriage ritual, the wedding itself, the formal bond.
- A7 = Arudha of the 7th house = the tangible partner (the spouse as perceived socially).
- UL and A7 both matter for marriage timing; UL governs the ritual event, A7 governs the partner image.
- Source: v41
class-42
Saturn as Reference Point for Hard Work
- When Saturn is used as a reference lagna, the chart reveals all matters related to hard work, patience, delay, discipline, and the capacity for sustained effort.
- Saturn as karaka: hard work itself; also old age, chronic things, slow processes, servants, the common masses.
- Source: v42
Sun as Atma-Jnana Karaka
- Sun = the soul (atman) itself; the infinite light within.
- Sun as reference: reveals the soul's journey and the degree of self-realization.
- In D1: Sun shows the vitality, authority, and self-expression of the native.
- In spiritual context: Sun's placement shows the native's connection to the divine light / Atma-jnana (self-knowledge).
- Source: v42
class-43
Ketu — Spiritual Significance as Karaka
- Ketu = moksha (liberation), siddhi (spiritual powers/attainments), completion, and the end of cycles.
- As a marriage karaka: Ketu represents the formal/ritual dimension and the parampara (succession, lineage).
- As a spiritual karaka: Ketu shows the final liberation — the cutting off from material existence.
- Ketu-associated dashas in Durdasha (spiritual dasha from 9th house) = most auspicious for spiritual growth.
- A planet with Ketu in the same house will eventually give Ketu's results — moksha orientation, letting go.
- In Vimshottari: Ketu does not have a dasha in some specialized systems (like Trishapada Dasha); its results are then given by its lord or by Rahu.
- Source: v43
Jupiter as Wisdom Karaka
- Jupiter = the divine teacher, wisdom, higher knowledge, dharma, expansion.
- As Putra Karaka: Jupiter is the "project manager" of childbirth — ultimately responsible for giving children.
- For a Jupiter aspecting the Lagna of the Navamsa: the person's marital environment is blessed with wisdom and righteous intentions.
- Jupiter in the 9th house of Navamsa (exalted) = deep dharmic blessings around marriage, easy and blessed marriage.
- Source: v43 (v48, v50)
class-45
Indu Sashtamsa (Moon's D60) — Benefic Past Life Karaka
- The term "Indu Sashtamsa" refers to the Moon's position in D60.
- Indu = Moon. Sashtamsa = D60 division.
- When the Moon's Sashtamsa is auspiciously placed, it indicates positive/benefic karma from past lives — the native was spiritually generous or dharmic in a past birth.
- An afflicted Indu Sashtamsa indicates challenging past-life karma related to the mind, mother, or emotions.
- Source: v45
class-46
Karakas by Purushartha
- Dharma karakas: Mercury (dharmic intelligence, right conduct, communication of truth) + Jupiter (wisdom, divine guidance, teacher).
- Artha karakas: Sun (authority, leadership, the executive force) + Mars (initiative, enterprise, physical strength, courage).
- Kama karaka: Saturn (desires of the mundane kind, sensory attachment, the mass of worldly experience).
- Moksha karakas: Moon (emotional sensitivity, compassion, devotion, reflection of divine) + Venus (beauty, bliss, the experience of the divine through the senses, love as transcendence).
- Source: v46
class-47
Jupiter as Putra Karaka (Children)
- Jupiter = the "project manager" of the childbirth project.
- The 5th lord = the "group manager" working under the project manager.
- For childbirth to happen: the project manager (Jupiter) and group manager (5th lord) must be able to work together.
- If Jupiter and the 5th lord are in enemy relationship, childbirth may be obstructed or difficult.
- Jupiter's association with Ketu in the D7 chart: Ketu is the 5th lord's domain planet here and is in an odd sign (Leo), indicating a male child.
- Source: v47 (expanded in v50)
class-48
Moon as Childbirth Karaka in a Woman's Chart
- In a woman's chart specifically: Moon is a key indicator of children alongside Jupiter.
- If Moon is badly placed in the annual Saptamsa (D7 of annual Tithi Pravesh), childbirth will be obstructed during that year even if other factors are favorable.
- Moon should be in an upachaya (3, 6, 10, 11) or kendra (1, 4, 7, 10) in the annual D7 for smooth childbirth.
- Moon's role: represents the physical/maternal body's readiness and capacity.
- Source: v48
Sun as 7th Lord Karaka (Physical Marriage Delivery)
- The 7th lord of the physical Rasi chart = "Karyesha" (the doer) as far as marriage in the physical plane is concerned.
- When Sun is the 7th lord and is associated with Venus (love) and Ketu (ritual) in Navamsa, Sun becomes the marriage deliverer in its dasha.
- The association with both Venus and Ketu means: physical desire (Venus) + formal ritual (Ketu) = complete marriage event.
- Source: v48 (v50)
class-49
Mercury as Karaka for Communication and Writing
- Mercury as Hora lord (ruler of a personal day) = a day of writing, communication, teaching.
- Mercury as 3rd lord in a daily chart = travel, contracts, short trips.
- Mercury in the 3rd house (which Mercury also karakas) = doubly reinforced communication activity.
- In D24 (education chart): Mercury in the 9th house = communication/telecom engineering as area of study.
- In D10 (career chart): Mercury as 6th lord is the Karyesha for service-oriented careers.
- Source: v49
class-50
Saturn as Karaka for Service and Material Effort
- Saturn as 7th lord in a natal chart connected to UL = marriage is strongly linked to commitment, duty, and material stability.
- Saturn in Taurus (in the annual chart) with Vivaha Sahama = marriage firmly connected to material resources and stability.
- Saturn as UL lord + 7th lord association = marriage ceremony will be structured, formal, traditional.
- As Putra Karaka surrogate: when Saturn is exalted and owns the 5th house in D7 annual chart, Saturn directly gives childbirth in its dasha.
- Source: v50
Mars as Enterprise/Business Karaka
- Mars = the spirit of enterprise — the willingness to do things independently, not work for others.
- Mars-7th house-A7 combination = tangible manifestation of business partnership and initiative.
- "Mars is the one who says: if he's not agreeing to me, kill him. Mars is a warrior, not a negotiator."
- Mars as karaka for enterprise fires the initiative but Mercury/Moon execute the networking.
- Mars in the 6th house of the Rasi chart (upachaya) as 5th+10th lord = very strong Yogakaraka energy applied to overcoming obstacles.
- Source: v50
v1 Batch 6 — Classes 51–60
Karakas — Batch 6 (classes 51–60)
Karaka — Atmakaraka (AK) as King of Karakas
Source: class-51
The Atmakaraka is the king of the Chara Karakas. It represents the individual jivatma (soul). In contrast, Sun represents the vishwatma (universal soul). The AK governs the highest desires the soul has set for itself in this incarnation. In divisional analysis (Navamsa), Ketu in the 12th from the AK is the primary indicator of moksha in this lifetime.
Karaka — Sun as Vishwatma / Universal Soul
Source: class-52
Sun is not merely an individual karaka but represents the universal soul (vishwatma), distinct from the individual jivatma represented by the Atmakaraka. Sun is the Atma of the cosmic chart. In the Sudarshana Chakra, Sun represents the "soul's agenda and world co-operation." Sun is the bringer of any yoga — without Sun's cooperation no yoga fully manifests.
Karaka — Moon as Mind and Sustainer
Source: class-51, class-59, class-60
Moon is the planet of mind, perception, and collective consciousness. Moon is the sustainer of any yoga — without Moon's strength, no yoga fully functions even if Sun activates it. Moon rules the masses; the mood of the country (collective consciousness) is seen from lunar charts. In individual charts, Lagna governs what you do; Moon governs how you perceive the world.
Karaka — Venus as Significator of Desire Fulfillment (11th house)
Source: class-60
Venus is the primary significator (karaka) for the 11th house — fulfillment of desires. Moon is the secondary significator of the 11th house. When judging whether an Arudha in the 11th house flourishes, the strength and disposition of Venus as the 11th-house karaka is decisive.
Karaka — Jupiter as Intellect / Dharma Controller
Source: class-59, class-60
Jupiter controls the intellect. When Rahu conjuncts Jupiter (Guru Chanda Yoga), the intellect is obstructed — it exists but cannot function properly. Jupiter aspects 5th and 9th houses because his desire is to give children, ability, and dharma. Jupiter is the karaka for fortune; during Jupiter dasha, fortune-related yogas fully manifest.
Karaka — Saturn as Karma Driver
Source: class-59
Saturn's fundamental agenda is to make people work. He desires to give initiative (parakrama) so people can fulfill karma faster and attain moksha sooner. His special aspects (3rd and 10th from himself) reflect this desire. Saturn in Lagna is Maranakara Sthana for Saturn — he is asked to give health and vitality, which he does not know how to provide.
Karaka — Mars as Aggressor / Enemy Crusher
Source: class-59, class-60
Mars represents aggressive pursuit of enemies. In Arudha analysis, Mars in the Arudha Lagna gives an aggressive image. In the 6th house from Arudha Lagna, Mars aspecting makes a person appear to fight hard and crush enemies. Mars in 7th house is his Maranakara Sthana — he is asked to make relationships harmonious, which is against his nature.
Karaka — Mercury as Scholar / Adaptive Intelligence
Source: class-59
Mercury is highly adaptive — he takes on the nature of planets he associates with (like a transparent paper taking the color of what is beneath it). He has no fixed nature of his own. His Maranakara Sthana is the 7th house (relationship/love, which he doesn't understand). He thrives in 4th, 6th, 8th houses because those relate to scholarship, argument, and sudden learning challenges. Mercury in 8th house makes a person very widely learned across many subjects.
Karaka — Rahu as Obstructor of Luminaries
Source: class-59
Rahu's core nature is to eclipse Sun and Moon — blocking the soul's light and the mind's perception. He does not take the full nature of sign or associated planet; he tries to obstruct them. Rahu's Maranakara Sthana is the 9th house (dharma) — asked to uphold dharma, Rahu must work so hard at it that everything else is set aside. Rahu in Guru Chanda Yoga obstructs Jupiter/intellect.
Karaka — Ketu as Moksha Giver
Source: class-59
Ketu has a single-pointed focus: moksha. He has no Maranakara Sthana because wherever he is placed, he detaches the native from the results of that house and steers toward liberation. Ketu in the 8th house makes a great sadhaka. Ketu in 12th from Atmakaraka in Navamsa is the primary moksha indicator (pure benefic aspects = moksha this life; malefic aspects = close but not complete).
v1 Batch 7 — Classes 61–70
Karakas — Batch 7 (v61–v70)
class-61
Atmakaraka / Natural Karakas in Dasamsa
- Chart: Dick Cheney (30 Jan 1941, 7:30 PM, Lincoln NE). Scorpio Dasamsa Lagna. Mars and Saturn are in the 10th house of Dasamsa → natural significators of power, secretive work, and authority.
- Ghattika Lagna (in 5th house of power/command in Dasamsa) shows command over others; its association with Raja yoga planets magnifies the executive power.
- Lagna lord is always the primary karaka for the person's health and overall existence; Lagna lord in 9th = independent, won't listen to others.
class-62
Hora Lord as Karaka of the Activity
- Hora lord = king/ruler who controls the entire activity begun in that hora. He is the karaka (significator) for that activity's outcome.
- Kala lords show the general appropriateness of activities in that 1.5-hour segment; they are not the same as hora lord.
class-64
Functional Karakas: Karyesha
- Karyesha = the planet whose house signification is in question: 10th lord for career, 7th lord for marriage, 9th lord for dharma, 4th lord for learning, 8th lord for tapasya.
- For mundane charts the 10th house lord represents the ruler/head of state; 3rd house = the opposition party.
- Manakarka Sthana (Marana Karaka Sthana): the house where a planet is forced to perform a function it is most uncomfortable with. Examples: Saturn in Lagna (forced to give health), Jupiter in 3rd (forced to give courage/weapons), Moon in 8th.
class-65
Palana Devata via Amatyakaraka
- Palana Devata is found by counting the 6th house from the Amatyakaraka in the Navamsa. The planet occupying or ruling that house is the Palana Devata — the deity that sustains/protects the person.
- For the alcoholism chart: Amatyakaraka → 6th in Navamsa = Saturn → Palana Devata is Saturn → recommend Kali worship.
class-69
Nakshatra Lord as Mental Karaka
- The lord of the nakshatra occupied by Moon controls the mental state. He is a very important planet for the mind. However, strengthening him is appropriate only if he is functionally benefic; if he is a malefic functional planet, strengthening him through gemstones can be harmful.
- Example (chart: 26 May 1923, 4:37 AM, Nellore): Moon's nakshatra lord is Ketu (8th lord in Lagna). Ketu+Jupiter in Lagna = moksha yoga; Ketu is excellent for spirituality but not for material mental stability. Do NOT wear cat's eye.
Parivarthana and Result Exchange
- When two planets exchange signs (Parivarthana), the result exchange is triggered only when the Dasha-Antardasha of those planets arrives. Moon-Mars Parivarthana: in Moon Mahadasha, Moon Antardasha (before Mars Antardasha begins) Moon gives its own results; after Mars Antardasha triggers the exchange, Moon behaves as Mars for the whole Mahadasha.
class-70
Karakas in Concentrated Multi-Planet House
- Chart (Arun, 28 Mar 1980, 6:43 AM, Boston): Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Moon, Saturn, Ketu, Mercury all in/near Leo in Rashi — result exchange applies within Saptamsha Amsha Dasha: planets exchange results with their counterpart by benefic ranking (most benefic ↔ least benefic). Jupiter ↔ Rahu (exchange blocked by close conjunction — both give own results), Moon ↔ Saturn (exchange), Mars gives own results, Mercury ↔ Ketu results.
- Atmakaraka + Putrakaraka conjunction = Raja Yoga (in annual chart: Venus AK + Mercury PK in 9th house = double Raja Yoga).
- Karyesha for marriage = Upapada Lagna. Second lord from Upapada shows who brings the marriage. Rahu/Ketu association with Upapada or 2nd from UL = relationship with a foreigner (someone from a culture different from one's own).
v1 Batch 8 — Classes 71–80
Karakas — Batch 8 (Classes 71–80)
Class 71 — Bhrigu Bindu & Saptamsha Karakas
- Venus as marriage karaka (project manager analogy): Venus is the karaka for marriage. If Venus is weak, debilitated, or occupies a bad house, the "project manager" of marriage is compromised. When Venus is the sixth lord in the natal chart the project manager's agenda is bachelorhood.
- Mars as karaka for real estate and property: Consistently mentioned across classes 71–73 as the natural karaka for land, property, and home.
- Moon and Jupiter as marriage karakas in Navamsa Dasha: Moon-Jupiter period indicates marriage; Mars-Mars period indicates divorce or fighting within marriage.
- Second lord from UL (Upapada Lagna) as the sustainer and bringer of marriage: The second lord from UL brings the marriage into existence and sustains it; one should fast on the day ruled by UL lord and pray to the deity of the second lord from UL.
Class 72 — D4 (Chaturamsha) Karakas
- Mars as karaka for real estate in D4: Mars is the natural karaka for property. His placement in D4 determines happiness from property. Malefic Mars dashas show property troubles; benefic dashas show property happiness.
- Jupiter as Hora lord karaka: Jupiter as hora lord of a Tithi Pravesh chart placed in the fourth house with fourth-fifth lord parivartana is a strong indicator of buying/acquiring a home.
- Sun as lagna lord in MKS (Marana Karaka Sthana): Sun in twelfth house in D4 Tithi Pravesh = death to current residence (likely to move/leave current home).
- Venus as third and tenth lord in D4 Tithi Pravesh Lagna: Shows initiative and investment in property; Venus in Lagna of D4 Tithi Pravesh also in A4 shows strong auspiciousness for acquiring a house.
Class 73 — Karaka Review
- Ketu as karaka for Moksha: Ketu in 4th from Karakamsha = Moksha; Ketu in 12th from Karakamsha = Ganesha devotee and spiritual liberation.
- Rahu as Gnaathakaraka (karaka of suffering/disease at soul level): Rahu as Gnaathakaraka in sixth house with debilitated Sun and Mars shows severe physical disability/disease.
- Saturn as karaka for muscles: Saturn rules muscle tissue in the body. Sun rules bones, Moon rules blood, Mars rules nervous system, Mercury rules rasa dhatu (skin/connective tissue), Jupiter rules fat, Venus rules sexual fluids/reproductive system.
Class 74 — Marriage Chart Karakas
- Jupiter as seventh lord karaka for marriage: Jupiter as seventh lord aspecting UL and seventh house can give marriage; when Jupiter-Ketu are in Navamsa Lagna he mediates between Sun (material dharma) and Ketu (moksha desire) to enable marriage.
- Atmakaraka dasha: The Vimshottari or any nakshatra dasha of the Atmakaraka is typically difficult materially — the Atma wants to shine by removing material layers. Atmakaraka dasha is good only if AK is in Raja Yoga with Putra Karaka or Ishta Devata.
- Mars as Atmakaraka in divorce case: Mars as AK running Mars dasha awakened the desire for marriage in a woman who had been disinterested for a decade.
Class 75 — D2 (Hora) Karakas
- Rahu as tenth lord in D2: Rahu as tenth lord having Argala on the Hora Lagna sign = wealth accumulated through professional work (salary, bonuses, stock options).
- Moon as third lord in twelfth house of D2: Indicates investment-based gains from foreign countries or distant places.
- Mercury as Lagna lord in D2 with multiple yogas: Strong candidate for financial gains when multiple Arudhas agree.
Class 76 — Career and Wealth Karakas
- Saturn as Yogakaraka for career and fortune: When Saturn owns both a Kendra and a Trikona, he becomes Yogakaraka; his dasha gives career rise and financial gains simultaneously.
- Jupiter as karaka for knowledge and wisdom: In the tenth house of Navamsa, Jupiter's presence connected to financial instability; in fifth or ninth house of Navamsa, gives spiritual wisdom.
Class 77 — Jaimini Karakas (Chara Karakas)
- Chara Karakas are calculated using planetary degrees; the planet with highest degree in any sign becomes Atmakaraka (AK). The seven-karaka scheme: AK, AmK, BK, MK, PuK, GK, DK.
- Atmakaraka in Navamsa = Swamsa / Karakamsha; planetary positions from Karakamsha determine life's spiritual and material qualities.
- Saturn in trines from Karakamsha: Gives concentration, discipline, history, Hatha Yoga ability.
- Venus in trines from Karakamsha: Gives eye for detail, quality assurance, perfectionism.
- Jupiter in trines from Karakamsha: Gives knowledge, spirituality, teaching ability.
- Rahu in trines from Karakamsha: Gives research orientation, unconventional thinking.
- Ketu+Jupiter in trines from Karakamsha: Gives tradition, parampara teaching, orthodox knowledge systems.
Class 78 — Navamsa Mapping Karakas
- Rahu in tenth house of Navamsa (from Karakamsha): Bad for finances, financial instability.
- Ketu in fourth house of Navamsa (from Karakamsha): Moksha indication.
- Malefics in tenth from Karakamsha: Financial instability throughout life.
- Benefics in 12th from Karakamsha: Auspicious afterlife, good post-death state.
Class 79 — Jaimini Karakas — Ishta Devata / Deity Indicators from 12th from Karakamsha
- Sun+Ketu in 12th from Karakamsha: Shiva devotee.
- Moon in 12th from Karakamsha: Gauri/Kali devotee — form varies by lunar phase (Paksha) and tithi at birth.

