🌐 BPHS Ch.30 Verse 24 — 18 References for All Results {#v24}

Sanskrit: "Lagnāḥ Padā Adhy Upārohaḥ... Uktebhyo Navame Viprā..."

Parashara specifies the references from which the various results he has taught should be evaluated:

Three primary references:
  1. Lagna (natal ascendant)
  2. Arudha Lagna (AL)
  3. Upada Lagna (UL)

For each reference: either the house itself OR its 7th house = 6 references

For each of the 6 references: the house OR its lord = 12 references

For each lord: the lord itself OR its amsha (navamsha position) = 18 references

Total: 18 references for evaluating all marriage/progeny results

[!NOTE] Parashara deliberately leaves the weighting and selection of which reference to use up to the astrologer's discrimination. He gives tools, not rigid rules. The purpose is to see which reference shows the most pronounced indications for the event in question.

👶 Verse 25 — 9th from References: Planets & Children {#v25}

Condition: Check the 9th house from any of the 18 references listed above.

Planet(s) in 9th from Reference Result for Children
Saturn, Moon, or Mercury Aputratāchildlessness
Sun, Jupiter, or Rahu Bahuputratāmany children
Moon alone (without Saturn/Mercury influence) Ekasutahone child (moderate)
Mixed influence (e.g., Jupiter + Saturn both present) Putro Vilambataḥdelayed childbirth

[!IMPORTANT] Male planets (Sun, Jupiter, Rahu) are conducive to many children. Female/neutral planets (Moon, Mercury) and barren planets (Saturn, Mars) cause few or no children. Rahu is listed with Sun and Jupiter as a child-giving planet despite being generally considered malefic — this is because he shows material abundance.

🦁 Verse 26 — Child Characteristics: Bold/Valiant Child {#v26}

Sanskrit: "Ravijya Rāhu Yogena Putro Vīryaprātāpavan. Pracaṇda Vijayī Viprā Vipu Nigrahakārakah."

Condition: Sun + Jupiter + Rahu combination in the 9th from the reference.

Result:

  • Vīryaprātāpavan — a child of great valor and energy
  • Pracaṇda Vijayī — one who has fierce, tremendous victories
  • Vipu Nigrahakārakah — one capable of restraining enemies greatly

🌿 Verse 27 — Mars + Saturn in 9th: No Children; Adopted/Brother's Child {#v27}

Sanskrit: "Uktasthaane kujaarkibhyam putrahina prajayate. Tatra putrajito vaapi sahodhha sutavaan bhavet."

Condition: Mars (Kuja) and Saturn (Arki) in the said houses (9th from the references).

Result:

  • Putrahina — no biological children
  • Putrajita — adopted child, OR
  • Sahodhha sutavaan — a child from a brother (brother's child raised as own, or brother dies leaving children)

Why Mars and Saturn deny children:

  • Mars = barren, fiery planet that burns the seed
  • Saturn = planet of depletion, delays, obstruction
  • Together they create an environment hostile to new life

♀️♂️ Verse 28 — Odd/Even Signs and Children Count {#v28}

Sanskrit: "Tatra sthe vishame raashau bahuputra yuto narah. Swalpa vaatyah same raashau jayate ju sattama."

Sign Type Result
Odd (male) signs: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius Many children
Even (female) signs: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces Few children

[!NOTE] This applies to the sign containing the relevant reference (9th house, Upada, etc.). Male planets (Sun, Jupiter, Mars, Rahu) give children; female/neutral planets (Moon, Mercury, Saturn) deny. Mars is an exception — though male, he is a barren planet regarding childbirth.

🦁 Verse 29 — Upada in Leo + Moon: Few Children {#v29}

Sanskrit: "Simhe choppadhe vipra nishaanatha yutekshite. Alpa prajotha..."

Condition: Upada Lagna is Leo (Simha), and the Moon conjoins or aspects it.

Result: Alpa Praja — few children.

Why: Leo is 12th sign from Cancer (Moon's sign) — Moon becomes the 12th lord in Leo. 12th = loss. Moon is also the planet that, alone (without malefic influence), gives only one child. So 12th lord Moon in Upada = not conducive to many children.

[!TIP] Parashara may be giving just one example. The underlying principle: if the 12th lord occupies the Upada, or if the sign of the Upada is inherently connected to childlessness/loss, few children result. Cancer Upada with Mercury would similarly apply.

♍ Verse 30 — Upada in Virgo: More Daughters {#v30}

Condition: Upada Lagna in Virgo (Kanya).

