🕉️ Class 12 — Saptamsa Deep Dive, Tithi Pravesha & Sahamas

A hands-on exploration of child counting in D7 using PVR's own chart, followed by an introduction to Tithi Pravesha annual charts timed with Tithi Ashtottari Dasha — illustrated with PVR's 1987 IIT success and 1994 emigration, plus a live marriage-timing exercise.

👶 Saptamsa Revisited — PVR's Children

PVR's Birth Data: April 4, 1970 | 05:47:13 PM IST | 81°08′E, 16°10′N (Machilipatnam) Saptamsa Lagna: Gemini (3rd sign = odd → count forward)

Finding the First Child

  • 5th house forward from Gemini = Libra
  • 5th lord = Venus (in Taurus, own sign)
  • Lagna for 1st child analysis = Taurus

Sex of 1st child:

  1. Sign (Taurus) = even → female
  2. Planets (Rahu = male, Venus = female; Venus stronger in own sign) → female
  3. No exalted/debilitated planets → inconclusive
  • Conclusion: Female child ✓ (PVR's first child is a daughter)

Daughter's character (from Taurus as Lagna): passionate, creative, strong Venusian influence. Confirmed: daughter has Venus as Atmakaraka, Malavya Yoga, Venus aspecting Lagna in her natal chart.

Finding the Second Child

  • 3rd from Libra = Sagittarius — but Ketu is at the boundary (between Libra and Sagittarius)
  • Ketu wants to stop the count (cut off children)
  • However, Jupiter is in Sagittarius (own sign) — strong enough to override Ketu
  • Jupiter gave the second child; without Jupiter's blessing, there would have been only one child.
  • Sagittarius = odd sign, lord Jupiter in own sign → male child

Son's character (Sagittarius as Lagna): dominated by Jupiter (soft-spoken, never hurts anyone, sweet, mature beyond his age). Jupiter in Pisces in Purva Bhadrapada 4th quarter (own sign, own Nakshatra, exalted Navamsa) = extremely strong Jupiter. Other yogas: Dharma Karma Adhipati Yoga (Mercury + Moon), Lakshmi Yoga (Mercury + Venus), multiple Raja Yogas (4 planets in 10th house from Libra Lagna in his natal chart). Arudha Lagna in Capricorn; 3rd and 6th from AL unblemished — nature dominated by Jupiter: absolutely saintly.

[!NOTE] Ketu as Frog-Catcher The sequence of children is like a frog jumping from one house to the next. Ketu's hand reaches up to catch the frog and stop the next child. Only a strong planet in the target sign can overpower Ketu's hold.

Timing Events for Children Using Father's Vimshottari Dasha

Take the child's Lagna from Saptamsa, then assess what houses the running Dasha lord owns from that Lagna.

PVR running Mercury Dasha (at class time):

  • From daughter's Lagna (Taurus): Mercury owns 2nd (resources/family) + 5th (scholarship/abilities) → period of showing abilities and learning
  • From son's Lagna (Sagittarius): Mercury owns 7th (relationships) + 10th (karma) and sits in 5th (scholarship) → learning and social development

[!WARNING] Precision Limits Using the father's Vimshottari Dasha for children gives only approximate results (not month-by-month precision). For precise timing, compute a Narayana Dasha for that individual child from the relevant house as Lagna.

👫 Drekkana Siblings — Counting Rules Refined

Basic rules (recap + refinements):

  • Younger sibling: 3rd house; then 3rd from 3rd = 5th; 5th from 5th = 7th…
  • Elder sibling: 11th house; then 11th from 11th = 9th; 9th from 9th = 7th…
  • Odd Lagna: count forward; Even Lagna: count backward
  • Ketu in Lagna: may reverse the direction even for an odd Lagna

[!WARNING] D3 Reliability PVR's honest assessment: D3 (Drekkana) does not always work perfectly in his experience. There may be missing links in how it is transmitted. He advises not to rely heavily on D3 until more research is done. D7 (Saptamsa) works beautifully when the Lagna is correct.

🏠 Overall Child Happiness vs. Individual Children

Two distinct analyses in Saptamsa:

Analysis Method
Overall luck/happiness with children Male chart: 5th lord strength from Lagna (regardless of odd/even count); Female chart: 9th lord strength
Individual children Count from Lagna (5th, 7th, 9th… per parity rule); find each child's Lagna via their 5th house lord

PVR's own case: Venus (5th lord) in Taurus (own sign) = Vimala Yoga → overall contentment and happiness with children.

[!IMPORTANT] Rule If the 5th lord (male) or 9th lord (female) is in its Marana Karaka Sthana (worst house), the person will be deeply unhappy with children, regardless of individual child indicators. Strengthen that planet with appropriate remedies.

⚡ Harsha, Sarala & Vimala Yogas

These three yogas arise when a Dussthana lord occupies its own house:

Yoga Condition Meaning
Harsha 6th lord in 6th house (own sign) Cheerful — very happy, peaceful, in peace with oneself
Sarala 8th lord in 8th house (own sign) Straightforward — honest, does not play games, does not say one thing in your face and another behind your back
Vimala 12th lord in 12th house (own sign) Pure — contented, gives happily, no attachment to outcomes

PVR has Sarala Yoga (Mars, 8th lord in 8th). "I don't like beating around the bush or playing games."