v1 Batch 9 — Classes 81–90
Karakas — Batch 9 (classes 81–90)
class-83 | Saturn — Karaka for Disease and Suffering
Saturn as universal project manager for disease:
- Saturn is the significator (karaka) for all disease and suffering — he is the "project manager."
- When Saturn's Dasha coincides with the Dasha of a planet that rules the 6th or 8th house, they join to deliver disease.
- Saturn alone in a good dasha does not necessarily give disease — he needs a connection to 6th/8th house rulers or their placements.
Special note: Saturn being karaka for disease also makes him karaka for the mother's suffering (Moon = mother, Saturn afflicting Moon = trouble for mother). However, this is a coincidental overlap, not a direct rule.
class-83 | Moon — Karaka for Mother
Moon as mother's karaka:
- Moon is the primary karaka for mother in natal chart analysis.
- For seeing mother's condition: use L4 (Arudha of 4th lord) as the reference lagna, not just Moon's sign.
- Moon in Badhaka sthana for the lagna + afflicted by Saturn, Rahu, Ketu = mother's suffering/ill health.
- Moon as 8th lord from L4 being afflicted = threat to mother's longevity.
class-83/84 | Venus — Karaka for Marriage
Venus's Argala in Navamsa:
- Venus is the primary karaka for marriage in Navamsa.
- Checking Argala on Venus in Navamsa: planets with unobstructed Argala on Venus will fulfill Venus's agenda (marriage) in their Antardasha.
- When Venus and Lagna lord exchange in Navamsa, it is a very powerful indication for marriage being dharmically significant.
Gemstone rule: Venus's gemstone (diamond) accentuates whatever Venus is giving — if Venus is a strong Lagna lord, diamond accentuates health and prosperity; if Venus is 8th lord for a specific lagna, diamond accentuates 8th house matters.
class-83/84 | Jupiter — Karaka for Children (5th house)
Context from class-84: In an annual Tithi Pravesh chart for a marriage, the child's birth was tracked through Argala on the 5th house. Jupiter and Saturn in the 11th house (forming 5th house Argala on Capricorn — the 5th in the chart) were identified as key planets for giving children.
Jupiter as 5th lord exalted (annual chart): When the annual chart's 5th lord is exalted (even retrograde), with Saturn, it shows strong childbirth potential. Jupiter karaka + 5th lord = double indication.
class-81/82 | Karaka on Arudha Lagna
A8 (Arudha of 8th house) = Mrityupada / Kashtapada:
- Planets with Argala on A8 indicate who will give suffering/anxiety in their dasha.
- Unobstructed Argala by a malefic on A8 = manifest suffering in that dasha.
- Single-planet Argala on A8 = minimal suffering (Kanishtha).
A6 (Arudha of 6th house):
- Argala on A6 = who promotes tangible enmity and fear of enemies (Shatru Bhayam).
- Multiple planets with strong unobstructed Argala on A6 = the native has many tangible enemies throughout life.
- Sun, Rahu, Ketu with unobstructed Argala on A6 = enemies are persistent and public.
class-82 | Karaka for Diseases by Type
Saturn (Tamasic): Chronic diseases, cancers (if Tamasic interpretation), wasting conditions.
Ketu (Tamasic): Undiagnosable conditions, diseases that defy conventional medicine.
Rahu (Tamasic): Unusual/strange diseases, foreign pathogen origins.
Jupiter/Venus (Rajasic): Tumor/overgrowth conditions (too much of a good thing — excessive cell growth).
Mars: Inflammatory conditions, injuries, infections.
class-88 | Moon — Karaka for Mental Faculty
Moon's role in mental health:
- Mental stability and clarity = primarily Moon's domain (Mercury is secondary for cognitive functions).
- Sun: Not directly mental — Sun rules respect and authority image in society.
- Moon debilitated in D30 + with Saturn = severe mental faculty depletion.
- Moon in Gandanta in Rashi + afflicted in D30 = compounded mental instability.
Remedy karaka: When Moon is the problem, propitiate a divine mother form (Parvati, Durga, Kali, Chandi, Bhuvaneshwari). Kali is best when Moon-Saturn combination is the core problem (especially in Scorpio).
class-88 | Mercury — Karaka for Intelligence and Speech
Mercury's role:
- Primary karaka for intellect, communication, speech.
- Mercury with Papakartari in D30 = speech problems, cognitive processing issues.
- Mercury as 7th lord in 7th house = strongest Maraka for spouse (from L4 perspective for mother analysis).
class-81 | Planets on Argala — Acting as Karakas for Houses
Key insight: When a planet forms Argala on a house, it is effectively acting as an additional karaka for that house's matters during its dasha period. Any planet with strong unobstructed Argala on the 9th house becomes a fortune-giver (karaka-like function) in its dasha, regardless of whether it is the formal 9th lord.
Example: Moon with unobstructed Argala on the 9th house → Moon's Antardasha gives fortune, even though Moon may not own the 9th house.
class-89 | Venus — Karaka for Marriage and Dharma (Navamsa)
Navamsa Venus:
- Venus in Navamsa = primary indicator of dharmic marriage.
- Argala on Venus in Navamsa = support for marriage.
- Venus + Lagna lord in Navamsa = Yogakaraka combination for marriage dharma.
- Venus exalted in Navamsa 11th house = fulfillment of marriage desire.
- Venus as 4th lord exalted in D24 = educational acceleration in Venus Dasha.
class-82 | Rahu — Tamo Graha (Karaka Reversal)
Rahu as Tamo Graha:
- Rahu (and Ketu) are classified as Tamo Grahas — their Argala and Badha rules are reversed from all other planets.
- Normal planets: Argala from 2nd, 4th, 5th, 11th; Badha from 12th, 10th, 9th, 3rd.
- Rahu/Ketu: Argala from 12th, 3rd, 10th; Badha from 2nd, 4th, 11th.
- Parashara's Sanskrit: "Tamo grahach ya teyathmi" (approximately — rule for dark-natured planets is reversed).

