🕉️ Class 96 — Shodi Ashtakavarga Fix, True vs. Mean Nodes, Career Forecast, and Kalyani's Marriage Timing
Gist: Two chart analyses: (1) A senior professional (Cancer Lagna, born 1953, Visakhapatnam) reviews a career gap and evaluates his contract job prospects using Rashi, Dashamsha, and Shasipravesh charts; (2) Kalyani Seshu (Sagittarius Lagna, born Oct 28, 1981, Narsa Rao Pete) — a 31-year-old woman with delayed marriage analyzed through Navamsa stationary transits. Key theory: true nodes vs. mean nodes, and the Shasipravesh chart for annual forecasting. Remedy: Aditya Hridaya chanting intensively for overcoming marriage blockage.

True Nodes vs. Mean Nodes {#true-vs-mean-nodes}
Definition
Rahu and Ketu are the nodes — the intersection points of the Moon's orbital plane (Moon around Earth) and Earth's orbital plane (Earth around Sun).
True nodes: The actual instantaneous intersection points computed from current planetary positions and vectors. These are the astronomically correct points that determine eclipses — when the true node aligns with Sun and Moon, an eclipse occurs.
Mean nodes: A smoothed average of the true nodes over time, designed to ensure that Rahu-Ketu are always retrograde (never appear to go forward). This was traditionally preferred because classical texts describe the nodes as always retrograde.
PVR's Preference
"I'm not a hundred percent sure if [constant retrograde] is really a requirement." — PVR
PVR uses true nodes for the following reasons:
- Eclipses are caused by the true nodes, not averaged positions
- True nodes can differ from mean nodes by up to one degree in longitude
- That one-degree difference can shift a planet from one sign to another in divisional charts
NOTE: jHora default is mean nodes. To switch to true nodes:
Alt+T → C → T → Enter(Preferences → Calculation Options → True Nodes).
Practical Impact
| Node Type | Direction | Longitude Accuracy | Eclipse Alignment |
|---|---|---|---|
| True nodes | Sometimes direct, mostly retrograde | Instantaneous / precise | Yes — causes actual eclipses |
| Mean nodes | Always retrograde | Averaged over full cycle | No — mathematical abstraction |
In the example discussed, Ketu shifted from Taurus (mean) to Gemini (true) — a change that meaningfully altered the Dashamsha chart interpretation.
Shodi Ashtakavarga Bug Fix {#shodi-ashtakavarga}
A new test version of jHora (beyond v7.6.3) was released on the jHora Yahoo group to fix a bug in the Shodhita Ashtakavarga (reduced Ashtakavarga):
- Standard Ashtakavarga (Bhinnashtakavarga and Sarvashtakavarga): Unaffected, always correct
- Shodhita Pindas / Shodhita Ashtakavarga: Required the fix
- The fix involved the Swadhishtana step — the triangular reduction process
NOTE: This update is only relevant for researchers studying Shodhita Ashtakavarga and Shodhita Pindas. Most practitioners can ignore it. Recommended version: jHora 7.6.3.
Chart 1 — Career Analysis (Cancer Lagna, b. 1953) {#chart1-career}
Birth Details
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Date of Birth | August 31, 1953 |
| Time of Birth | 4:40 AM IST |
| Place | Visakhapatnam, India |
| Longitude | 83°18′E |
| Latitude | 17°42′N |
| Lagna | Cancer |
Background
- Career gap began: April 12, 2011 (end of Saturn–Ketu Antardasha in Vimshottari)
- Contract job obtained: October 15, 2012 (start of Venus Antardasha)
- Class date: Late 2012 (class held ~October/November 2012)
Rashi Chart Analysis
10th house of career = Aries
| Planet | Role in Rashi | Career Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Ketu | 3rd lord in 10th house | Gives breaks from work; 3rd lord = house of vacations/contracts |
| Venus | 4th and 11th lord, 9th from 10th | Gives contract work (aspects 3rd house); 9th lord in 9th — very strong |
| Saturn | Dasha lord, 7th lord | Overall dasha running since 2005, 19-year span, career not ending |
Why Ketu gave the career gap: From the 10th house (Aries) taken as Lagna → Ketu is 6th lord placed in Lagna (Aries). 6th lord in Lagna = obstacles to self, obstruction in getting work. Also, Ketu as 3rd lord (breaks) in the 10th (career) = forced breaks in career.
Why Venus gave the contract job: Venus aspects the 3rd house (contracts, temporary work). From the 10th taken as Lagna, Venus is 5th and 12th lord in the 12th — a good placement (12th lord in 12th removes worry). Overall Venus is a 9th lord in 9th house — the most fortuitous position.