Result: More daughters than sons — Kanyā Prajā (female offspring predominate).

Why: Virgo is a feminine Earth sign ruled by Mercury. The name Kanya itself means "young woman/daughter." So Virgo Upada tilts progeny toward female.

📚 Verse 31 — Sudabhava Navamsha for Children; Triamsha {#v31}

Sanskrit: "Sudabhava navamshaacha sthira santati kaarakaat evam trinamsha kundalyam api yogam vichintaye."

From the 5th house's Navamsha (Sudabhava Navamsha) and from the fixed significator of children (Jupiter for male, Moon for female charts), see children-related yogas — also in the Triamsha (D30).

Two Interpretations of Sudabhava Navamsha

Interpretation Meaning
Fifth house in the Navamsa chart See D9 5th house for children
Navamsa occupied by the 5th house cusp Take the 5th house cusp's longitude and see which Navamsa it falls in

Why Navamsa AND Triamsha?

Chart Reason for Relevance to Children
Navamsa (D9) Chart of marriage — childbirth is a purpose of marriage; blessings from Navamsa
Triamsha (D30) Shows past life evils and their results — problems with children have past-life karmic causes
Saptamsa (D7) Primary chart for nature/quality of children and their characteristics

[!IMPORTANT] While Saptamsa is the primary chart for children (Parashara's "Putra pautradi chintanam"), Navamsa and Triamsha both have valid supporting roles. Navamsa relates to the birth event (through marriage); Triamsha relates to the karmic reasons for denial/difficulties.

⚠️ Verse 32 — Saturn + Rahu in 3rd/11th from AL: Sibling Destruction {#v32}

Sanskrit: "Shani Rahu trilabhasthau padarthatru vinashakau. Yashtasya ekadase tatra kanishtasya tritiyake."

Condition: Saturn and Rahu in the 3rd or 11th house from Arudha Pada (or Arudha Lagna).

House Result
3rd from AL Destruction of younger siblings (Kanishthasya)
11th from AL Destruction of elder siblings (Yashtasya/Jyeshthasya)

Why: Saturn + Rahu = two primary Vata/depletion planets; together they drain and destroy whatever house they occupy.

🌺 Verse 33 — Venus in 3rd/11th from AL: Abortion/Sibling Problems {#v33}

Sanskrit: "Daitejyatatra garbhastya nasho vyavahitatyacha. Lagne vapi padairandhe daityartyajyute kshite."

Condition: Venus in the 3rd or 11th from Arudha, OR in Lagna, Arudha Lagna, or 8th from those.

Result: Garbhasya Nashaabortion to the mother when she was carrying the sibling (brother/sister was never born); or sibling problems.

Why Venus harms siblings:

  • Venus is an enemy of Mars (the primary Bhratakaraka/significator of younger brothers)
  • Venus is also an enemy of Jupiter (significator of elder brothers)
  • An afflicted Venus that is enemy to 3rd/11th lord can destroy what those lords represent

[!NOTE] This does not mean ANY Venus in these positions causes sibling abortion. It requires Venus to be badly placed with respect to the 3rd/11th lords and their significators (Mars, Jupiter). If Venus is a functional benefic and unafflicted, this result won't manifest.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Verses 34–35 — Moon/Jupiter/Mercury/Mars in 3rd/11th: Many Strong Siblings {#v34-35}

Sanskrit: "Chandre jya budha mangalah bahavo bhrataras tasyā balavantaḥ pratāpinaḥ."

Condition: Moon, Jupiter, Mercury, OR Mars in the 3rd/11th from Lagna or Arudha Lagna.

Result:

  • Bahavo Bhrataras — many siblings
  • Balavantaḥ — strong siblings
  • Pratāpinaḥ — bold, powerful siblings

Why these planets promote siblings:

  • Moon = friend of Mars (sibling karaka)
  • Jupiter = friend of Mars; also Jyeshtha Bhratakaraka (elder sibling significator)
  • Mars = primary Bhratakaraka himself
  • Mercury = cooperates with Mars in material results; neutral-friendly

⚔️ Verse 36 — Saturn + Mars in 3rd/11th: Sibling Problems {#v36}

Sanskrit: "Shanyāra saṃyutē drishṭē tritiyē kādashē dvijaḥ. Kanishṭha jyeshṭhayor nāśo vighnēyo dvijasattama."

Condition: Saturn and Mars together (conjunction or mutual aspect) in the 3rd and/or 11th from Lagna or Arudha Lagna.