Chara Karakas (Jaimini Karakas)
The 7 (or 8) Chara Karakas are determined by the degrees of planets in each sign. The planet with the highest degree = Atmakaraka; second-highest = Amatyakaraka, and so on.
CK-001 · Atmakaraka (AK) — Soul's Significator
Source: class-07 The planet with the highest degree in its sign (ignoring Rahu). Represents the soul's prime lesson in this lifetime. If Mars is AK, the soul must learn to channel Mars energy (courage, initiative, discipline) properly. "Mars is Atmakaraka... Mars is debilitated and in Gandanta — Oh my God." The AK in Vimshamsa shows the spiritual path.
CK-002 · Amatyakaraka (AmK) — Career/Mind Significator
Source: class-10 Second-highest degree. Shows career ability and the type of mind. Jupiter as Amatyakaraka: career involves teaching, wisdom, counseling, management. The 6th lord from AmK in Navamsa shows the Palana Devata (sustaining deity for career and worldly life).
CK-003 · Bhratru Karaka (BK) — Sibling/Teacher Significator
Source: class-07 Third-highest degree. Shows siblings (co-born) and — crucially in spiritual analysis — the spiritual master (guru). When BK has Graha Drishti on the Dasha sign in Drig Saptadasha, a guru may come. "Bhratru Karaka has a Graha Drishti on the 7th house — there is a desire to meet a guru during this life."
CK-004 · Matru Karaka (MK) — Mother Significator

So you worship somebody corresponding to Moon, he will give you big following." PK in Saptamsa shows the condition of children.
CK-006 · Gnati Karaka (GK) — Rivals/Disease Significator
Source: context established Sixth-highest degree. Shows rivals, competitors, diseases, and obstacles. GK in the 6th or 8th house in Rasi → persistent health challenges.
CK-007 · Dara Karaka (DK) — Spouse/Partnership Significator
Source: class-10 Seventh-lowest degree (or 7th in rank). Shows the spouse and key partnerships. "The seventh house is the relationship, and Darakaraka is the source that you associate with. So if you look at the seventh house from Darakaraka in Navamsa... that shows the Devata who will be protecting you in all your dealings."

- Venus — vehicles, comforts, pleasures
- Mercury — education (some authorities; debated)
- Mars — land, property (as ruler of immovable assets in some traditions)
- Usage in class: When 4L is placed in various houses, PVR consistently tests whether the Moon or Venus also aspects/occupies those houses to modify results. "The Moon shows the mind; if Moon is afflicted in a chart where 4L is also weak, mental disturbance is compounded."
Karaka 31.2 — Fifth House Karakas
- Source: class-33, class-34
- House: Fifth house (intelligence, children, past karma, mantra, devotion, creative works)
- Natural karakas:
- Jupiter — children (primary), intelligence, wisdom, guru-bhakti
- Sun — authority/merit from past karma; royalty; mantra (some traditions)
- Mercury — analytical intelligence, calculation, skill
- Usage in class:
- When 5L is in 8H (PVR's own chart), Jupiter aspects are critical to whether children or intelligence suffers.
- "Jupiter aspecting the fifth house can mitigate even 5L in 6H" (class-33).
- Saturn debilitated as 5L (PVR's case) gave academic achievements because Neechabhanga was present; Jupiter's role as karaka was sustained.
Karaka 31.3 — Sixth House Karakas

- House: Sixth house (diseases, enemies, obstacles, debts, service, litigation)
- Natural karakas:
- Mars — acute diseases, surgery, enemies, conflict
- Saturn — chronic disease, servants, labor, obstacles over time
- Mercury — litigation, disputes, legal documents (in some traditions)

- Jupiter — spouse (for females in some traditions)
- Mercury — business partnerships, contracts
- Usage in class:
- VE7 Special Lagna is built on Venus as the karaka of marriage + speed factor 7 for the seventh house (class-39).
- "Venus is the karaka of the seventh house. That is why we use VE7 — Venus times 7 — to research marriage timing."
- When 7L is in 6H, the enemy/disease energy afflicts partnership; Venus weakened there may indicate difficult marriage.
Karaka 31.5 — Eighth House Karakas
- Source: class-39
- House: Eighth house (longevity, sudden events, inheritance, occult, transformation, chronic disease, in-laws)
- Natural karakas:
- Saturn — longevity (primary), chronic conditions, delays
- Rahu — occult, foreign, hidden/taboo matters
- Mars — sudden violent events, surgery

- Marriage, romantic love
- Vehicles, comforts, beauty
- Arts, music, luxury
- Semen/reproductive energy
- Seventh house (as natural significator)

- Digbala note: Venus has Digbala in 4H (by some authorities) or 7H, connecting Venus's comfort + marriage karaka energy with its maximum directional strength.
Karaka 32.2 — Jupiter as Karaka of Children, Wisdom, and Husband

- Chronic disease, chronic delays
- Discipline, asceticism
- Digbala in 7H — partnerships, longevity of contracts
- Usage in class:
- PVR's Saturn as 5L in Aries (debilitated, Neechabhanga): Saturn Dasha gave academic achievements = Neechabhanga RY operating through Saturn itself, not the assisting planet (class-34).
- In VE7 marriage example (class-39): Saturn Antardasha with Saturn in Virgo (same sign as VE7) connected the 7th from VE7 to the natal Lagna through dispositorship — Saturn's karaka of longevity + persistence contributed to the committed marriage event.