🌙 Tithi Pravesha — Annual Chart System

What Is Tithi Pravesha?

Tithi Pravesha (TP) = Lunar Return Chart — the moment each year when the natal Tithi recurs at the exact same percentage completion as at birth.

  • Not based on the Western (Solar) calendar.
  • Not the same as Solar Return (Sun returning to natal position).
  • Instead: when the lunar day (Tithi) of birth returns — same Tithi, same percentage elapsed.
  • Applies only to that one year (until the next TP).

[!IMPORTANT] Where to Cast the TP Chart Always use the birth coordinates (longitude/latitude) regardless of where the person is currently living. If born in India but living in the USA, cast the TP chart for India.

Why It Works

  • This comes from parampara — specifically PVR's lineage through Pandit Sanjay Rath (whose grandfather learned from his guru).
  • It is not found in any available classical text (Parashara or Jaimini). It has been kept as a guarded secret in the tradition.
  • PVR and Pandit Sanjay Rath jointly decided to make it public; presented at a California conference.
  • PVR: "90% of correct predictions I made in the last 5 years came based on this technique."

[!NOTE] Hora Types Use sunrise-based Hora (not Mahakala Hora) for finding the Hora Lord / Ruler of the Year. Mahakala Hora is fixed from 6 AM LMT regardless of sunrise and should NOT be used for this purpose.

Tithi Ashtottari Dasha

  • A variant of Ashtottari Dasha linked to Tithis.
  • Available in JHora software: Dashas tab → Other Dashas → Tithi Ashtottari Dasha, or via the Tithi Pravesha tab link.
  • Also available in the free JHora lite version.

🔮 Case 1 — PVR's 1987 IIT Success (TP Chart)

Annual TP Data: April 9, 1987 | 04:46:56 IST | Machilipatnam (birth coordinates) Event: May 28, 1987 — State First in Higher Secondary + IIT Madras entrance selection

TP Lagna: Sagittarius

Analysis

Factor Placement Interpretation
Hora Lord Jupiter Rules 1st (existence/health) + 4th (education)
Jupiter position Pisces, 4th house 4th lord in 4th = very well-placed; education strongly indicated
Sun 9th lord (Leo) Trine lord
Jupiter + Sun Together in 4th, within 0.5° Raja Yoga: quadrant lord (Jupiter) + trine lord (Sun) within half a degree
Both in AL Arudha Lagna Image boost — not just learning, but PUBLIC recognition
A5 (Arudha of 5th) Also with Sun Tangible manifestation of abilities (awards, rankings)

Tithi Ashtottari Dasha: Sun Dasha began May 27, 1987 — state first results announced May 28 (the very next day) ✓

Sun is the 9th lord (fortune) + co-ruler of the Raja Yoga. In D24: 6th lord in 3rd house (very well-placed for a malefic → overcoming competition). In D24 AL: Sun is in Arudha Lagna itself → confirmed image boost relating to learning.

[!IMPORTANT] Raja Yoga Proximity Rule A Raja Yoga is more powerful when the planets are close in degree AND are mutual friends. Sun + Jupiter at 12°20′ and 12°54′ (within 34 arc-minutes) in the same sign = extremely potent. Like two friends sitting next to each other, they cooperate fully.

✈️ Case 2 — PVR's 1994 Emigration (TP Chart)

Annual TP Data: April 9, 1994 | 04:46:56 IST | Machilipatnam Event: November 10, 1994 — PVR leaves India and lands in a foreign country

Key Planets:

  • Saturn: 12th lord in 12th house (own sign) — strong; shows displacement, going abroad, giving up motherland
  • Rahu: also 12th lord (Aquarius), in 9th house (Cancer = water sign) + Rahu is natural karaka for foreign cultures + 9th house shows prosperous foreign travel

Sahama Confirmation

Jalapatana Sahama (crossing ocean / long journey):

  • Located at 2°18′ Scorpio
  • Rahu is at 2°07′ Scorpio
  • Separation: only 11 arc-minutes — Rahu is virtually conjunct the Jalapatana Sahama

D4 Confirmation: Saturn (12th lord) in 3rd house (travel) with Argala and Graha Drishti on 12th house (displacement) → Saturn has a strong desire AND conclusive role in triggering travel abroad.

Timing: Saturn Dasha + Rahu Antardasha → landed in foreign country on November 10 (after Saturn-Rahu started on November 5) ✓

Three-Way Relationship Check:

  • Saturn's dispositor: Venus (in Taurus) → Venus and Saturn are friends → cooperates
  • Karaka for going abroad: Rahu → Saturn and Rahu are close friends → cooperates
  • Result: All three cooperate; Saturn acts on his desire

🔮 Sahamas (Sensitive Points)

Sahama (also Sahamam, sometimes mis-spelled as Saham due to Arabic influence) = sensitive points in the zodiac for specific activities.