Result:

  • 3rd house: Younger sibling (Kanishtha) destroyed
  • 11th house: Elder sibling (Jyeshtha) destroyed

Key principle: Even though Mars is the Bhratakaraka, when Saturn afflicts Mars, Mars cannot protect the siblings. Saturn's depletion energy overcomes Mars's protection.

🌑 Verse 37 — Saturn Alone in 3rd/11th: All Siblings Destroyed {#v37}

Condition: Saturn alone (without Mars) in the 3rd or 11th from Arudha.

Result: Anyain ashyanthi sodarah — all siblings are destroyed. The native will be left alone (as the sole surviving sibling).

Extension — Ketu in 3rd/11th: Bahulam bhagini sukham — many sisters/female siblings.

  • Ketu is like Mars (not an enemy of siblings); but Ketu shows female while Rahu shows male
  • Therefore: Ketu in 3rd/11th → abundance of female siblings (sisters)

🎯 Verse 38 — 6th from AL: Career Ethics; Rahu in 7th/12th from AL: Fortune & Knowledge {#v38}

6th from AL: Nature of Career

Condition:

  • Malefic planet in 6th from AL without any functional benefic aspect/argala → Chaura (thief; undesirable career)
  • Benefic planet in 6th from AL → desirable, ethical career

[!TIP] "Thief" is the extreme literal result. The underlying principle: 6th from AL shows the career's ethical character. Malefic-dominated 6th = problematic/undesirable occupation. Benefic-dominated 6th = honorable vocation.

Rahu in 7th OR 12th from Arudha Lagna: Fortune AND Knowledge

Condition: Rahu conjoining or aspecting the 7th or 12th from Arudha Lagna.

Result: Jñānavān (wise/knowledgeable) AND Bahubhāgyavān (many fortunes).

Why both Knowledge AND Fortune?

flowchart LR
    R[Rahu in 7th from AL] -->|Ketu goes to AL| K[Ketu in Arudha Lagna]
    K -->|Ketu = moksha/wisdom| JN[Person appears spiritual/wise to world]
    R -->|7th from AL = interactions| M[World sees person as materially successful]

    R2[Rahu in 12th from AL] -->|Argala + aspect on AL| A[Rahu influences the image directly]
    R2 -->|12th = giving; Rahu denies giving| F[Person amasses rather than gives → Fortune]
    R2 -->|Ketu in 5th from AL| S[5th = intellect/mantra; Ketu = wisdom → Knowledge]

Which dominates — Knowledge or Fortune? Depends on relative strength of Rahu and Ketu:

  • Rahu in Moolatrikona (Aquarius), Ketu in enemy sign → Rahu dominates → Material fortune
  • Ketu strong/exalted, Rahu weak → Ketu dominates → Spiritual knowledge

📐 Longitudinal Aspect Strength — PVR's Teaching {#aspect-strength}

This class contains an extended teaching on calculating precise graded aspect strength based on longitudinal distance, as Parashara actually intended.

The Standard Binary Myth

Common modern practice: Planet X "aspects" a house if it is the 7th/4th/8th/etc. from it — binary (yes/no).

Parashara's Actual Teaching (Graded Aspects)

Aspect strength varies with longitudinal distance:

Angular Range from Planet Base Aspect % (All Planets) Jupiter (+50 pts) Mars (+25 pts)
180° (exact 7th) 100% 150%→cap 100% 125%→cap 100%
150°–180° (6th house range) 0% → 100% (increasing) 50% → 100% 25% → 100%
180°–210° 100% → 75% 100% → 75% 100% → 75%
210°–240° (8th house range) 75% → 50% 75% → 50% 100% → 75%
240°–270° (9th house range) 50% → 25% 100% → 75% 75% → 50%
> 270° Minimal/0% Varies Varies

The Jupiter bonus (+50 points on 5th and 9th aspects) and Mars bonus (+25 points on 4th and 8th aspects) explain their "special" aspects — these are not unique special aspects but enhanced versions of the graded formula.

Example Calculations (from class)

Mars at 28° Gemini → Saturn at 7° Sagittarius:

  • Angular distance: 180° + 9° = 189°
  • In 180°–210° range: starts at 100%, decreases; at 189° = 100% - (9/30 × 25%) = 100% - 7.5% = ~92.5%
  • But PVR calculated it as ~30% for Mars on Saturn → indicates he was looking at a different angle/direction

Saturn at 7° Sagittarius → Mars at 28° Gemini:

  • Angular distance (forward from Saturn): 180° + 21° = 201°
  • In 180°–210° range: 100% - (21/30 × 25%) = 100% - 17.5% = ~82.5%
  • This is Saturn's aspect on Mars: approximately 82–85%

[!IMPORTANT] Aspects are NOT mutual. Planet X's aspect on Planet Y ≠ Planet Y's aspect on Planet X. The aspect strength depends on which planet is the "aspector" and the angular distance from the aspector to the aspected point. Always calculate direction-specifically.