- In US 2009 Lunar New Year chart: Sun (Amavasya Yoga conjunction with Moon) in 10H = government troubles; "Sun afflicts the ruling party" (class-40).
- Sun's hora lordship in a Lunar New Year chart makes the year more authoritative, centralized-power-oriented.
Karaka 32.6 — Moon as Karaka of Mind, Mother, and Masses

- Illusion, deception, hallucination
- Worldly desires, materialism
- Amplification of whatever planet or house it joins
- Poisons, epidemics, mass delusions
- Special role in Kala Amrita Yoga: When all planets are on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis, Rahu controls the "mouth" of the serpent — swallowing all planetary energy. The person's entire chart is consumed by Rahu's direction of travel (class-31, Asha's chart).
- Usage in mundane: Rahu with Jupiter in 8H of US 2009 chart = "expands the crisis, Jupiter's optimism is consumed by Rahu in the 8th" (class-40).

- Detachment, renunciation
- Occult and secret knowledge
- Physical ailments related to past karma (legs, mysterious diseases)
- Usage in class: In Asha's chart (class-31): Ketu represents past karma and physical affliction. The Rahu-Ketu axis in the chart together with Kala Amrita Yoga = the entire chart is consumed by the nodal axis. Ketu at the "tail" of the serpent = the release point = spiritual practice as remedy.
Karaka 34.1 — Karaka of the Hora Lord (Mundane)

