True Nodes vs. Mean Nodes {#true-vs-mean-nodes}

Definition

Rahu and Ketu are the nodes — the intersection points of the Moon's orbital plane (Moon around Earth) and Earth's orbital plane (Earth around Sun).

True nodes: The actual instantaneous intersection points computed from current planetary positions and vectors. These are the astronomically correct points that determine eclipses — when the true node aligns with Sun and Moon, an eclipse occurs.

Mean nodes: A smoothed average of the true nodes over time, designed to ensure that Rahu-Ketu are always retrograde (never appear to go forward). This was traditionally preferred because classical texts describe the nodes as always retrograde.

PVR's Preference

"I'm not a hundred percent sure if [constant retrograde] is really a requirement." — PVR

PVR uses true nodes for the following reasons:

1. Eclipses are caused by the true nodes, not averaged positions
2. True nodes can differ from mean nodes by up to one degree in longitude
3. That one-degree difference can shift a planet from one sign to another in divisional charts

NOTE: jHora default is mean nodes. To switch to true nodes: Alt+T → C → T → Enter (Preferences → Calculation Options → True Nodes).

Practical Impact

In the example discussed, Ketu shifted from Taurus (mean) to Gemini (true) — a change that meaningfully altered the Dashamsha chart interpretation.

Shodi Ashtakavarga Bug Fix {#shodi-ashtakavarga}

A new test version of jHora (beyond v7.6.3) was released on the jHora Yahoo group to fix a bug in the Shodhita Ashtakavarga (reduced Ashtakavarga):

• Standard Ashtakavarga (Bhinnashtakavarga and Sarvashtakavarga): Unaffected, always correct
• Shodhita Pindas / Shodhita Ashtakavarga: Required the fix
• The fix involved the Swadhishtana step — the triangular reduction process

NOTE: This update is only relevant for researchers studying Shodhita Ashtakavarga and Shodhita Pindas. Most practitioners can ignore it. Recommended version: jHora 7.6.3.

Why Ketu gave the career gap: From the 10th house (Aries) taken as Lagna → Ketu is 6th lord placed in Lagna (Aries). 6th lord in Lagna = obstacles to self, obstruction in getting work. Also, Ketu as 3rd lord (breaks) in the 10th (career) = forced breaks in career.

Why Venus gave the contract job: Venus aspects the 3rd house (contracts, temporary work). From the 10th taken as Lagna, Venus is 5th and 12th lord in the 12th — a good placement (12th lord in 12th removes worry). Overall Venus is a 9th lord in 9th house — the most fortuitous position.

Saturn Stationary Transit

Conclusion: Saturn transiting stationary at 17°30′ Libra makes its 10th aspect on natal Saturn in the Navamsa at 17°28′ Cancer. That is an alignment within 18 arc minutes — extraordinarily close.

"When some good planet in the Navamsa is stationary and affecting the seventh lord of Navamsa, there's a very strong chance of getting married." — PVR

Saturn is the 7th lord of the Navamsa chart AND the current Vimshottari Dasha lord. Stationary Saturn aspecting natal Saturn (7th lord, Dasha lord) within 18 arc minutes is PVR's strongest finding of the session.

Stationary Transit Theory

PVR explained the principle: a stationary planet is like a yogi deep in meditation — it has stopped its usual rapid movement, its energy is focused and calm. When such a focused planet aspects a natal point, it "triggers" that natal position with exceptional intensity. This is unlike a regular transit, where the planet is hurrying past and its attention is scattered.

"They're calm, relaxed. They can really focus. They're analogous to people who have done a nice meditation and whose mind really calm down so much... if such a yogi meditated for a while and his mind is really calm, and then he opened his eyes and he looked at you, something may trigger something for you, like that." — PVR

Remedies for Marriage Delay {#remedies}

Primary Remedy — Aditya Hridaya

Rationale:

1. Sun is the Navamsa Lagna lord — its weakness is the primary blockage
2. Sun is the 9th lord (Dharma lord) in the Rashi chart — marriage is a dharmic act
3. In Dashamsha, Sun is 5th lord in 10th house — benefits career too

Practice:

• Chant Aditya Hridaya as many times as possible every day
• Budget 1–2 hours of daily chanting with the sankalpa (intention) of marriage
• PVR: "She should be chanting Ajapa Japa like a mad person"

TIP: Ajapa Japa means chanting without a fixed count, spontaneously and continuously throughout the day — "as many times as you can."

Supporting Remedies

NOTE: Homam (fire ritual) requires time to learn properly. Given the 2013 marriage window, PVR cautioned that by the time a novice is comfortable performing homam, the favorable period may have passed. Intensive mantra chanting is more practical.

Ruby (Gemstone) for Sun?

A student asked about wearing Ruby to strengthen weak Sun. PVR's response:

"Because he's weak, not a great idea. I mean, the standard conventional theory is that it will help. But the thing is I'm not hundred percent sure. So it's better to just pray."

PVR prefers mantra remedies over gemstone prescriptions for afflicted planets.

Health — Facial Scar and Physical Indicators {#health}

A question arose about a scar on Kalyani's face. PVR explained the astrological indicators:

8th lord placement rule: The 8th lord's sign placement shows the body area prone to health problems. Moon (8th lord) in Libra → kidneys, womb, uterus — potential health issue there in operating Dasha periods.
