⚠️ Note on Recording Gap {#recording-gap}
[!NOTE] The recording for this class began late. The teacher re-summarized the analysis of the 6th lord in 7th house (Ch. 24, v. 67) verbally at the start of the recording. All content from that summary is preserved below.
💍 Sixth Lord in 7th House {#6th-lord-in-7th-house}
Chapter 24, Verse 67.
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| No marital bliss | Unhappy marriage / deprivation of spouse | From 7th house: 12th lord in lagna — lord of loss occupies the house itself → deprivation of 7th-house matters |
| Kīrtimān | Famous, well-known | From 6th house of following: 2nd lord (resources) in 3rd (upachaya) → accumulates followers and resources of fame |
| Guṇavān | Virtuous, dharmic | From 9th house: 10th lord (quadrant lord) in 11th (gains) with argalā on 9th → also suggests a fighter for Dharma since the planet is the 6th lord |
| Mānī | Honored, respected | From 10th house: 9th lord (trine lord) in 10th itself → trine lord in quadrant — excellent for honor and status |
| Sāhasī | Bold, adventurous | From 3rd house: 4th lord (quadrant lord) in 6th (trine from 3rd) → quadrant lord in trine = bold |
| Dhanī | Wealthy | From 2nd house: 5th lord (pūrvapuṇya) in 6th (upachaya) → trine lord in an accumulation house → wealth accumulator |
[!IMPORTANT] Despite the 6th lord being a duṣṭhāna lord, most results here are positive for fame, dharma, honor, bravery, and wealth. The only clearly negative result is marital unhappiness. This underscores the principle: assess relative to each house, not just lagna.
🏥 Sixth Lord in 8th House {#6th-lord-in-8th-house}
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Rogī | Diseased, poor health | 6th lord (disease) in 8th (chronic troubles, anxiety) → compounded affliction of health |
| Inimical to people | Quarrelsome, argumentative | From 7th house: planet is 12th lord in 2nd (Māraka sthāna) → deprives 7th house of nourishing resources; lord of quarrels has argalā effect |
| Paradravya Abhilāṣī | Desires others' money | From 8th house (others' wealth): planet is 11th lord in lagna → seeks gain via 8th-house routes (others' resources); also from 7th house: 12th lord in 2nd causes other people to lose money, which flows to this native |
| Paradārā Rati | Interest in others' spouses / licentiousness | From 9th house (dharma/morality): 10th lord in 12th → conduct (10th) in house of compromise (12th) → morality is compromised; from 12th house (pleasures in bed): 7th lord (relationships) in 9th (trine) → well-placed for bedroom pleasures. Combined: loose morality + heightened physical desire |
| Aśuci | Unclean, unkempt | From lagna: 6th lord (obstacle) in 8th (another duṣṭhāna) → doubly adverse for lagna (body/appearance) → possible neglect of physical upkeep |
[!NOTE] Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is cited as an example. He had 6th lord (Moon) and 8th lord (Mercury) together in Aquarius lagna. He famously wore the same dirty veshti for weeks, completely unconcerned with physical appearance. Aśuci can manifest as a saint's indifference to the body as much as a worldly person's lack of hygiene.
[!TIP] The 8th house is also the house of sādhanā and occult. A 6th lord in the 8th can indicate someone who directs all energy into intense spiritual practice, caring nothing for worldly appearances — a higher-octave reading of the same combination.

🪵 Sixth Lord in 9th House {#6th-lord-in-9th-house}
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Deals in wood, stones, funeral articles | Business in inauspicious / funerary goods | From 7th (business) house: planet in 3rd (initiative) → initiative in business; 7th house business relates to 12th-house matters (death, misfortune) since the business house is 12th from 7th of general interactions |
| Mixed gains and losses | Neither stable profit nor stable loss | From 11th (gains): planet is 8th lord in 11th → can give gains (11th) but also rollercoaster (8th = upsets) |
[!NOTE] Kāṣṭha (wood) and pāṣāṇa (stone) carry connotations of funeral/cremation materials in classical texts. In modern contexts this could represent funeral homes, coffin/casket sales, burial plots, or any business with an "inauspicious" connotation (insurance, legal services, crisis management).
🏆 Sixth Lord in 10th House {#6th-lord-in-10th-house}
Verse 70.
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Kula Viśrutaḥ | Famous in family/circle | From 10th as lagna: 9th lord in lagna → honor and good karma; from 2nd (family): planet is 5th lord in 9th → fame/following in family circles |
| Abhaktasya Pitṛ | Disobedient to father | From 7th from 9th (relationship with father): planet is 4th lord in 8th → quadrant lord in duṣṭhāna = dur-yoga; not conducive to good relationship with father |
| Vaktā | Gifted orator | From 2nd (speech): 5th lord in 9th → trine lord in another trine = excellent for eloquent speech |
| Videśe Sukhī | Happy in foreign lands | From 12th (abroad): planet is 7th lord in 11th → quadrant lord in gains; from 9th (fortune abroad): planet is quadrant lord in 2nd → both perspectives show foreign fortune |
[!TIP] Relationship vs. person: When analyzing father, take the 7th from the 9th house (= 3rd house) as lagna to see the relationship with the father — not just the 9th house. The 9th house shows the father as a person; the 7th from it shows one's interaction with him.