Dashamsha (D10) Analysis
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| D10 Lagna | Virgo (Kanya) |
| Saturn in D10 | Exalted in 2nd house, with Lagna lord — Raja Yoga potential |
| Ketu in D10 | 3rd lord in 10th house (Lagna) — career break confirmed |
| Venus in D10 | 9th lord in 9th house — extremely favorable |
| Moon in D10 | 10th lord in 12th house with Rahu — concerning |
Key D10 sub-period forecast:
| Antardasha | Period | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Ketu | Ended July 2012 | Unemployment; 6th lord in Lagna from 10th |
| Venus | Oct 2012 → Feb 2013 | Contract likely to continue / be extended; 9th lord in 9th |
| Sun | Feb 11 → Mar 4, 2013 | Politics at workplace; Sun debilitated with Saturn in D10 Lagna; avoid conflict with boss |
| Moon | March–April 2013 | Risk of break or mental anxiety; 10th lord in 12th with Rahu — 10th lord in a bad house |

D --> E["Moon Antardasha\nMar-Apr 2013\nRisk of break or anxiety"]
E --> F["Overall Venus period\n(till ~mid-2015)\nMuch better than last 2 years"]
IMPORTANT: Even if a gap opens in the Moon sub-period (March–April 2013), it will be short — a few months, not 1–2 years. Venus's overall Antardasha till mid-2015 is favorable for near-continuous employment.
Remedy Recommended
Deity: Vishveshwara (Lord Shiva as ruler of Kashi / Varanasi)
Rationale from Dashamsha: Saturn (exalted, with Lagna lord in 2nd house of wealth) and Ketu (10th lord and Lagna lord) are in a Raja Yoga in D10. Saturn-Ketu combination points to Vishveshwara / Lord Shiva.
Shasipravesh Annual Chart for 2012 {#shasipravesh-2012}
The Shasipravesh chart (Moon's annual return — similar to Tithi Pravesh but for the Moon) was examined for year 2012.
Shasipravesh 2012 Chart Highlights
| Feature | Position | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Shasipravesh Lagna | Libra | Kendra from natal Cancer Lagna (favorable) |
| Saturn + Sun in Lagna | Exalted Saturn in Libra | Saturn yoga-karaka exalted — strong |
| Ruler of the year | Mercury | 9th lord in 10th house with 11th lord |
| Rahu in D10 | 5th lord with 10th lord (Moon) in 12th | Raja Yoga with displacement/travel |
Ruling year planet Mercury: 9th lord in 10th house = fortune in career. Ruler of year in 10th house is among the strongest indicators for a good career year.
Rashi Dasha in Shasipravesh: Rahu — as 5th lord in the 2nd house (gains). In Dashamsha: Rahu as 5th and 10th lord conjunction in 12th house = Raja Yoga with displacement (job requiring travel or relocation).
TIP: When evaluating an annual chart (Shasipravesh or Tithi Pravesh), check: (1) is the Lagna in kendra/trine from natal Lagna? (2) Is an exalted or strong planet in Lagna? (3) Is the ruler of the year well placed? (4) How is the Dasha of that year's chart?

Dasha Analysis for Marriage
Applicable Dasha: Chaturthi Samdasha (conditional Dasha triggered because 10th lord Mercury is exalted in 10th house in Rashi chart)
| Dasha Level | Planet | Marriage Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Maha Dasha | Mercury | 7th lord in own sign (Rashi); in Lagna (Navamsa); 7th from Venus — can give marriage with propitiation |
| Antardasha | Jupiter | Rashi: Lagna lord aspecting 7th; Navamsa: 5th+8th lord, benefic, aspecting 7th; 7th lord from Mercury in 2nd house of family |
"Mercury-Jupiter Antardasha is capable of giving marriage. The next year and a half, there is a chance of marriage based on the Dasha." — PVR
Obstacle: Mercury is a male planet; from Venus Lagna, Mercury is in the 6th house (not clean/easy). Jupiter is in an inimical sign in Navamsa. Propitiation is essential.
Stationary Transit Technique — Marriage Timing {#stationary-transit}
PVR applied the stationary transit technique to identify the precise timing window for Kalyani's marriage.
Jupiter Stationary Transit
| Date | Position | Navamsa Aspect |
|---|---|---|
| January 30, 2013 | 12°17′ Taurus (stationary) | Aspects Sun at 10°04′ in Navamsa — within ~2° |
| November 6, 2013 | 26°30′ Gemini (stationary) | No closely aspected natal point — not significant |
Conclusion: Jupiter's January 2013 station closely aspects the Navamsa Lagna lord Sun (within ~2 degrees). This is a meaningful trigger.
Saturn Stationary Transit
| Date | Position | Navamsa Aspect |
|---|---|---|
| February 18, 2013 | 17°30′ Libra (stationary) | 10th aspect hits natal Saturn at 17°28′ Cancer — within 18 arc minutes |
Conclusion: Saturn transiting stationary at 17°30′ Libra makes its 10th aspect on natal Saturn in the Navamsa at 17°28′ Cancer. That is an alignment within 18 arc minutes — extraordinarily close.