Practical Formula

For any planet A at longitude L_A aspecting point P at longitude L_P:
  1. Calculate angle θ = (L_P - L_A) mod 360°
  2. Find which "house range" θ falls in (0-30°=1st, 30-60°=2nd, etc.)
  3. Apply the base formula for that range
  4. Add Jupiter's +50% or Mars's +25% bonus for their special aspect ranges
  5. The result is the percentage aspect A has on P

Key discontinuity: At θ = 210° (start of 8th house), aspect DROPS from 75% to 25%
  — not linear across the house boundary

[!TIP] jHora (PVR's version) has this graded aspect calculation built in for natal chart analysis. The new release would expose it for all Arudha Pada divisional longitude transit research as well.

💼 Career Analysis (D10) {#career-d10}

Dasamsa (D10) Lagna: Sagittarius or Scorpio (border case; 3-minute window in Dasamsa)

Lagna Key Features
Sagittarius (slightly more likely) Saturn = 3rd lord in 3rd house; Rahu-Ketu on 10th axis; indicates civil engineering period ending with breaks
Scorpio Different lord structure

Career trajectory:

Period Career Event Dasha
Previous Rahu → Mars dasha Civil engineering education (Mars aspects 9th lord and 9th house) Mars Mahadasha
Rahu Mahadasha (current) Job in design planning; quit in January Rahu-Rahu-Saturn Pratyantar → break; Rahu is 3rd lord
Rahu-Rahu-Jupiter Pratyantar Job was gotten (Jupiter = Lagna lord, 10th house from Rahu) Jupiter gave job
Upcoming Jupiter Antardasha New job expected; also master's degree completion Jupiter = Lagna lord aspecting 10th

New Career Direction (for further education):

Current planetary influences point away from civil engineering and toward Mercury/Rahu/Ketu type fields:

  • D10 10th axis: Rahu-Ketu prominent → computers, electronics, machines
  • D24 (Education chart): Rahu is 10th lord → professional/technical education relating to Rahu
  • Mercury (2nd lord): Shows computers, mathematics, logic, software

[!TIP] Recommendation: Pursue a master's or diploma in computers, IT, electronics, or related fields rather than civil engineering. The current dasha environment (Rahu Mahadasha) and divisional chart indicators both point to a Rahu-Mercury type career rather than a Mars-Saturn civil engineering career.

📖 Education Analysis (D24 Chaturvimshamsha) {#education-d24}

Key Indicators for Further Education:

Planet Aspect on 2nd house Role
Jupiter ~77% aspect on 2nd house cusp Aspects 2nd house from his 9th position; can give master's degree in his Antardasha
Jupiter ~97% aspect on 2nd lord Mercury Nearly full aspect on Mercury → can give successful advanced education
Mercury 2nd lord; 10th lord Computers, software, analytical fields

Conclusion: Jupiter Antardasha (within current Rahu Mahadasha) is the optimal window for completing advanced education AND starting a new job. Both will happen in the same Jupiter Antardasha period.

[!NOTE] The Mercury Pratyantar Dasha (10th lord) within the current Rahu Antardasha is also conducive to job applications and university admissions — she should actively apply for programs during Mercury Pratyantar.

💍 Marriage Confirmation (April 8, 2010) {#marriage}

Tithi Pravesh Chart Dasha: Venus Dasha (per Tithi Ashtottari) gave the marriage.

Reference Venus's Role
From Navamsa Lagna (TP chart) Venus = Lagna lord in 9th house → Lagna lord in 9th = gives dharmic/auspicious events
From Moon Venus in 7th house from Moon
Hora Lord Mars (with Venus) = ruler of year with Karaka Venus

Powerful Yoga in Tithi Pravesh Rasi Chart (7th house area):

  • 7th + 9th lords (Raja Yoga) within 4° conjunction in Cancer: Sun (9th lord) + Mercury (7th lord)
  • Ketu (1.5° from Mercury) = marriage karaka
  • Vivaha Sthanam in Virgo; Mercury owns Virgo → 7th lord owns the Vivaha Sthanam
  • Venus has 50% aspect on Vivaha Sthanam (Venus at 19° Taurus, Vivaha Sthanam at 18° Virgo)
  • All in the 7th house (from 22° Gemini to 22° Cancer by Parasara's house system) → powerful marriage yoga

Standard Vimshottari (Tithi Pravesh chart): Mercury Dasha running at marriage — Mercury = 7th lord placed in the 7th house with Ketu.