- Hora sequence: Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars (repeating hourly)
- Examples from 2009:
- Moon = hora lord (US, Washington DC): Year dominated by public mood, masses, emotional events, water-related issues
- Mars = hora lord (India, New Delhi): Year dominated by military, competition, elections, aggression
Karaka 35.1 — Upapada Lagna Lord and Second from Upapada — Marriage Karakas
- Source: class-35, class-36
- Concept: The Upapada Lagna (Arudha of the 12th house) and its lord are the primary karakas for marriage in the Jaimini tradition used by PVR. The lord of the sign of Upapada represents what sustains the marriage; the second from Upapada is both the sustainer and potential destroyer.
- Key rule: If the second lord from UL is strong and friendly to UL lord → marriage sustained. If weak, inimical, or afflicted → marriage breaks.
- PVR quote (class-35): "What you need — when you don't have it, you are in trouble. Second lord from Upapada is a Maraka for marriage, yes."
v2 Batch 5 — Classes 41–50
Karakas — Batch 5 (v2 Classes 41–50)
Karaka — Atmakaraka (AK)
Source: v43, v44 Significations: The planet with the highest longitude (degrees within its sign, regardless of sign) in the natal chart. Represents the soul's core lesson and primary desire in this lifetime. The AK's placement in D9 (Navamsa) and the 12th house from AK in Navamsa reveals the Ishta Devata (soul's chosen deity). Body-parts: The AK governs the soul's weakest physical area — the lesson often manifests through physical vulnerability in the body part ruled by the AK's sign or planet type. Relations: The AK is the most important planet in Jaimini astrology but also significant in the Parashari-Jaimini synthesis taught by PVR. Notes: Each planet can become AK depending on degrees. The AK is not a fixed planet — it must be calculated for each chart. The 12th from AK in D9 (Karakamsha 12th) = Ishta Devata house.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha) as Education Karaka
Source: v47, v49, v50 Significations: Mercury is the primary karaka (natural significator) of education (vidya), learning, intellect, discrimination, analytical ability, communication, trade, and young people's education. In divisional chart D24 (Siddhamsha), Mercury's placement determines the Budha Lagna — an alternate lagna for reading the D24. Body-parts: Nervous system, skin, vocal cords, tongue, hands (writing instruments of learning). Relations: Rules Gemini (communication, learning agility) and Virgo (analytical precision, perfection in craft). Mercury is closely related to Jupiter (the guru who transmits knowledge that Mercury processes and communicates). Notes: In D24, Mercury's house position creates the Budha Lagna. Planets in good positions from Budha Lagna in D24 confirm educational strength. Mercury afflicted in D24 or D30 indicates educational or nervous system problems respectively.
Karaka — Jupiter (Guru) as Children and Teacher Karaka
Source: v43, v44, v49, v50 Significations: Jupiter is the primary karaka of children (Putra karaka), guru/teacher, wisdom, dharma, higher learning, religious knowledge, wealth through dharmic means, and expansion. Body-parts: Liver, fat tissue, hips/thighs, ears (hearing of the guru's wisdom). Relations: Father in terms of spiritual/dharmic father (biological father is more Sun); husband's significator in a woman's chart. Rules Sagittarius (dharmic wisdom, travel for learning) and Pisces (spiritual dissolution, moksha, compassion). Notes: Jupiter as 9th lord in D24 (Cancer lagna case, v49–v50) = higher education signified. Jupiter's Dasha in D24 analyzed from both D24 lagna and from Budha Lagna simultaneously. Jupiter's aspect on a weak planet reduces the severity of its problems.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra) as Spouse/Relationship Karaka
Source: v48 Significations: Venus is the primary karaka of spouse (wife/partner), beauty, arts, luxury, vehicles, reproductive fluids, marriage, pleasures of life, and material comforts. Body-parts: Kidneys, reproductive system, face, eyes (beauty), throat, genital area. Relations: Wife/female partner for male charts; for female charts, Venus still shows beauty and relationship style. Venus rules Taurus (accumulated pleasures, beauty) and Libra (partnerships, balance, aesthetics). Notes: When Venus loses Graha Yuddha (as in Proddatur woman's chart, v48), all 7th house matters (marriage, partnerships, happiness) are severely damaged. Diamond is the gemstone for Venus strengthening. Friday is Venus's day for remedial worship/gemstone activation.
Karaka — Mars (Mangala) as Courage/Land Karaka
Source: v43, v48 Significations: Mars is the primary karaka of courage (parakrama), land/real estate, siblings (co-borns), enemies (wins over enemies), muscles, blood, fire, surgery, warriors, and brothers. Body-parts: Muscles, blood, bone marrow, head (forehead), genitals (along with Venus), right ear. Relations: Younger siblings (especially brothers). Rules Aries (pioneering courage, raw energy) and Scorpio (hidden power, research, occult, transformation). Notes: Mars as Yogakaraka for Cancer and Leo lagnas (5th and 10th lord respectively for Cancer lagna) gives career success in technical/engineering fields. Hanuman is the deity associated with Mars — Hanuman worship as Mars remedy (v43). Mars winning Graha Yuddha over Venus (v48) showed Mars's aggressive significations dominating the relationship sphere.
Karaka — Saturn (Shani) as Longevity and Suffering Karaka
Source: v42, v43, v48 Significations: Saturn is the karaka of longevity (Ayus), chronic disease, old age, servitude, bones/teeth, patience, discipline, hard work, and karmic lessons. Also significator of the 8th house (hidden suffering) and 12th house (losses and liberation). Body-parts: Bones, teeth, skin (dryness), joints, knees, nervous system's structural elements. Relations: Elderly people, servants, low-caste individuals, workers. Rules Capricorn (structure, discipline, time, karma) and Aquarius (social reform, detachment, humanitarian work). Notes: Saturn's transits (Sade Sati, Kantakashani) are major life disruptors. Saturn in D30 represents chronic suffering and karmic debt. Saturn + Moon in D30 = depression. Shani remedies: Saturday worship, sesame oil lamps, Hanuman worship (protection from Sade Sati).
Karaka — Moon (Chandra) as Mind Karaka
Source: v42, v48 Significations: Moon is the karaka of mind (manas), emotions, mother, nourishment, comfort, public masses, water bodies, cycles, monthly rhythms, and intuition. Body-parts: Left eye, lungs, breasts, stomach, glands producing fluids. Relations: Mother is the primary relationship (Moon = mother). The Moon represents the public/masses in mundane astrology. Notes: Moon's placement in D30 (Trimsamsa) shows the fundamental mental health foundation. Moon + malefics in D30 = psychological suffering. Sade Sati and Kantakashani are both calculated from natal Moon. Moon as 6th lord in D16 (Shashi's case) = vehicle accident indicator (v42).
Karaka — Sun (Surya) as Soul and Father Karaka
Source: v41, v42 Significations: Sun is the karaka of the soul (Atma in the material sense — ego-soul), father, government/authority, career (alongside 10th house), vitality, leadership, politics, rulers. Body-parts: Heart, right eye, bones (Sun governs the life force in bones alongside Saturn), head/hair. Relations: Father (biological); rulers; employers; government officials. Rules Leo (royal dignity, leadership, self-expression). Notes: Sun in lagna → Sashtiyogi (60-year) Dasha applicable (v42). Sun-Moon conjunction = Amavasya Yoga — forceful, single-pointed energy in the house occupied (v41). Sun does not participate in Graha Yuddha. Sun as Atmakaraka in some charts represents the soul's dominant desire for self-expression and leadership.
v2 Batch 6 — Classes 51–60
Karakas — Batch 6 (classes 51–60)
Karaka — Fire (Agni / Pavaka)
- Source: class-52
- Significations: Purification, transformation, burning away impurities, carrier of offerings (Havyavahana = carrier of oblations to the gods), heat, light, spiritual power amplification
- Body-parts: Digestive fire (Jatharagni), eyes (as fire), febrile conditions
- Relations: Intermediary between the human (yajamanam) and the divine; Fire is the cosmic medium through which mantra japa is amplified
- Notes: PVR notes fire has Pitta-type vibrations. Sitting near fire during homam amplifies mantra approximately 3x compared to ordinary japa for an average practitioner. Pavaka = purifier (one of the three Vedic names for fire). The fire carries the vibrations of whatever mantra is used during homam to Indra and the gods.
Karaka — Jupiter (Brihaspati / Guru)
- Source: class-54, class-60
- Significations: Knowledge, dharma, taxes, teachers, laws, optimism, expansion, religious taxes, fees paid to authorities, educational institutions, spiritual advisors
- Body-parts: Liver, fat tissue (meda dhatu), thighs
- Relations: 12th from AL → Jupiter causes expenses through taxes and educational/dharmic payments; In prashna, Jupiter aspecting lagna lord = divine sanction for the question
- Notes: In Upapada context (class-57): exalted Jupiter in 2nd from UL → spouse comes from a very good family with nobility. Jupiter + Saturn in Martian sign in UL → eye/ear diseases for spouse. Jupiter in 11th from AL → gains through dharma, teaching, law.
Karaka — Saturn (Shani)
- Source: class-52, class-54, class-57, class-60
- Significations: Longevity, hard work, service, masses, servants, bones (asthi dhatu), chronic diseases, delays, slow progress, karma, Sade Sati effects, brothers (as co-karaka with Mars for expenses in 12th from AL)
- Body-parts: Bones (asthi dhatu), teeth, joints, knees, skin (from Vata perspective), nerves (as slow decay)
- Relations: Saturn + Mars in Mercurial or Martian signs in UL → breathing/nasal diseases for spouse; Saturn + Rahu + Sun in UL → bone fever; 12th from AL with Saturn → brothers cause loss or expenses
- Notes: Divisional chart transit: Saturn over Dasamsa Moon = career Sade Sati; Saturn over Navamsa Moon = marital Sade Sati. Saturn in 2nd from UL + Rahu → scandal and public loss. Saturn as 4th lord (class-53) → world thinks you deny yourself comfort/movement.
Karaka — Rahu
- Source: class-54, class-55, class-56, class-57, class-60
- Significations: Foreign connections, unconventional paths, obsession, ambition, smoke/illusion, irregular earning, fat body (as karaka), teeth (Rahu in 2nd from 7th lord of UL → large/prominent teeth), intestines (Rahu as co-karaka with Ketu for digestive tract)
- Body-parts: Intestines, colon, skin diseases, swelling, fat accumulation
- Relations: Rahu in 7th from AL → digestive argala on 5th; Rahu in 12th from AL → foreign/unconventional income source; Mercury + Rahu in UL → fat/obese spouse; Saturn + Rahu + Sun in UL → bone fever; Saturn + Rahu in 2nd from UL → scandal
- Notes: Rahu's association with large teeth comes from its severed head (no body) — the head/mouth aspect dominates. Rahu in 2nd from 7th lord of UL: native's speech/looks amplified in an unusual direction.
Karaka — Ketu
- Source: class-55, class-57, class-59
- Significations: Separation, withdrawal, moksha, past karma, surgery, perforations, insects/worms, spirituality, independence from material world, 7th from AL (sahasi/warrior projection), digestive tract (shared with Rahu)
- Body-parts: Intestines, perforations, worms/parasites, tail/lower intestine
- Relations: Ketu + Venus in UL → blood diseases for spouse; Ketu + Mercury in UL → bone disorders for spouse; Ketu in 7th from AL → sahasi (brave/warrior-like image projected), vridha-kesi (unusual hair/features)
- Notes: Ketu in 2nd from 7th lord of UL → speech problems for spouse. Ketu's separative nature applied to UL significations = disruptions in the marriage's tangible indicators. Ketu + functional malefic in 7th from AL = image of unconventional/eccentric persona.
Karaka — Mars (Mangala / Kuja)
- Source: class-51, class-54, class-57, class-58
- Significations: Brothers, courage, blood, surgery, nerve tissue (majja dhatu), energy, aggression, fire, land, muscles, injuries, initiative
- Body-parts: Blood (rakta dhatu), muscles (mamsa dhatu), nerve tissue (majja dhatu in some interpretations), bile (Pitta)
- Relations: Mars as D3 lagna lord in 6th → majja dhatu affliction in prashna health context; 12th from AL with Mars → brothers cause expenses; Mars + Saturn in Mercurial/Martian sign in UL → breathing/nasal diseases for spouse
- Notes: Mars signifies nerve tissue (majja dhatu) in the Drekkana context for the specific health question analyzed in class-51 (hand/shoulder pain). Mars + Saturn combination in respiratory/dual signs creates the breathing-nasal ailment pattern.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha)
- Source: class-53, class-54, class-57, class-58, class-59
- Significations: Communication, relatives, aunts/uncles/cousins, trade, intellect, calculation, words (padam), written/spoken expression, duality
- Body-parts: Skin (tvacha), nervous system (via communication between parts), intestines (Mercury rules Virgo = intestinal tract)
- Relations: 12th from AL with Mercury → expenses through relatives; Mercury + Ketu in UL → bone diseases; Mercury + Rahu in UL → fat spouse; Gemini (Mercury's dual sign) in UL → multiple marriages
- Notes: Mercury as "padam" (word/symbol) is the central karaka teaching in class-53 — Mercury rules the linguistic/communicative layer that makes arudha padas visible and communicable to the outer world.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra)
- Source: class-54, class-57, class-58, class-59
- Significations: Luxury items, vehicles, comforts, spouse (as Darakaraka), semen/reproductive fluids, beauty, aesthetics, marital happiness, blood (as rasa/lymph)
- Body-parts: Reproductive system, kidneys, blood (as rasa dhatu), face/beauty
- Relations: 12th from AL with Venus (or Sun or Rahu) → luxury-related expenses; Ketu + Venus in UL → blood diseases for spouse; Venus in 2nd from 7th lord of UL → spouse fascinated by native's physical feature (big eyes, etc.)
- Notes: Venus in 11th from AL (via argala or placement) → unobstructed luxury and fulfilment of desires. Exalted Venus in 7th from AL → wealth + satkirti (good reputation from marital/partner interaction).
Karaka — Sun (Surya)
- Source: class-52, class-54, class-57
- Significations: Government, authority, father, soul (atmakaraka in Jaimini), vitality, ego, bones (as bone framework), heart
- Body-parts: Heart, eyes, bones (spine specifically), Pitta dosha constitution
- Relations: Sun in 12th from AL (with Venus or Rahu) → luxury-related expenses; Saturn + Rahu + Sun in UL → bone fever (Pitta-type);
- Notes: Sun represents government/king archetype — when the native has exalted Sun in 7th from AL, their public image is associated with authority and nobility. PVR notes Sun in Dhirubhai Ambani's chart as a key indicator of his governmental/national-scale interactions.
Karaka — Moon (Chandra)
- Source: class-52, class-53, class-60
- Significations: Mind, emotions, mother, public/masses, water, nourishment, milk, Rasa dhatu (plasma/lymph)
- Body-parts: Mind (manas), chest/lungs, lymphatic system, left eye (in males)
- Relations: Moon in divisional charts = Sade Sati reference for that domain (Dasamsa Moon → career Sade Sati when Saturn transits it; Navamsa Moon → marital); Cancer Moon in student chart (class-53) → emotional stability, receptive learner
- Notes: Moon's position in Navamsa/Dasamsa is critical for timing using divisional Sade Sati method. Moon as natural karaka of public perception amplifies the arudha system's 4th/11th from AL significations.
v2 Batch 7 — Classes 61–70
Karakas — Batch 7 (v61–v70)
Source: PVR Narasimha Rao, BPHS Chapter 33 Classes
Karaka — Atmakaraka
- Source: Classes 61–69
- Significations: Soul's deepest desire; sense of self (Ahankara); I-ness; the planet that defines the native's identity and primary life lesson; "King" of the horoscope
- Body-parts: Represents the entire self/body as a whole; its Dasha affects the constitution
- Relations: Ruler over all other Chara Karakas; Amatyakaraka is the minister
- Notes: The Atmakaraka is the planet at the highest degree of longitude in the natal chart (0°–30° within sign, ignoring retrograde). It represents Ahankara (ego/I-sense) in Vedantic terms. The Karakamsha is the sign it occupies in a divisional chart. PVR calls it the "Bandha-Moksha Karaka" — it binds through attachment but also holds the key to liberation. The sign of AK in D20 determines the Ishta Devata when read from the 12th house.
Karaka — Amatyakaraka
- Source: Classes 61, 69
- Significations: Sense of mission; purpose in life; minister to the Atmakaraka; what one came to accomplish; career mission (not just job)
- Body-parts: None specific
- Relations: Second only to Atmakaraka among Chara Karakas; serves the AK's agenda
- Notes: The 6th house from Amatyakaraka in D20 shows the struggle (tapasya, effort) involved in fulfilling one's life mission. The Amatyakaraka often shows the area of work through which one fulfills dharma. PVR uses his own chart: AK=Moon, AmK=Mars; 6th from Mars in D20 = Aquarius (Rahu lord) = struggle through unconventional spiritual community work.
Karaka — Sun (Surya)
- Source: Classes 62, 63, 65, 69, 70
- Significations: Authority, government, father, bones, vision (quality of sight), Vedanta, Atma (as Paramatma), soul illumination, fire, royalty
- Body-parts: Bones (especially spine), right eye, heart, vision (not physical eyes)
- Relations: King among Navagrahas; natural enemy of Saturn and Venus
- Notes: In Ayurveda: Pitta constitution. Sun in Karakamsha = government service. Sun in 5th from Karakamsha = sword skill + Vedanta. Sun as 10th house karaka in D6 = vision strength. Sun afflicted by Saturn in D6 or D30 = serious vision or bone problems. Deity: Shiva (Rudra) when Sun influences 12th from AK.
Karaka — Moon (Chandra)
- Source: Classes 62, 63, 65, 69, 70
- Significations: Mind, emotions, mother, liquids, milk, public fame, Sankhya philosophy, Kapha body nature, Parvati/Gauri devotion
- Body-parts: Mind, blood, fluids, left eye, lungs
- Relations: Natural benefic; associated with Kapha; mother's significator
- Notes: Moon in Karakamsha = learned, emotionally sensitive, water/liquid businesses. Moon+Jupiter in 5th from Karakamsha = greatest writer/author combination. Moon in 5th = Sankhya philosophy orientation. Moon sign + lord determines mind's Ayurvedic constitution. Deity: Gauri/Parvati.
Karaka — Mars (Mangala/Kuja)
- Source: Classes 62, 63, 65, 67, 70
- Significations: Aggression, energy, surgery, weapons, Nyaya Shastra, siblings, commander, land
- Body-parts: Muscles, blood, bone marrow, forehead, genitals (co-signified)
- Relations: Pitta planet; enemy of Saturn and Mercury; friend of Sun and Jupiter
- Notes: Mars in Karakamsha = warrior, surgeon, weapon skill. Mars in 5th from Karakamsha = spear skill + Nyaya Shastra. Mars in 9th from Karakamsha with Venus = sensual excess undermining dharma. Mars as Amatyakaraka (PVR's chart) = mission involves fighting/teaching. In Ayurveda: strong Pitta constitution contributor.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha)
- Source: Classes 62, 63, 65, 70
- Significations: Communication, intelligence, analysis, Mimamsa philosophy, trade, writing (lesser than Moon+Jupiter), Paramahamsa quality, adaptability
- Body-parts: Nervous system, skin, speech organs, hands
- Relations: Mixed Vata-Kapha (takes nature of association); natural benefic
- Notes: Mercury in Karakamsha or 5th from Karakamsha = Paramahamsa quality (can communicate to anyone at any level). Mercury = Mimamsa Shastra (analysis/logic). Mercury as 12th lord in D20 = Vishnu bhakta; Ishta Devata is Vishnu. Mercury in 5th from Karakamsha: good writer but less famous than Moon+Jupiter combination.
Karaka — Jupiter (Guru/Brihaspati)
- Source: Classes 62, 63, 67, 70
- Significations: Wisdom, traditional knowledge, dharma, teacher, Vedas/Vedanta, expansion, wealth, Kapha
- Body-parts: Liver, fat, hips (co-signified with 9th house), ears
- Relations: Natural benefic; Kapha planet; enemy of Mercury and Venus
- Notes: Jupiter in Karakamsha = wisdom, traditional learning, may not speak eloquently in public. Jupiter in 5th from Karakamsha = Vedanta knowledge; knows Vedas but may not communicate well. Jupiter+Sun in 9th from Karakamsha = gurudrohi (overconfidence). Jupiter in D30/D6 as functional malefic = health problems despite being Lagna lord in Rasi. Deity when influencing 12th from AK: Shiva/Sadashiva/Dakshinamurti.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra)
- Source: Classes 62, 65, 67, 70

