A student consulted another (older) astrologer who got Mercury in Scorpio (with Jupiter, Sun) rather than Mercury at ~2° Sagittarius (as computed with Lahiri).

Teacher's analysis:

[!IMPORTANT] Use Lahiri ayanamsa with confidence. The Indian government's National Calendar Committee, headed by Lahiri, standardized this. Most published panchangas use Lahiri. An astrologer citing 15 panchangas all giving a different result should raise suspicion of ayanamsa or calculation error, not doubt in Lahiri.

[!TIP] When another astrologer's analysis conflicts with yours: identify the root cause (ayanamsa difference, Vakya vs Druk, date confusion) rather than abandoning your calculated position.

Dasamsa Rectification by Career

Original Dasamsa Lagna: Capricorn (computed from 12:32 AM). Problem: Capricorn Dasamsa Lagna does not explain a chartered accountant (CA) career.

Rectified time: ~12:25 AM (7-minute adjustment). Rectified Dasamsa Lagna: Sagittarius ♐

[!NOTE] Mars is debilitated in 8th house but is 5th lord (functional benefic) with A5 there. Career starting in Mars Dasha makes sense: recognition (5th house) through hard work (8th house). The Parivartana between Lagna lord and 8th lord is not used here as it would create Dur Yoga, not Raja Yoga.

Conclusion: Dasamsa Lagna is Sagittarius (rectified from Capricorn). A 7-minute birth time error is plausible for a 12:32 AM birth.

[!IMPORTANT] Using these verses in practice: The teacher cautions against mechanical application. These combinations should be verified in Navamsa (for dharmic/father qualities), Chaturthamsa (for fortune — bhagya; explicitly stated by Parashara), and Dvadashamsa (for father specifically). A combination in Rasi alone is insufficient for confident predictions about father's wealth or longevity.

Key philosophy from 9th house chapter:

• Ninth Lord in 9th = person is fortunate (own house = strength of fortune)
• Jupiter in 9th = natural Karaka for Dharma in the house of Dharma = auspicious
• Venus in 9th = fortune comes through Rajasi means (from father or fatherly figure)
• Sun in trine = good relationship with father (Sun = karaka of father and authority)
• 2nd and 4th from 9th = father's movable and immovable wealth (apply to see father's financial standing)

[!TIP] When both partners have the same Moon sign but different nakshatras, Tara compatibility should be checked both ways. Here, both are auspicious. The only caution: shared transits (e.g., Ashtama Shani) will affect both simultaneously — less mutual support during hard periods.

Lagna & Upada Compatibility

[!IMPORTANT] The ideal criterion: girl's Lagna should be 7th or trine from boy's UL, and vice versa. Here it's imperfect from one side, but strong planetary correspondences (Venus ↔ UL, Mercury ↔ UL) compensate.

Venus Compatibility

[!TIP] Venus represents emotional harmony and love/romance between partners. 3–11 mutual placement is Upachaya (increasing) — the couple's love and romantic feeling grows over time through each other's influence.

Longevity: Three-Parts Rule

Rule: For each pair below, if both planets are in the same type of sign, that type gives the longevity. If they are different, the third type (not present) gives the longevity. Majority wins.

Tie-breaker rule: If all three pairs disagree (one long, one middle, one short), give priority to Moon-Saturn pair if Moon or Saturn is in Lagna or 7th house. Otherwise, give priority to Lagna-Hora Lagna pair.

Girl's Chart Longevity

Tie-breaker: Moon and Saturn are both in Lagna → their pair takes priority → Long life confirmed.

Dasha check: Jupiter Dasha running (3rd + 6th lord = Maraka potential); Ketu (2nd lord) is strongest Maraka. But Ketu Dasha is far off. Estimated lifespan: ~70+ years. ✓

Boy's Chart Longevity

Result: Two long life, one middle life → Long life.

[!TIP] Both partners show long life (~70+ years). No significant longevity disparity. This is a positive matchmaking indicator — when one chart shows long life and the other short life, the marriage may end in early widowhood.

Widowhood Assessment

[!NOTE] Parashara teaches widowhood combinations in classics, but they are not extensively covered here. Simple checks: 7th lord strong in Rasi and Navamsa = good marital life. This applies here.

