🙏 Opening & Chapter Location
Class opens with Parampara invocation. Chapter covered: BPHS Chapter 96 (Prasava Vikara Shanti Adhyayam) — remedies for unusual/abnormal deliveries.
PVR notes that with the completion of the remedies chapters, the class has completed one full pass through BPHS. The group now begins a systematic revision from Chapter 1.
"We can say we finished BPHS once. Now we will revise and go back to the beginning to do the real astrology." — PVR
👶 BPHS Chapter 96: Prasava Vikara Shanti Adhyayam
Opening verse:
Athaaham Sampravakshyaami Vikaram Prasavodbhavam Yaenaarishtam Samastasya Gramasya Cha Kulasya Cha.
Vikara = unusual/abnormal shape. Prasava = delivery. This chapter covers unusual deliveries that foretell danger not just for the family but for the entire village (grama) or community.
🔍 Types of Unusual Deliveries
Achalpe Va Adhike Kaale Prasavo Yadi Jaayate. Heenaango Va Adhikaango Va Vishiraa Vishiraas Tathaa.
| Category | Description | Examples |

| Adhike kaale | Very long pregnancy | 11–12 months |
| Heenaango | Missing body part | Born without a hand, leg, kidney |
| Adhikaango | Extra body part | Extra thumb, three arms, three legs |

[!NOTE] PVR notes: the "Adhikaango" category covers common unusual occurrences like extra thumbs or missing toes. Even these qualify under Parashara's definition of vikara.
Verse on consequences:
Yasya striyah pashunaam va vikaarah prasavodbhavah anishtham bhavidetasya kulebhijamahat bhavet.
Large bad results (mahat) for the house and extended family.
📅 Inauspicious Delivery Timings
Narya panchadase varse janmatah shodashopi va. Garbho va prasavo va'pi na subhaya prajayate.
A woman conceiving or delivering in her:
- 15th year (14 completed, 15th running), OR
- 16th year (15 completed, 16th running)
...is considered inauspicious (na subhaya).
Parashara's directive: At the time of marriage, perform godanam (donate a cow) if such a condition applies.
🐄 Cow/Buffalo Deliveries During Simha & Makara
Simha rasitheer arka gau nakrathe mahisi tatha. Prasuta svaminam hanti svayam capivinasyati.
| Animal | Solar Month | Problem |
|---|---|---|
| Cow | Sun in Leo (Simha) | Bad for calf and owner |
| Buffalo (mahishi) | Sun in Capricorn (Makara) | Bad for calf and owner |
Remedy: Give the newborn calf to a Brahmin (brahmanaya pradadyatam) and perform Shanti.
🔥 Remedy Procedure
Brahma Vishnu Mahesanam grahanam chaiva pujanam. Sarvam homadikam karma kurya tritayasanti vat.
All the same as Tritiya Janma Shanti (Class 93):
- Puja to Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesha, and Grahas
- All homas as per Tritiya Shanti procedure
- Result: Tato gruho sukhi bhutva sarva papaih pramuchyate — household will be happy and all sins released
Final benediction verse:
Evam tvariste sampraptem narah santim karoti yah. Sarvan kamah navapnoti caran jivi sukhi sasah.
When facing inauspicious signs, those who perform the Shanti will have all desires fulfilled and live happily and long.
🌌 Continuation of BPHS Chapter 1
Maitreya's Question (recap from Class 93)
Parashara now elaborates on the link between sky-bodies and Earth-bodies. The question was: "What is the relationship between the stars and bodies of creatures?"
The Three Skandhas of Jyotisha
Etesh vpitrusu sreshta horetishruyate mune. Tvattastva srotum icchamhi...
Maitreya describes Jyotisha as a Vedanga with three branches (skandhas):
| Skandha | Domain |
|---|---|
| Hora | Predictive astrology — what we have been studying |
| Ganita | Mathematical/astronomical calculations |
| Samhita | Mundane astrology: Panchanga, country predictions, muhurtas |
Hora = "most important of the three" per Maitreya's statement.
⭐ Nakshatras and Their Role in Creation
PVR continues reading BPHS Chapter 1 on how from Ahamkara arose the Panchabhutas and the Nakshatras.
Chain of manifestation (continued from Class 93):
flowchart TD
A[Paramapurusha] --> B[Three Shaktis]
B --> C[Vasudeva + Three Vyuhas]
C --> D[Mahan — the Great One]
D --> E[Ahamkara — I-sense]
E --> F[Panchabhutas\nKha + Vayu + Agni + Jala + Prithvi]
F --> G[Indriyani — Senses]
G --> H[Devatas and Grahas]
H --> I[Nakshatras — cosmic grid]
I --> J[Jiva births in various loci]
Deva vaikarikas jatas taija sadindriyani cha tamasacheva bhutani khani swasvasaktibhihi.
With their individual Shaktis, all these arose: Devatas, senses (indriyani), and Panchabhutas (space, etc.).
Vishnu, Brahma, Shiva as Creation agents:
Sri shaktya sahito Vishnu sada pata jagat trayam. Bhut shaktya savita Deva Brahma nila shaktya.
| Deity | Shakti | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Vishnu | Sri Shakti | Sustains the three worlds |
| Brahma | Bhu Shakti (Saraswati) | Creates |
| Shiva | Neela Shakti (Parvati) | Dissolves |
📚 BPHS Completion & Revision Plan
PVR announces the study plan going forward:
"We will go back to the beginning of BPHS and start real astrology. Chapters will be longer. We will not necessarily cover one chapter per class — we will read verses and when there is something worthwhile, go slowly; otherwise browse."
What we learn re-reading Chapter 1: Even Chapter 1 contains deep philosophical context that is the foundation of why astrology works — the link between Paramapurusha, Jivamsha, Paramatmamsha, and the planetary bodies as cosmic intelligences.
"Maybe some parts of the remedies chapters were added later by someone else, not Parashara. But whoever wrote them, they represent the teaching of tradition and we can follow them — but keep this in mind." — PVR
