Why this works:

• Functional benefics want to protect the person physically (Lagna = body). They advise caution, "Is it worth the risk?"
• Functional malefics (6th lord = fighting spirit, 3rd lord = vitality) push the person to jump in
• 3rd house from Karakamsha = the fighting instinct of one's ego sense (Atmakaraka)

[!TIP] Which divisional chart applies? It depends on the domain — boldness in career (D10), bold sadhana (D20), bold real-estate pursuit (D4). When Parashara doesn't specify, the verse applies to all relevant amshas.

PVR's personal example (D20 — spiritual chart): His Atmakaraka Moon is in Cancer in D20. Third house from Cancer = Virgo, containing debilitated Venus, Sun, and Mars. Functionally (from Lagna), Venus is Lagna lord (benefic), Sun is 4th lord (mixed), Mars is 7th/12th lord (neutral-malefic). Net result: more benefic influence → he is cautious in spiritual matters, preferring well-studied approaches over bold tantric experiments.

Key principle: The 4th house from Karakamsha shows not just the physical residence, but the person's attitude toward and identity with their residence — how strongly the house is part of their sense of I.

Why Moon in an open space feels happy: Moon = mind + mental happiness. A strong Moon aspecting the 4th from Karakamsha shows the person is happy irrespective of what they have — even without walls, without furniture, the person is content. The richest man in the world with a complaining mind won't be content. Moon gives contentment.

• 6th house = fighting spirit, the ability to fight disease; also Purva Punya
• 5th house from Karakamsha = Purva Punya of the soul — good or bad karma from past lives
• Afflictions here show suffering due to past-life sins; loss of fighting ability (6th from here is the "falling off" of fighting capacity)

5th house from Karakamsha: Planet combinations and diseases:

[!NOTE] Khaya roga = TB is the classical term. In modern contexts: extend to AIDS, cancer, any dangerous bacterium or virus depleting the body. Mars-Rahu doesn't guarantee TB specifically — it guarantees dangerous foreign bodies.

Modern "poison" extended meaning:

• Prescription drugs with severe side effects
• Plastics/thermocol microwave exposure (thermocol molecules cannot be metabolized — remain in body; linked to cancer increase)
• Asbestos, cement dust (workers)
• Pesticide exposure
• Contaminated water

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa example: Had throat cancer, did not fight it — let it consume him. In his case, it accelerated the formation of the Ramakrishna Math as all major disciples (Vivekananda, Brahmananda, Premananda, etc.) gathered and did intense sadhana while caring for him. For paramahamsas, even disease is lila (divine play).

Why 6th house can give blessings: The 6th house = Purva Punya from the soul's perspective. On the negative side: sins and suffering. On the positive side: blessings from past-life merit. The 6th is also the 12th from the 7th (giving up of relationships/worldly agenda).

• They transform whoever they touch — like the philosopher's stone turning iron to gold

Why NOT Jupiter (who also shows saints)?

• Jupiter has enemies (Venus, Rahu)
• Jupiter shows wisdom and righteous judgment — he can be a siddha, a yogi, a pandit
• But Mercury shows no enemies + absolute adaptability — the capacity to meet any person at their level and work on them specifically

Ramakrishna's example of Mercury-style sainthood:

• With a mild disciple who tolerated insults: "You should have fought for your guru!"
• With an aggressive disciple who fought: "You lowered your guru's name by engaging with cheap people!"
• Adapted perfectly to each person. This is Mercury.