Kuja Dosha

Girl: Mars (exalted) in 4th house — technically Mars is in 2nd from Venus. But:

If Mars is exalted or in own house, Kuja Dosha is NOT applicable.

Boy: Mars in 2nd from Venus also (similar position). Additionally:

• Mars is in a friendly sign
• Jupiter is exalted and aspects Mars (dispositor protection)
• Same level of "affliction" for both → cancels the concern

[!WARNING] Kuja Dosha (Manglik) is extremely overrated. The teacher uses the Aishwarya Rai example: she was declared Manglik, and elaborate remedies were done including a marriage-to-a-banana-tree. Bottom line: if both partners have similar Mars placements, the "dosha" neutralizes. Focus on actual 7th house/Navamsa conditions instead.

Guna Kuta

[!NOTE] Total point score was not calculated (teacher's Nakshatra table was at home). Teacher's estimate: likely upper-twenties range. Two failing Kutas (Yoni, Gana) are present but not decisive given the strong positives elsewhere.

On Gana matching: Gana = type of intelligence. More reliable check = Pakalagna (dispositor of Lagna lord):

• Boy's Pakalagna: Pisces with Sun, Mercury, Mars → analytical, logical
• Girl's Pakalagna: Sagittarius with Mercury, Ketu, Venus → intelligent disposition
• Both have Mercury prominent → common intellectual temperament ✓

On Yoni matching: Seen only from Moon — represents physical compatibility. But Venus and Lagna also matter for physical harmony. Teacher advises not over-weighting Yoni Kuta.

Verdict & Remedies

[!TIP] Overall assessment: Good match. Lagna, Moon, Tara, Upada, Venus, and longevity all compatible. Minor concerns noted.

Concern: Boy's chart — 8th from UL has Sun, Mars, Mercury. Mercury is Maraka from UL (2nd lord from UL = Maraka) and 6th lord from UL (functional malefic from UL). Forces to break the marriage will be active during Mercury Dasha (from ~2032 onward). Sun and Mars in that house are protectors (UL lord and 9th lord from UL). Mercury alone is the concern.

Remedies:

Timing: Jupiter Dasha running; Mercury Antardasha is favorable. Marriage likely soon — before November (current year at time of class).

🧠 Arudha Lagna vs. Arudha of Lagna Lord

Question: When looking at perceived intelligence of a person, do you use 5th from Arudha Lagna or 5th from Arudha of Lagna Lord?

[!IMPORTANT] Both are important — they show two different dimensions of the person's perceived intelligence.

Lagna = expression of self; Lagna lord = intelligence behind expression.

Moon = how you perceive and react to the world. Lagna = how you act in the world. Lagna lord = how you analyze and think about the world. Lagna lord drives the Lagna.

Practical example:

• Person with malefic in 3rd from AL but benefic in 3rd from Lagna lord's Arudha:
  • Seen to act forcefully/assertively (malefic in 3rd from AL)
  • Seen to think gently/sattvically (benefic in 3rd from thinking-self Arudha)
  • World sees: "He acts aggressively but seems to think like a saint"

[!NOTE] For a saint: ideally, both 3rd and 6th from AL should be sattvic (no malefics) — saints are not seen to act in a forceful or aggressive way. Exceptions exist (e.g., warrior-saints), but the standard is non-forceful external conduct.

🌙 Nakshatra Sandhi — Handling Discrepancies

Three causes when someone believes they are one nakshatra but calculation shows another:

[!IMPORTANT] For practical use: Moon sign is usually more important than nakshatra in daily life (most transit analysis uses Moon sign). Nakshatra matters primarily for Sradha-Bhadra chakra and puja sankalpa. If Moon sign is clear (not on a sign boundary), the nakshatra question matters less.

Example from class: Person believes they are in Moola nakshatra (as told from childhood), but calculation clearly shows Jeshtha (Scorpio, 4th pada). The Moon is 5 hours away from Jeshtha-Moola junction. The person's grandfather likely used a panchanga with an older ayanamsa 2–3° advanced, moving the Moon artificially into Moola.

[!TIP] When clients have strong prior beliefs about their nakshatra, communicate confidently: explain the ayanamsa issue, use NASA/modern ephemeris as authority, and instruct them to use Jeshtha in all future pujas. Do not show confusion — clients calibrate their trust on the astrologer's confidence.