👶 Future Children Analysis (Saptamsa) {#children}

D7 Lagna: Libra (Venus-ruled)

Key placements:

  • Moon in LagnaEkasutah (one child by Parashara's rule of Moon alone)
  • Saturn in 12th house (near Lagna cusp; not conjoined Moon)
  • 5th lord Rahu in 2nd house (with Venus = 1st lord)
  • Jupiter + Ketu in 7th house; Mars (8th lord) in 8th house

Rahu-Venus yoga: Rahu (5th lord) conjoining Venus (1st lord) = Raja Yoga for children in Rahu Dasha.

Most probable child birth window:

  • Rahu-Venus Antardasha (2020–2023) — most direct
  • Rahu-Saturn Pratyantar also possible (Saturn as co-5th lord)

Likely gender: Rahu in Scorpio (even sign) + with Venus = probably female child. Rahu is debilitated in Scorpio (per PVR's tradition: Taurus/Scorpio as exaltation/debilitation), which slightly reduces the "many children" quality.

Child's chart (taking Rahu's position as Lagna reference):

  • Mercury exalted in 3rd → strong communication, analytical intelligence
  • Jupiter + Ketu in 7th → spiritual, philosophical tendencies
  • Mars (8th lord) in 8th → long life, possibly spiritual depth
  • Moon + Saturn in 2nd (from Rahu-Lagna) → some emotional sensitivity

🌸 Spiritual Analysis (D20 Vimshamsha) {#spiritual}

D20 Lagna: Leo (~0°)

Key planets:

  • Mars (9th lord): Exalted in 6th house → Dharma lord in house of fighting/obstacles; gives bold, active spiritual karma; 10th house from 9th = active dharmic work
  • Saturn (7th lord): In Moolatrikona (Aquarius?) → Shashi Mahapurusha Yoga as 7th lord in 7th? Or Moolatrikona in own house
  • Jupiter (12th lord): Exalted — in 12th house from Lagna; 12th = Moksha Trikona; exalted Jupiter there → very strong Moksha potential
  • Venus + Moon: In 4th house (Scorpio), within 2.5° conjunction → very powerful 4th house

Venus-Moon conjunction in 4th (D20):

  • Moon and Venus are the Karakas of mental peace and inner happiness
  • Together in the 4th house (house of Sukha/inner peace) → exceptional spiritual peace, clear direction
  • Aspected by exalted Jupiter from 12th → further blessed

Atmakaraka: Moon

  • 12th from Moon in D20: Venus (12th lord in 12th from Moon = powerful)
  • Venus shows: Lalita Tripurasundari, Gayatri, Savitri, Lakshmi — Sattvic forms of the Divine Mother
  • Ishta Devata: Lalita Tripurasundari or Lakshmi (Venus/Sattvic Devi forms)

[!TIP] This is a spiritually strong chart with four exceptional D20 indicators:

  1. Exalted 9th lord Mars (active dharmic life)
  2. Exalted 12th lord Jupiter in 12th (Moksha potential)
  3. Venus-Moon conjunction in 4th (inner peace, spiritual clarity)
  4. Saturn in Moolatrikona (disciplined spiritual practice)

🌀 Dhruba Dasha & Overall Outlook {#dhruba}

Current Dhruba Dasha: Scorpio running

Upcoming Dhruba Dasha: Leo

Leo Period Assessment (D20):

  • Sagittarius as functional Lagna in D20 Leo period
  • Jupiter in 9th house (mantra sthana) → Gajakesari Yoga in Mantra Sthana
  • 5th and 9th lords together in 8th house → spiritual experiences, occult knowledge

Overall Career: Currently in a break/hiatus phase. Mercury Pratyantar Dasha will start job applications; Jupiter Antardasha will give both degree and job. Career field should shift to computers/IT/electronics.

Marriage: Confirmed for April 2010. Chart shows an active, possibly somewhat roller-coaster Rahu Dasha for marriage life (Rahu = 8th lord in 4th of Navamsa → anxiety and tensions in marital home). Worship of Chandi or Durga recommended.

Health Concern: Rahu is on the cusp of the 8th house in Rasi → potential for accidents or health complications in Rahu Dasha. No Gandanta in Lagna or Lagna lord — no severe concern, but Rahu mantra or Rudra Kavacham or Chandi Kavacham recommended as protective measure.
