🕉️ Class 30 — Third Lord in Houses 7–12
Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, Chapter 24 — verse 31 onward. The sahajādhipa (third lord) placed in each of houses 7 through 12 is examined verse-by-verse. Every result is justified by shifting house reference, identifying trikona and dusthāna relationships, and cross-checking childhood, marriage, career, and peace of mind independently. The class closes with a critical pedagogical reminder: Parāśara's results are frameworks for expanding reasoning, not a formula to auto-generate predictions.

⚔️ Third Lord in the 7th House
Verse: Serves the king (government service); unhappy in childhood; happy in later life.
Rationale
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| Government service / big interactions | From 7H as lagna, 9L (fortune/bhāgya) is in lagna → interactions are blessed, fortunate; tends to interact with big, influential personalities |
| Childhood unhappiness | From 2H (childhood resources): 3L in 7H = 6H from 2H → 6H position = obstacles in early life; childhood has difficulty to overcome |
| Happiness in later life | From 7H (marriage): 9L in lagna → marital life is blessed. From 4H (happiness/comfort): 3L = 12L in 4H → moksha trikona lord in another moksha trikona → peace of mind, 4th from 4th contains 9L. From 10H (karma/actions): 3L = 6L in 10H → one āpoklimatic lord in another → busy, active, working. Overall later life: marriage, karma, and comfort are all supportive. |