- Body-parts: Physical eyes (size, beauty), reproductive organs, kidneys (co-signified with 7th house), face
- Relations: Natural benefic; Kapha planet; Daitya Guru; enemy of Sun and Moon
- Notes: Venus in 5th from Karakamsha = poet, eloquent speaker, literary expertise. Venus+Mars in 9th from Karakamsha = dharma compromised by affairs. Venus in Karakamsha = artistic, luxury-loving. Distinction: Venus = physical eyes (appearance); Sun = vision (quality of sight). Deity when influencing 12th from AK: Lakshmi (Satvic divine Mother forms).
Karaka — Saturn (Shani)
- Source: Classes 62, 65, 67, 70
- Significations: Discipline, austerity, service, delays, old age, chronic illness, Vata, archery/patience in warfare, Vishnu, Durga/Kali (in malefic sign)
- Body-parts: Bones (co-signified), nerves, skin (dry), teeth, knees (10th house)
- Relations: Natural malefic; Vata planet; enemy of Sun and Moon
- Notes: Saturn in 5th from Karakamsha = sabha-jada (freezes in assembly), unable to speak publicly; discipline for sadhana. Saturn in 9th from Karakamsha with Rahu = non-believer/atheist tendency. Saturn in Karakamsha = industrious, systematic. In Ayurveda: strong Vata (dryness, emaciation). Deity: Vishnu (Saturn); or Durga/Kali (Saturn in malefic sign).
Karaka — Rahu

- Significations: Foreign lands, engineering, heavy machines, unconventional methods, Durga/Kali, Vata (darkness/smoke quality)
- Body-parts: Skin, nerves (co-signified with Saturn), obsessive tendencies affecting any organ
- Relations: Vata planet; co-lord of Aquarius; associated with illusion and amplification
- Notes: Rahu in 5th from Karakamsha = heavy machines/engineering. Rahu in 9th from Karakamsha with Saturn = atheist/rationalist tendency (gurudrohi by disbelief). Rahu as 8th lord in D20 = tapasya of unconventional kind (Chandi homam in PVR's case). Deity when influencing 12th from AK: Durga, Kali, and Ukra (fierce) devatas.
Karaka — Ketu
- Source: Classes 62, 65, 66, 68, 69, 70