[!NOTE] Etymology Sanskrit: sahamam → remove vibhakti pratyaya (mm) → sahama. The Arabic influence in North India drops the final 'a' making it saham. The classical word used by Nilakantha in Tajaka Nilakanti is sahamam. PVR uses sahama.

Sahama Relates To
Punya Sahama Good fortune (related to Arabic "Part of Fortune")
Vidya Sahama Learning
Paradesa Sahama Living abroad / exposure to foreign cultures
Jalapatana Sahama Crossing ocean / long journey over water

When a significant planet (especially its lord or karaka) is conjunct a sahama in a TP chart, that sahama's event is virtually certain to manifest during the year.

🕐 Pancha Anga — Five Limbs of Time

The five limbs (Pancha Anga) each rule a different quality of time and correspond to the five elements:

Anga Element Rules Lord (TP)
Tithi (lunar day) Jala (Water) Prosperity, happiness, relationships Tithi Lord
Yoga (Sun+Moon combination) Akasha (Ether) Binding people together; togetherness Yoga Lord
Vara (weekday) Agni (Fire) Physical vitality, prana Weekday Lord
Nakshatra (Moon's constellation) Vayu (Air) Strength Nakshatra Lord
Karana (half lunar day) Bhu (Earth) Achievements, promotions, awards Karana Lord

In a TP chart:

  • Hora Lord = the king/ruler of the year
  • Yoga Lord = responsible for new relationships, bindings, marriage
  • Place each of these lords from the Hora Lord to see if they cooperate (quadrant/trine = supported; Dussthana = difficult)

[!IMPORTANT] Yoga Lord for Marriage The Yoga Lord in the TP chart is the primary indicator for whether an important new person enters life that year (marriage, birth of child, meeting a significant guru). Yoga Lord in Lagna = extremely auspicious (trine + quadrant simultaneously).

💍 Case 3 — Marriage Timing (Student's Chart)

Data: March 18, 1981 | 5:25 PM IST | 77°35′E, 12°59′N (Bangalore) Original supposed time: 5:25 PM (approximate) Rectified time: ~5:29:30 PM (based on Navamsa Lagna = Libra making Mars Antardasha sensible)

  • At 5:25 PM: Navamsa Lagna = Virgo → Mars owns 3rd + 8th → no marriage connection
  • At ~5:29:30 PM: Navamsa Lagna = Libra → Mars owns 2nd (family/marriage) + 7th (marriage) ✓
  • Mars with Rashi Drishti + Graha Drishti on Upapada → can give marriage ceremony ✓
  • Marriage happened in Sun Dasha – Mars Antardasha; supposed to happen in Moon Antardasha but delayed

Why Sun Dasha (not Moon/Mars alone)?

  • Sun in 12th house, own sign (Vimala Yoga) → well-placed despite Dussthana
  • Sun has Argala on Venus (Karaka for marriage) from 6th special Argala
  • Sun is in Kama Trikona (11th from the Navamsa Lagna perspective) — gains/desires

Why Mars Antardasha?

  • Mars: 2nd + 7th lord in Navamsa; has 100% Graha Drishti (8th aspect) on 7th house
  • Mars placed in 6th house (loss of 7th) → delayed marriage, but not prevented
  • During Sun Mahadasha, Sun (temporary project lead) doesn't get along with Saturn + Ketu; so their Antardashas were skipped for this result

TP 2003 Marriage Year:

  • Hora Lord: Venus (perfect — Venus is marriage Karaka)
  • Yoga Lord: Rahu (in Lagna in TP Navamsa → extremely strong; trine from Venus in both Rasi and Navamsa)
  • Jupiter (Lagna lord in TP Navamsa): in 9th house → Dharmic new beginning; Rashi Drishti on Upapada Lagna
  • Married in Jupiter–Rahu Antardasha

[!NOTE] Why Lagna Matters for Marriage Even though 7th house = marriage house, in Navamsa especially, Lagna = the beginning of Dharmic life. Getting married is a new Dharmic beginning. A planet in Lagna associated with Upapada or 9th house can give marriage even more powerfully than 7th lord.

📚 Case 4 — Astrology Learning (Tithi Pravesha)

Student began learning astrology in Venus Dasha (May 13–July 22, 2004) in her natal chart.

Natal indicators: Ketu (2nd lord = astrology/predictions) in Lagna; Venus is Ketu's dispositor + 8th lord (occult/intuition) in own sign in 8th house.

TP 2004 (April 3, 2004 start)D24 Siddhamsha:

  • Hora Lord: Moon (8th lord) — associated with occult
  • Yoga Lord: Mercury
  • Venus (8th lord in own sign) in trine from Hora Lord (Moon) in TP D24 → Moon cooperates with Venus's agenda

[!TIP] Rectification via TP Charts If two possible natal Navamsa Lagnas exist (birth time uncertain), look at the TP chart. The Navamsa Lagna in the TP that explains known events will confirm which natal window is correct. The intersection of natal and TP windows narrows birth time further.