🌑 Third Lord in the 8th House
Verse: Tauro — thief; dāsavṛttyopajīvī — livelihood through servitude (lowly job); rājadvāre mṛtir bhavet — dies at the door of a king (i.e., by royal/state punishment).
[!NOTE] These results are to be understood symbolically. "Thief" can mean one who seeks easy gains at others' expense. "Death at a king's door" means possible trouble with the law or state authority.
Rationale
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| Thief / easy-money seeker | 8H = other people's money (2nd from 7H of others); 3L (initiative, drive) in 8H → all initiative channeled toward appropriating others' resources |
| Lives by servitude | 3L is 6H from 3H (house of initiative/service house); 6H = service; he is told to give 6H results (service/laborious work) |
| Death/punishment by state | 8H = house of punishment from past karma; 3H = one indicator of circumstances of death; lord in 8H can bring punishment by authority (king/state) |
[!TIP] Alternative positive interpretation: 3L in 8H can show a karma yogi — one who directs all initiative (parakrama) into intense tapasyā or deep work. The eighth house also shows workaholism and extreme dedication. Context and planet nature must guide interpretation.
[!WARNING] Do NOT ask a person with 3L in 8H if they have stolen anything. Interpret with balance: "All initiative focused on getting from others" is a spectrum from the opportunist to the intense spiritual practitioner.
☀️ Third Lord in the 9th House
Verse: Pitṛ-sukha-vibaddhataḥ — devoid of paternal happiness; strībhiḥ bhāgyodayas — fortune blooms through women/wife; putrādi-sukha-saṁyutaḥ — happiness and comfort through children.
Rationale
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| Paternal unhappiness | From 9H (father): 3L = 7L in lagna → 7H is maraka for father from 9H; father may be short-lived. Alternatively: 3L (energy/initiative) in 9H = person spends energy on father → energy focused there = problem. Normal life = energy flows effortlessly; focused effort = friction/trouble. |
| Fortune through women | From 9H as lagna: 7L in lagna → fortune is through interaction with others; 7H = relationships; fortune blooms through marriage or relationship |
| Happiness through children | 3L = 11L; in a trine aspecting 11H → 11H fortified; from 5H: 3L = 11L in 7H (quadrant from 5H) and aspects 5H ← This is Pūrva Puṇya at work; all desires regarding children fulfilled |
[!TIP] Additional result (not in verse, derived): From 9H as lagna, 7L is in 9H = lagna. Person may run or be involved in a dharmic institution (temple, maṭha, pīṭha, religious organization) and interact a lot with people on religious matters.
🏛️ Third Lord in the 10th House
Verse: Sarva-sukhānvita — all comforts; svabhujārjita-vitta — self-made/self-earned wealth; duṣṭa-strī-bharaṇe-rataḥ — interested in entertaining/associating with adharmic women.
Rationale
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| All comforts | 3L in 10H is in quadrant from 4H (comfort) and aspects 4H; 3L = 12L in 4H → spending on comfort; person spends heavily on material comforts (latest gadgets, cars, luxuries) — not necessarily joyful from them, but spends to have them |
| Self-made | 3H = initiative/drive; its lord in 10H (career/karma) → all energy channeled into career; 6L in lagna (from 10H as lagna) → faced many obstacles but overcame them through effort |
| Adharmic interactions | From 7H as lagna: 9L (dharma of interactions) in 4H → 9L's lord in 8H from 9H → dharma of interactions is ruined; 3L is 8th from 3H → the lord ruins its own house's dharma. Bottom line: relationships / interactions tend to be adharmic — not necessarily evil, but lacking in dharma |
[!NOTE] "Adharmic women" (duṣṭa strī) is the classical phrasing — the underlying principle is adharmic associations in one's interactions/relationships, not necessarily involving women specifically. Business dealings may also be with unscrupulous people.
🌟 Third Lord in the 11th House
Verse: Vyāpāre lābhavān sadā — always profitable in business/trade; vidyā-hīno 'pi nedhāvī — uneducated but brilliant; sāhasī — bold; para-sevakāḥ — serves others (voluntarily, not for livelihood).
Rationale
flowchart TD
A["3L in 11H\n(Kāmatrikoṇa lord in Kāmatrikoṇa)"]
A --> B["3H = seed of desire (initiative)\n11H = fulfillment of desire\n→ All business succeeds; desires fulfilled"]
A --> C["From 4H (education):\n3L = 12L in 8H → break in education\nBut from 5H (intelligence):\n3L = 11L in 7H (quadrant), aspects 5H\n→ Intelligent but uneducated"]
A --> D["3L in 9H from 3H\n→ House lord in 9H = fortunate for that house\n→ Bold/brave (3H = courage)"]
A --> E["From 10H as lagna:\n6L in 2H → service activities\nas a resource for career-karma\n→ Voluntary service, not livelihood"]
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| Business success | 3H (Kāmatrikoṇa seed) + 11H (Kāmatrikoṇa fulfillment) = one lord in another → desires fully pursued and fulfilled; 8L in 7H suggests business (not service) orientation |
| Brilliant but uneducated | 4H (education): 3L = 12L in 8H → disrupted formal education. 5H (intelligence): 3L = 11L in 7H/quadrant, aspects 5H → intelligence strong independently of formal education |
| Bold | 3L (initiative/bravery) in 9H from 3H → house lord in its own 9H = blessed/fortunate for that house → bravery is outstanding |
| Voluntary service | Sees serving others as an accomplishment (seen from 10H), not livelihood. Uses initiative to help people, organize, volunteer — like a business magnate who donates time to community service |
🌀 Third Lord in the 12th House
Verse: Kukārye vyākṛt-janaḥ — spends money on evil/bad activities; pitā tasya bhavet krūra — father is cruel/harsh; strībhiḥ bhāgyodaya kathā — fortune through relationships/women (in a base manner).
Rationale
| Result | Mechanism |
|---|---|
| Spends on evil activities | 12H = expenditure; 3H = dharma-fall (maraka for dharma); 3L in 12H → spends money on activities that cause his dharma to fall; the house of "fall of dharma" is in the house of spending |
| Cruel father | From 10H (alternative reference for father): 6L in 3H → aggressive, ruthless, cold achiever; 6H = ruthlessness, aggressive accomplishment. A3 falls in 6H from 9H (father's house) |
| Fortune through base relationships | From 9H (bhāgya/fortune) as lagna: 7L in 4H; 7H from 9H = interactions for fortune; 3L is in 12H from lagna (bed pleasures) → interactions that advance one's fortune are happening via bedroom/bed pleasures; the person may use relationships/body to advance fortune |
[!IMPORTANT] Contrast with 3L in 9H: In the 9H placement, "fortune through women" means legitimate marriage that brings prosperity. In the 12H placement, it connotes using relationships opportunistically (loose associations to gain) — a qualitatively different shade of the same phrase.
[!NOTE] 3H as the fall of dharma: A new meaning introduced in this verse. Third house is not just initiative, courage, and communication — it is also maraka for dharma (as the 7th from 9H, and the preceding house to 4H of spiritual direction). When 3L is in 12H, it causes dharma-fall through spending.
📊 Summary Table — Third Lord Through Houses 7–12

| 12H | Spends on evil; cruel father; base fortune through relationships | 3H = dharma-fall; 12H = expenditure; 6L in 3H from 10H; 7L in 4H from 9H + 12H bed position |
💡 Key Pedagogical Note
Parashara's method is not a lookup table. The teacher closes the Parashara segment with an important reminder:
[!IMPORTANT] Parashara gives 2–3 results per house to expand your thinking, not to provide an exhaustive or automatic predictive formula. Each result he gives illuminates a different way of reasoning about the placement. You should:
- Understand the logic behind each result (house-reference shifting, argala, ārūḍha)
- Use those patterns to derive many more results
- Never code these results as auto-generated predictions (e.g., in Jagannatha Hora)
- Always combine with other factors: planet involved, kāraka, divisional charts, dasha