- Relations: Natural Karaka for Moksha; enemy of Moon; associated with dissolution
- Notes: Ketu in 5th from Karakamsha = Jyotish/mathematics. Ketu in 12th from Karakamsha = Moksha potential; most important indicator for liberation. Ketu in 2nd/3rd from Karakamsha or Lagna = speech difficulties (stabdhavak). Ketu in Sagittarius specifically mentioned by Parashara as auspicious for Moksha. Ketu alone in 12th from AK = Ganesha or Skanda as Ishta Devata.
Karaka — Gulika (Mandi)
- Source: Class 62
- Significations: Poison, sins, shady dealings, inherited negativity, upagraha of Saturn
- Body-parts: None specific; afflicts wherever placed
- Relations: Upagraha (subsidiary planet) of Saturn; some traditions treat Gulika and Mandi as same entity (PVR's position)
- Notes: Gulika in Karakamsha = sinful associations, possible dealing in poisons, connection to inherited bad karma. PVR argues Gulika = Mandi (same entity, not separate). Their influence is primarily negative, showing areas where past-life negativity manifests.
v2 Batch 8 — Classes 71–80
Karakas — Batch 8 (v71–v80)
Master sheet of karaka (significator) teachings from this batch.
Karaka — Sun (Surya)
- Source: v71 (personification discussion)
- Significations: Soul (atman), leadership, authority, vitality, father, the self, recognition
- Body-parts: Heart, spine, right eye
- Relations: Father, king, authority figures
- Notes:
- Sun personifies the SOUL within the person. He is the "king" trying to free himself from the prison of the body. His job in this world is to work hard, pay off karmic debts (runas), and ultimately merge back into the divine.
- This is why Sun owning the 8th house is NOT a dosha—the 8th house of tapasya is precisely Sun's domain.
- Sun is the karaka for career success generally (seen in Dasamsa along with the 10th lord).
- For Aries lagna: Sun is the 5th lord = clear benefic (clear karakatva alignment).
- "Ghrini" in the Sun mantra means "the one who shines and burns"—highly radiant.
Karaka — Moon (Chandra)
- Source: v71 (personification discussion)
- Significations: Mind, consciousness, desires, emotions, mother, the public, popularity, mental peace
- Body-parts: Left eye, fluids, lungs, breasts, mind
- Relations: Mother, the public, mind
- Notes:
- Moon personifies the MIND—the "minister" serving the soul's agenda of liberation.
- As minister of the soul (Sun), the Moon's ownership of the 8th house is also not harmful.
- Moon is the primary karaka for desires, and when Moon owns the 7th house (house of desires), this karaka-house alignment amplifies desires so strongly that Moon becomes functionally malefic (e.g., Capricorn lagna: Moon = 7th lord, karaka of desire = strong malefic).
- Moon as 4th/10th house indicator in Graha Pravesh analysis shows mental peace in the home.
- Full Moon (Purnima) is among benefic planets; waning Moon (Kshina Chandra) is among malefics in natural classification.
Karaka — Mars (Kuja / Bhumi-putra)
- Source: v71–v73 (personification, Cancer lagna discussion)
- Significations: Initiative, energy, courage, enterprise, siblings (younger), surgeons, engineers, military
- Body-parts: Blood, muscles, bone marrow, right ear
- Relations: Younger siblings, military personnel
- Notes:
- Mars personifies the SPIRIT OF INITIATIVE inside the person—the will to act, the energy to get things done. He is the karaka for enterprise and daring.
- Mars is the ONLY planet that is yogakaraka for TWO lagnas simultaneously (Cancer: 5+10, Capricorn: 4+11 is malefic, but in Aries: 1+8 he is primary benefic).
- Sun-Mars combination in the 6th house of a Dasamsa can indicate a surgeon (Mars = enterprise, surgery; Sun = authority, recognition).
- For Pisces lagna: Mars owns 2nd (theoretical maraka) but does NOT kill because he is benefic and friend of lagna lord Jupiter.
- Mars as natural malefic: when owning kendras, neutralized; when owning trikonas, strong benefic.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha / Saumya)
- Source: v71–v72 (personification, various lagna analyses)
- Significations: Learning ability, intelligence, adaptability, communication, commerce, skill, discrimination
- Body-parts: Nervous system, skin, arms, speech
- Relations: Maternal uncle, youth, scholars, traders
- Notes:
- Mercury personifies the LEARNING ABILITY within the person—how well one can absorb, adapt, and appreciate the world. He is the most "impressionable" of planets.
- Mercury is susceptible to association (sahacharya) MORE than any other planet. Even his natural benefic/malefic status is undefined—it depends entirely on his company.
- For this reason, even when Mercury owns a trikona (5th house for Taurus), Parashara says he is only "alpa shubhaprada" (limitedly benefic) because his susceptibility to bad influences makes his beneficence uncertain.
- Mercury's inherent nature: "Udasina" (indifferent)—less than medium; most susceptible planet.
- For Virgo lagna: Mercury (1st + 10th) is the clear yogakaraka partner with Venus.
Karaka — Jupiter (Guru / Brihaspati)
- Source: v71 (personification), v73–v75 (various lagna analyses)
- Significations: Wisdom, dharma, children, husband (for women), wealth, expansion, higher knowledge, guru
- Body-parts: Liver, fat, thighs, right ear
- Relations: Father's guru, husband, children, teachers
- Notes:
- Jupiter personifies the POWER OF DISCRIMINATION (buddhi shakti)—the inner conscience that tells you right from wrong. He is the teacher of the gods.
- Jupiter is the natural karaka for the 9th house (dharma). When he owns both 6th and 9th (Cancer lagna), the 9th dominates because it is his "pet project"—he is more naturally aligned with it.
- Jupiter as 8th-lord: results depend entirely on association and the other house owned. If with benefics and owning a trikona, he can become benefic even as 8th lord.
- Jupiter owning two kendras with NO trikona (Gemini: 7+10; Virgo: 4+7): clear functional malefic.
- Jupiter-Venus yoga: not auspicious for Leo lagna because Jupiter (5+8 lord) and Venus (3+10 lord) have incompatible agendas despite both being natural benefics.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra / Kavi)
- Source: v71 (personification), v72–v75 (various lagna analyses)
- Significations: Happiness, pleasure, desires, spouse (for men), luxury, arts, vehicles, beauty
- Body-parts: Reproductive system, kidneys, eyes (beauty), throat
- Relations: Spouse, artists, those who pursue pleasure
- Notes:
- Venus personifies the SPIRIT OF HAPPINESS—the sense of enjoyment within us. He is the teacher of demons (asuras). His job is not to convert bad qualities to good, but to keep them reasonably content so they don't cause harm.
- Even spiritual bliss in meditation is a form of Venus energy—the highest form of happiness.
- Venus is the STRONGEST natural benefic planet per Parashara's ordering: Venus > Jupiter > Mercury > Full Moon.
- Venus is the most impacted by kendra ownership: "kendrādhipatyadosha" hits Venus hardest.
- For Gemini lagna: Venus (5+12 lord) is the ONLY benefic planet.
- Bhagavad Gita reference: Vishnu says "Among all Rishis, I am Venus"—indicating Venus as the greatest tapasvi.
Karaka — Saturn (Shani / Manda / Sanaischara)
- Source: v71 (personification), v72–v75 (various lagna analyses)
- Significations: Perseverance, hard work, discipline, labor, longevity, chronic conditions, delays, detachment
- Body-parts: Teeth, bones, joints, nervous system, hair
- Relations: Servants, laborers, the elderly, those who work hard
- Notes:
- Saturn personifies the SPIRIT OF PATIENCE AND DISCIPLINE—the capacity for hard work, perseverance, and labor within the person.
- Saturn owning the 8th house is NOT the same as Sun/Moon owning it. Saturn "liking" to work hard does not mean it is good for Saturn to OWN the house of work. The spirit of hard work owning the house of hard work means "hard work comes hard"—the person has to work hard to work hard, which is not ideal.
- Saturn absorbs malefic influences better than benefic influences. He is naturally disposed toward struggle, so benefic associations don't lift him as much as malefic associations reinforce him.
- Saturn as yogakaraka: Taurus (9+10), Libra (4+5).
- Saturn as primary maraka: Sagittarius (2+3 lord — both second and third, clear killer).
- For Capricorn lagna: Saturn (1+2 lord) is NOT a killer—lagna lordship overrides 2nd-lord maraka status.
Karaka — Rahu
- Source: v71 (personification), v72 (mafia analogy, BPHS Ch. 34 v16–17)
- Significations: Boundary-breaking, foreign things, cutting-edge technology, unknown, spiritual experience, unconventional matters
- Body-parts: None specific; associated with skin diseases, poisons, unusual symptoms
- Relations: Foreigners, outcasts, those who break norms
- Notes:
- Rahu personifies the SPIRIT OF BREAKING BARRIERS—the drive to push beyond what is known, accepted, or permitted. He is the demon who tried to become a god by drinking nectar.
- Rahu is vital for spiritual progress: when influencing houses of spirituality, he pushes the native toward DIRECT EXPERIENCE rather than theoretical knowledge (ocean description analogy).
- Rahu behaves as the "self-declared lord" of the house he occupies—he does kabza (occupation) of that house and gives results based on that house.
- Rahu's functional nature: determined by (1) house occupied, (2) planets associated with. NOT by Aquarius ownership.
- For Virgo lagna (PVR's own chart): Rahu in 6th house with Moon (11th lord) = functional malefic.
- Rahu in kendras or trikonas aspected by or associated with kendra/trikona lords = yogakaraka.
Karaka — Ketu
- Source: v71 (personification), v72 (BPHS Ch. 34 v16–17)
- Significations: Detachment, spirituality, moksha, past-life skills, sudden occurrences, isolation, psychic experiences
- Body-parts: None specific; associated with spiritual organs, gut/abdomen
- Relations: Ascetics, those who renounce
- Notes:
- Ketu personifies the SPIRIT OF DETACHMENT—the "I don't need anything anymore" quality. He is the planet of moksha and liberation.
- Ketu in any of the Moksha Trikona houses (4, 8, 12) is conducive to liberation and spiritual progress.
- Ketu's functional nature: determined same as Rahu—by house occupied and planets associated. NOT by Scorpio ownership.
- For Virgo lagna (PVR's chart): Ketu in 12th house with no association = neutral planet.
- Ketu in 4th house (Graha Pravesh muhurta analysis): "Sukha lopa" but if 9th lord, shows dharmic activities in the house; 4th house Ketu is conducive to pursuit of moksha in general.
v2 Batch 9 — Classes 81–90
Karakas — Batch 9 (v2, classes 81–90)
Karaka — Sun (Surya)
Source: class-82, class-84, class-87, class-89, class-90 Significations: Power, authority, soul, father, political leadership, medicine/healing, government service, vitality, ego, recognition, royalty Body-parts: Eyes, heart, bones, spine Relations: Father (primary Pitra Karaka), authority figures, government Notes:
- Sun is the primary Karaka for medicine and healing (physicians/doctors). Sun's connection to the 9th house of D24 strongly indicates medical education.
- As one of the three reference points in the three-reference analysis, Sun represents the causal body and the soul — the deeper dharmic purpose behind life events.
- In SKC Dasha, the progressed Sun is one of the three seeds for the year's analysis, representing soul-level themes.
- Sun afflicted by Ketu (close conjunction within 2–3 degrees) in D12 weakens the father connection — the Pitra Karaka is eclipsed.
- Sun in Navamsa: as 8th lord in the 12th house (Upadesha Raja Yoga) can paradoxically give political power through transformation and suffering.
Karaka — Moon (Chandra)
Source: class-81, class-83, class-84, class-85, class-88, class-89 Significations: Mind, emotional stability, mother, the public, receptivity, sensitivity to environment, social interaction, nurturing, creativity, imagination Body-parts: Mind, blood, breasts, left eye (female), right eye (male), lymphatic system Relations: Mother, public perception, caregivers Notes:
- Moon is the "observer" — the mind's interface with the world. Moon shows how the person receives and integrates external stimuli.
- Moon in Gandanta + Sarpa Nakshatra = serious impairment in the mind-world interface (autism spectrum, developmental delays).
- Chandra Lagna is one of the three references for the three-reference analysis, showing the mind's perspective on events.
- Sobhati: when Moon is in its own sign (Cancer), it is doubly important because it is both the Manaskaraka AND the dispositor of itself (the sign's lord and the planet coincide).
- Moon in Krishna Paksha = natural malefic. For Kendra lordship, natural malefics are not functional benefics from quadrant lordship alone.
- For Nakshatra Dasha selection, Moon's nakshatra is always the dasha seed; only the applicability conditions can be checked from Chandra Lagna.
Karaka — Mars (Mangala)
Source: class-81, class-84, class-85, class-87, class-90 Significations: Energy, drive, courage, engineering, surgery, accidents, real estate, brothers, competition, Yogakaraka for Cancer/Leo lagna (9th + 4th lords), initiative Body-parts: Blood, muscles, bone marrow, head wounds Relations: Brothers, co-borns (specifically male siblings), enemies Notes:
- Mars as Yogakaraka (lord of both a Kendra and Kona simultaneously, e.g., for Leo Lagna as 4th + 9th lord) gives special career success in his Dasha.
- Mars connected to the 11th house from all three references = exceptional material gain period.
- Mars in Pisces (exaltation sign for Venus in some systems; Mars has Ucha Drishti to the 11th house when placed in Pisces) gives an especially auspicious 11th house aspect.
- Debilitated Mars as 8th lord in Navamsa: the debilitation is "functionally free" and somewhat good in that it reduces the malefic effect, but the 8th lord agenda still produces anxiety in marriage.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha)