"When some good planet in the Navamsa is stationary and affecting the seventh lord of Navamsa, there's a very strong chance of getting married." — PVR
Saturn is the 7th lord of the Navamsa chart AND the current Vimshottari Dasha lord. Stationary Saturn aspecting natal Saturn (7th lord, Dasha lord) within 18 arc minutes is PVR's strongest finding of the session.

Stationary Transit Theory
PVR explained the principle: a stationary planet is like a yogi deep in meditation — it has stopped its usual rapid movement, its energy is focused and calm. When such a focused planet aspects a natal point, it "triggers" that natal position with exceptional intensity. This is unlike a regular transit, where the planet is hurrying past and its attention is scattered.
"They're calm, relaxed. They can really focus. They're analogous to people who have done a nice meditation and whose mind really calm down so much... if such a yogi meditated for a while and his mind is really calm, and then he opened his eyes and he looked at you, something may trigger something for you, like that." — PVR
Remedies for Marriage Delay {#remedies}
Primary Remedy — Aditya Hridaya
Rationale:
- Sun is the Navamsa Lagna lord — its weakness is the primary blockage
- Sun is the 9th lord (Dharma lord) in the Rashi chart — marriage is a dharmic act
- In Dashamsha, Sun is 5th lord in 10th house — benefits career too
Practice:
- Chant Aditya Hridaya as many times as possible every day
- Budget 1–2 hours of daily chanting with the sankalpa (intention) of marriage
- PVR: "She should be chanting Ajapa Japa like a mad person"
TIP: Ajapa Japa means chanting without a fixed count, spontaneously and continuously throughout the day — "as many times as you can."
Supporting Remedies
| Remedy | Target | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Aditya Hridaya | Sun (Navamsa Lagna lord, primary weakness) | Core remedy |
| Durga Saptashati / Chandi Kavacham | Saturn-Rahu transiting Janma Rashi | Saturn Sade Sati + Rahu on natal Moon next 2 years |
| Navarna Mantra (Om Hrim Hrim Klim Chamundaye Vichche Svaha) | Saturn-Mars-Rahu in Navamsa 12th | Durga mantra for combined malefic affliction |
| Hanuman puja / homam | Mars-Saturn combination | Mars shows barrier; Saturn with Mars = stubborn barrier |
| Saturday fasting | Saturn (7th lord; Upapada Lagna in Saturn sign) | UL in Saturn sign strengthens partnership destiny |
NOTE: Homam (fire ritual) requires time to learn properly. Given the 2013 marriage window, PVR cautioned that by the time a novice is comfortable performing homam, the favorable period may have passed. Intensive mantra chanting is more practical.
Ruby (Gemstone) for Sun?
A student asked about wearing Ruby to strengthen weak Sun. PVR's response:
"Because he's weak, not a great idea. I mean, the standard conventional theory is that it will help. But the thing is I'm not hundred percent sure. So it's better to just pray."
PVR prefers mantra remedies over gemstone prescriptions for afflicted planets.
Health — Facial Scar and Physical Indicators {#health}
A question arose about a scar on Kalyani's face. PVR explained the astrological indicators:
| House / Planet | Governs | Indication |
|---|---|---|
| Lagna | Overall appearance and physical form | Strong (Lagna lord Jupiter in Venus house, well-placed) |
| 2nd house | Face | Contains Ketu (12th lord) — possible scar or blemish |
| 2nd lord Saturn | Face health | In 12th house — some compromise to facial area possible |
| Lagna lord Jupiter | Self | With 8th lord Moon — association with 8th can bring surgery/health challenge |
8th lord placement rule: The 8th lord's sign placement shows the body area prone to health problems. Moon (8th lord) in Libra → kidneys, womb, uterus — potential health issue there in operating Dasha periods.
6th lord placement rule: The 6th lord's house placement from Lagna shows another area of health challenge. Venus (6th lord) in 12th house → feet area.
NOTE: The scar likely occurred during a Dasha activating Jupiter (Lagna lord) and Moon (8th lord) together. The relatively large distance between Jupiter and Moon reduces severity.
jHora Software Roadmap Discussion {#jhora-roadmap}
PVR shared his development plans and challenges for jHora in response to student questions about a software manual:
Current Status
- Latest stable version: jHora 7.6.3
- Test patch: for Shodhita Ashtakavarga bug (Yahoo group only)
Manual Project
Old WinHelp RTF files exist and PVR offered to share them with students willing to convert and update them into Word/PDF. Recommendations:
- Use Word for professional formatting with screenshots
- Use GIF format (not JPEG, not PNG) for screenshots: jHora uses fixed colors, and GIF handles fixed-color images without lossy compression artifacts
"JPEG is a terrible format [for screenshots]. It will result in loss." — PVR
Porting jHora to Multiple Platforms
PVR discussed the challenge of porting jHora beyond Windows:
- Target platforms: macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS, Android, Windows Phone
- Key decision: GUI framework — Java (cross-platform) vs. WXWidgets (wraps native controls)
- Core calculations are portable; GUI is the porting challenge
- Plan: Separate GUI from calculation engine to enable multi-platform support
