Shukra (Venus) Mantras — two versions:

1. Shukrante Anyad Yadidante Anyad Vishurupe Ahani Jyotir Vasi Vishwahi Maya Avasisvadhavo Bhadrate Pushan Viharati Rastu. (Andhra/Satyanarayana Vrata tradition)

The second mantra mentions Antarvishvani Vidvanajighati — Venus provokes the universes within you into action; he gives spiritual experiences and creativity.

🔑 Argala Refinements — Q&A

Q: If Rahu is in the 2nd house, does he cause Badha or Argala on the reference house?

• Rahu in the 2nd house → causes Badha (not Argala) on the reference house
• To cause Argala on the reference house, Rahu must be in the 12th house from it
• If Rahu is in 12th and Jupiter is in 2nd: both cause Argala on the reference house (they cooperate, not oppose)
• If another planet (not Rahu/Ketu) is in the 12th, it obstructs 2nd-house Argalas; Rahu obstructs from the 2nd

Q: Should we look at friendship/enmity (maitri/shatru) between Argala and Badha planets?

Parasara never mentioned it. It can be used as a subjective factor after the strict objective analysis.

Q: How are Badha pairs assigned?

• Respective (kramat): 4th-house Argala ↔ 10th-house Badha; 2nd ↔ 12th; 11th ↔ 3rd
• Excess Badha planets in one pair do NOT overflow to obstruct a different Argala pair
• Example: If 4 planets are in the 12th, they can only obstruct 2nd-house Argala, not 4th-house or 11th-house Argala

📜 Tamo Graha — Sanskrit Grammar Proof

Parasara uses tamograha in dual case (dvivachanam) (tamograhau) in other passages of BPHS:

Because Parasara uses tamograhau (dual form) when referring to these planets, he is unambiguously referring to exactly two planets: Rahu and Ketu.

Jaimini's sutra "viprītam ketoḥ" is acknowledged but the teacher considers it too vague/ambiguous to use as justification for a Ketu-only interpretation. Parasara's BPHS is the preferred authority.

⚖️ Functional Nature — Determination Formula

House Category → Functional Impact

Combination rule (two houses owned):

• Neutral + Malefic = Malefic
• Neutral + Benefic = Benefic
• Benefic + Malefic = Neutral

[!NOTE] The teacher advises advanced students to memorize a full 12-sign table (12 Lagnas × planets = functional nature), rather than computing on the fly.

Nuances Beyond the Formula

1. Kendradhipatya Dosha: For benefic planets, owning 2 kendras (both Jupiter's houses in Gemini/Virgo Lagna) makes them more thoroughly malefic; placement in own sign may partially reduce this (Hansa Yoga cancellation)
2. Degree of beneficence: Natural benefic owning 5th/9th gives results easily (like Bhole Shiva); natural malefic owning 5th/9th gives results with effort (like a miserly donor — still gives, but less freely)
3. Lagna lord is always functional benefic regardless of other house owned
4. Raja Yoga still works even if a functional malefic participates (e.g., Jupiter + Saturn for Kanya Lagna = 4th and 5th lords = Raja Yoga despite Jupiter being malefic)

📖 BPHS Chapter 85/86: Asubha Janma (Inauspicious Births)

Opening shloka: "Atha sampravakshyami sulagne sugrahesv api. Yad anya karane api bhavet janma asubha pradam."

Translation: "Now I will speak about those other reasons by which, even if the lagna and planets are auspicious, the birth becomes inauspicious."

[!IMPORTANT] Parasara explicitly states these conditions override all auspicious lagna and planetary placements. The entire life becomes inauspicious unless remedied (shanti done).

[!NOTE] The teacher notes he was born on Krishna Chaturdashi (a few hours after it started). The class was being conducted during Vishti karana and on Surya Sankranti day (Sun entering Cancer in ~30 minutes), making it a real-time example of multiple dur-yogas coinciding.