Source: class-81, class-83, class-86, class-89, class-90 Significations: Intelligence, communication, analysis, commerce, writing, education, nervous system, Buddhi (analytical ability), learning, IT/software, legal and financial fields Body-parts: Nervous system, skin, hands, vocal cords Relations: Maternal uncle, general intellectual peers Notes:
- Mercury is the Karaka for Buddhi (analytical intellect) — distinct from Moon (Manas/mind) and Jupiter (Viveka/discrimination).
- Mercury in D24 strong = good learner with analytical ability. Mercury debilitated in D24 but in Kendra = somewhat compensated.
- Mercury in Sarpa Drekkana alongside Moon = both mind (Moon) and intellect (Mercury) under Sarpa affliction — serious developmental concern.
- In Vimshottari D20, Mercury Antardasha (in Moon Mahadasha for Vivekananda) gave death of guru — Mercury as 3rd lord from A9 in 8th from A9.
- Mercury exalted in D24 (e.g., in Virgo or in Gemini where Mercury is in Moolatrikona) shows exceptional analytical capacity for education.
Karaka — Jupiter (Guru / Brihaspati)
Source: class-82, class-83, class-85, class-87, class-88, class-89, class-90 Significations: Wisdom, guru/teacher, dharma, children, fortune, higher learning, finance, religion, expansion, Viveka (discrimination), optimism Body-parts: Liver, thighs, fat tissue, arteries Relations: Husband (for female charts), guru, teachers, children (primary child Karaka), patrons Notes:
- Jupiter is the primary Karaka for guru and for children. Exalted Jupiter in the 9th house (of any divisional chart) or aspecting the 9th house in D20 is an excellent indicator of guru blessings.
- Jupiter's Mahadasha is generally excellent for career (9th house connections) and learning (D24), but may not give political power if Jupiter doesn't connect to the 5th house from all three references.
- Jupiter as 8th lord in D10 or D9 is a functional malefic; but as a natural benefic, he still gives spiritual growth even as a functional malefic.
- In D27 (Bhamsa), Jupiter in Moolatrikona or exalted = strong Viveka and discrimination ability.
- Jupiter in the 5th house of D24 (or as 5th lord well-placed) = potential for academic distinction.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra)
Source: class-81, class-82, class-83, class-87, class-89, class-90 Significations: Beauty, pleasure, romance, marriage, arts, luxury, vehicles, sensual comforts, Kapha constitution, diplomacy, finance Body-parts: Kidneys, reproductive system, skin (beauty aspect), semen/reproductive fluids Relations: Wife (for male charts), female figures, business partners Notes:
- Venus as Lagna lord or 5th lord has the dharma of returning the person to their native place/identity — even when placed in the 12th house (abroad), Venus Dasha will eventually bring the person home.
- Venus in D20 (Vimshamsa): 5th lord Venus in a benefic, friendly sign = spiritual practice brings happiness and results. Yogakaraka Venus in Navamsa in an Advitra Rashi (mitra rashi but specifically defined) = well-placed.
- In Ashtavarga for SKC: Venus's Ashtavarga positions should be specifically checked when marriage is the topic — being benefic from Venus's reference is more important than being benefic from 6 out of 8 references when Venus is not included.
Karaka — Saturn (Shani)
Source: class-81, class-83, class-85, class-87, class-88, class-90 Significations: Hard work, discipline, perseverance, longevity, servants, masses, democracy, old age, delay, karma/justice, Vata and diseases thereof Body-parts: Bones, teeth, nerves (in Vata aspect), knees, chronic diseases Relations: Workers, servants, masses/populace, elder figures Notes:
- Retrograde Saturn: closer to Earth, more intense material effects. Not inherently bad — retrograde Saturn shows more material drive and intensity of Saturnine themes.
- Saturn as 2nd house lord in a D24 with Saturn in second house: if the person speaks fast and is communicative, Saturn alone in the 2nd is not the issue. Check the 2nd lord's placement also.
- Saturn in Moolatrikona in D27 = strong innate capacity for hard work at the subconscious level.
- Saturn and Jupiter in the 8th house together in a Prashna chart (Pranay's D24 Prashna, class-89): strong but complicated — Mars-Saturn aspect from Jupiter can control the malefic Mars and Saturn who are creating Papakartari on Lagna.
Karaka — Rahu
Source: class-81, class-83, class-85, class-87, class-88 Significations: Foreign countries, unconventional paths, obsession, technology, mass phenomena, worldly desires, karmic entanglement, sudden rise/fall Body-parts: None specific (shadowy planet); associated with poisoning, unusual diseases Relations: Foreigners, non-conventional associations, paternal grandfather Notes:
- Rahu's nature depends on: (a) who he is conjunct with — he takes on the nature of the strongest planet conjunct; (b) his placement — Moolatrikona sthana for Rahu is Virgo (9th house from Rahu in transit in some systems); (c) the sign's lord.
- In Sudarshan Chakra Dasha, if Rahu is in any of the three progressed signs (Lagna, Moon, or Sun progress signs) in the Dasha Pravesh Chakra, Parashara said that sign becomes weak. But this must be tempered by Rahu's actual strength in the chart.
- Rahu with Mars gives a benefic Rahu (Mars benefic → Rahu becomes like Mars). Rahu with Saturn and Mars: closer to Mars = acts like Mars = benefic.
Karaka — Ketu
Source: class-81, class-82, class-83, class-85, class-89, class-90 Significations: Detachment, moksha, spirituality, past-life knowledge, sudden events, Vata diseases, machines/electronics, obstacles and release, Sarpa qualities Body-parts: None specific; associated with accidents, wounds that are sudden and unexpected Relations: Maternal grandmother, spiritual lineage Notes:
- Ketu's nature is determined by: (a) the planet he is with — he takes on that planet's qualities; (b) the house he is in — in the 5th house, Ketu is benefic; in the 8th, he is more malefic; (c) the lord of the sign he is in.
- Ketu in Sarpa Nakshatra (Ashlesha) or Sarpa Drekkana compounds its Naga energy, which can be either very spiritually powerful (positive) or causing suffering (negative) depending on chart context.
- Ketu as 4th lord in D24 in the 11th house (Pranay, class-89): 4th lord of learning in the 11th of fulfillment — when Ketu Mahadasha of D24 runs, learning fulfillment is possible despite it not being a "super dasha."
- Ketu in 11th from AL (Arudha Lagna) in D10 (Vivekananda): lord of the Arudha, in the 11th from it = gave world fame in his Shodashottari Mahadasha.
v2 Batch 10 — Classes 91–100
Karakas — Batch 10 (v2, classes 91–99)
Karaka — Saturn (Shani)
- Source: class-99 (primary), class-91, class-94, class-96
- Significations: Disease, hard work, obstruction, Vata dosha, chronic conditions, discipline, servants, aged people, delays, karma, detachment, longevity (when well-placed), air, nervous system, bones, tendons
- Body parts: Bones, teeth, joints, nervous system (Vata channels), respiratory tract (dryness), skin
- Relations: Enemy of Sun (lagna lord in Leo/Aries charts), enemy of Moon; friend of Venus and Mercury
- Notes: Saturn as 6th lord is a functional malefic for Leo lagna and aspecting the lagna lord Sun creates a Dur Yoga. Saturn retrograde reduces (but does not eliminate) its capacity to give disease. Saturn as 6th and 8th lord from Moon simultaneously makes it a double threat. Saturn's dosha is Vata — airy and drying.
Karaka — Moon (Chandra)
- Source: class-99 (primary), class-92, class-95
- Significations: Mind, emotions, manomaya kosha (mental sheath), mother, comfort, direction (4th house karaka), fluids, Kapha (full Moon) or Vata (new Moon / waning Moon near Amavasya)
- Body parts: Mind/brain, fluids, lungs (through prana connection), reproductive system
- Relations: Friend of Sun and Jupiter; enemy of Saturn in certain positions
- Notes: Full Moon is Kapha; New Moon (Amavasya) is Vata; intermediate Moon is a blend. A waning Moon close to Amavasya in the 8th house is one of the worst positions for health — its dosha is Vata, and it gives diseases relating to depletion of vital force. Moon in the 8th house activates at Moon's Prana Pada Lagna position (Moon in 12th from Prana Pada indicates health vulnerability).
Karaka — Rahu
- Source: class-93, class-96, class-99
- Significations: Hidden operations, espionage, undercover activities, foreign connections, amplification of desires, sudden events, deception, Vata and Kapha disturbance, shadows, obsessions, unconventional paths
- Body parts: Nervous system (excess stimulation), mental confusion, respiratory system (Vata excess), skin (in some configurations)
- Relations: Considered friend of Saturn, Venus, Mercury; enemy of Sun and Moon
- Notes: Venus-Rahu combination in D10 = spy or undercover career signification. Rahu as Amatyakaraka (career significator as per Jaimini) indicates career in non-traditional, foreign, or shadow domains. Worshipping Ganesha is recommended when Rahu is Amatyakaraka and causing career obstruction.
Karaka — Jupiter (Guru / Brihaspati)
- Source: class-93, class-94, class-99
- Significations: Teachers, law, Jupiter, higher education, philosophy, children, fortune, protection, 9th house karaka, 5th house karaka, debilitation in Capricorn (reduces above significations)
- Body parts: Liver, fat tissue (Kapha), hips (Sagittarius connection), arterial system
- Relations: Friend of Sun and Moon; neutral toward Saturn
- Notes: Jupiter as 10th lord debilitated in D10 does not eliminate career success — other planets (Mars, Venus, Mercury) compensate. Debilitated Jupiter in 3rd house of D10 with 5th lord forms Raja Yoga, but the planets are weak so the Raja Yoga manifests through struggle and initiative (third house drive) rather than effortless success. No need to propitiate Jupiter when Mars/Venus/Mercury are already giving the career; propitiating Jupiter would not change the career flavor.
Karaka — Mars (Mangala / Kuja)
- Source: class-93, class-98, class-99
- Significations: Physical energy, aggression, initiative, military, police, engineering, surgery, technical fields, Pitta dosha, fire, 10th lord natural significator for career in Rashi charts when exalted/own sign
- Body parts: Blood, muscles, bile (Pitta), surgical conditions, head injuries
- Relations: Friend of Jupiter and Sun; enemy of Saturn
- Notes: Mars in own sign (Aries or Scorpio) in D10 = extremely strong career indicator for technical/military careers. Mars aspecting the 10th house at 100% gives undivided career focus in the area Mars signifies (technology, defense, medicine). Hanuman Chalisa is the primary remedy for activating strong Mars / for Mars-Saturn periods. Worshipping Hanuman also benefits physical health when Mars is the career planet.
Karaka — Venus (Shukra)
- Source: class-93, class-95, class-99
- Significations: Hidden activities, artistic talent, Antak (poison — occult connotation), planning, luxury, beauty, vehicles, relationships, desire, Kapha and Pitta (depending on sign), 7th house karaka (marriage), spy / covert operations (Venus-Rahu combination)
- Body parts: Reproductive organs, kidneys, skin (beauty), venous blood, sugar metabolism
- Relations: Friend of Saturn and Mercury; enemy of Sun and Moon in some traditions
- Notes: Venus-Rahu combination in D10 = undercover, intelligence, or spy career. Exalted Venus in the 10th of D10 is a very powerful career indicator; combines with exalted Mercury for meticulous planning in an elite career. Worshipping Lakshmi-Narayana activates Venus-Mercury Raja Yoga.
Karaka — Mercury (Budha)
- Source: class-91, class-94, class-95, class-99
- Significations: Intelligence, communication, computing, analysis, detail orientation, nervous system, D24 education significations, exalted in Virgo
- Body parts: Nervous system, skin (Vata element), intestines, lungs (through nervous control of breathing)
- Relations: Friend of Sun; neutral toward Moon; enemy of Moon in some classical sources
- Notes: Mercury exalted in D24 = computer science or technical education. Mercury exalted in D10 = intellectual, planning-oriented career. Mercury as 7th lord in D24 placed in 2nd house = Maraka for education (can end the educational program). Mercury as antardasha planet brings improvement in career when it owns 7th and 10th of D10 and joins exalted Mars (5th lord) — triggers Raja Yoga.
Karaka — Sun (Surya)
- Source: class-91, class-93, class-96, class-99
- Significations: Soul, authority, government, father, politicians, bosses, Pitta dosha, confidence, lagna lord for Leo lagna, 7th lord in Navamsa (self-projection toward partner), leadership
- Body parts: Heart, eyes, bones (spine), Pitta organs
- Relations: Enemy of Saturn, Venus; friend of Moon and Mars
- Notes: Sun eclipsed by Ketu in Navamsa = primary obstacle to marriage (self-eclipsed, unable to project clearly to partner). Exalted Sun in Aries = strong Pitta nature. Sun as lagna lord in Leo: its dasha is health-protective; Saturn antardasha in Sun dasha is less likely to give serious health problems because lagna lord overrides malefic antardasha.
Karaka — Ketu
- Source: class-92, class-94, class-99
- Significations: Spirituality, detachment, past-life karma, neurological disruptions, Vata dosha, erratic behavior, fourth-house disruptions (in some charts), 8th house karma when placed with Sun
- Body parts: Nervous system (erratic firing), immune system depletion, skin (eruptions), ears
- Relations: Friend of Mars and Saturn; enemy of Sun and Moon
- Notes: Ketu in the 4th pada (quarter) of a nakshatra in Navamsa relating to the 7th house can give marriage despite its general tendency toward detachment. Ketu Mahadasha: problems arise mainly in the Antardashas of planets that are enemies of lagna lord or placed in dusthanas; Ketu itself is more of a karmic neutral in its own dasha unless it rules/occupies the 8th.