⚔️ Sixth Lord in 11th House {#6th-lord-in-11th-house}
Verse 71. Ṣaṣṭheśe lābhage jātaḥ śatrudhano dharmapuñjajaḥ | guṇavān sāhasī mānī kintu putrasukhodyataḥ ||
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Śatrudhanī | Earns money through/from enemies | From 6th as lagna: lagna lord in 6th → enemies are troubled; planet is in 11th (gains) → gains come, but through fighting (litigation, contests, rivalry) |
| Guṇavān | Virtuous | From 9th (dharma): planet is 10th lord in 3rd (upachaya) → shows initiative in moral conduct; not in duṣṭhāna from dharma |
| Sāhasī | Bold, brave | From 3rd (bravery): 4th lord in 9th → quadrant lord in 9th (protection) → protects bravery; conducive planet, not enemy of 3rd |
| Mānī | Honored | From 10th house: planet is 9th lord in 2nd with argalā on 10th → auspicious trine lord sustaining the 10th house |
| No happiness from children | Loss of / poor relationship with children | From 5th (children): planet is 2nd lord in 7th → double Māraka (2nd lord in 7th house = severe Māraka) → can cause death of child or severe problems with children |
[!IMPORTANT] Getting wealth from enemies means fighting for it. "The enemy never walks up and hands you a million dollars — by definition." The native must go to court, fight rivals for years, and only then receive what is rightfully theirs. This is the flavor of śatrudhana — hard-won gains, not windfall.
[!NOTE] From 4th (learning) as lagna: planet is 3rd lord in 8th → interest in occult knowledge (8th = occult, 3rd = initiative in learning). The native may show enthusiasm for astrology, tantra, or hidden sciences.
🔥 Sixth Lord in 12th House {#6th-lord-in-12th-house}
Results
| Sanskrit Term | Meaning | Astrological Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Durācāra | Bad habits, addictions | 6th lord (weaknesses/vices) + 12th house (expenditure, bed pleasures, loss) → spends on vices (smoking, drinking, gambling); also from 7th: 12th lord in 5th shows spending on pleasures and relationships |
| Vyayī | Always spending money | 6th lord in 12th = constant expenditure on 6th-house matters (litigation, enemies, addictions) |
| Vidvad-Dveṣī | Hates learned people / scholarship | From 5th (scholarship): planet is 2nd lord in 8th → Māraka for scholarship; does not value learning and therefore does not value scholars; 6th lord in 12th shows 6th-house energy (struggle, enemies) directed at the 12th house |
| Jīvahiṃsā Tatparaḥ | Inflicts suffering on living beings | From 7th (interactions with beings): planet is 10th lord in 6th → karma (10th) of giving trouble/struggle (6th) to others |
[!NOTE] Vidvad-dveṣī may also mean aversion to formal knowledge or scholarship in general, not necessarily personal hatred of scholars. If the 6th lord is strong and Vṛścika yoga applies, this combination can eventually yield transformation after suffering — the 8th-house quality of the 6th being in the 12th.

📖 Practical: Divorce Chart — Madan {#chart-madan}
Birth data: April 6, 1971 · 10:00 AM · Ongole, India (80°E03′, 15°N30′)
Context
The native has been in litigation for ~5 years over a divorce. His wife now wants to reconcile. Question: Should he accept? Will the second innings go smoother?
Key Observations
| Factor | Observation |
|---|---|
| Marriage Dasha | Venus Dasha (c. 1996) → Venus is 3rd lord, Upapada lord (UL lord), placed in 7th in Navāṁśa → logical for marriage |
| Current Dasha | Moon Dasha (~5 years) → Moon is 12th lord in 9th → 12th lord in 9th can indicate displacement, legal proceedings, fortune away from home |
| 7th/8th lords | 7th and 8th lords in parivartana (mutual exchange) → "quite bad" for marriage stability |
| Āruḍha of 7th (A7) | Present in chart; significant for physical/manifest interaction with spouse |
| Navāṁśa lagna | 10 AM time has ±14-minute window; natal Navāṁśa broadly reliable but fine-tuned timing uncertain |
[!NOTE] Dasha calculation system: teacher was initially experimenting with Vimśottarī started from Dṛgbindu (Sphuṭa Ārūḍha), which gave Jupiter as marriage dasha. Reverting to standard Moon-based Vimśottarī yields Venus Dasha for 1996, which is logically confirmed.
[!WARNING] Navāṁśa precision is a function of birth-time accuracy. A 14-minute window in birth time can shift the Navāṁśa lagna. Timing predictions using Tripraśna Navāṁśa (yearly Navāṁśa) require a finer-tuned birth time than is available here.
🔄 Digression: Planetary Retrograde Motion {#retrograde-motion}
Why Retrograde Occurs
Retrograde is an apparent backward motion when viewed from Earth. Even if all planets moved in perfectly circular orbits at uniform speed around the Sun, the relative motion of Earth and the planet (each in a different orbit) would cause the planet to appear to go forward, slow, stop, reverse, stop again, and then resume — as seen from Earth.
flowchart LR
A["Planet in circular orbit\naround Sun at uniform speed"] --> B["Viewed from Earth\n(also moving in orbit)"]
B --> C["Apparent speed = variable\nForward → Slow → Stop\n→ Retrograde → Stop → Forward"]
C --> D["Average speed over one year\n= normal sign-transit period\n(e.g., Jupiter ≈ 1 sign/year)"]
C --> E["But instantaneous speed fluctuates\n—sometimes double, sometimes negative"]
Effect on Sign Transit (Jupiter Example — class period)
- Jupiter entered Aquarius in May
- Jupiter turned retrograde and re-entered Capricorn in late July
- Jupiter remains in Capricorn (retrograde) until approximately December 19th
- Net: Jupiter spends an unusually long time near the Capricorn–Aquarius border due to retrograde
Astrological Significance of Retrograde Planets
| Aspect | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Effort required | Direct planet gives results more easily; retrograde planet requires extra effort to manifest its significations |
| Previous-life desire | Retrograde represents a strong saṁskāra — desire carried from a past life to put in that extra effort in the domain signified |
| Dasha timing | For transiting retrograde planets, split the year into phases (forward / retrograde / forward again) and assess results of each phase separately — results are not uniform |