⚠️ Inauspicious Conditions Listed by Parasara

Remedy Shloka: "Shantyā bhavati kalyāṇaṁ tadupāyaṁ ca vachsyaham" → "By doing Shanti, auspicious things come about. I will tell you the remedy."

[!TIP] Shanti (pacification rituals) can be done at any age, not just in infancy. Cases of improvement seen at ages 27–28 even when dosha not addressed at birth. Earlier is better; never too late unless very old.

Clarifications on Specific Doshas

Darsha (Amavasya):

• Darsha etymologically means "when moon is just seeable" → possibly Shukla Pratipad (first day after new moon when crescent first appears)
• Islamic calendar uses similar concept (first crescent visibility)
• Traditional interpretation remains Amavasya; teacher notes possible knowledge corruption in dark ages
• Amavasya ≠ new moon: Amavasya is the day moon is going to zero; new moon follows Amavasya

Surya Sankranti:

• Occurs every month (~1/30 births affected)
• A point in time (not a duration), yet tradition treats the entire civil day as affected
• Edge cases: Sun changes sign at 2 AM — is it that day or next? To be resolved when detailed chapter is studied
• Distinction from eclipses: eclipses have a measurable duration; Sankranti is instantaneous

Pitri/Saudhara Bha:

• Any pada seems implied (Parasara does not specify pada)
• ~1/27 probability for any given person
• Question of miscarriages: teacher says "give benefit of doubt; cover all bases"

Tritara Janma:

• Defined as birth after 3 children of the other sex in succession
• Standard interpretation: only live births counted (not miscarriages), though the question is acknowledged

Tithi Pravesh (Annual Chart, 1979): Shani MD / Surya AD

• Saturn = ruler of the year (Hora lord)
• Sun and Saturn in parivartana (5th ↔ 10th lords) = Raja Yoga
• Venus (7th lord) + Saturn together in 5th from Navamsa Lagna
• Fifth-house Argala on Lagna by Venus, Mercury, Saturn (unobstructed) → 3 planets = uttama Argala
• Fifth-house Argala on 7th house by several planets → 5 total planets having Argala on 7th house

Argala on Upapada Lagna (UL) — Rashi Chart

→ When Antardashas of Venus, Moon, Ketu, Jupiter arrive, marriage prospers. → Saturn gave Ketu's results (parivartana/co-occupancy) → Saturn AD gave the marriage (Oct 1979).

Argala on Navamsa Venus (Karaka Analysis)

→ Madhyama Argala on Venus — marriage results come but not overwhelmingly strong

[!NOTE] Debilitated Moon cannot effectively obstruct an Argala per Parasara's rule: nirbala Badha planets are not accepted as Badha.

Dasha Analysis: Husband's Death (Nov 2005)

Vimshottari: Venus MD / Mercury AD (started just before Nov 2005)

In Navamsa:

• L7 (Arudha of Moon, lord of 7th house Cancer) = Pisces
• Mercury = 7th lord from Pisces (in Pisces) = strong maraka (7th lord in 7th)
• Venus = 8th lord from L7 (Pisces) = 8th lord dasha
• Mercury = 8th lord from Venus's position

[!WARNING] The combination of 7th lord dasha and 8th lord Antardasha (from the relevant reference points of the husband significator L7) points to danger for the husband.

🔍 Arudha of House vs. Arudha of Lord (L-pada Distinction)

Thumb rule: If the house and its lord are in mutual trines, then A (house Arudha) and L (lord's Arudha) coincide in the third trine.

Formula for L-pada:

1. Identify the house (e.g., 7th = Cancer)
2. Find its lord (e.g., Moon in Scorpio = 5th from Cancer)
3. Count the same distance from Moon → 5 from Scorpio = Pisces
4. Pisces = L7

Why it matters: A7 shows the general marriage image. L7 shows what happens to the husband as a person. For events like husband's death, analyze from L7.
